Help Our Green Efforts at Falcon Point!
We began our “Green Initiatives” at Falcon Point several years ago. We have continued our efforts each year through different programs and certifications. Last year alone more than 44,000 lbs. were recycled through our single stream recycling program, bringing our trash diversion rate to 41.35% in 2022. While staying at Falcon Point consider some of these ways to help us not only reduce our energy usage but reduce our carbon footprint. If you have proven green efforts, please share them with us.
LIGHTS, HEAT AND TV
Turn off all lights and TV’s when leaving your unit. Consider turning your heat down when leaving for an extended period of time, or in the evenings when you go to bed.
TOWELS & LINENS
During your mid-week towel exchange, place dirty towels in the bathtub, save the clean ones. Don’t forget to hang your towels for reuse to help save water, this includes your pool towels.
KITCHEN TRASH & RECYCLE BINS
The “Black bags” are for trash and the “Blue bins” are for recycling.
RECYCLE DUMPSTERS

The recycle dumpster is located on Level P at the south end of the garage. Remember No plastic bags in the recycle bin or recycle dumpster. Remember, no organic material such as food waste is NOT allowed in recycling, it will contaminate the entire dumpster, please place in the trash. See the “single steam recycling” diagram on the following page.
SINGLE USE PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES
Hydrating is very important in the high country. Consider using your own water bottle or purchasing a re-usable one. You can refill it at our fountain in the clubhouse by the fitness room.
COMPLETED SUSTAINABLE PROJECTS
Installing low-water toilets, hot water heater blankets, pipe insulation, controllable thermostats, energy smart appliances and boilers. In 2013 we implemented the use of recycled paper products and trash tracking. In 2015 Low-E windows and glass doors were installed in all the units. We completed our LED lighting project in 2017 with 99% LEDs installed in all the residences and common areas.
In 2019 we replaced the pool and spa boilers with new energy efficient units and completed our in unit hot water heater replacements. After receiving a grant from Holy Cross Electric, we received 2 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations and installed them in our parking garage for our guests to use. The main air handler (heating system) in the clubhouse was replaced with an energy efficient one. Since 2014 we have maintained our “green certifications”, and work with the East West Sustainability committee.
Through the “Coalition for Clean Air” a “Purple Air Monitor” was installed outside the lobby. This system is based on a real time air quality monitoring network, built with a new generation of sensors. You can view air quality around the world! Visit purpleair.com for more information.
As new innovative products and solutions become available, we will continue to look for new sustainable practices helping to reduce our energy use and costs and reduce our carbon footprint!

Welcome to Colorado’s High Country!
We’re glad you’re here and hope you enjoy every moment of your stay. The mountain environment is breathtakingly beautiful — but it can also take a little adjustment, especially if you’ve come from lower elevations. Follow these tips to stay comfortable and make the most of your visit.
Adjusting to Altitude
At elevations around 7,000–10,000 feet, the air is thinner and contains less oxygen. You may notice mild shortness of breath, a light headache, or fatigue during your first day or two. These are normal signs that your body is adjusting.
To help your body acclimate:
• Drink plenty of water — more than you think you need.
• Take it easy the first day and avoid overexertion.
• Go light on alcohol and caffeine, which can worsen dehydration.
• Eat well, focusing on healthy carbohydrates for energy.
If symptoms worsen or you feel dizzy, nauseated, or very short of breath, contact a local medical provider. Doctors in mountain towns are familiar with altitude illness and can help you recover quickly.
Sun & Weather
The mountain sun is powerful — even on cloudy days!
• Apply sunscreen and SPF lip balm frequently.
• Wear UV-protective sunglasses to prevent eye strain or snow glare.
• Dress in layers; afternoons can be warm, while evenings turn cool fast.
• Be alert for hypothermia (shivering, confusion, exhaustion). If it happens, get warm, eat, and rest immediately.
Stay Hydrated
Colorado’s crisp, dry air means your body loses moisture faster through breathing — often without realizing it. At higher elevations, about 20–25% of your fluid loss comes from increased breathing alone, as the thinner air makes you breathe more often.
Keep a water bottle with you and sip throughout the day to stay ahead of dehydration.
If you wear contact lenses, use lubricating drops as needed for comfort.

HIGH ALTITUDE TIPS

Planning to hike, bike, or explore?
• Carry water, snacks, and extra layers — even on short outings.
• Treat or filter all stream and lake water before drinking.
• Watch the weather; afternoon storms can build quickly.
• Know your limits and rest before you get too tired.
• Always let someone know your route and expected return time.
Enjoy Your Stay
Take your time, breathe deeply, and soak in the incredible scenery that makes Colorado’s mountains so special. With a little preparation, you’ll feel great and have an unforgettable stay.
Enjoy your stay and take it slow — the mountains will wait for you!
