Os primeiros barcos já fizeram a inscrição na Semana de Vela de Ilhabela 2018. Para as regatas marcadas entre 20 e 28 de julho já estão garantidas equipes que sempre estão na raia, como Caballo Loco, ORSON II, Áries 5 e Asbar IV, além de estreantes como Terra Natal, Mahalo e Sirius IV.

Os primeiros novamente Empolgados pela realização de mais uma regata de volta ao mundo na cidade, os catarinenses do Itajaí Sailing Team foram os primeiros a se inscrever na Semana de Vela de Ilhabela 2018. Os velejadores repetiram o processo nas duas últimas edições e estarão nas disputas da classe IRC. ''O Itajaí Sailing Team participa da Semana de Vela de Ilhabela desde 2015, quando obtivemos a segunda colocação na categoria ORC. No ano seguinte fomos vice-campeões na categoria IRC e terceiro colocado no ano passado. Neste ano vamos para ganhar'', garante o manager do IST, Alexandre Antonio dos Santos.

Inscrições A primeira fase de inscrições vai até 24 de junho e tem o preço de R$ 150 por tripulante. Valor esse com desconto para as tripulações de veleiros que ficarem em seus clubes ou amarras próprias.

Para as tripulações de veleiros que ficarem nas poitas do Yacht Club de Ilhabela, o preço fica em R$ 300 por tripulante. Já as equipes que escolherem uma vaga na marina do Yacht Club de Ilhabela, o custo será de R$ 470 por tripulante.

O acesso ao sistema de inscrições estará disponível até 15 de julho de 2018. O valor do pagamento da taxa de inscrição do veleiro será definido no momento da inscrição.

Ventos no Atlântico Norte ajudaram equipes a bater recordes de milhas percorridas em 24 horas O Team Brunel venceu, no fim da noite desta segunda-feira (28), a nona etapa da Volvo Ocean Race com apenas 4 minutos de vantagem para team AkzoNobel, da brasileira Martine Grael.

A prova foi uma das mais rápidas da história da regata de Volta ao Mundo e teve ao todo 3.300 milhas de Newport (Estados Unidos) a Cardiff (País de Gales).

'Foi muito bom vencer a etapa e chegar na frente dos barcos vermelhos (MAPFRE e Dongfeng) que estão na liderança. Foi uma disputa forte e decidida no fim contra o AkzoNobel'', disse Bouwe Bekking, comandante do Team Brunel.

A equipe holandesa do Brunel fez o percurso em 8 dias, 8 horas e 39 minutos. Os compatriotas do

AkzoNobel em 8 dias, 8 horas e 43 minutos. ''A gente gostaria da vitória, ficamos um pouco frustrados de não ter vencido, mas o segundo lugar é um ótimo resultado'', explicou a brasileira Martine Grael, integrante do AkzoNobel.

Com a vitória da etapa de pontuação dobrada, o Team Brunel levou 15 pontos e o Akzonobel 12. Em terceiro lugar em Cardiff chegou o Dongfeng Race Team, que assumiu a liderança da classificação geral.

Na madrugada desta terça-feira (29) chegou o Vestas 11th Hour Racing em quarto lugar. O MAPFRE foi o quinto e o Turn the Tide on Plastic o sexto. O SHK / Scallywag deve completar a prova até o fim desta terça.

A próxima etapa será entre Cardiff (País de Gales) e Gotemburgo (Suécia). A largada será em 10 de junho e a etapa terá 1.300 milhas náuticas. Restam apenas duas para o final do campeonato.

Ocean Race. Durante a disputa da nona etapa da Volvo Ocean Race, o team AkzoNobel conseguiu percorrer 601,63 milhas náuticas em um dia no Atlântico.

Foi superado o recorde anterior do evento, batido em 2008-09 pelo Ericsson 4, comandado pelo brasileiro Torben Grael, pai de Martine, com 596 milhas náuticas. ''Essa perna foi especial pela quebra do recorde de milhas percorridas em 24 horas e também por sido a mais forte que disputei. A equipe toda foi bem!

Acho que vão falar por alguns anos sobre essa nossa chegada aqui”, disse Martine Grael. ''O recorde ficou em família.

Quem sabe agora ele não é desafiado a tentar voltar a correr a Volvo Ocean Race e tomar outra vez essa marca''.

Este resultado, sumado al hecho de que este cruce transatlántico puntuaba doble, ha permitido al Dongfeng Race Team ascender al liderato en la general, mientras que el MAPFRE es ahora segundo a un punto y el Team Brunel es tercero a tres puntos del líder.

La batalla por el título de la Volvo Ocean Race no puede estar más emocionante cuando quedan únicamente dos etapas para que concluya la presente edición (con finales en Gotemburgo y La Haya).

Tanto MAPFRE como Dongfeng Race Team son los dos únicos barcos que dependen de sí mismos: si alguno de ellos logra el triunfo en las dos etapas restantes, se llevará el título; en caso contrario,

habrá muchos números que hacer.

Hay que recordar que el equipo que concluya la regata con el menor tiempo acumulado en la suma de todas las etapas se llevará un punto adicional, una clasificación que lidera el Dongfeng, y que, en caso de empate a puntos al final, la general de las In-Port Series será la que desequilibre la balanza.

"No ha sido una etapa fácil para nosotros.

Ha sido muy complicado desde el primer día y nunca pudimos remontar con los primeros", dijo el patrón del MAPFRE, Xabi Fernández. "Pero estamos con confianza.

Espero que podamos comenzar bien y luchar y darlo todo en las dos próximas etapas".

Blair Tuke, por su parte, también confía plenamente en las opciones del equipo español. "No ha sido una buena etapa para nosotros, pero la competición a veces es así. Dongfeng y Brunel van a ser dos rivales complicados, pero confío en nuestra actuación en estas dos últimas etapas".

For Dongfeng Race Team it was a satisfying case of “mission accomplished” on Leg 9 of the 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race from Newport to Cardiff, as they beat their main rivals MAPFRE and returned to the top of the leaderboard with just two legs to come.

But the team skippered by Charles Caudrelier of France and sponsored by the Chinese car and truck manufacturer Dongfeng Motor Corporation, still has its work cut out to convert its one-point lead over MAPFRE and a three-point margin over third-placed – and much-improved - Team Brunel into outright victory.

After reaching the Welsh capital in third place after eight-and-a-half days at sea and a thrilling transatlantic battle, Dongfeng Race Team now sits on 60 points with MAPFRE on 59 and Team Brunel on 57. However Dongfeng will earn one extra point at the finish in The Hague for the fastest elapsed time in the race and this could be decisive.

The Dongfeng navigator Pascal Bidegorry believes the crew now needs to pull off at least one leg win and as a result gain at least one more extra point in the remaining two legs, something Dongfeng Race Team has yet to achieve in this very closefought eight-month contest. “ We have to win a leg because the extra point is really important now,” said Bidegorry on the dockside at the Volvo Ocean Race village in Cardiff. “We have to finish in front of MAPFRE and Team Brunel during the last two legs and for that we need to win – there it is,” he added.

His skipper and fellow Frenchman Charles Caudrelier was also sounding a cautious note, knowing that the battle for glory in this race is now a three-way affair. But Caudrelier’s smiling face said more than his words about the relief he was feeling after Dongfeng negotiated the light winds and strong adverse tidal conditions to hold onto her sixth podium finish in Wales.

“It’s nice (to be at the head of the leaderboard) and I am a bit relieved to come in

here in third place, but we are only one point ahead of MAPFRE and there are just three points to Brunel, so it is two boats that we have to keep behind us now and not only one,” he said.

“So it’s going to be interesting to follow for people watching – the race is far from finished. The level of performance between the boats is very even and it’s a big fight for every place and it is much more difficult than at this stage in the last race,” Caudrelier added.

Dongfeng Race Team set sail from Newport still smarting form the disastrous finish to the previous leg there when the Chinese-flagged crew led with 15 miles to sail only to cross the line in fourth place after drifting in almost no wind. This time the goal was to attack and to regain the overall lead and this they achieved on a leg which saw some classic, record-breaking heavy weather racing.

Bidegorry says the team sailed a brilliant leg from America and at one stage fought well to come back on the MAPFRE and keep her behind. “I think the crew sailed very, very well to come back and to gain all the time,” he said. “It was a pleasure. Even at the end – we push and push - we know we have for the moment one point for leading on elapsed time and maybe at the end, this point is really important.”

Dutch sailor Carolijn Brouwer remembered the early stages when Dongfeng split to the north. “It has been a tough leg,” she

said. “It happened very early in the leg where there was a split in the fleet and that was nerve-wracking for the first 48 hours, but luckily we had MAPFRE come with us.

“Team AkzoNobel and Brunel had a big lead on the fleet,” she added. “But we managed to come back well and we won our side of the fleet at least and managed to catch two boats on the other side which brought us to third and brings us back in the lead which is huge. But it is also difficult now with Brunel’s win.”

Brouwer added: “I cannot imagine how intense the next two legs are going to be.

They are going to be epic. They are two short sprint legs and it is everything or nothing.”

Chinese sailor Chen Jinhao – Horace – is always one to look on the bright side and he is confident his team can pull this off in the final few weeks of this Volvo Ocean Race.

“I believe we can do it,” he said. “Now we are the leaders and you can see that the top three boats are very close, so we know that the next two legs will be tough and important. We will try to rest where we can in this stopover and be ready to fight.”

Kevin Escoffier, meanwhile, is ready to take on the challenge of the final two legs, first from Cardiff to Gothenburg and then from Gothenburg to The Hague. “With

Brunel winning this one it means that the finish will be quite stressful. The finish will be amazing. We would like to have a bit more points of the lead but it is what it is,” he said.

“The finish here wasn’t too bad. I am from St Malo so I am used to the tide and very strong currents. It is a very wide river, though, and when you have boats in the north and the south you are always afraid of that. It was stressful for four hours when we were in the light spot as we didn’t know what the other boats had. We knew the wind would come back and we would be OK though. MAPFRE was 30 miles behind Vestas 11th Hour Racing, so we knew it wouldn’t be like Newport.

“I think we are very consistent on board,” Escoffier added. “We don’t have any big lows and we don’t have any big highs. We only have to get through those last few moments to win the next one.”

This is Dongfeng Race Team’s second consecutive Volvo Ocean Race after finishing third overall in 2014-15. The team is committed to trying to win this edition and also to help promote and develop the sport of sailing in China.
