OUR WINNER Tesco Finest Salted Caramel Egg 310g, £9 A smooth Belgian milk chocolate base with creamy milk and white chocolate. Both are sweetened with crunchy caramel pieces and enhanced by a hint of sea salt... With a description like that, we were salivating before we’d even opened the box.

The egg is split into two halves, so you can enjoy the best of both. As we split this thick and decadent egg in half, a few members of the panel even let out some “oohs” and “aahs”. The salt beautifully balances out the sweet caramel and chocolate, it’s an impressive size, well-presented and is egg-cellent value for money. The fact that we couldn’t help going back for seconds, was also a strong indicator that this was the best of the bunch.

BEST ALL-ROUNDER Betty’s Trio of Spring Flower Eggs 250g, £27.50 Not sure whether your loved-one likes milk, dark or white chocolate? This trio ticks all the boxes. The dark chocolate egg is rich with delicious depth of flavour, the white (or should we say silver?) chocolate was creamy and obviously of a high quality, while the milk chocolate was a good balance of the two. Like most products in Betty’s Easter range, they were beautifully hand-crafted and decorated with flower frosting.

BEST FOR ALLERGIES Booja-Booja Around Midnight Espresso Easter Egg 35g, £9.99 Not only were we impressed by the gorgeously painted, egg-shaped wooden box this was presented in, we also couldn’t believe how deliciously silky these truffles were – especially considering they are organic and dairy, gluten and soya free.

Coffee lovers will also enjoy the authentic flavour.

BEST FOR KIDS Thorntons White Chocolate Bunny 200g, £6 Thorntons is a must if you’ve got kids to buy for this Easter and this white chocolate bunny is a great choice. As well as being a decent size with a detailed kid-friendly design, you’re sure to get good quality chocolate from a high street favourite.

BEST FOR DARK CHOCOLATE LOVERS Chococo Luxury Madagascar MegaDark Egg 175g, £18 This one was certainly the coolest-looking of the bunch, with its geometric pattern and three layers of dark chocolate. If you know a true dark chocolate connoisseur, this bitter 85 per cent MegaDark egg is just the thing. Vegans and the ethically-minded can also rejoice, as the company strive to carefully source all their ingredients.

BEST FOR GROWN-UP KIDS Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Swiss Chocolate Bunny 440g, £6 A grown-up take on a classic kid’s choice, this Easter treat from Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference range is a realistic twist on the usual cartoon-esque hollow bunny. This was such a work of art, it was a shame to behead it. But we were soon rewarded with smooth Swiss milk chocolate, which was easy to break up as it bent rather than snapped, therefore avoiding pesky crumbs – well, it would be a shame to waste any. www.rmcmedia.co.uk 7
