“People often don’t believe that the workshop is here, under the showroom” said owner David Martin. “Then we bring them downstairs and they’re blown away.”

There’s a team of eight, highly trained carpenters working on kitchen cabinets and islands, bedroom furniture, desks and study furniture, each one made unique to order.

David himself is a carpenter by trade, training for years before completing a degree in the subject. He ensures his staff are trained to the highest standard, resulting in the finest quality products. After an initial customer consultation, when David will discuss budgets and offer expert design advice, the cabinetmakers work from plans drawn by David and create bespoke furniture, which can be sprayed to high gloss or satin finishes using durable Two Pac paint.

With larger companies, you will often see doors advertised as having a ‘high-gloss finish’. This means that they are vinylwrapped and, although this does produce a shiny look, it means that you will be able to see the joins.

David J Martin’s professional sprayer can apply any colour you wish in their paintspraying booth, giving a modern finish with no joins. That means water cannot seep in and cause peeling – something that can happen with vinyl-wrapped doors. Everything is done in-house, which enables David to guarantee high quality at every stage.

Lord Coe opens revamped leisure centre Sheffield’s new, top class sports and leisure venue played host to a top-class sporting legend as Lord Coe officially opened Graves Health and Sports Centre during his London 2012 legacy tour of the city.

The centre opened its doors to the public after a £16million redevelopment, incorporating a major fitness suite and studios, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, two brand new swimming pools, dedicated gymnastics and trampolining halls. The centre is also home to specialist health and research facilities as part of the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine (NCSEM).

One of Sheffield’s most famous sporting sons, Lord Coe visited the centre as part of a day in the city to see how Sheffield is playing a key role in delivering a sport, health and wellbeing legacy.

A Derbyshire woman who suffered heart failure whilst pregnant has praised a Sheffield Hospitals Charity-funded nurse who helped her bond with her baby during her lifesaving care.

Ruth Clout, 39, from Chapel-en-le-Frith, was admitted to the Jessop Wing Hospital at 33 weeks pregnant after suffering coughing and breathlessness.

Doctors diagnosed Ruth’s heart condition and baby William was delivered early. Mother and son were separated, but thanks to the help of Family Support Nurse Sandra Brown, Ruth and her family found a way to cope with their traumatic ordeal.

Ruth stayed in hospital for two weeks and Sandra ensured she saw William on a daily basis.

Initially she arranged for him to be transferred by ambulance to see Ruth, and then when he was well enough, she took him over in a car seat. Without Sandra’s help, Ruth would not have seen her baby and would have missed out on his early development.

Sandra Brown is funded by Sheffield Hospitals Charity and helps parents deal with their baby’s stressful journey through the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit by providing information, emotional support and practical advice.

The Peak Edge Hotel, which includes the Red Lion pub and bistro, has welcomed Eddie Kilty, 30, as the new head chef.

Eddie is bringing a wealth of experience to Peak Edge having worked in restaurants throughout Liverpool and Cumbria, including a two AA rosette venue in the Lake District.

He said: “I am delighted to have joined the team at Peak Edge. It is a fantastic venue in such a beautiful location and I am already inspired by the Hotel’s surroundings.

“I am passionate about the food I create and I am looking forward to creating my first autumn/winter menu.

“I have been busy familiarising myself with our suppliers and meeting lots of local producers as it is important to me to use the best locally sourced ingredients in our dishes wherever possible.”

Chesterfield’s Ashgate Hospicecare is to buy an advanced device to give patients better pain control, after a £1,200 donation from Loadhog, Sheffield’s returnable transit packaging manufacturer. The gift will fund a syringe driver.

Fashion show raises funds for cancer unit Blanc ladies’ boutique, of 131 Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield, and Trendco Nottingham, hosted a charity fashion show at the Proact stadium on 22 September to raise vital funds for the new Macmillan Cancer Unit at The Royal Hospital Chesterfield.

The guaranteed amount raised to date is £2,240, although the amount is still rising.

Over 180 ladies enjoyed an evening of fashion and dancing, including the fabulous showgirls from syncopation dance studio in Mansfield who opened up the show to 'Vogue', followed by 72 outfits from Blanc and 24 wigs from Trendco –worn by 12 models who kindly volunteered their time.

All-terrain E-Class is ready for some rough and tumble

Remember the FF, that exotic V12 supercar powertrain embodied under a family friendly, four-seater shooting brake body? Well if so you’ll be pleased to know that Ferrari has updated its design to this, the GTC4 Lusso.

Unlike the normal GTC4 Lusso, which comes equipped with a 680hp 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12, the GTC4 Lusso T (pictured), wades into battle with the same 3.9-litre turbocharged V8 from the 488 GTB supercar.

While the V8 may not be as powerful as the V12 – 600hp plays 680hp – the V8 has more torque, 561lb ft against 514lb ft, which should make it a more effortless drive. It takes just 3.5 seconds 0-62mph, with a top speed exceeding 199mph.

Unlike the GTC4 Lusso, the T is rear-drive only.

Think Audi A6 Allroad and Skoda Octavia Scout, that’s what Mercedes has done to their all-new E-Class.

Named the E-Class All-Terrain, it’s an EClass with a 29mm ride height gain over the standard model, some off-roader rugged styling and some flared wheel arches.

As its more tough looks suggest, the EClass All-Terrain has been designed to tackle the worst the British weather can throw at us.

As standard there’s four-wheel drive, and with what Mercedes call ‘AIR BODY CONTROL’, the air suspension can be raised by a further 20mm at speeds up to 35km/h.

Arriving in 2017, the E-Class All-Terrain will be available with a 2.0-litre 194hp diesel.

A six-cylinder diesel will follow afterwards. A nine-speed automatic transmission comes as standard.

The all-electric smart

smart on the charge Welcome to the fourth generation of the electric smart; a smart car powered only by electricity.

With this technology being available now on all body styles – smart fortwo, smart cabrio and smart forfour – it makes smart the only car manufacturer worldwide to offer its model range with both combustion engines and pure battery-electric drive.

This fourth generation system incorporates a 60kW battery, or in layman’s terms, a motor which produces 81hp and is good for 160Nm of torque.

This all means the 0-62mph dash takes 11.5 seconds with a maximum range of 100 miles. The cabrio and forfour models represent 11.8 and 12.7 seconds respectfully with both having a maximal range of 96 miles.

Ity goes on sale in early 2017.

MINI’s latest edition of the Clubman has finally been introduced to the John Cooper Works treatment.

Apart from a meaner and overall more aggressive looking exterior package with upgraded suspension, braking, cooling features, the Clubman John Cooper Works edition gets some upgraded running shoes in the form of a 231hp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit. This means the Clubman will hit 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds and go all the way, if needs be, to a max of 148mph.

Power from the potent 2.0-litre motor will be sent to all four wheels via either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed flappy paddle job.

The Clubman can achieve figures of 41.5mpg on the combined cycle and 154g/km of CO2.

CHESTERFIELD IS CARRYING ON REGARDLESS, SAYS PETER SWALLOW, CHAIR OF DESTINATION CHESTERFIELD. n an economic climate where Brexit seems to be dominating the headlines, and creating economic uncertainty, I am pleased to report that Chesterfield has maintained positive progress.

Rather than sitting back, speculating and waiting to see what will happen when the UK exits the European Union, plans for the town continue apace.

Chesterfield did exactly the same thing five years ago. When the country was in the grip of a recession the Destination Chesterfield campaign was established and actively promoted the town to investors; the â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;can and will doâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; attitude is paying off.

In the last quarter alone, work at Chesterfield Waterside has started, the new University of Derby campus has opened in the town, and plans for the Northern Gateway have been given the go-ahead. We also had the news that the re-development of the CoOp on Elder Way is expected to start next year.

Regardless of what the future holds for the UK outside the EU, one thing we are all agreed on is that the good work we have all done promoting the town must not stop. If anything, we need to go up a gear in order to ensure we have the future workforce to fill the

thousands of jobs that will be created. By way of example, our annual Made in Chesterfield festival, held during November, is playing a key role in raising awareness of careers within the townâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s engineering and manufacturing sector.

Chesterfield has a rich heritage of manufacturing and engineering and itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s important that we encourage inspiring young people to consider a career within it. Young people are the lifeblood of this sector, which unfortunately isnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t given the consideration it deserves when young people are considering their future careers. New media, digital, and computing seem to be the careers of choice these days for young people, however, the â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Made in Chesterfieldâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; festival aims to show them that they can follow these careers within the engineering and manufacturing sector, and maybe discover something theyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;d never considered.

This year I am delighted that more companies than ever are supporting Made in Chesterfield and are opening their doors to schools across the borough and inviting young people in to see the modern face of manufacturing and engineering.

We are also taking a similar approach to the townâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s hospitality sector through the

Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards. Without a suitably trained workforce, developments such as Elder Way and Chesterfield Waterside, which will boast restaurants and bars once complete, will struggle to recruit appropriate staff.

Every October, Destination Chesterfield partners with Chesterfield College to showcase the skills of the young people about to enter the hospitality sector. Not only does the College sponsor the awards, it also provides the venue for the awards and most importantly, its own students cater and serve the entire event. At last yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s event the students surpassed themselves, and succeeded in raising the profile such that rather than being just another awards ceremony, it is now a very special occasion that everyone looks forward to.

It is initiatives like Made in Chesterfield and the Food and Drink Awards which bring together employers and young people, that will help ensure Chesterfield not only survives but thrives in these turbulent times ahead.
