Claire advises brides-to-be to start looking for their dress when they are ready to buy, ideally 9-12 months before your wedding. Dress deliveries can take up to six months depending on the designer with alterations taking around two months.

Claire also wants to put brides’ minds at ease when it comes to attending an appointment: “I promise there’s nothing scary going to happen during your appointment, we’ll catch up over a drink and the full process will be explained to you before we start. You don’t need environment so you can relax and enjoy it”.

Zirconium is a naturally silver-grey metal and be combined with more traditional precious metals

Back to BLACK

Did you know there’s a sleek and stylish alternative to traditional gold or platinum?

or those considering an alternative to traditional gold or platinum wedding bands, there has never been greater choice, and one of the newer materials in the marketplace is black zirconium. Our Zedd collection shows off the possibilities of this versatile metal, combining it with more traditional precious metals in an array of sleek and stylish designs.

Zirconium is a naturally silver-grey metal that undergoes a stunning transformation when heated in just the right way, taking on a sleek and striking black hue when heated to high temperatures in the presence of oxygen. The process creates a beautiful and durable black oxidised layer on the surface of the metal, which can be worked

depending on your preference.

There are many advantages to zirconium as a metal for jewellery. Hypoallergenic, it is safe to wear for those with sensitive skin and nickel allergies, and since it is also lightweight, it is very comfortable to wear. Zirconium is also highly resistant

to both heat and corrosion, making it an ideal material for regular wear. As with any material that will be worn on a regular basis though, it is best to heed care advice to increase longevity and keep your jewellery looking at its best.

Our Zedd collection of black zirconium rings combines the black metal with traditional precious metals, stylishly fusing the classic and contemporary. This adds an extra feeling of luxury to the product and creates opportunity for a wide range of distinctive looks, with yellow, white, or rose gold, platinum, or silver options available. Designs can place the focus more on either the zirconium or the precious metal, depending on whether you want the black colour to be a highlight or the main feature. Some designs display only zirconium on the outside, keeping the precious part a secret, that may be engraved to commemorate an important occasion or convey a special message.

Excitingly, Zedd also offers a range of designs featuring colourless or black diamonds, adding some extra sparkle

alongside the metal’s high shine, or to contrast its brushed beauty. The opportunities to express your individual style are vast, and all with that signature solid black starting point.

All our Zedd rings are designed and manufactured in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, where the precious metal elements also receive their hallmark

Jewellery Quarter is the perfect place to make pieces that combine traditional materials and jewellery-making expertise with contemporary style and high-quality manufacturing; rooted in centuries of history while continuing to develop and innovate.

Standing the TEST OF TIME

From family legacies to winning partnerships, these longstanding businesses are an example to everyone.

PA Jewellery

When Mike Marsh sadly passed away in February 2018, he had already sowed the seeds for succession to ensure that PA Jewellery would prosper for years to come.

Mike started PA Jewellery in 1976 at The Old Bank, Commonside, was a family man at heart and instilled and encouraged these family values at the jewellers, which remain today.

Current directors Ian Cookson, Suzanne Thompson and Amy Campbell-Jones, alongside Mike’s wife Pam and daughter Susan who serve as non-executive directors, have maintained these values which have seen the business thrive over the last 49 years.

There’s lots of familiar faces at PA Jewellery and the long-serving team has been complemented by a new generation in recent years, who have brought their own ideas and enthusiasm to the trust.

Still located at the same Fitzwalter Road premises, W Simpson & Son remain one of only a handful of family-owned, family-run, independent funeral directors in the city.

“I hope to carry on my grandfather’s good work, good name and unparallelled service in the industry, doing everything we can as a testament to the families who trust us to care for them,” said Natalie. “Stan’s legacy and ethos is very much at the heart of everything we do here and long may it continue.”

Keeping it in theFAMILY

Richard Abbey meets Moonlight Textiles’ Paul Smith to talk about building on his father’s legacy, his son joining the business and, of course, that all-important 40th anniversary.

After 40 years in business, it’s fair to say that managing director, Paul Smith, has his fair share of stories to tell. None stick in the mind more so than the time of the World Student Games in 1991 when his company, Moonlight accommodation with curtains and blinds.

Given that over 3,000 competitors would be descending on the city, this was a tall order for anyone and Paul and his team enrolled the help of a local Scout group to deadline.

At that time, Paul was still working under the stewardship of his father, Robert, who had started the business in 1985 alongside his mother, Jo. Moonlight Textiles actually started life as a party planning business but soon evolved into selling slight second ready-made curtains from Eversure Textiles, a huge manufacturing company based out what is now Meadowhall.

Today, Moonlight specialises in the measurement, manufacture, supply and installation of bespoke, made-to-measure blinds, curtains, tracks and poles for both the domestic and commercial markets.

Paul joined the family business aged 17 straight from college, initially to drive and help his dad sell the ready-made curtains at various venues around the country.

And so the move into creating custommade curtains started. The business quickly grew, opening its own showroom just off Ecclesall Road opposite what was once Napoleon’s Casino, before relocating to its current premises on Abbeydale Road in 1992.

This far larger showroom, which had its own workshop and workroom, allowed Moonlight Textiles to do everything in-house, from initial enquiry through to themselves on to this day.

RHS Flower Shows are always huge events in the horticultural calendar, even more so in South Yorkshire this summer as Wentworth time.

Like many of the gardens on display – there are also six Show Gardens and three Feature Gardens – Sam’s garden has been inspired by the local area, in particular Rockingham Pottery. Also known as Rockinghamware, the prominent English pottery was produced porcelain, particularly in the rococo style, on stoneware.

“I was looking into this history and relationship with Wentworth and wanted to showcase this sometimes forgotten history of Rotherham,” Sam said. “Having spoken to the council and seen the heritage side of things, I really got to understand the meaning behind Rockingham Pottery and its historical importance.

“My garden allows the community to come together and remember this forgotten history and also for younger people to connect with this famous artwork that they might not know about.”

Amidst the planting, towering ceramic sculptures rise like echoes of the great Waterloo kiln, their curved forms a testament to Yorkshire’s spirit of invention and design.

“The planting was very much inspired by formal gardens, it’s very foliage rich, there’s lots of textures and shapes and contrasts of green,” added Sam. “The structural plants that rise through this patterns of Rockingham Pottery.”
