SAY YES TO LIFE! Passion for the human being and passion for beauty were the main inspiration for launching RYL / Refresh Your Life e-magazine. It is lifestyle & mindstyle magazine for people who are on the path of personal growth and development, spirituality, beauty, fashion, art & culture. RYL is designed to create a positive life concept. Various people write for the magazine, such as psychologists, life coaches, motivational coaches, specialists in food, fashion, body, culture; all to inspire readers and encourage them to make positive changes and take a big step forward in life. We are here to support beauty and richness of human life. Based on that the main topic in this first issue in an English version is …..say YES to LIFE! Luisa Hay said “As I say ‘yes’ to life, life says yes to me”. Authors worldwide have gathered to show the readers how important it is to say ‘Yes’ to life through a stong emotion, personal transformation, new beginning/restart, proper kudalini yoga practice, a healthy diet and love that spreads by sight and touch. Look at the world around you. Look at your life, home, family, co-workers, pets and strangers in the street, and hold it tight. Ant trust the life process. Have faith that you are safe and that the Universe knows what’s best for you. Say ‘Yes’ to life, whatever you encounter along the way.

Find a way to see your world and your life in a different, better and brighter way, because you have the main role in all of your novels, dramas, comedies and tragedies. Choose the best life scenario and stick to it. Do not be afraid of anything. Say ‘Yes‘ to life because you deserve it. You need a vision and desire, so you should focus on the goal that you wish to accomplish. If you go towards life, it will reciprocate. However, you need to know what you truly want, as it all starts with a deep desire. Live your dreams, passions and ideas. Feel free to say ‘Yes‘ to life and it will support you because life can support only when there’s faith. Set new challenges in 2017 and aim for them. Do you know the feeling when you think nothing can surprise you anymore and everything under the sun is clear to you? But I surprise myself by accepting the thought of a magazine in English that people worldwide will read; a magazine that expands its audience and horizons. I have courage and faith that RYL team can do it. YES we CAN! ‘There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.’ Albert Einstein I live my life as if everything was a miracle, creating magic and beauty worldwide. Anima Mundi

EMOTION AS A WAY WORDS: PRIM. DR. ANÐELKA KOLAREVIĆ, PSYCHIATRIST, PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Man, although separated from the nature he keeps in himself its cycles, which are invisibly and insensibly expressed together with the rhythm of nature. During the winter and cold and dark days, everyone experience the feeling to cuddle in his warm and comfortable apartment or feels the lack of energy. He needs more sleep and he would idle as the nature does. As the nature wakes up and shows with its outcrops and longer lasting days with more and more sun, likewise our organism refreshes and gets strength and mood changes. Emotions which man has got to regulate relations between himself and it’s nature with the world that surrounds

him, depends on how much importance we give to that world or how we experience that world depends on our system of value. What is important to us will bring a certain emotion. Change alone and the awakens of the nature will be noticed and will excite any person who rejoices changes. Who notices the reborn, who is in line with himself and its surrounding he will notice the changes and in himself. You will wake up with joy and serenity with the urge for your change and action. All the others, although there is a change happening on a biological level in them for preparing for the arrival of the awakening the nature, who struggle with their inner ISSUE #23, JANUARY 2017.

arguing, unsolved problems, depression, variety of fear – real and irrational, they won’t notice the new outcrops or budding of everything around them. How to wake up our true nature, that childish joy we all were moving through days, without fears, without worries? The man of this days, often, with more ruthless technological requirements of work, thinks and believes that he has to struggle, and that he can not relax and enjoy, neglects his sensations of pleasure, often pressed to provide themselves and their families decent life. What is often overlooked is the fact that we have everything that we need in our life.

Every situation, experience, emotion. The life by itself. Thus, our bad, unpleasant emotions are given to us in the right time and those emotions we judge as threatening, unsatisfactory, according to what we could or wanted to achieve. The same unpleasant emotions can wake up and convert into the good mood, they can awake our will, and give us strength for the future. In which way? First we have to understand that they are not bigger than ourselves, then that we are not responsible for what occurred, because they are natural reaction to what is important to us. However, we are responsible for how we use them, and how we

will manifest them. Even the bad emotions, if properly they are understood, can help us become a better person! In the beginning we have to get aware of them to recognize that we are tense, angry, sad, irritable ... And to pause a little bit and accept them. Like some kind of a gift we don’t really like. Then to ask ourselves for what we were, what was our goal, before we felt that way. Is that goal something that we can reach in this moment and for how long we can postpone it? And maybe we can not do anything, and we have to accept it. But we can always do something else. At the moment of our bad mood we can feed birds or prepare E-MAGAZIN RYL - REFRESH YOUR LIFE

our favorite cake, to take our loved ones for a walk or to go out and sit on a bench and stare at rising of the nature. All together with the accepted unpleasant emotion. Let us be aware of it, it will slowly melt in acceptance and will become our strength to continue. All around us is a calling. The call to change, to grow, to give. To just be yourself, and get the most out of life, and be in line with ourselves, the world and the others. When we put things this way, we will achieve exactly what is the most important to us - the right to exist and love.

PHOTO STORY

HAMBURG GATEWAY TO THE WORLD (TOR ZUR WELT) Hamburg is the city located on the North of Germany, some 110 km from the mouth of the Elbe into the North Sea. The most famous and the most used harbor and port for centuries. The magic of The Old Port can be felt in each part of it. You may feel the energy and power of wealth, money and the goods being transported trough it, but also the power of emotions of people leaving the Europe longing for new homes on the other continents. Hamburg is the city with more bridges then Venice and Amsterdam together and that is giving the special charm to it, on the top of the strong business and strict impression that you may have at first. A lot of birds and specially seagulls give the atmosphere of freedom to expand. Wintertime is a great time to visit Hamburg due to Christmas Markets and the special wine (Glühwein) you may taste, smiles and brightness of people and street music that reminds you on the most beautiful part of the year. ISSUE #23, JANUARY 2017.

WHAT DOES THE NAME OF YOUR COMPANY “AURA”, MEAN? I had been thinking about it for a month. As someone who studied languages I knew it had to be a name with a sound. Am not sure how did I get to the name of Aura, but I liked the many meanings of this word. It is the first association that stands above a man, AURUM – gold, breeze. It is not a chance that I chose this name, everybody has their aura. HOW DO YOU SEE A WOMAN IN THE 21ST CENTURY? The Balkans is an area in which the matrix of our mothers, grandmothers, greatgrandmothers, still rules. In the Balkans, it is difficult to be the women that we, the two of us, are. The woman in the Balkans is seen as a person who is at home and around the family and who has no other interest. For me, family is only a part of her life as she needs to have her own other interests. A woman must have an income, because she will feel

more valued. No one has ever made me so satisfied as I have made myself when I can afford something for myself. The woman has to be independent. I think that the sum of money is completely irrelevant, it is essential that they have created something themselves and they need to cease to fear the environment, to stop caring only about the family and children. I think this way of thinking is still present in our society, that business women are viewed in a negative connotation, that a business woman is not a woman, that she is not a good mother, that she cannot be a wife, a housewife, or if she is dressed up that she cannot cook. The woman must have an absolute width. Unfortunately, this is not accepted as it is in the rest of the world. Here women who are engaged in some business are seen as a MIRACLE, received with excessive attention and emphasized in relation to men, which is in the world is completely common and normal. HOW MUCH COURAGE DID IT TAKE TO BECOME THE PERSON THAT YOU

ISSUE #23, JANUARY 2017.

29

ARE TODAY, THE PERSON THAT MILA LITVINJENKO IS TODAY? In my case I would not call it courage, it was a moment. I recognized the moment. I had that extra energy, for a short while I worked for what I educated myself. And I felt something was missing and recognized that moment. I am responsible and determined, when I start something, I must finish it. And then, the Balkan mentality prevailed, what will people say if I don’t succeed? And there was spite and determination, because people thought for a long while that behind me and my games, there is a man. And for over 10 years I tickled the fantasy about a man, which in reality, did not exist. Behind me, there was ME. I recognized what will make me happy, where I will manifest my energy. To me, my job I a hobby, passion and love, and through it I am taken by passion and openness. I was ready to learn. That moment of learning and openness is the moment for innovation. For five years I had as a mentor a Canadian lady who told me that I possess everything except the courage to turn things around. I may have feared bigger changes, but in one moment I made a cut and turned around the business, and ever since I am not afraid of changes anymore. I realized that changes are excellent things and that a man needs to change, because that is the only way it will go forward. Information is the most important thing of all. I was told, Mila, information arrive late to you. Now I have the information, and I make decisions fast and in the moment. YOU ARE OPEN TO MENTORS, HELP, AND ADVICE, ALL IN ORDER TO IMPROVE YOUR BUSINESS. IS THIS YOUR KEY TO SUCCESS? In the company, when we were starting, nobody knew much but I could allow to show it, as it would have been taken against me. I remember, when registering the company, I asked my lawyer for what can one go to prison to see what not to do. I played a lot. In Serbia is very difficult to find information, because people don’t allow anyone to enter their companies. I was very open, and seven years ago, my mentor, a German lady gave me some key advice for the job. People really influenced me with their knowledge.

A few years ago I did not know what human resources is, I thought it was some function just like that, and then I realized that I am doing most of the work in the company. So I’m always open to new knowledge, people and learning. “SUCCESS IS IMPORTANT ONLY TO ENABLE A PERSON TO DO WHAT HE LOVES”. HAVE YOU MANAGED TO SEPARATE THE BUSINESS SUCCECC AND THE PRIVATE PERSON MILA? I am often being asked what success is, to me success is to be able to do what I love and there is no separation. I love what I do, it is a creative as I create products from an idea. Of course, apart from what I do, there are plenty of other things that interest me. In my opinion, it is a big success to do what you love but still, work does not represent the whole 24h of my day. IN A BUSINESS SENSE, MILA IS A LADY DRAGON, SPIRITUALLY, IS SHE AWAKEN? WHAT WAS YOUR TURNING POINT OF YOUR AWAKENING AND SELF DEVELOPMENT? They say that people are mostly triggered for awakening by bankruptcy, divorce or cancer. I was awakened by a man who asked me: “Who loves Mila the most?” My answer was: my father, my daughter….and then I saw the surprised look on his face. He told me: Mila must love Mila the most. From that moment I realized that I can be good to others only if I am good to myself. That was a turning point and my awakening - once I started to listen to myself, and stopped looking at what will my projection in the eyes of others be, as it turns to be a huge delusion. HOW IS IT WALKING IN YOUR SHOES? IS THERE SOMETHING BOTHERING YOU, HURTING YOU, IS IT COMFORTABLE? Walking is never easy, it would not be interesting if it were. Those calluses make you want to take your shoes off, to fix them in order to continue the path. I like to feel uncomfortable, that makes you take your shoes off and bypass the obstacle. I take obstacles differently now than few years ago,

E-MAGAZIN RYL - REFRESH YOUR LIFE

30

they are challenges to me now. And make me better. WHAT HAS YOUR 100% FOCUS? I am never in one place and cannot calm my brain down, it works constantly, and this is reflected also through my dreams, because I dream all the time. I have a strong intuition and I learnt to let myself go. Many things occupy my mind and those are not Aura any and work, only. TELL US ABOUT YOUR LATEST PROJECT “AURA BEAUTY LOUNGE” Aura’s Beauty Lounge opened on November 1, 2016 in Belgrade’s district of Vračar with the aim to educate women in the field of skincare and makeup. It is very important

that a woman wears good make-up and that it looks natural. The secret of good makeup is to be natural and authentic Aura’s mission is to teach women how to choose the right color of foundation, how to highlight the eyes and lips while remaining true to themselves and unique. The complexion of a woman should always be looking radiant, fresh and healthy. ARE YOU THE HERO OF YOUR LIFE STORY? I am the hero of my life story. But also is the AURA team that I have next to me. I have helped them understand that what we do is good. We believe in what we do. Without them, there would not be this Aura. Trust, endurance, determination and passion bring results.

LOVE IS THE LIFE’S MAIN REWARD ISSUE #23, JANUARY 2017.

35

Bruno Šimleša, a Croatian author of the most read books of popular psychology. He based his positive attitude on his personal well-being, and on discovering the main questions of life. A charming, funny, conscientious and positive approach to the themes concerning life matters gives him an opportunity to answer all of the life’s questions simply, easily, but with a great wisdom. He is a sociologist, truth seeker, and a psychologist. His novel “Loveology” is a bestseller on the Balkan’s market. His books do not offer instant solutions, but practical tools which help us to have a healthy relationship towards ourselves and others.

AUTHOR: ANIMA MUNDI PHOTOS: NINA ĐURĐEVIĆ

HOW MUCH LOVE WE ALL NEED? “NEVER TOO MUCH OF LOVE”, SAYS HE IN THE BOOK. I think that none of us can be happy if we do not love. Love is something that fulfills us with a sense of meaning and purposefulness. Only when we love, do we know why and what we are made for. However, have in mind that I do not narrow love down only to romantic love. She is an important face of love, but is only one of the faces of love. And it is sad when we experience all other kind of love as a comforting reward. For example when somebody asks you how your love life is going, and we answer something like:”I don’t have anybody special, but at least I love my kids…” For me it is desperate when words such as „at least“ and „love“ find one next to each other, for love is always a life’s reward. Always! Love towards everyone and everybody. Love towards children, friends, nature, God, art, freedom... All of these are kinds of love that deserve to be fully celebrated and they can teach us to love, and with all of them or hearts can be worth of love. So, romantic love does not represent a crown of our love relationships, but only one of the jewels of love. What differs this kind of love from all other love relationships is the

complexity – it is the most complicated one, because the level of wrong expectations is the highest exactly in such relationships. This is exactly why our heart can learn that it is worth of love even through other, simpler relationship forms. DO WE KNOW HOW TO LOVE? WHAT IS LOVE, AND WHAT IS NOT? HOW TO FREE OURSELVES FROM A BELIEF THAT WE ARE NOT WORTH OF LOVE? We give a name “love” to many different things. If somebody has strong feelings for us, or if somebody is extremely possessive, we think that this is so because that person loves us. We will even name jealous relationships “love”, or, if we like somebody. But these have nothing to do with love. If you think that your partner is perfect, you do not love him/her for sure. This is a liking which is followed by an idealization of a partner. From all those powerful emotions, your brain melts, and then you see in your partner only what you want to see. Perfect people and perfect relationships do not exist. You can love your partners only if you notice that they possess certain flaws, but are so drawn and thrilled by the virtues and relationship commitment, so you can, with a clam stomach and a heart filled, accept that there are certain flaws, too.

E-MAGAZIN RYL - REFRESH YOUR LIFE

36

People often think that they have done enough if they marry and then stop trying to improve their relationships As if they did not know that they have to constantly get to know each other all over again, seduce and please their partners in order to be happy, because the goal is not to be in a marriage, but to be in a good marriage, and we need to make an effort to accomplish that. YOU ARE A TRULY HAPPY MAN. HOW DID YOU ACCOMPLISH THAT? I am happy because I am the person that I wanted to become. I have dear people around me. People with whom I am myself. I have got a wonderful family, a few true friends, and jobs that I enjoy in. Writing books is something I like the most, but I also like writing for newspapers, doing promotions and lecturing, meeting the readers.

I believe that we can teach ourselves that we are worth of love. It would be great to have received this feeling from our parents, but for the majority of people who haven’t, it is their responsibility to learn their heart how it is to love and to be loved. To start with, it would be enough to cherish all love relationships in our lives. All of them. As if they were the main reward of our lives. For they exactly are that! IN THE ERA OF TECHNOLOGY AND INTERNET, WHEN IT SEEMS THAT THE WORLD IS AT OUR FINGERTIPS, THERE ARE LESS AND LESS SINCERITY, DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT. WHAT KINDS OF CHANGES HAPPEN IN PEOPLE, BUT ALSO IN RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN PEOPLE IN THIS MODERN AGE? I think that we are more prone to idealizing a romantic love. Romantic comedies have infected us with the idea that it is sufficient only to meet the right person, and that everything else would simply fall into its own place. And since we represent ourselves in the best light on social networks, it is easier to gain a false sense of the simplicity of relationships

However, nothing was easy to accomplish. I had to make a great effort to succeed in putting that theory of life that I understand well, into practice. The majority of us know what we should do, but we lack the courage or wisdom or persistence to do exactly that. For this reason, behind me have been a number of years of making efforts, reviewing, dealing with my own weaknesses, learning from my successes, but also from my failures. Of course, I am still learning, but I believe that I have learned extremely well all of the basic lessons of life! HOW DOES A FAMILY IN THE 21ST CENTURY LOOK LIKE? It is less important how a family appears to be from the outside and far more important how it feels from the inside. I do not think that only a mother a father and children make a picture of a perfect family. Sometimes perfect families have only one parent, and sometimes, due to different circumstances, children can be brought up by their grandparents, or relatives. I think that people of the same sex can make a healthy family. It is not important how a family looks like form the outside. It is more important that family members treat each other with respect, to try to understand and support each other! This is how a healthy and happy family is created! ACCORDING TO THE BOOK „THE SCHOOL OF LIFE“HOW MANY STEPS TO HAPPINESS ARE THERE AND WHICH ARE THE TOOLS FOR REACHING HAPPINESS? WE CREATE THE REALITY THAT WE WANT TO LIVE IN There are 673 steps, exactly that many!

ISSUE #23, JANUARY 2017.

37

I am joking, of course. Each of us has a different read to happiness, but there are some tools that can help everybody. In the book “The school of life” I talk about 5 tools of heart and 5 tools of mind which can help us to strengthen ourselves and transform us into mature and healthy persons. One of the most important is to develop a healthy relationship towards our own virtues. Namely, the majority of people take for granted what is good inside of them, and they primarily focus on their flaws, thus acquiring an unrealistic sense of themselves. Therefore, we must develop a healthy self-respect and a sense of own value, so that we can start to experience our virtues with gratitude and proud! In this way we are going to have more power, energy, and wisdom to deal with and solve our own flaws. WORKING ON OURSELVES IS A HARD WORK. HOW CAN WE REACH AUTHENTICITY? WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN THAT PROCESS? The most important thing is to discover that you deserve love and to insist on it in relationships. Many people accept to be in a relationship in which they are not respected enough, and that is because they do not know that they are worth much more! I do not say that that is simple, and I do not have basic three steps to accomplish that because our psyche and reality are not at all so simple and banal. If somebody gives you recipes for life that sound too good to be true – that is exactly like that, they are indeed too god to be true. To be happy is demanding and obstacles do not exist!

I do not make too many distinct plans, because it has been shown that the universe is much more imaginative than me, so what is important to me is to be my own and authentic, so I do what I truly enjoy, and how that is going to turn out in the end – well, I have no idea!

WE CAN REALIZE EVERYTHING WE WANT – IS THAT REALLY SO?

WHAT ABOUT YOUR ATTITUDE TOWARDS LIFE? HOW DO YOU CELEBRATE LIFE?

No, those are spiritual nonsense. You cannot fly, you cannot change other people even if you want to, you cannot even change yourself just because you wish to do so in an amount of time you have imagined.

I celebrate it through love and dedication. I do not take life for granted on the contrary; I try to use every moment and opportunity. I try to squeeze the essence out of all my experiences.

Of course it is important to want to make a change. It is even important to visualize success, but the road to success is often a path strewn with thorns.

I do not experience abundance through material reality, although I am happy that I can live from writing books. But I consider myself rich because I know how to love, I have got a beautiful daughter and a wife, I have got a few friends, and an inexhaustible will for life. This year my goal was to create more free moments and to fully enjoy my free time. I, indeed, consider myself a wealthy person because I accomplish my goals!

WHAT IS YOUR NEXT STEP IN LIFE? I want the books to come alive even outside of the borders of our region. I want to continue to be a dedicated father and to have a healthy family.

GIFTS OF LIFE

WORDS: LJUBIŠA BORETOV PHOTO: ANIMA MUNDI

There are friendships as strong as mountains; not even people, years or boundaries can affect them. Some friendships are fragile like November leaf, one word can make them disappear forever, like they have never existed. One thing we should remember is that they can’t be ruined by itself, people are braking them. Yet again, friends are those who decide is their friendship going to be like a mountain, are they going to cherish it, to grow and strengthen as the solid rock. There are fears that everybody need to fight with. Some of them we can never cut loose. But the most important is to learn how not to be afraid, how to stand still through all ups and downs. The life is teaching us that the final punch is the most important one, the one who

determents are we going to fight back or give up, are we going to be fearless or frightened. We don’t become week when we don’t fight back. We become cowards when we bow. Even when we aren’t strong enough to get out from the fight as winners, we shouldn’t be afraid to fight. The win isn’t when we defeat the rival, win is to stand up for ourselves. There are loves which don’t last long, but they never end. Those are the ones you push aside not to think about them, but from time to time, they rise from the deepest corners of our memories and haunts us for a moment, until reality swoop back. There are loves that we are trying to get over so that they stop hurting. And then, when the wounds are heeled, they become sweet memory which we hold like the child is

holding his blanket. When the day allows us to slip away for a moment, we enjoy embracing the memories. There are years that bring peace, when we become nobody’s but ourselves. There are years when we become strong, independent, experienced, and powerful – years when life brings us a pleasure of fulfilment as a gift; and a power. The power to hold our life in our own hands and live by the rules that we have written. Only then the pleasure in all the things we have fought for, can be found without guilt, fear, or sense of responsibility, but only with inner peace and happiness. Nevertheless, who knows exactly which years of life are the years of pleasure? Who can predict when they comes? Every person is coming to

this life with the burden of constant quest for the peace and prosperity. Years, for some even decades, of hard practice are needed until we found it. Gifts of life are all around us. What we need is to see and accept them, so that we can embrace ourselves as we are, and by doing so, help others to see who we really are, and love us.

Jazz Fest Sarajevo 2016 celebrated an important jubilee - its 20th anniversary, with a large number of excellent concerts. When we say large number, we really mean it because on some of the festival days there were even seven or eight concerts and jams that took place in only one day. From the 2nd to the 6th of November, on four festival stages, the audience was presented with many world known artists from 20 countries. In this “celebratory” edition of the Sarajevo Jazz Fest we saw performances by Norwegian pianist Bugge Wesseltoft, whose concert opened the festival, John Zorn, Markus Stockhausen, Rob Mazurek, Matija Dedic, Bojan Zulfikarpasic, Taksim Trio, Terje Rypdal with special guest Palle Mikkelborg, Uri Caine, Django Bates and many, many others. The festival premiered numerous musical projects, the central event of the 20th Jazz Fest was the European premiere of the project of avant-garde musician John Zorn’s “Bagatelles” which gathered 11 bands and individual performers during several hours of his musical marathon. Another premier event that attracted the attention of the audience was a project by the British composer and pianist Django Bates, designed specifically for the anniversary of the Sarajevo Festival. He arrived in Sarajevo with his band, the Human Chains Orchestra lead by the young talented vocal soloist Claire Huguenin, and their performance was brilliant. Human Chains band consists of young musicians from the jazz department of the Bern Hochschule der Künste. We have been visiting the Jazz Fest Sarajevo for two years now and it can be said that the festival is flourishing, with its bold and diverse program, performances by avant-garde musicians, rich content and many workshops for young jazz musicians Jazz Fest Sarajevo is a true refreshment in the musical and cultural sky of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire region. THE SCIENCE WITH THE SOUL - WITH PUPIN THE WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL

TEXT: ALEKSANDRA NINKOVIĆ-TASIĆ PHOTOS: PRIVATE ARCHIVE

The exploring the history of science means to explore the private history of extraordinary people, their restless destinies, growing up, fears and love. What kind of enthusiasm has led them to their scientific knowledge? What has been written on their souls sometimes was as equally important as what they have born in mind. The whole life of one of the greatest minds of science can fit in a single word - Love. Love for country, mother, life, wife, birth place, science, his students, and children. And that would be just the beginning of the list. His love is the engine of a viable, useful life. To bestow others your whole life can be done only with a great love. According to that, it is not odd what Pupin has written to Dr Vlada Petković, the director of the National Museum: You say: “Due to a fact that you are a patriot and a benefactor, I will be free enough to propose you to be honored with a decent medal”. I am kindly asking you not to do that, because I do not take any awards for the small gifts that can, in my opinion, make me more pleasure than to those who accept gifts. Please be sure that whatever I do now, and what I will maybe do in the future for the National Museum, is the expression of my pure love to this institution which suffered so much during the war. For him, the science was love to the eternal truth, even the machines in Pupin’s notes have the soul, due to a fact that they have been made by a human being. The simplicity of this brilliant mind and his will to make this world a better place will write down one of the richest heritage in the history of science.

He didn’t emphasize his private life, didn’t leave a clear clue about people he loved, about members of his family in USA. The autobiography that has been red by the whole world didn’t have the assign to speak about everyday life, the purpose of it was to represent the Serbian people and the Serbian mother to the Americans, as Pupin has explained to the priest in Idvor. She was there to motivate and give strength, not to give details from the personal life. This is the reason why we today, 81 years after Pupin’s death, after many searching, we find out that the full name of his daughter was Barbara Ivanka Pupin, that his wife Sarah Catharine Jackson was widow when she has met Mihajlo Pupin, and that he took care of the children with true love of a father, Frederick James and Mary Virginia Smith that she has brought to their marriage. After their mother has passed away, he has prepared them for life, by taking care of their education, and their marriages. We get the information about troubles of young Vava, as Pupin has called his daughter, her two marriages, the divorce, lifestyle, important dates about lives of children from the first marriage of his wife, thanks to the newspapers from the beginning of the century, the big, famous newspapers, but even the local ones, with archives that we can consider a real treasure if we want to look Mihajlo Pupin closer. There is a rumor that follows the mature Mihajlo Pupin. There were stories that he was secretly in love with Mrs Helen Jenkins. What we know for sure, is the fact that this rich lady, philanthropist and patron, has fell in love with Serbian people, thanks to Mihajlo Pupin. She gave us a piece of her fortune, even one part of Manhattan. Hence,

nowadays we can say that this man with heart bigger than mind have had two love stories that stood the test of time. He has loved his wife from the bottom of his heart, and the biggest crisis in his life was her death. However, we also find out that two big properties in Norfolk have been connected with secret channels, by which the good rich widow Jenkins and Mihajlo Pupin have opened their hearts to each other. From the look to the stars that Pupin considered to be the spring of the supreme inspiration, all to the dining table, are written down love and enthusiasm. Worried Nikola Tesla wrote to the consul of Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in New York that Pupin is ill, and that he is not listening to him at all. He doesn’t want to leave the wine, nor the dried meat which he loves so much, but that are harmful to his health that has been damaged by work and years. To love life and to feel that it is only the path from physical to spiritual reality – that is Mihajlo Pupin. The shepherd from Idvor – that is also Mihajlo Pupin. A man who is considered to me the father of telecommunication and electronics – that is also Mihajlo Pupin. On a gathering in a big American scientific institution, in 1932 while he was getting John Fritz medal, he emphasized that mankind has not reached yet the biggest motional force in a spiritual world – the force of love. The resonance of heart and mind, their perfect harmony – this is probably what Mihajlo Pupin is all about.

MEDITATION

The Beauty from Within WORDS: PRATITI MEUNIER SOMATIC EXPERIENCING® PRACTITIONER REIKI & BACH FLOWERS PRACTITIONER MEDITATION TEACHER WORK WITH THE PATH OF LOVE, PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PROCESS WORLDWIDE PART OF THE SERBIAN AWAKENING OF LOVE TEAM PHOTOS: MARINA LUKIĆ

When I first heard of meditation and, as I was sitting in silence to stop the mind, I thought, ‘pffff…. No way… this is not for me… it’s impossible to stop my mind…’   This was my first thought, a deep belief about my incapacity to stop the tsunami of ideas and talks ‘upstairs’ and also, why not say it, a degree of doubt that this is possible…. More than 15 years later… here I am….writing about Meditation!   A part of my life story is to be a ‘good student’… Then, this good student inside started to read a bunch of articles related to meditation from all the possible fields.  From spiritual Masters to physical body effects; from mental and scientific research to skeptical opinions;    from the illusion and drug of escapists to the most clear reality of our own Being… After all the lectures and information (a whole universe!), there was, literally, a chaos in my mind, full of more questions, doubts, insecurities, realizations, insights. And when the moment of writing arrived…  there was a big BOH…. “What to say, how to say it? I will take this quote. No, that one’s better. I want to share this vision. Oh! This one too… But this is also interesting. How shall I put all this together, where shall I start…?’ I was listening to all those voices from within and I felt that it was a bit ‘crowded upstairs’, as you can imagine… It was like wanting to cross a highway during a rush hour in an unexpected rainy day…. IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND A WAY!!

ISSUE #23, JANUARY 2017.

61

Then, I stopped for a moment ... I went back to my tools and I dropped my ‘to do’ and ‘want to do’ list, and I jumped INSIDE…closed my eyes… breathing slowly, gently, deeply…going back to my belly… away from the traffic jam in my mind… feeling my body, feeling the sensation in my body, noticing my emotions… observing… not changing anything… just observing … and, slowly, the sky started clearing up again… my heart started beating slowly and I could feel a sensation of the expansion in my chest… a sense of calmness, openness, relaxation, clarity, trust, vision… and I noticed a soft smile on my face… this was Meditation… no words, no theories, no explanation… it is a Sense, an Experience, our Essence, our Silence, our Nature… But, what happens next?  Why is there all this noise inside?  If meditation is our Nature, why are we not there? And the answer is simple… WE FORGET…We get trapped in the rush of the modern world, in a crazy need to do, to produce, to improve more and more, keeping us busy, always wanting more and more…. we identify with the media, social circles or with what we do for a living. Our brain becomes our center, verbal understanding and intellectual theories are ways to communicate. Systematic methods are the way to strengthen it and more energy is reaching this endless talking center. Because this is the mind, this is its nature… a chronic commentator.   Our center is our mind… and we forgot that beyond our head there is a body, there are emotions, sensations, feelings, there is a heart beating and longing to be seen and listened to, and further down there is a belly, roots, a pulsating life, a passion to feel and fire to live…   That’s why, to me, Active Meditations or Meditations in Movement make so much sense. Because in order to silent my mind, first of all, I needed to re-connect with my body, move my body, release the tensions, the stress, give space to the talkative ‘upstairs’ and, in

a way, destroy the false center, start feeling again, feeling my emotions, my sensations, my fullness… With active meditation or cathartic meditation we push the center of consciousness from the brain, the ‘upstairs’, towards the Heart in the middle of the chest. We give space to the suppressed heart and, by doing so, we are give lightness and bring space to the wishes and longings that make our hearts beat stronger. And when this happens, we can jump even lower and bring our center of consciousness to the area of the navel, our Hara. There is the source of vitality, of energy, the roots. There is a place that we call Home, where our truth pulsates, our inner wisdom… we go back to the beginning of it all. And this center is where transformation can happen, because in this space we are already what we are looking for… we come back to the vast space where everything is possible, where silence is the container, and clarity and vision are the guides.   It is in this moment that we realize that meditation is a natural state of the Human Being, we don’t need to learn anything, we need to REMEMBER. And, the more we reach for the Source, the more we absorb this clarity, with this Inner Beauty, with this Inner Peace. We feel connected again with something bigger than us and we trust that everything is perfect just the way it is.   Qualities as Acceptance, Trust and Joy arise from within, not as a mental effort but as a natural flow coming from a deep understanding…. The Miracle of Being Human, including all our colors, shapes, moods, embracing the whole as human as we are… because, for me, there is nothing more beautiful and Sacred than this… Being a Human Being.

PHOTO STORY

BARBADOS

Nine years ago I got offer to work in Barbados, not even knowing where is that island I said YES. Than when I got home I asked on Google: “Where is Barbados?” Barbados is an island nation located in the Caribbean. We’re actually the easternmost island in the Caribbean and completely surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Barbados is 432 square km, 34 km long and 23 km wide. The country generally experiences two seasons: wet season and dry season, the average temperatures range from 21 C to 31C. Rihanna is one of Barbados’ best-known artists. Than I arrived in Barbados in 2007 and start my own experience. 1) One of the protected Chattel house . The houses were constructed to be transportable in the event of landlord and tenant disputes. The name chattel referred to the fact that they were movable property. 2) Crop Over Carnival  Crop Over (formerly called «Harvest Home») is a traditional harvest festival which began in Barbados, having had its early beginnings on the sugar cane plantations during the colonial period. THE WORLD IS WITHIN US WORDS: VANJA BOKUN POPOVIĆ, TRANSFORMATION CONSULTANT PHOTO: BRANISLAV TIŠMA We live in the era of smart technology. Our devices serve as the extenstion of our own information field, capturing our memories, thoughts, musings, and writings. Through our devices we connect to the world web, exchange ideas, connect with kindred spirits and disconnect from those that are not. We stand strong in the idea that the digital age has brought us unbelievable opportunities to freely create, that we sometimes forget to ask ourselves how much of our own power we disimissed in the process, trusting the delicate machine in our fingers over our inner might. George O’Donell is a researcher who teaches people how to develop inner skills of remote viewing through his academy called ARVARI. His programs are the result of longitudinal research of world’s leading secret services, which explored the idea that the human brain is of infinite powers. What they found is that, under certain conditions, our brains are capable of connecting to the invisible information field contained in the ether, known as The Universal Mind – thus being capable of downloading any information an individual seeks. A good number

of successful enterpreneurs are aware of this. They invest in trainings and practices, which enable them to consciously access that web in order to gain unique ideas for projects, predict the changes on the financial markets, and to play in that infinite timeless space. What these individuals have in common is unwavered trust in the impossible and Spartan dicipline in their practices. I have been actively pursuing my own research in the domain of infinite human potential, which is how I became O’Donell’s student myself. What I can say with certainty is this – the wave of the New World, which we are creating together is already on its way. All the smart technology in action leads the way to our own learning of the Technology of Self. It is on us to accept that we are much more powerful than we may assume. To illustrate this with an example I will share with you a lesson, which I recently learned from my smart phone. There were too many applications running, too many open windows, too many exchanged messages – the intelligent machine turned itself off self-willingly. To my surprise,

my body followed it, having had to process all As I type this, the battery on my phone reads the information, type all those messages, and 100%. I am aware that the day is young and that carry out all of my thoughts thoughts. I have just touched on its energetic capacities. As the hours and thoughs go by, I will stay aware The period of enthropy, of the total loss of energy of the number in the corner of my screen, as it – came next. will tell me a lot about my own energy levels What was mine to learn was that enthropy carries a mighty gift, if we fully allow it to express itself. I used to fight it by participating in social outings, forcing myself to workout, and to carry out the activities to overcome that unnatural, yet overwhelming fatigue. This time, I relaxed and slept, instead – for two days. I allowed myself to enjoy this rare luxury. Instead of intellectualizing the experience that I was going through, I simply let myself be. I allowed to be carried by sleep and heaviness of my tired body, knowing that the rare depths of my being were pulsating with new ideas, magnificent, yet still incomprehensible to my limited mind.

As above, so below. As within, so without. Just like our devices, we have our own RESTART buttons. If we want to realize our inner potentials, the time has come that we learn how to use the button. Maybe all those open applications and windows are not even necessary on our phones – the whole world is already within us.

When the conscious mind shut down, the superconscious went to work. E-MAGAZIN RYL - REFRESH YOUR LIFE

EMMA FICK WAS BORN IN LOUISIANA, SHE GRADUATED IN THE ENGLISH LITERATURE AND THE HISTORY OF ART. IN SERBIA, SHE ARRIVED AS THE FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR TO TEACH ENGLISH IN 2013 BUT SHE STARTED ILLUSTRATING SERBIA IN HER OWN WAY. SHE WAS TRAVELLING ACROSS SERBIA A LOT AND FOUND INTERESTING MOTIVES AND DETAILS. SHE REMINDED US OF OUR IDENTITY.    EMMA´S FASCINATING STORY,  SNIPPETS OF SERBIA,  PRESENTS AN IMPRESSIVE ILLUSTRATED BOOK BY THE SAME NAME. WITH CONTOURS, COLORS, A FEW LINES OF TEXT, SHE PRESENTS US THE WAY WE ARE, OUR TRADITIONS, DAILY LIFE ETC. HER FAMILY HISTORY IS CONNECTED TO SERBIA. DURING WORLD WAR II, HER GRANDMOTHER’S AUNT WAS MARRIED TO A SERB WHO MANAGED TO GET HER FAMILY OF JEWISH DESCENT OUT OF VIENNA, WHERE THEY LIVED, TO BELGRADE, AND THEN PAID FOR THEIR TRIP TO AMERICA, SAVING THEM FROM WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN THE EUROPE. SNIPPETS OF SERBIA  ACTUALLY REPRESENTS AN EXTRAORDINARY GUIDE TO THIS COUNTRY, ITS PEOPLE, CULTURE AND TRADITIONS – HERE YOU CAN FIND FINE DETAILS ABOUT VRANJE, THE PUBLIC TRANSPORT PORTRAITS, KNJAŽEVAC, NIŠ, STARA MORAVICA, KAČAMAK, KRAJPUTAŠI, LUNCH ON THE TARA MOUNTAIN, OBUĆAR, BABA DESANKA, BABA JOVANKA, MY FAVORITE - BABA BOSILJKA, AND MUCH MORE.   WITH THE GREAT SUPPORT  AND THE PROJECT  OF THE US EMBASSY, FICK  SPENT  FOUR MONTHS EXPLORING  SERBIA.  SHE VISITED  EIGHT CITIES  WHERE THE AMERICAN CORNER HAS ITS LIBRARIES (SUBOTICA, NOVI SAD, KRAGUJEVAC, NOVI SAD, BELGRADE, VRANJE, NIŠ AND BUJANOVAC). SHE RAN WORKSHOPS IN THE FIELD OF ILLUSTRATION ON THE TOPIC OF VISUAL IMPRESSIONS OF THE US CULTURE AND SERBIA. SHE HAS HAD TWO ILLUSTRATION EXHIBITIONS AND SHE HAS PUBLISHED A BOOK. SNIPPETS OF SERBIA IS AN ILLUSTRATED JOURNEY BY EMMA FICK.

WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL SERBIAN longer, it started becoming more and more TRUTH? apparent. The hospitality and daily joys are still there (Serbs know how to enjoy life!), My personal Serbian truth is constantly but it exists in tandem with these other, developing and morphing. Like any darker realities. (Luckily, Serbs are also truth, it’s never complete, and I’m always equipped with a dark humor that helps adjusting it as I get more information and them through). hear more stories and see more places. My other Serbian truth is related to the Right now, my Serbian truth is the 90s wars. The 20th century was not remarkable combination of generosity kind to Eastern Europe, and there’s a and scarcity. On the one hand, Serbian lot of residual pain and anger and guilt culture fosters generosity beyond associated with those wars. Again, I feel anything I’ve seen. People share their like most Serbs harbor two seemingly homes, stories, food, drink, resources, incompatible feelings: indignant, on the and time. On the other hand, there’s a one hand, for lives lost and the crimes great scarcity to Serbia: the economy Milosevic committed, and suppressed creates an atmosphere of desperation and guilt, on the other hand, for what happened fatigue, because people are grappling with in their name. Serbs are temperamental, short resources on a daily basis. Most of strong and sensitive, and that makes them the time at the beginning—especially for very difficult to understand! My Serbian me as a foreigner—this desperation and truth right now shows people who don’t fatigue was hidden, swept behind feasts want to apologize because, to do so, would and hospitality. But slowly, as I stayed here be admitting guilt for the actions of a man

they themselves were fighting. I think Serbs want to be recognized as innocent before they apologize for what happened in their name, but that’s not possible—it has to go the other way around (if history is any indication). Serbs also feel like they weren’t recognized for the terrible things that happened to them during the war, because history tends to paint “good guys” and “bad guys” with broad strokes. All this makes for a very complicated truth. WHAT DID YOU NOTICE AS THE MOST STRIKING, INTERESTING,    AMAZING, STRANGE OR FUNNY IN EVERYDAY SERBIAN LIFE?

hours a day on them. Now, I’m taking a break from Snippets in that particular form, and doing more observational illustrations (with less didactic, explanatory text) in a smaller format. But, like everything, it’s cyclical—once I have enough time off from the Snippets, I’ll be excited to get back to drawing them, which I’ll do in October this year in New Orleans. WHAT IS THE PERSONAL IDENTITY OF THE NATIONS WHERE YOU SPENT SOME TIME AND SHOWED US THE MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF? (SERBIA, BOSNIA, MACEDONIA, MONTENEGRO, CROATIA, BUDAPEST, VIENNA, KRAKOW, TURKEY)

Most things I react to you can see in the illustrations. I can’t explain what or why certain things are funny; they just are. I’m most drawn to extremes, of course, the extremely  traditional grandmother with headscarf and wool socks, or the extremely stereotypical young woman with sky-high heels and lots of sparkly clothing. I also like details that represent some larger phenomenon: for example, I’ve done illustrations about the cigarette burns in all the ‘kafana’ tablecloths and the signs that proudly proclaim “smoking allowed” instead of “no smoking,” both to speak to the prevalence of smoking in Serbian culture.

This question is much too loaded and complex to answer in a few sentences! If I could  answer it, even. I don’t think my understanding is complete enough to summarize the main characteristics of so many nations. HOW DO YOU RECOGNIZE YOUR OWN IDENTITY LIVING AT SO MANY DIFFERENT PLACES?

Well, I have only lived for an extended period of time in Serbia. The other places I was just traveling through, so my understanding of their cultures is much more surface-level. My identity is the same everywhere I go, though. It’s like that quote, “no matter HOW DO YOU NOTICE DETAILS FOR where you go, there you are.” I always DRAWING SNIPPETS? feel like an observer, someone slightly on the outside peering in. I felt like this my Observation is a way of life. I’ve noticed whole life, though. Even living at “home” details my whole life; it’s just that now I have in Louisiana, I never felt so much part  of something to do with those observations. the culture as a separate observer of it. My Before I was putting them into illustrations, identity is always primarily artist-observer, they just flew from my mind after a while secondarily participant. and disappeared. But now they have a home and a way to become more permanent.   WHAT ARE THE SNIPPETS FOR YOU IN THE ARTISTIC WAY AND IN YOUR LIFE? It depends. When I was in the middle of the project, they  were  my life. They were my way of expression. I was working 7-8

D WITH SAND

PIRIT OF THE DESERT SANITA LISICA, A DIPLOMAT AT THE EMBASSY OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA IN QATAR, BACHELOR OF ORIENTAL STUDIES BY PROFESSION, TURKOLOGIST AND ARABIST AND MA IN ARABIC LANGUAGE. EX REPORTER AT BHTV IN SARAJEVO. INSPIRED BY THE DESERT AND ORIENT, SHE DRAWS DESERT MOTIVES ON CANVASES WITH SAND. SHE EXHIBITED HER WORKS IN BIH, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, QATAR, MANY INDEPENDENT EXHIBITS BREATH OF THE DESERT, WHISPER OF THE SAND IN THE VEIL OF SECRET, THE SCENT OF LEVANT... SAND AS A TOOL FOR PAINTING. WHERE DID THE LOVE FOR THE SAND PAINTING TECHNIQUE COME FROM? My love for sand painting was born during the Oriental studies in Sarajevo. Namely, old Arabic poetry or Muallaqe (the most beautiful seven songs chosen at competitions in preIslamic Arabia, embroidered with golden harfs and placed on the walls of Kaaba) woke up the love for the desert in me. PreIslamic poets Imru’ al-Qais, Antarah ibn Shaddad, Tarafa and others used exceptional language style to describe the desert, all its beauties, but also the roughness of life in that environment; they described everything that surrounded them and suppressed them, everything they loved, but also the ones who loved them - battles, camels, horses, habitats, camps, etc. All that somehow instilled in me, so I fell in love with the desert and sand and wind which plays with sand grains and carries them from one sand dune to another, and all that through the beauties of Arabic language in which the desert and everything in it was described. I fell in love with the desert before I saw it.

After my first visits to Arab countries as a student, and later as a reporter (Egypt, Libya, Palestine), I started collecting sand and painting what remained in my memory when I came home (a morning in Tripoli, ruins in Gaza, cemetery in Jenin, Palestine, a lemon tree in the backyard of a demolished home in Rafah, a nomadic habitat in the middle of sand vastness, the thirst of the desert for water). ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE WHITE CANVAS/ PAPER AND WHEN DO YOU KNOW THAT THE LAST GRAIN OF SAND IS THE ONE WITH WHICH YOU ARE FINISHING YOUR PAINTING? I am not afraid. On the contrary. Actually, every painting is an adventure for me. There are always new ideas born while I work on one painting. I have painted with sand for almost 15 years and I invested a lot of effort to find an appropriate technique with which I will keep the sand on the canvas and keep its original color. It is a very demanding technique. Sometimes I work on a painting for several months because of the layers I want to accomplish and keep on the painting. Actually, Mohamed Orabi, an Egyptian artist and professor at the Academy of Luxor, saw my paintings for the first time during his visit to Sarajevo, and he encouraged me to exhibit my works and to continue working because of my unique style and technique. How do I know when is the last grain of sand with which I finish the painting? Well, the artist simply feels it. WHAT IS YOUR MAIN INSPIRATION WHICH DRIVES YOU TO PAINT WITH SAND?

E-MAGAZIN RYL - REFRESH YOUR LIFE

84

As I was saying, the old Arab poetry inspired me at first, and now every painting is a story told by the sand and its origins. The painting The City of Secrets, painted with sand from Yemen, tells the story about queen Belkis who ruled Yemen a long time ago, the painting Al Dir’iyya tells the origins story of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the painting The Whiff of History speaks about an old town at the north of Qatar covered by the sands of time which had very active trading and marine significance, the painting Fight tells a story about the life of Palestinians and their constant struggle for survival and there is a rock from a demolished house in Gaza in the middle of the painting. I feel peace when I look at my paintings and that is the reason why I did not want to sell some of them. They are simply a part of me. How much opportunity are you given by the Near East to be in constant contact with the sand/source? I often make jokes about coming from the tribe Benu Thaaleba (tribe of foxes) which really existed in Arabia. I have to test my

DNA, there must be some Arab genes. So, I have always been in contact with the desert (laughs). Although I was born far from every desert, by the wally of the river Lim at the south-east of Serbia, I have always had my dream which I live right now. I have always liked something different which was far away and, at the time, not approachable. But when we want something in our hearts, then we live as lead by angels. Now, almost 7 years of life at the Arab Gulf gave me the sand at a silver platter. I like to go to the desert, firstly I experience it, smell it, feel it, then I remember the old Arab poetry. Every grain has its own story, told and passed on for thousands of years, and then the inspiration rushes and I give myself to the canvas. Desert sand is special, different, colorful, suitable for work. I became an expert is types and colors of sand from country to country. From the white and small one at the coast of the Mediterranean to the red and small Libyan, dark gray rocky sand of Mecca and its surroundings, yellowish and brownish sand in Emirates or dark beige sand in Qatar. Were the paintings you painted them in

Sarajevo different from the ones from the Arab Gulf? Yes, they are different. The motifs and the experience are different. As I said, after you experience the desert, the inspiration flows to you by itself. I like to visit villages in Qatar and the Gulf in general, talk with the local people who do not speak English and then I hear beautiful stories about their lives and customs, enjoy their traditional socializing and long sitting, arab coffee, date palms, and all this gives me a new dimension of inspiration which I transfer to the canvas.

when you get out from a shell and cliche of serious diplomacy and you represent yourself and your country in a different way. The reactions are very positive. Due to the uniqueness of my works, it was a special honor for me to exhibit them at the Emirates Palace, the so called Golden Palace in Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of the Ministry of High Education of UAE at the time, and all my other exhibits were under the patronage of ministers or municipalities. Once, on a call from the municipality West Region in UAE, I exhibited my works at a camel festival held in the middle of the desert, which was a very specific experience.Â

You are a deputy ambassador for BiH in Qatar and you have contact with diplomats. What is their reaction to your art, considering that you also had independant exhibits? Diplomacy and art somehow go together. In the core of both are representation, passing a message, it is a nice connection. The synthesis of the diplomacy and art, as the Minister of Culture of Qatar said at the opening of my last exhibit in Doha, in December 2014. In fact, it is commendable E-MAGAZIN RYL - REFRESH YOUR LIFE

ANGEL COACHING

TEXT: ANIMA MUNDI PHOTOGRAPHY: PRIVATE ARCHIVE Mrs Aleksandra Ubović, the French language teacher, the life coach, the trainer of the program by the methods of Louise Hay, the author of the book “Become and stay slim forever”, the angel therapy practitioner, is helping people on their path of personal development. By following her inner voice and the voice of the angels, she has got enough courage to take classes at the best, the worldwide famous angel teacher Doreen Virtue. HOW DID YOU HEAR YOUR ANGEL AND WENT TO USA TO ATTEND DOREEN VIRTUE WORKSHOP? My guardian angels have spoken to me eight years ago for the first time, and except of hearing and seeing them, they wrote me down a clear message on a white board that was in front of me. On the board it was written: YOUR PURPOSE: Angel coaching By that time nothing anymore was clear, and a fear in me was stronger than happiness, which is usual, because in is in our nature that we consider everything that we cannot explain as a potential danger. My angels have introduced themselves, said their names to me (the ones that I have never heard in my life before, so by searching Google I have find out who they were).

From that very moment I have started to open myself for that kind of concept, and started to attend the workshops about a communication with the Angels. Firstly, I was at lovely Divna Savić workshop, the author of one great book Angels in a heart, furthermore at a workshop of my dear colleague Snježana Sredojević, whose book Angels for beginners was a course book to me after the first experience, and last but not least, at a workshop of divine Margarita Milenković, who truly has been given and still is giving a significant contribution on my development path and opening to the energy of Angels. I have heard about the seminar/training of Doreen Virtue during the spring time, but in those days everything has seemed far away and impossible. Firstly go to Hawaii, and then to provide funds for the whole venture. However, when some story is supported, all the doors will open very fast and easily, and the only we need to do is go with the flow. And I have done that. WHAT EXPERIENCES ARE YOU BRINGING? HOW DOREEN’S WORKSHOPS LOOK LIKE? Above all, her seminar is one very well organized manifestation. I have to admit that I was very proud of mine and a work of my husband Sinisa Ubović, because

seminars that we organize can be compared to the international ones! We have been studying, practicing, listening work with the energies of angels and we have exchanged previous, and experiences from the seminar, from 9am to 6pm, for whole three days. DV is absolutely gorgeous, and I was particularly fascinated with the fact that she is one stable and relaxed woman, who does not make a big deal of everything she is doing, but with lots of humor and great energy gives you all the knowledge she has!

small signs which confirm their presence. Sometimes it is the white feather that comes out of nowhere, sometimes a coin, and sometimes numbers in a row, like 444 or 111. They are just some of the examples, and there are myriad of them. In the end of this interview I will specify one! My personal Angel and my protector is Archangel Michael.

HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH AN ANGEL? In my opinion, the easiest way is through meditation, than through angel cards and books. Often I use a book 101 Angel number by DV, in which there are all the numbers HOW DOES ANGEL THERAPY LOOK LIKE? from 1 to 999. I ask the question, imagine a The Angel therapy looks exactly like the number, and get the answer. Due to a fact coaching sÊance, but we just ask an Angel that there is always the law of attraction for a help. Sometimes we need this help to present, the answer is right in 100%. get an answer, sometimes as strength to get over some things, and sometimes as SAY YES TO LIFE! wind in back for some new projects. Angels The Angels have been with the editor of are always here to support and help us, we RYL magazine while she was writing the only need to ask for their help. questions for this interview, and this can be confirmed with the fact that she ended the HOW MANY ANGELS ARE THERE AND interview with the sentence which I used WHICH ONE IS THE BEST ANGEL? to answer to the invitation of Margarita There is the infinite number of Angels Milenković to be her guest at a lecture and in this world, and with Archangels they present my work with Angels. Wellness Tourism is a New Popular Trend Wellness is a major new trend in tourism with impressive growth rate all over the world, taking up a sizeable chunk 14 % of all domestic and international tourism market (more than 439$ billion). Its estimated growth is 50% higher than global tourism! Wellness is taking over! Wellbeing is becoming an essential part of everybody’s lifestyle and most people understand that to sustain longevity and happiness it is essential to dedicate some time to health, sport and wellness activities. “So many 21st century forces are fueling it, including the rise of chronic diseases and the unprecedented stress of modern life.” said Jean-Claude Baumgarten, former World Travel & Tourism Council president at the first Global Wellness Tourism Congress held in India in 2013. G N I L I E V N U S S E N L L WE M S I R U TO I L A B N O While spas were once the epicenter of wellness tourism, the industry has exploded to include all kinds of holistic programs including cruises, hiking trips, weight loss clinics, addiction treatment retreats, art retreats, health tourism and yoga retreats. Retreats are popular form of wellness tourism, usually lasting for a week or so and targeted for smaller groups up to 20 people. Retreat packages include accommodation; group trainings in holistic practices and healthy food. And retreats are equal to fun, sharing and personal transformation. Depending on the group and the budget, pricing for one person varies from 1500 – 4500 US $. Retreat is a holistic way to reconnect with the inner self. Those vacations give us opportunity to travel to recharge, unplug from technology, and everyday routine - tap into the source and get a much clearer reception of our inner voice. They offer intensive learning from the experts in the field of selfdevelopment and long lasting results. Why Bali? Bali is a popular wellness destination because of its tropical beauty, welcoming kindness of Balinese people and culture and 70000 rooms available all year long.

In addition to being called the spiritual belly button of the world, or Island of Gods, Bali is actively developing its brand as the place for healing and transformation by hosting an annual festival called Bali Spirit Fest that gathers facilitators in personal transformation trough dance, singing, yoga, and musicians from all over the world that specialize in popular devotional music. What is your perfect spot for holiday? In a luscious rainforest or surrounded by the rice fields with sounds of trickling water from rice fields? Or do you long for the sound of ocean waves and inviting turquois blue water? Bali boasts a unique geography and myriad of resorts, and villas at the most amazing locations, so the choice is abundant. Ubud is known as the artistic hub for retreats in Bali. The lush tropical forests and rice-fields and preserved way of Balinese traditional life are some of the reasons why clients want to retreat there. Sanur is known for its peaceful village atmosphere and kilometers or paved walks by the sea. Seminyak’s windy coastlines and vibrant nightlife are great for surfing retreats. The Candidasa off east coast of Bali is a wonderful location for swimming, snorkeling and relaxing. The north coast of Bali besides peace and isolation offers views of dolphins,

diving and snorkeling galore. The islands off Bali such as Nusa Penida, Lombok etc are getting increasingly popular destinations for retreats, because of their pristine nature but not for long since the development is headed that way as well.

2. Feeling like your soul could use pampering? Spa retreats will do just that

5 popular types of retreats available on Bali:

Several resorts and hotels are specialized in offering those types of retreats. Although spa retreats are aimed for couples, single travellers are increasingly signing up for some “me time”. This segment of the market is yet to be developed.

1. Do you need to establish an exercise routine? Active Retreats are your cup of tea One of the most familiar types of retreats is created around intensive yoga practice. Those are intended for the mid level to advanced yoga practitioners.

A typical spa retreat includes accommodation, meals and body treatments, and frequently daily yoga and meditation. Often, the retreat will be combined with a raw food/detox program, so be ready to leave your French fries cravings back at home.

Yoga and Surf Retreats are a great choice if you are looking to reconnect with nature and explore the dynamic of surfing life. The retreats include 7 nights accommodation, meals, surf lessons, yoga and meditation activities.

Spa retreats are custom made, so a nutritionist and a so-called “retreat mother” will be assigned to you to make your program fit your needs and wants. An excellent feature about those retreats is that they respect client’s physical condition, mood, level of tiredness etc. So if you feel like just sleeping in that day, it is perfectly reasonable to cancel the program for the day. No pressure.

They are located in Nusa Lembongan, Canngu area or Seminyak. Surf Goddess Retreat and Mind Body Soul Surf Bali are organizations that offer surf retreats for women only. There are also pilates retreats, pole-dancing retreats for those that want to focus exclusively on body toning and detoxing trough exercise.

One of the best places to have a spa retreat is Aroma Spa Retreat at Sanur Beach Hotel and Fivelements Puri Ahimsa in Mambal. Another place is Como Shambala Estate in Ubud that offers a spa retreats focusing on Ayurvedic treatments. For those looking for a

good service but smaller budget is Ubudsari. 3. Do you like to sing or dance, but don’t have time for it? Art retreats are uniquely designed to facilitate meditation trough your favorite activity There is an entire movement in healing arts that focuses on singing, dancing and painting. By engaging in those ancient forms of social activity, in a free form, we engage in power of now, cleanse our physical and emotional bodies and deeply connect with others trough sharing our unique ways of expression. Usually prominent musicians and facilitators are hired to assist during the program. Singabout is one of the organizations that offers art retreats on Bali, and SpiritDance SoulSong are veterans in facilitating selfexpression trough dancing and singing all around the globe including Bali. 4. Theme retreats – they focus around different self-improvement techniques, with a common goal is to help you empower yourself, to learn new techniques that will help you lead a more fulfilling life. Just to name some of them: Neurolinguistic programing, Mindfulness, Health and Prosperity retreats, Raw Food retreats, Detox retreats. E-MAGAZIN RYL - REFRESH YOUR LIFE

5RHYTHMS

‘5Rhythms is a dynamic movement practice, a practice of being in your body; it ignites creativity, connection, and community. Together, they guide us and reweave the web of divine intelligence that defines us.’ Gabrielle Roth

5Rhythms is a movement meditation practice devised by Gabrielle Roth in the late 1970s.It draws from indigenous and world traditions using tenets of shamanistic, ecstatic, mystical and eastern philosophies. It also draws from Gestalt therapy, the human potential movement and transpersonal psychology. Fundamental to the practice is the idea that everything is energy and moves in waves, patterns and rhythms. According to Gabrielle Roth, the practice of five rhythms put the body in motion in order to still the mind. The five rhythms (in order) are the following: staccato, chaos, lyrical, flowing and stillness. The five rhythms, when danced in sequence, are known as a ‘Wave’. Thierry François learnt this dance from Gabrielle Roth.

Thierry François was born in Paris. He grew up in the west of France, in a beautiful landscape, nature, countryside, coast and forest. Thierry François is an actor and a Gestalt therapist. He has been practicing dance in France and all around Europe since 2002, so he has gradually followed the path of Teacher Training. He has been trained as a 5R teacher in the USA by Gabrielle Roth. He is an energetic and enthusiastic teacher who shares his passion for lightness, humour and creativity. He has been living in Zagreb for 4 years with his wife, also a 5R teacher, Silvija Tomčik, and their baby boy.

WHAT ARE THE 5RHYTHMS OF DANCE? HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THIS KIND OF MEDITATION TO SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT? I would say that some people discover this practice as a fitness practice, for others, it’s on a deeper level. Anyway, it is a dynamic movement practice that allows people to connect with themselves first and then the environment. WHEN DID YOU START PRACTISING AND LEADING 5RHYTHMS WORKSHOPS ALL OVER THE WORLD? WHO WAS YOUR TEACHER AND INSPIRATION IN THIS MAGICAL FIELD OF DANCE? I came across 5Rhythms in 2002. After that, I continued dancing regularly and I decided to take the teaching path in 2008. I was very fortunate to be in workshops with Gabrielle Roth and to be trained by her. She is still my inspiration and, besides this, I like to believe the ‘one around the corner’, the not known, not famous is also an inspiration. I feel inspired by people in the streets, on a plane, on a train, everywhere where there is movement. ACCORDING TO YOUR EXPERIENCE, WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE WORKSHOPS? This is a tough question, as I feel it might be easy to establish prejudice. I work a lot with men with a different movement which is not Dance but still

is a movement. One common point is that men and women are seekers; they seek freedom, empty space, autonomy, change, challenge, the unpredictable and, mostly, good communication in their relationship. Honestly, I can’t see clear differences. In my workshops, I feel the struggle in men and women alike, and in my opinion, Struggle has no gender. EVERYTHING HAS ITS OWN RHYTHM, ORDER AND EVERYTHING IS IN FLUCTUATION, WHICH TENDS TO CHANGE. ARE THE 5RHYTHMS POWERFUL TOOLS TO CHANGE YOURSELF? I deeply believe in that. It’s a practice, and like a lot of practices, when there is regularity, discipline, there is change, it’s as simple as that. Each time I open a window in a dance floor, it affects my own life in many ways. THE RHYTHM OF EACH PERSON IS LIKE HIS/HER SIGNATURE. WHAT SHOULD WE DO IF WE NOTICE THAT WE PREFER ONE RHYTHM TO ANOTHER? A suggestion is to live this Rhythm by exploring facets, all aspects of it: enjoying, letting yourself be fascinated, curious and generous, because one day or another, it will change and switch to another one, and maybe after a few years it will come back to the previous one. It’s a life cycle. HOW DID 5RHYTHMS INFLUENCE YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE? Life is a continuum of movement, from the moment I get up to the moment I go back to sleep; I embrace, I welcome, I give space. Walking with my son in busy streets obliges me to be grounded, to be aware of my environment. Living in a foreign country obliges me to be clear in the way I communicate, let go of the

103

head, let go of the chatting mind, explore my creativity, my playfulness and just come back to a still place, to a relaxed and soft position, and, again, like a storm after stillness, flow takes over and so on. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE SERBIAN ORGANIZATION OF 5RHYTHMS? DO YOU LIKE TO RUN WORKSHOPS IN BELGRADE? It has been 4 or 5 years since I came to Belgrade to teach, and I really like Ples ritmova Serbia. I feel we are in a professional place but we are also friends. Gratitude and Thanks to Sandra Dimitrijević and her team. WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT THE FUTURE OF  5RHYTHMS METHOD? It’s always uneasy for me to project myself into the future, but from my perspective, I’d like to think that my great great grandson or granddaughter’s son will be a 5R Teacher to expand and spread out into the world, it’s simply necessary, it’s a practice that raises consciousness. IF I ASK YOU WHO THIERRY IS, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY? I am a man amongst men, amongst human beings, I feel solid, openedhearted, responsible, conscious, sometimes funny, other times depressed by the world around me; strong and vulnerable, a loving father and husband, loyal, with a strong lyrical way of life. From this view, I feel the chaos on my side, never far away. And the stillness is on the other side, which is a goal - calming down, slowing down, being wiser.

GLITTERING EYES

W

hen I looked up the word ‘abundance’ in my dictionary, the meaning I came up with was ‘a lot of things, a large amount of something’. I can’t help but wonder who determines how much is “a lot” – from whose perspective and how much exactly implies this ‘large amount of something’. With this particular word on my mind, I look at my children, filled with joy and love for everything around them to such an extent that I can feel it each and every day. And if you were to ask me whether this implies an abundance of love, I would have to admit that it’s bigger than that, as the term ‘abundance’, from my point of view, appears to be somewhat limited as it sounds, whereas I have a feeling that there is something beyond the abundance, limitless and beautiful, such as love and tenderness radiating from the sparkling eyes of a baby looking at his/her mother ... I cannot help but wonder where the light from the eyes of those that we consider to be grown-ups actually is ... What is the kind of abundance they are striving to achieve that makes that sparkle vanish? My mind is bursting with Einstein’s words: “There is no darkness ... Darkness is simply what we call a lack of light”. We have learned from many of the great minds that the eyes are the mirror of the soul, and so, walking around the city, every single day, I’m trying to get an insight into the souls of familiar and less familiar faces. I’ve been taught that eyes can be beautiful and less beautiful, and that it mainly depends on the color ... when we were kids, some of us were going crazy for blue eyes, others for green, while we, the “blue-green” crew, have never been able to see eye to eye with those who loved hazel or brown eyes. It is also said that the beauty of an image is always in the eyes of the beholder. As a matter of fact, today, in a cafe, I happened to overhear the conversation:

“Oh, have you seen how beautiful his/her blue / green / hazel eyes are?”... And I must say, I do hear that, but I no longer get it ... somehow, I do not fall for the eye color any longer, somehow I began to notice something else, and it is their glitter or more often, the lack thereof ... When it comes to my career background, I’m a Sales Professional, this is what I do, and the basic rule governing sales stipulates: the lower the quantity and the higher the demand, the higher the price. On the other hand, the wise, my dearest companions in reading, would say that anything with a price tag on is not to be considered valuable, and that the most valuable things are the ones whose value cannot be determined price-wise. If you were to ask me to name the most valuable things that you cannot put a price tag on, I would reply: the time, the life energy and the sparkle in the eyes. Who are the people with glittering eyes, do they really exist and how did they, as Despot Stefan Lazarevic described, “teach the darkness to shine”? Yes, they do exist... in fact, I actually happen to know a few of them personally... And they are not the richest ... And they are not the most successful in the work they do. And yes, they are different, and they remind me of a dandelion! I do not know if you know, but I think it’s definitely good to know that the reason why dandelions can grow at any unexpected place is that the wind carries their seeds, which, after the fall, manage to find their way to the soil, and they know how to wait, sometimes even for decades, to develop ... Scientists have also found out that waiting for the time of germination is not a “virtue” of the seed, because the seed is ready to grow right away, but that it is the nature that regulates these things in a different way ... no plant is capable of making decisions, as a man can decide to grow up to a half of the whole and stop. No, the plant always grows to reach its maximum potential.

109

And it is not up to the dandelion seed, but up to its environment ... the dandelion seed is patient, and eternal, and it is waiting for the right moment to develop, in all its magnificence, the moment the soil is ready for its excellence and eternity. The same goes with a twinkle in the eyes. That sparkle was there when we were born. If you do not believe me, look into any baby and see the eternity I’m talking about ... you’ll see the beautiful eyes that are glittering and they are glittering because they are the mirror of the soul, the soul that believes it has come to this world and chosen just the right family and the birth parents and the right location to grow until reaching its full potential. And, like a dandelion, s/he will be beautiful and shiny. And so, s/ he will face the winds of growing up, s/he will learn from the environment that apart from the NOW s/he believes in, there is yesterday and there is tomorrow, as well as the past and the future, and that the peace of mind and trust s/he enjoys while growing up, will be shattered by injustice, and fear, and, suspicion. And just like our dandelion, s/he faces the wind between the age of seven and ten blowing away that glow from the eyes, and it is dispersed within ourselves, where it is waiting and waiting, patiently hoping to come to the surface once again and surprise the world with its beauty. A dandelion grows within us only through that glow in their eyes ... and yes, it is perfect and irresistible! And it can also be green, or blue, or maroon or brown! And once again, I’m telling you – today, I no longer differentiate eyes by color, but only by the glow in them.

dandelion seeds inside their eyes, and believe me - it is priceless indeed. These are the very people who would act as a beacon shining in the darkness, filling every dark room they enter with light, and those are the very eyes that would glow just like a guiding starlight, acting as though they would have taught the darkness how to shine. And I have a question for them How ??? They say that it appears to be quite simple, that it was inside them even when they were in the womb, that they believed that the seed was likely to reemerge and shine, and that the calmness and silence of the mind were the fertile soil embracing it, and that the unconditional love of one’s self is the water used for watering these seeds. The sun that helps the seed to re-emerge, keeping it infinitely warm even now, is, in fact, their decision to swim in the abundant ocean of life energy and that ocean is always there, within us and with us, at present, occupying this very moment, and this moment only, and is always somewhere in-between, neither in the past nor in the future. They tend to perceive it as abundance. Those with the seeds still asleep within, waiting out there, are looking for the abundance somewhere out there, somewhere in the tomorrow, failing to see, as our common saying goes, “the forest from the trees”, that it is right where they usually won’t even look - inside themselves - right there where the soil is fertile enough for the dandelion inside them, which should grow through the glow in their eyes, because they are the mirror of the soul, aren’t they?

And I have found these people, and I’m looking at that very

FACE YOUR SPACE, MEET YOUR CHALLENGE When you look at your workplace, or at your home, and think of what and how you want to accomplish there, you have to ask yourself “does this space do that?” If your place increases productivity, lifts morale, reinforces identity, facilitates proper interactions, boosts creativity, lifts the energy, and, above all, makes people smile, then it probably is designed in accordance with teachings of Feng Shui. It should be so, because Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese science and art that can help you find the best, most harmonious, most supporting design for your space. Its aim is to find out how the space you are living and working in can provide you with maximum support across all (or at least most) areas of your life.

WORDS: DR ANNA MARKOVIĆ PLESTOVIĆ

On the other hand, if you look at your space, ask yourself the question “does this space do that?” and the answer is “no, it does not do that” or “it does that in some aspects, but...” then there is at least one area of your life in which you are facing obstacles and holdbacks, regardless of the efforts you are putting in to make things happen, to accomplish your goals. As a rule, we tend to materialize in our space the obstacles we face in our life, and it is by recognizing and dissolving or redefining these spatial obstacles that Feng Shui can “heal” the problems in life through changing interior arrangements. Feng Shui is a complex science and an art, which requires quite a lot of knowledge and experience to properly diagnose a place and to devise efficient solutions. Feng Shui does that by reading patterns manifested in spatial and material forms, assessing the information about qualities and meanings retrieved from

ISSUE #23, JANUARY 2017.

position and orientation of your place, from its external shape and internal structure, as well as from arrangement of furniture, color schemes and other characteristics. It also reads the pattern of your personal energy and the patterns of time materialized in your space. In the end it puts layer after layer of patterns atop each other and finds the intersecting points of harmony and disharmony, points to be healed and points to be enhanced. That is why I usually advise against the popular do-it-yourselves onesize-fits-all Feng Shui, since it is highly unlikely to have any true effect.

Still, you can use some Feng Shui to change your life, but be prepared to forget all about the popular “do”-s and “do not”-s listed in magazines, and everything you ever heard about three-legged toads, wind chimes, mirrors and other “feng shui cures”. Better give up running around vacuuming, scrubbing and dusting in order to “enhance your Feng Shui”. Instead, if you really want to find out what holds you back, find out which part of your place you avoid to see, avoid to think about. Be prepared to face your life`s challenges in your space.

Take the floor plan of your space (or make a sketch if you do not have one), and try to remember when did you made the last major alteration in each part of the space. Besides changing floors, furniture or overall color scheme which can be counted as major alterations, you can also take into account rearranging existing furniture. Think about every part of the space, not just the rooms. When did you change something in your hallway or in your pantry? Is there a room that you do not use? When did you thoroughly sort through which closet? If you have storage places for rarely used items, when did you last check whether you use all of those? Write it down on the sketch or plan, like “3 years ago” or “last Tuesday”. Go into as much details as you can. When you feel you cannot possibly remember any more dates and changes, locate the place that has not been disturbed for the longest time. That is probably the spatial expression of the obstacles you are facing in your life.

You can go into self-reflection, trying to establish what is it that is keeping you from changing that spot, what type of values and meanings are you preserving by keeping the spatial status quo of another times, or, you can simply and swiftly introduce some radical changes in the area, and see what happens. By making radical changes to that specific spot, you enable energy to circulate freely, dissolving old forms that have become obstacles, and defining new, more supporting forms for your present life, the actual state of affairs. To double-check if you have properly located the spot that is troubling you the most, you should decide at which direction it is located within your space (measured from the center), and see whether the obstacles you face really can be assigned to the aspects of life linked to the given direction:

GRATITUDE Gratitude is an emotion expressing appreciation for what we have rather than focusing on what we don’t have. It’s a beautiful emotion that not only has amazing health benefits, but reaches out and touches other lives too. It has been said that we should start each morning writing down five things we are grateful for, however small they might seem. Like watering a seed to break out of it›s shell to find the sun, in the state of thankfulness, we find ourselves breaking out of stress and depression and finding contentment and happiness.   Gratitude makes us feel good about ourselves and others. Which in turn, makes our memories happier. We become more sociable, friendly, understanding and compassionate; Simply because gratitude takes us outside of ourselves to recognize and acknowledge the source of goodness that makes us thankful.

WORDS: JEDDA CHALLENGER

It›s showing our appreciation for what we might have once taken for granted, while reminding ourselves we have much to be thankful for, and suddenly we realize we are not on our own, we never have been on our own. We reached this point from sharing a collection of experiences and kindnesses with others.   Just the simple act of saying ‹thank you› is a beautiful expression of gratitude. It can fill us with optimism for a brighter future.    ‹The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude.› Friedrich Wilhelm Neitzsche.

MAKING MUSIC AS ENERGY HEALING WORDS: BRANA MIJATOVIĆ, PH.D. IS AN ENERGY HEALER WHO COMBINES SCHOLARLY RESEARCH WITH PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS TO HELP HER CLIENTS OVERCOME OBSTACLES AND ACHIEVE A GREATER SENSE OF WELLBEING AND HAPPINESS

What is energy healing? There is a very simple answer to this question -- energy healing brings into balance our body, mind and soul. Traditional cultures and societies from around the world have been using many forms of energy healing for centuries, many of which are now becoming acknowledged by the scientific community. In his book Energy Medicine: The Scientific Basis, James Oschman, Ph.D. states “More evidence and confirmation is coming from the scientific world on the validity of the ancient healing practices that approached healing from addressing the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical aspects of our being” (2015). Medical doctors of world renown are opening up to the possibility that some of these practices are helping their patients and have themselves begun researching and integrating them into their work. Energy healing can be practiced by ourselves or by a trained professional and can engage one or more of our senses. It can work with the conscious and the subconscious mind and focus on sound, color, touch, movement, breathing, laughter, visualization, electromagnetic waves, scalar waves, and more. While I currently work with several distinct healing modalities unrelated to music, as a musician and a musicologist I was always interested in discovering how is it that music can help people relax, change their mood, influence their thinking. I was also always

drawn to the music traditions of far-away cultures. So I created a course Music and Healing in World Traditions, that I taught at the William and Mary College in 2015. In the process of creating this course it became apparent that even with the whole semester at our disposal we would just be scratching the surface in terms of learning what music actually does for us. While many ancient texts have discussed music’s ability to heal body, mind, and soul and while many traditional cultures used music in this way, Western civilization has been largely dismissing this as simply a metaphorical expression. Only recently has Western science been able to measure and verify the importance of music in enhancing our biological, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing. In this course we looked at music used in healing practices from around the world from perspectives of neuroscience, linguistics, physics, philosophy, psychology, ethnomusicology, music therapy and other disciplines, in order to understand how each component of what is understood as music has a crucial role in supporting and maintaining health of human beings throughout the world. Our virtual travelling around the world led us to almost every continent where traditional cultures used music for healing purposes. We also looked at traditional music used in unusual

settings, such as Indonesian Gamelan music used in prisons in the U.K. to improve socialization of convicted criminals and how a renowned  New York oncologist used Tibetan bowls with  his cancer patients. We have seen how singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument and listening to certain kinds of music can support cognitive processes and spiritual growth, how it influences biological rhythms,  helps with pain-management,  and increases emotional stability. Additionally, recent discoveries in neuroscience have shown that specific music genres were particularly helpful for specific illnesses. For instance, music with a very pronounced rhythm is helpful for patients with Parkinson’s disease. As neuroscientists discovered, rhythm in music has a profound influence on cognition, affective, and motor functions. It can form and shape memory -- it is well known that metrical organization makes it easier to remember verbal material and anything set to music is easier to recall. What is great about music is that while we may certainly benefit from those with professional knowledge, we can all also intuitively use music by ourselves in many beneficial ways. From singing, drumming, dancing, to playing a music instrument -- when done with intention, all these practices have multiple benefits for

our wellbeing. Even for those who feel they have no “voice” or are “tone-deaf”, singing “in the shower” may be a great way for energizing or relaxing, according to the need of the moment. It is also never too late to start learning to play an instrument you always wanted to play. Researchers have found that learning to play music enhances the functioning of the part of the brain associated with language processing. Additionally, it increases memory, sharpens concentration, and boosts selfesteem. Musical training helps young children become achievers who understand the value of sustained effort and overcoming obstacles, and thus prepares them for success. All of these changes have been observed in numerous studies published in the last twenty years. Today when we are surrounded with music we like and music we don’t like from speakers and sound systems everywhere we go, making music ourselves -- even for just five minutes, even imperfectly, even without really knowing what we are doing--is a wonderful way to lift our energy, improve our mood, and do something great for ourselves. And for those who want more -- there is much more to discover.

MEN’S FASHION ST 21 CENTU LJILJANA (ADAMOV) MILIČIĆ - FASHION DESIGNER AND LECTURER AT THE METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY. CREATIVE, HARD WORKING AND YOUNG DESIGNER IN THE WORLD OF MEN’S FASHION, CONFIDENTLY FINDS HER WAY TO CAT WALKS AT HOME AND ABROAD. WHAT POWERS HER IS HER OWN INSPIRATION, WORK AND DILIGENCE. I am powered by my own work Man’s constant need to learn, research and create is immeasurable. That’s how everything I do and make was born. I’m not bound to only one job, so my work days are different, but they are all in the field of clothing. I lecture at the Metropolitan University, in addition to teaching sewing and tailoring, and next to developing costumes for theatre shows and museums, my favourite work is designing men’s clothing. Designing clothes is a complex activity that connects all my senses. I love my job and I really enjoy it, even though it’s not easy and requires substantial investments, risks, and responsibility. Inspiration WORDS: LJILJANA MILIČIĆ PHOTOS: VESNA ANĐIĆ

I am most inspired by my own work process, while I am creating a certain piece of clothing I have a constant flow of new ideas and ways to apply the same form or details in different ways. I am inspired by overalls, and decades-old clothes that I see worn by my fellow citizens. Everything I notice that stays in my mind over time, I put on paper in my own style. During the development of a new garment, I don’t pay attention to supply and demand requirements of the market – instead I rely upon my own instinct and my ideas.

N IN THE URY We create the world with original ideas In the new collection, as well as in the previous ones, I keep to the classic form that follows the body line and puts an accent on shoulders. I don’t commit to one particular style, but instead combine them, so that garments can be worn in different occasions, and I let the customer wear it in their own style. I play with details such as fasteners, hidden pockets, zippers, combinations of materials. I try to make each piece of clothing unique in itself. I use mostly natural materials, even though synthetic fibers are being made today that have improved features. The material I love working with the most is waxed cotton. Often during the design process I love to hear my husband’s opinion about the pieces, and I gladly listen to the comments about the collection from people from the art world and close friends, whether those comments are positive or negative. They mean a lot to me. My designs are not intended for a certain type of man, but to all those that like them and those who feel good in them, because they will know how to wear it. I believe, as seen in practice, that recommendation by customers, “word of mouth“, is priceless. The reward The reward for my work certainly comes at the end, when I am content with the full realization of the collection, and the satisfaction shown by my customers. It’s what motivates my work and inspires me for further endeavors. There are no written rules –the rules are what you follow from your heart.

For those who like to travel, the opportunities to try a variety of dishes of the local population are a phenomenal experience. A real taste of dishes comes from the experienced cooks who are preparing traditional foods for years. Guided by scents of the Mediterranean dishes, find out which cuisine precede the healthiest cuisine in the world and how they are characterized. #4 JAPANESE CUISINE The Japanese have the lowest rates of obesity nowadays, only 3%, while the US covers a whopping 32%. This is a huge indicator of their different ways of eating. The main feature of Japanese cuisine is a good balance between low-calorie foods that are served on a plate or in a few small bowls and plates. The Japanese people are also practicing control of the process of eating, called “Hara Hachi Bu”, which can be freely translated as “eat up to 80% of satiety.” Japanese cuisine includes large quantities of rice, soups, mixed vegetables. The most popular vegetables that are included in a daily diet are: beets, burdock, carrots, eggplant, green beans, green peppers, lettuce, lotus root, onions, red peppers, spinach, tomatoes, zucchini, shiitake mushrooms, sweet potatoes, as well as sea weed: kombu, nori and

wakame. The main source of protein in the Japanese diet comes from fish. Most often Japanese people eat oily fish such as mackerel, salmon and tuna. This is corroborated by the fact that men and women in Japan belong to the group of people who have the longest life expectancy. On average, men live 79 years and women 86, compared to 75 and 80 years as the average life expectancy of Americans. #3 VIETNAMESE CUISINE Vietnamese cuisine is known by dishes made of seafood, fish, vegetables, predominantly cooked with water instead of oil. Meals prepared in the traditional Vietnamese way rely less on frying and heavy sauces, making them low-calorie, but still very tasty and filling. Across Asia, people use a lot of spices and herbs. In Vietnam meals are cooked with larger pieces of herbs or spices in the dish, so that when you take a bite you experience the flavor explosion. This kitchen is known for rice noodles and rice that provide wonderful balance to various spices. Some of the most commonly used spices as anise, cardamom and basil. The meat is used as a side dish or in soups, and vegetables are a key ingredient

of the most dishes. Although popular, beef short ribs, as a national dish, should be avoided if you seek healthier alternatives. #2 CALIFORNIAN CUISINE Californian cuisine is a fusion of healthy dishes that integrate spices and cooking techniques from different traditions. The characteristics of this cuisine are use of local, fresh and seasonal foods that are easy to prepare. Californian cuisine represents the mix of different cultures on the west coast of the United States, where immigrants from Italy and Spain brought their Mediterranean roots. The Italians continued tradition of planting different grape varieties from their homeland as well as tradition of making breads, pastas, vegetable dishes and homemade sauces. Spanish missionaries are responsible for planting and cultivation of olive trees, of which olive oil is obtained. It is nowadays a key ingredient in various dishes. The use of animal fats such as butter or lard are very rare. Californian cuisine is considered really healthy, but it is important to skip large quantities of cheese, meat and limit the intake of wine.

#1 MEDITERRANEAN CUISINE If you ask the doctors what is their opinion about the healthiest cuisine in the world, almost everyone will agree that it is precisely this kitchen. It includes a mix of the best local ingredients, limited portions and quality ingredients. Mediterranean countries are: Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, France, Monaco, Italy, Malta, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. Their similarities include a heavy reliance on food of plant origin, such as beans, fruits, nuts, seeds, olive oil, vegetables and whole grains, along with a limited amount of cheese, chicken, eggs, fish and yogurt. Average person who lives in the Mediterranean consumes 9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, eating the fish and chicken several times a week and limiting their intake of red meat only a few times a month. Breads made from different grains is an important part of the Mediterranean diet. It is often dipped in olive oil, but the use of butter or margarine is minimal or not used at all. Walnuts are popular as a quick snack, as well as almonds, cashews, pistachios and peanuts. The sea salt is not the most important spice because this region relies more on the tasty spices and herbs.

Sarajevo, World War I and 0º Aquarius

religions and cultures meet. This is the city full of contrasting and illogical issues, put together in a perfect living harmony, the city rich with cultural and historical heritage, just as many other cities in the Balkans are. Only, as you will immediately notice, with one difference – in it, despite suffering that has lasted for centuries and many other misfortunate circumstances that have happened to it, it has managed to keep and maintain a visible trace of every epoch, people, tradition, language, costumes, food and all of these have blended into a perfect union you cannot often find elsewhere. And another thing – Sarajevo has this incredible power to give you the sense of freedom, free breathing. It is also called a European Jerusalem because the shrines of all the beliefs can be found literally within 100 square meters vicinity one from another – the City Hall – bezistans – The Bay’s Mosque – the Catholic Cathedral – the Old Synagogue – the old Orthodox Church and Museum of Icons… HOROSCOPE OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

country, i.e. the USA have greatly participated in “tailoring” the B&H as we know it today. Namely, it is well known that today’s B&H is the result of the Dayton Peace Accords signed on 21st November 1995, as well as that the very axis of 13° Virgo - 13° Pisces is the axis related to the USA (you may read more about this in my article USA and 13º Virgo - 13º Pisces Axis – www.astrologsmiljanagavrancic.blogspot.com ). It made me think…I wondered which degree of the Zodiac could be significant for this country, in which the old and the new are combined… It is interested that the midpoint of Saturn (the old) and Uranus (the new) in the chart of this country is at a very symbolical degree, at 0° Aquarius! Also, the midpoint of Saturn (the old, the past) and Neptune (the future), which carries both the Sun (the rulers) from 13° Pisces and the Moon (the nation) from 0° Pisces, is at 0° Aquarius. Finally, Neptune is the ruler of 10 – the reputation of the country, so this is what gives the reputation of this country in public – the country where the past and the future are combined…

When I looked at the chart of Bosnia and Herzegovina (“The Book of World Horoscopes”, by Nicholas Campion), I have first noted that 4-10 axis goes through 13° Virgo - 13° Pisces, which quite clearly points out toward the significance of the United States for this

It made me thing that precisely this degree could be significant for this country, as, behind 0° Aquarius is 29° Capricorn (the end of the past…) … Finally, the description of the British magazine “tempestuous, yet a wonderful and inspiring marriage…” would fit into the

symbolism of 0° Aquarius. From 29° Capricorn we move to 0° (the new, the beginning) of Aquarius, which is a rather specific degree of the Zodiac, as across it the axis 29° Cancer - 0°Leo, the place where the two lights (the Moon and the Sun – the symbols of life) are combined… The message of the Universe from 29° Cancer is – “changing of beliefs” as this is the point known as the Third Eye (Jupiter, the sixth charka)…

B&H horoscope at that moment. It is precisely at 0° Aquarius!!! One of the key actors in this Agreement (as a representative of the Serbian side) was the then-President of the SRY, Slobodan Milosevic. His cusp of 8 in the directions (conflicts, wars) was then at 29° Capricorn 58’ (21st November 1995), while on 14th December 1995 (when the Dayton Peace Accords were signed in Paris), it already came at 0° Aquarius 02’…

THE THREE TIMES WHEN THE WORLD HAS A HUNDRED YEARS SINCE WORLD WAR I – HEARD OF SARAJEVO 28TH JUNE 2014 However, let us go back for a second to the moment when the world heard of Sarajevo for the first time. What the people from Sarajevo like to say is that the world has heard of it three times. The first time, it was on 28th June 1914, when a member of the organization Young Bosnia, Gavrilo Princip, shot the symbol of the AustroHungarian Monarchy, the presumptive heir to the throne Franz Ferdinand. At the place of this assassination, i.e. in this street, you can visit the Gavrilo Princip museum and hear interesting, even funny, stories and anecdotes about this event, which was the trigger of World War I, after which several empires disappeared – the Austro-Hungarian, the Russian, the Ottoman empires … If we look at the secondary progressions of Gavrilo Princip for that date, we find that his secondary Moon – the nation (moving by 1° for 1 month) got positioned precisely at 0° Aquarius at that moment! The second time when the world heard of Sarajevo on 8th February 1984, which was the year when Sarajevo hosted the Winter Olympic Games with the famous Vucko. These were the first, and for the time being, the only Winter Olympic Games in one communist country. Does this not fit in into the nature of 0° Aquarius? The sign of Aquarius is the seat of Uranus (communism) and the very symbol of 0° is the symbol of beginning, meaning, to be first in something…

As one hundred years since World War I was precisely between the fifth and sixth Uranus – Pluto square, and as B&H has the Sun (the rulers) at MC (power) at 13° Pisces, which was activated by the fifth Uranus – Pluto square of 21st April 2014 – forming a sextile with Pluto (transformation…) at 13° Capricorn (… the past) and a semi-sextile with Uranus (changes) at 13° Aries (… a new beginning), but also forming a trine with Jupiter at 13° Cancer (connecting with the Creator, God, within us, which is precisely the strongest at 15° Cancer, which is the point of connecting all the oppositions inside of us) – wasn’t all this a call of the Universe for the rulers in the territory of B&H to silently connect to God within themselves, by becoming close to themselves, by loving themselves and forgiving themselves, by changing the centuries long convictions and beliefs so as to enable the circumstances to change in the times ahead!? The fifth Uranus – Pluto square got activated precisely the fifth energy center, which is related to the throat Mercury chakra, providing an opportunity, precisely in the year of the hundred year’s anniversary of the assassination in Sarajevo … Finally, 1-7 axis in the directions (moving by 1° for 1 year) of B&H horoscope was over 0° Leo – 0° Aquarius , which clearly points out towards the significance of 0° Aquarius for B&H, Sarajevo, as the capital of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Srpska.

Traditionally, Bosnia is linked to the sign of Scorpio, the sign of the Uranus exaltation, whereas Herzegovina is related to the sign of Aquarius, the sign where Saturn (the old, the past) and Uranus (the new) are domicile, whereas this is also the sign of the exaltation THE DAYTON PEACE ACCORDS of Neptune (the future). Judging by everything, The war was ended by the Dayton Peace a significant degree for Sarajevo, the capital Accords which was reached on 21st of B&H, could precisely be at 0° Aquarius… November 1995 in one of the USA federal states of Ohio (as I have already mentioned in the text above). It is interesting to see the secondary cusp of 8 (conflicts, wars) of the And the third time when the world heard of Sarajevo was during the misfortunate war of 1992-1995, when one of the symbols of the city – the City Hall – was also on fire…
