Simplistic Health, Yorkton’s newest (and only) private health clinic took up residence in Yorkton earlier this spring. Located in the Downton clinic at the corner of Smith St. and Myrtle Ave, the new clinic is in the care of Nurse Practitioner Alexandra Galli.

Alexandra grew up near Camrose, Alberta, and completed her Bachelor of Nursing degree at the University of Lethbridge. After graduating in 2010, she moved to Yorkton to work as an RN at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She worked in a host of different departments including Emergency, ICU, Obstetrics, Endoscopy, and Surgery.

She completed her Master of Nursing Nurse Practitioner program through the University of Saskatchewan and the Hospitalized Adult and Acute Care program for Nurse Practitioners from the University of Toronto in. Alexandra has also received training in cosmetic injections, including dermal fillers and neuromodulators, and is currently registered to complete the Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy program this winter in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Recently, Alexandra split time between working at the Downton Clinic and working as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) up north in Black Lake, which she states was a fun and exciting experience.

“I learned a lot up there and I really liked the structure of the clinic,” Alex stated. “When you saw the client, the clinic didn’t regulate a time limit for how long you had. So, we were able to spend as much time as we needed with them, to address all their concerns in one appointment.”

Alexandra built on that experience and it, along with a desire for a better work-life balance to spend more time with her young family, is what inspired her to open her own NP practise. She also valued the idea of having more time to spend with patients and more time to dedicate to the decision making that goes into their care.

“I dislike short appointments especially for new clients,” Alexandra stated. “You just don’t have the time to sort through all of your patient concerns. I valued the flexibility up north with regards to appointment length and what it could all encompass, and thought, ‘why can’t we have that here?’”

Alexandra’s goal with opening the clinic was to offer another health care option to our area offering a wide range of services, including primary health care appointments, minor procedures, laboratory blood draws and resting ECGs.

Alexandra hopes to help alleviate some of the workload from the hospital lab for outpatient blood draws. The clinic is also available during office hours and after-hours for minor injury treatment including soft tissue injuries and sutures (not requiring ER), which Alexandra says gives patients another option in the face of the increasingly busy emergency department and long wait times. Alexandra has even more goals for the clinic in the future including increasing NP staff and implementing in home consultations. This option would be available for patients who struggle with mobility, don’t have the family support, or means to drive to the clinic. It was a plan that was put on hold due to Covid, but one that Alexandra hopes to implement by early 2022 at the latest.
