Leap into April with fresh twists on classic staples, writes Rosie Brennan.
Tired of jeans and a t-shirt every day?
Re-imagined denim is the perfect way to add a subtle twist to your wardrobe without compromising on comfort. Jackets, waistcoats and blouses are brilliant staples as the days get warmer, so why not make them standout?
A structured puffed-sleeve denim blouse, paired with a simple skirt, trousers, or even jeans if you’re going for denim-on-denim, can provide a simple, casual look with a fun little adaptation, for those wanting to spice up their wardrobes in a less bold way.
Denim waistcoats in all shapes, sizes and styles are becoming increasingly popular. Figure-hugging or loose, oversized
texture and layers to an otherwise standard ensemble. Feel free to mix up colour, tone and pattern in your choices.
A denim dress, long or shorter, paired with a simple boot or heel is a wonderful way to dress for the warmer weather while still maintaining an effortlessly elegant casual look. Contrast deep blues with pops of red or orange, and perhaps leopard print for a sprinkle of a trending, modern pattern. Tailor your denim, your way.
Fashion that improves the wearer’s mood, commonly known as ‘dopamine dressing’ has increased in popularity, blossoming particularly in the spring/summer fashion season. Months of miserable weather is being pushed behind us, and so is the misery that comes with it. Britain is of course, still unpredictable, even in the springtime. So, if you can’t feel the sunshine, dress like it!
Gorgeous pastel yellows, pinks and greens perfectly complement one another for a classic casual daytime ensemble made to uplift your mood, and that of those around you.
Don’t shy away from bold colour and pattern: pick up contrasting colour wheel pieces like olive green and bright red accessories, royal blue and bold orange ensembles – the possibilities are endless.

The dining room at Losehill House Hotel offers spectacular scenery like no other –and much more, writes Matt Rhodes
eople say January is the most depressing month for various reasons such as the post-Christmas blues, poor weather and it beingan excruciatingly long month. For me, the main reason is that tax returns are due, meaning payment to HMRC and long phone calls with accountants asking you questions that require trying to remember things that happened a year ago. With another January survived, I decided to
my accountant out for a ‘thank you’ lunch and a chance to hear his annual joke about ‘death and taxes being the only certainties in life’….
We headed to Losehill Hotel and Spa in Edale for a midweek Wednesday lunch. The weather was bright, which made the amazing view from the dining room all the better, looking up at Win Hill surrounded by the rolling hills of Derbyshire.
I arrived on time (unlike the accountant
and paying on time), and was made to feel at home by Antonia whose knowledge and enthusiasm for wine was outstanding. After much discussion I chose a glass of Deux
Rebelles 2022 Rosé which is an Australian minimal intervention wine. During the winemaking process the grapes are fermented using naturally occurring yeasts which gave it a slightly cloudy appearance, but the taste was sensational and unlike any rosé I had tried before. The wine list is fantastic and offers unusual wines along with better-known choices. We also enjoyed a lovely Sanguine Progeny Shiraz, also from ‘Down Under’ at £50. (Clearly, I was ready to wine-d down and forget about tax season).
The lunch menu was at perfectly balanced choice of four starters, four mains and three desserts, plus cheese. After some
ham hock terrine and the Tax Wizard chose crispy cod cheeks to start. Both were presented in a modern style and were excellent. My only gripe of the whole meal was that the terrine was served fridge cold,

We rounded the meal off with a tonka

investment with a very tasty return.
As we left, I saw an excited couple planning their wedding at what would be a perfect venue with the food, views and hospitality to match. The hotel is open every day for lunch and dinner including Sunday lunch. If you are looking for a dining room with food, and a view to match then look no further.

parkling wines are extremely popular. From just enjoying a glass of bubbly on its own, through predining and accompanying foods, to great delights being experienced at celebrations, events and parties, sparkling wines add that ‘extra something’ to so many occasions.

Here’s a bit more on how it works…
Double glazing features two panes of glass, rather than just the one pane seen in single glazed windows. Double glazing is effective as an insulative measure as it works by trapping a layer of inert or atmospheric gas between the two panes. This creates an insulating barrier that works to reduce heat
