Dear Alumni and Friends, Another incredible year is behind us! Students are living in the new residence hall, studying with friends on the grass quad, and gathering in the new Lorraine Tegan Learning Commons in the Library. I love seeing the community together in these revitalized spaces, and we have our donors to thank! I’m pleased to present to you the 2014–2015 report on philanthropy, which includes a lengthy list of supporters for whom I am most gratefulβ€”as well as stories of students whose lives have been transformed because of their generosity. The stories throughout this report are a true testament to the legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph that still rings true today: Regis welcomes all without distinction and provides unlimited opportunities for talented students of all backgrounds. Thank you for standing beside us now and in the future. This is just the beginning! We are ready to soar. Sincerely,

Matt Norton ’17 isn’t just a high-jumper on the track and field team. This thirddegree black belt aims high in all his endeavors. Coming from a small, Catholic high school, Matt was convinced he wanted to branch out and attend a large collegeβ€”until he visited Regis. β€œThe family feeling really hit home for me,” says Matt. β€œThe professors truly get to know you and I could tell right away that Regis is a place where people are there for each other.” Matt’s experiences at Regis over the last two years have helped him grow from a self-described β€œshy” high school student to an articulate and outgoing college junior. β€œMy Tower Scholarship has enabled me to not only further my education but to grow into a well-rounded person and confident leader,” says Matt. β€œEverything I’m learning here is preparing me for life after graduation.” That confidence has translated into several leadership roles on My Tower Scholarship campus: president of the Student Government Association, Orientation has enabled me to not only further my Leader, Pride Guide student ambassador, and captain of the crosseducation but to country and track teams. He admits that while it’s all great experience grow into a wellrounded person and for his resume, the most important thing for him is to make an impact confident leader. for others. Says Matt: β€œAs SGA president I give my fellow students a ’voice.’ As an Orientation Leader I help incoming students settle in to their new home. I help my coach by giving campus tours to prospective track and field student-athletes. It’s rewarding to feel as though I’m giving back to our community.” Given his altruistic nature, it’s not surprising that Matt is pursuing a degree in Public Health with the ultimate goal of earning his Nursing degree from Regis. β€œI’m a big believer in giving back,” says Matt. β€œA career in healthcare will allow me to do that forever.”

β€œ

Regis helped shape me into the person I am today. Regis gave me endless opportunities and the faculty and staff encouraged me to always strive for excellence.

” Andrew Blanchette ’13 Q&A What is your favorite memory as you think back on your time as a Regis student? Some of my most powerful experiences came from the Alternative Spring Break trips with Campus Ministry. I traveled to Jonestown, Mississippi and Villa El Salvador, Peru, and both trips involved assisting with local youth programs and repair projects. The courage and strength of the people I met was inspiring, humbling, and life-changing. I am fortunate to say that some of the friendships I made continue today. You’re a new member of the Alumni Board of Directors. How do you hope to give back to Regis as a volunteer? Some of my greatest mentors when I was a student were members of the Alumni Board. I hope to share my own experiences and insights with current and future Regis students. As a former SGA president, I have always been committed to student advocacy.

06 I

REGIS COLLEGE ROLL of HONOR

As a member of the Alumni Board, I hope to do the same for the alumni population. Do you have a favorite alumni event? Reunion Weekend! As an undergraduate, I worked at the Reunion events and met some great alumni who have become mentors. As a recent graduate, I have attended the annual All-Alumni Reunion, where I have met such a diverse group of Regis alumni. It has been a rewarding experience. I’m looking forward to my fifth Reunion in a few years. What makes Regis special? Regis’s commitment to its students makes it stand out. Regis continues to show its desire to improve campus culture and life for the students by implementing the Master Plan renovations. And the faculty members really get to know their students personallyβ€”you’re not just a number at Regis.

Why do you give to the Regis Fund? Regis helped shape me into the person I am today. Regis gave me endless opportunities and the faculty and staff encouraged me to always strive for excellence. I, like other young alumni, have student loans to pay. But as a former member of the student phonathon program, I understand the importance of giving back regardless of the amount. Regis was not just a college for me, it was a home. I want generations of students to have the opportunity to call it their home as well. If you had to describe Regis in one word, what would it be? Community. Regis’s strong culture and community was defined by the strength of the Sisters who founded it. Regis is a like big family.

As one of six children, the scholarships Michaela Nejaime ’16 receives make a real difference. β€œMy scholarships have truly been a blessing. Without that support, I wouldn’t have the same opportunities at Regis,” says Michaela, a Global Business Management major. One of those opportunities has been what Michaela describes as a key piece of her β€œRegis identity”—membership on the women’s softball team. β€œPlaying on a team teaches you lessons that apply to real-life scenarios, and I’m grateful to have that experience,” says Michaela. β€œI’ve made some wonderful friends on It’s amazing when the softball team over the last three years and now I’m excited and people from all over honored to serve as the captain this year.” the world come together and form one When she’s not on the softball field, you’ll find Michaela enjoying community. We learn the new residence hall adjacent to Maria Hall with her five so much from each other and I consider suitemates. β€œWe have watched the construction in action over the last myself lucky to be a year and I’m so glad I’m living in the new dorm,” says Michaela. β€œWhat part of that. a great way to spend my final year at Regis!” As she ponders the idea of graduating in just seven months, Michaela reflects on her favorite thing about Regis: the diversity. β€œWhen I walk into the cafeteria, I might hear four or five different languages being spoken, and that’s so unique,” says Michaela. β€œIt’s amazing when people from all over the world come together and form one community. We learn so much from each other and I consider myself lucky to be a part of that.”

School, work, church, homework … repeat. That’s how Kathleen Poteau ’17 describes her life growing up in Brockton, Mass., dedicated to her studies and to decorating cakes in her parents’ Haitian bakery. She recalls rarely having time to make friends amid her myriad responsibilities as a teenager. Regis changed all that. The junior Nursing major holds back tears as she talks about the friendships she has made since coming to Regis in 2013. β€œI came to Regis because of my scholarship and because of its great nursing reputation,” says Kathleen. β€œI never expected to make such incredible friends. Regis has truly changed my life.” She will undoubtedly continue to make new friends as a resident assistant in I came to Regis Angela Hall, a position she just started in fall 2015. because of my scholarship and Kathleen is thankful for everyone at Regis, crediting her professors because of its great for always being there to help and Father Paul Kilroy for instilling in nursing reputation. Regis has truly her a new sense of spirituality. β€œEveryone at Regis pushes me to do changed my life. my best and goes out of their way to help me,” says Kathleen. β€œWhen I attend Mass with Father Paul, I feel like he completely understands what I’m going through. He has helped me see who I am as an individual and feel closer to God.” Before Regis, Kathleen had time for school, work, and church. At Regis, Kathleen has found the time to find herself. Says Kathleen: β€œI remember visiting Regis as a prospective student and leaving the campus that day thinking ’I feel like I’m really going to love coming here.’ And I was right. Now I know I belong here.”

Cassandra Godzik BSN ’15, MSN ’16 has just seven months left in her journey to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Her academic road started at the University of Vermont, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and psychology in 2012. When she began exploring educational and career opportunities that combine these disciplines, Regis was at the top of her list. β€œRegis’s programs are truly unique,” says Cassandra. β€œI looked all over New England and kept coming back to Regis because they had just what I wanted. I’m so glad I decided to come here and do this track.” One of those unique qualities is the immediate hands-on approach to clinical rotations. β€œIn my first year I was working in the field in a clinical setting,” says Cassandra. β€œOther universities don’t place their students in clinical right away, and I found the Regis method to be invaluable in gaining upfront, real-life experience that helped me choose my path.” I found the Regis As she pursues her Nurse Practitioner degree, Cassandra is working as method to be invaluable in gaining a registered nurse at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Mass., and as a Regis upfront, real-life graduate assistant with Associate Dean of Nursing Diane Welsh. In her experience that helped me choose spare timeβ€”and with the support of her mentor Dean Welshβ€”Cassandra my path. and a classmate founded the Graduate Student Nurses Association, a nationally-recognized program that provides mentorship to Regis Nursing students. Cassandra is a recipient of the Mary Jane England Scholarship, established in 2010 by former Regis president Mary Jane England ’59, MD, to benefit innovative leaders like Cassandra who study in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. β€œDean Welsh encouraged me to apply for the scholarship,” says Cassandra. β€œIt’s an honor to be supported by Dr. England. I look forward to meeting her and learning more about her work in the field of psychiatry.”

β€œIt’s like another world,” says Graciella β€œGracie” Molinari ’18. β€œWith seasons!” Gracie came to Regis in the fall of 2014 from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, just in time for over 110 inches of snowβ€”the snowiest winter ever recorded in the city of Boston. And she loved it. The Floridian grew to love more than just the wintry climate: her supportive professors, the volleyball team, her triple in Angela Hall – she appreciates being part of such a strong community. β€œI’ve always been such a people-person,” says Gracie. β€œRegis is an environment where I can build a network with my professors and classmates and learn from other people every day.” Listening to Gracie talk about her life goals, it’s hard to believe she is only 19 years old. Gregarious, mature, and focused, the biology major’s plan is to attend medical school and become an endocrinologist or a I remember when I first learned neurosurgeon. β€œI was diagnosed with Type I diabetes when I was 21 that I received months old,” says Gracie. β€œGod gave me a second chance, and having a the presidential scholarship. I was chronic illness throughout my life makes me want to help kids like me.” overwhelmed Without the Presidential Catholic Scholarship to fuel these with tears of joy. It’s life-changing aspirations, Gracie wouldn’t be here. β€œI remember when I first learned and I’m so that I received the presidential scholarship,” says Gracie. β€œI was thankful. overwhelmed with tears of joy. It’s life-changing and I’m so thankful.” Gracie already has plans to launch a scholarship of her own someday. β€œBeing at Regis makes me want to be a greater person,” she says. β€œI want to start a mentor program and a scholarship for first-generation college students like me. I know that would be beneficial for so many students here.”

Our vision has become a reality: students, staff, and faculty gather in the grass quad, the new residence hall, and the Lorraine Tegan Learning Commons in the Library. We officially cut the ribbon to unveil these new spaces on September 10, 2015. Thank you for supporting this transformation at Regis.
