ou Can Do More than You Think You Can is the life motto of this 23-year veteran professional from the oil and gas industry. Satya Widya Yudha’s take on life is that one should act beyond what one thinks as thoughts are often subject to limitation, while actions may not be so subject to boundaries. It is all about doing things and getting things done, not just merely thinking about it. Satya is not a great fan of limitation and boundaries when it comes to exploring life, he truly believes life has got so much to offer, it is all up to us what and how to do with that offer. With education and professional backgrounds both on oil and gas, it is of no surprise that in conjunction with his appointment to Indonesia’s House of Representatives Satya belongs to Commission VII which oversees Energy, Environmental, Research and Technology. As a professional of his caliber, how did Satya end up being a politician and in the position where he is now? This is a truly fascinating story really.

Born in Native Kediri, Satya obtained his higher learning at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November (ITS) in Surabaya and completed a degree in offshore engineering. His career then demanded further and more specialized education, which he pursued at Cranfield University School of Management in Bedford, United Kingdom and completed a postgraduate degree (Master of Science) in Oil & Gas Project Management. The rest is pretty much a professional history in oil & gas industry. He was the Director of Federal Relations & Business Development fro ARCO and BP in Washington DC, United States, and upon BP’s acquisition of ARCO he was appointed Director of International Affairs of BP Plc which brought him to London. His next appointment was as the Vice President of BP Indonesia which brought him home, though not for long as a couple of years after he received his next assignment as LNG Supply and Development Director in BP China. After China he was appointed Business Strategy Director of BP Vietnam, which was his last overseas position before he returned to Indonesia. Upon his return he was the BP Reps as Deputy Director for CBM Business Development in VICO Indonesia, which was his last professional take before he decided to embark upon a political journey for a career. All these professional appointments resulted in making Satya an expert in energy geopolitics and economics in Asian countries such as Indonesia, China and Vietnam. On the question of how are Indonesia’s oil & gas potentials in comparison to China and Vietnam, he first pointed out what these 3 countries share in common, huge resources and yet the major parts are still undeveloped. The economic growth in each country plays a significant role in dealing with the potentials. China’s growth rate is currently seen at 9.5%, the highest in Asia and Vietnam comes trailing at second highest at 8.5% while Indonesia is simply capped at 6.5%. As far as Satya’s concerned, extra caution is to be exercised upon expenditures and the economy must be fully supported with stimulation in order for these potentials to be beneficial. Satya was and is still considered as one of Indonesia’s great exports in terms of profession. On the issue of why Indonesia has so many expatriates working within, especially in oil & gas industry, he explained as Indonesia is in great need of funding and technology to engage in this industry. And those are available with and provided by foreign multinational corporations, who engage in Production Sharing Contracts with the government to operate as contractors and hence the human resources. Obviously there is a future ambition in becoming self-sufficient so that importing human resources would be minimized and instead local orientation is maximized. With the political party Golkar and from East Java election district, he successfully secured a seat as a member in the House of Representatives in 2009. This political move was driven by his strong-willed aspiration to do more for Indonesia. This must have something to do with his favorite quote which is John Fitzgerald Kennedy’s ‘Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country’. On the favorite note, JFK is actually Satya’s favorite politician, he notably admires the policies and the decisionmaking involved in deriving them. What best way is there to do more for Indonesia than to get directly involved with the management of the country, governing laws and enacting rules and regulation. As a professional in the industry he was in before the mere involvement was just as a recipient to government’s policies. He wanted to be more than just a recipient, and hence he aimed to be part of the policy-making strategy which was made possible by securing the seat in the House of Representatives. On the controversial topic of subsidized energy, Satya was prompted at the question of his thoughts on ‘Premium is for the Poors’. He is of the opinion that much is to be done with regards to the subsidy, be it fuel oil, electricity and non-energy. As for the subsidized fuel oil (premium), he regards the implementation of the policy to not reaching the right target and hence the government tremendously needs to rearrange the subsidy policy. With government spending of 20% from the total goes to fuel oil and electricity subsidies, scrutinizing monitoring must be in effect in order to make sure this 20% reaches the right target. ‘With this economy the government really can’t afford to not be wise with its spending,’ uttered the professional-cumpolitician. He regretfully regards the irony of how the poor people are deprived of their right to access the subsidy which instead is enjoyed by the middle to upper class members of the society. It is a problem of mismanagement of subsidized fuel oil, which is missing its target. And hence it has been suggested to the government that the scheme should be shifted from price subsidy to direct subsidy, as some under-privileged people would not be using subsidized fuel oil and hence some form of compensation should be in place. Satya is deeply concerned with how the subsidized facilities are not exhausted appropriately. Reacting upon price subsidy with an increase might just provoke some unrest within the society, and yet strict monitoring with law enforcement is not being done as how it should be. It is a dilemma really, one that is motivating Satya to come up with a solution. Well he has until 2014, at which his term of office comes to the end. Prompted with the question of whether he would run again after this period, he simply smiled and said ‘it’s possible’.

The 2011-2012 Fall/Winter Ready-to-Wear collection was staged in a poetic fall mist, on a backdrop painted with an imaginary forest cast with mystery. The models emerged from two white cubes monogrammed with a black Chanel Logo in a dazzling fog of light to stride down a wooden trail. wear Androgyny, the juncture between masculinity and femininity and the fusion of genders, compels a new orientation. The classic Chanel suit is redesigned in the volumes beaded and embroidered jackets, loose and trapeze, worn with a man’s tuxedo jacket, put on with a sportswear reefer jacket becoming hybrid and equivocal, or attired under contrastive colored tweeds and knitted capes or used with miniskirts and leggings. A layered silhouette, with bolero jackets worn over blazers and masculine pants, which are often tucked into tweed cuffs, while sequined jackets overlap on tuxedos with satin lapels.

Foamy volumes on short sleeves or on the collars of little black dresses are accented by frayed tulle. Leaves slide over transparent organza overlays, and silk chiffon in hazy colors, and trim cuffs or necklines. Buttons shine, monogrammed and squared, in metal or glass. Tweeds, draped cashmere, organza, chiffon and satin, and knitted tricot resonate with a dim palette: black, anthracite, multiple grays, sliver, fur-tree green and red. For the evenings, sequined tunics are over long chiffon ribbon skirts, while masculine shoes are worn with loose socks, almost like gaiters, and are contrasted with slender pointed pumps in crĂŞpe de Chine with contrasting matte and patent elegant heels. The Art Nouveau styled jewelry of cuff bracelets, necklaces and brooches evoke nature with bursts of light, while glazed calfskin bags are impressive, with their constructivist aged-metal clasps, linear quilting, and graphic stitching.

I felt the right canvas for this kind of innovative workmanship was a silhouette that was clean and uncomplicated. The result is very particular, with a mix of control and passion that I think reflects the mood of the moment.”

The designer behind the Comme des Garcons label, Kawakubo was a student of philosophy at the prestigious Keio University in her native Tokyo, which may explain her cerebral approach to design. She presented her first show in Paris in 1981. The collection was dubbed ‘Hiroshima chic’ for its use of unpopular black colors. It also refused to comply with accepted notions of silhouette and body-line, with lumps sticking out to create dramatic and innovative designs but then became the future of the modern twentieth century fashion. Originally known for her works using a dark palette, she later started to use brighter colors. She said “Black is no longer strong and has become harder to use.” Comme des Garcons designs include such elements as a mix of bright and dark colors, whimsically placed or upside-down pockets, de-emphasized shoulders and extra-long sleeves. So powerful is the doctrine behind Comme des Garçons that, it has been discovered that in every designer, there is always a ‘little trace of Rei.’ Donna Karan, the late Alexander McQueen and Jil Sander have all acknowledgment at one time that Kawakubo is the globe’s most talented and inspirational designer.

Archive prints remind of hand-painted Austrian mountains or lavish metallic weaving and delicate laces. The line exudes of precious and luxurious, but embraces in an avant-garde manner via unfinished details that leave casual allurements.
The line extends the boundaries of craftsmanship with hippie deluxe impressions with embellished loden, flannels, velvet appliqués and overprinted jacquards, combining luxury with functionality, utilitarian with precious, raw and incomplete.
A first-ever Capsula Uomo is a counterpart to the Pucci Woman. A collection conceived for today’s man’s wish list. Martyn Bal, who became Versace’s Menswear Collection Creative Director since 2010, has reinterpreted the late ’80s and ’90s Wall Street yuppie style into timeless futuristic utopia vogue, reminding of what was over the top. There is something pleasantly austere, brooding maybe even melancholic and understated about Bal’s breath of freshness amidst the flashy trend that menswear has taken in recent years. Since his appointment, Martyn Bal’s goal has been to revisit the classic DNA of the Versace heritage and reinterpret it for the 21st Century man. This season, Versace’s men collection exhibits a contemporary optical play of forms, dimensions, colours and artwork. Instead of sparkling and shiny appearances, the collection’s luxurious aspects comes from Versace’s brand hallmark of fine fabrics and expert tailoring. The collection’s foundation consists of highly sartorial components, with new garment volumes that are less rigid and softer than a previous line. The jackets and coat’s shoulder lines are significantly relaxed, and detailing has been simplified without betraying Maison’s DNA. Proportions are playfully remade with sophistication of short and long combined. Lengths of jackets are prolonged and waistlines are lowered, which results in cool, contemporary Versace codes. Linear simplicity Sun Ardi is a painter specializing in linear simplistic graphical paintings, who reproduces his own art pieces in limited amount of copies for public consumption. Rhythmic lines are one of the characteristics of Sun Ardi’s painting creations, an artist with a background as a lecturer and an art trainer, concieving art pieces between two contrasting worlds of illustration and graphical art. His source of art inspiration are trivial things that he considers to be meaningful of the sun, plants, people, animals and others. The works of art he has produced are the fruits of a long accumulative process involving his internal sellf and external surroundings. Naturalism and simplicity is this former 60’s band owner main trait, where in his favored silk-screen printing art method, he is extremely thrifty in implementing elements in details, complexities and outstanding ideas and also conveys more in shapes, lines and colors.
