FEBRUARY
Welcome to the Southbank Centre
There’s nothing quite like the energy and excitement of Imagine Children’s Festival: our vibrant family festival which sweeps through the Southbank Centre in February with more than 100 inspiring, uplifting and captivating events. This is the second year that all performances are Relaxed Performances, creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all. Our new Hayward Gallery show, When Forms Come Alive, reflects on 60 years of contemporary sculpture. It’s a wonderfully dynamic exhibition full of artworks that seem to move and change, connecting us to the physical world.
A whole new programme of classical music begins this month, too. Spring/Summer 2024 spotlights many brilliant artists and ensembles, and the great work of our Resident Orchestras, and offers many chances to feel the breathtaking power of live classical music up close. Mark Ball Artistic Director, Southbank Centre

Eat & explore Giraffe: a place for all the family Days out on the town can be a hungry business. If you’re looking for a central spot to refuel and relax, our branch of Giraffe beckons: their menu combines the freshest flavours with super-friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere. So, take the weight off and enjoy brunch, lunch, or simply drinks and nibbles at this colourful spot beside the Thames. This is a prime spot for people-watching – and the riverside views aren’t too shabby either. Whether your appetite is olive-sized or the dimensions of a katsu curry, there’s something for you here. Visiting with little ones for our Imagine Children’s Festival? No stress: the extensive kids’ menu caters for under-tens, for every meal of the day. Load up on
English breakfasts or pancake stacks to prep for the frolics ahead, or treat them to mini mains like fish and chips, burgers and pasta, all before returning to our halls for more multi-coloured fun. Situated on Riverside, Level 1 of the Royal Festival Hall, Giraffe is open Sunday – Thursday, 9am – 10pm & Friday – Saturday, 9am – 11pm. To explore all of the places that you can eat and drink around the Southbank Centre, check our website. southbankcentre.co.uk/eatanddrink
While away an hour in Foyles Just a hop, skip and a jump along the riverside from Giraffe, you can find an oasis for book-lovers: our very own branch of Foyles bookshop. Tucked away under the Royal Festival Hall, it's the perfect size for a cheeky lunchtime browse or a quick bibliophile fix while waiting for one of our events to start. There’s always something to discover in their selection of bestsellers, new releases and staff picks, as well as an inspirational (and tempting) selection of gifts and stationery. The footprint of the shop may be a fraction of the iconic Charing Cross Road flagship store, but we challenge you to leave empty-handed.
Younger readers are well-catered for, too, with a bright, inviting range of children’s books for all ages, plus family games, jigsaws and more. Foyles also stocks books relating to our programme of artistic events, so you might find that your favourite new author is speaking in one of our halls soon – don’t forget to check our website for details of upcoming talks. Foyles is open throughout the week, and you can access it from inside the Royal Festival Hall as well as via Queen's Walk. Monday – Sunday 10am – 6pm; Riverside, Level 1
