DniPRO GogolFest GogolFest — міжнародний мультидисциплінарний фестиваль сучасного мистецтва. Упродовж 12 років фестиваль збирає довкола себе активних, творчих та мислячих людей. Він створює майданчик для комунікації між митцями різних сфер, українськими та іноземними фракціями в усіх видах мистецтва.

26 вересня 2019 року в Брюсселі відбулась церемонія нагородження фестивалів-лауреатів. Джонатан Міллс, колишній директор Единбурзького міжнародного фестивалю, із 705 учасників обрав п’ять найвпливовіших у своїй сфері. GogolFest став одним із переможців престижної європейської премії EFFEAwards 2019-2020 та, відповідно, таким чином увійшов до п’ятірки кращих фестивалів Європи.

GogolFest is an international multidisciplinary festival of contemporary art. For 12 years the festival has been gathering around active, creative and mindful people. It creates a platform for communication between artists of different spheres, Ukrainian and foreign factions in all kinds of art.

On September 26, 2019, the awarding ceremony of the laureate festivals was held in Brussels. Former director of the Edinburgh International Festival, Jonathan Mills has selected the five most influential festivals in its field from 705 participants. GogolFest is one of the winners of the prestigious European EFFE Awards 2019-2020 and, accordingly, one of the five best festivals in Europe.

Історія зі сквотом у Києві показала, що такі ідеї працюють. Саме тому ми вирішили повторити такий проєкт у Дніпрі. Звісно, важливою у цій справі стала й кураторка візуальної програми — Оля Шевченко. Вона змогла зібрати дуже цікаву команду художників, які за короткий час перетворили руїни в диво. У будь-якій справі це дає почуття єдності, почуття своєї потрібності — це чудово. Важко описати все це словами: такі проєкти — це насамперед емоції та почуття. Я розумію, що сяючі очі людей, які це робили, глядачів, які це побачили, дорого коштують та є цінними. Якщо ти робиш виставку у якійсь галереї, у кращому випадку туди прийде людей 100-200, та й ті здебільшого друзі. А тут пройшли 1000 чоловік, і нам важливо було показати, що ми можемо змінювати світ та створювати смисли. Це дуже круто!

President of DniPRO GogolFest Contemporary Art Festival The history of squatting in Kyiv has shown that such ideas work. That is why we decided to repeat this project in Dnipro. Of course, the curator of the visual program — Olga Shevchenko — became important in this case. She managed to assemble a very interesting team of artists who in a short time turned the ruins into a miracle.

In any case, it gives a sense of unity, a sense of usefulness — it’s great.

It is difficult to describe it all in words: such projects are, first and foremost, emotions and feelings. I understand that the glowing eyes of the people who did it, the viewers who saw it, are extremely valuable. If you are exhibiting in any gallery, at best, there will be 100-200 people, mostly friends. And there were 1,000 people in squat in Dnipro, and it was important for us to show that we can change the world and create meaning. It’s very cool!

Після тривалих пошуків головною локацією фестивалю DniPRO GogolFest стала територія телецентру «UA: Дніпро» та кіностудії Contrabas. Коли ми вперше потрапили на територію, то зрозуміли, що вона схожа на кіностудію Довженка у Києві, тільки менша. Колись, у 2010 році, ми проводили GogolFest у кіностудії. З тих часів концепція сквотів стала нам близькою, і ми намагаємося реалізувати її і в інших містах, у яких зараз відбувається фестиваль. У Дніпрі цей проєкт народився сам собою: я побачив захаращену двоповерхову будівлю для кіновиробництва. Нам вдалося провести туди електроенергію та воду, і ця локація стала придатною для життя. Поруч із будівлею розташована телевежа. Ми вирішили не нехтувати реальними можливостями, які були прямо перед нашим носом, та використати цю споруду як тему для художніх проєктів. Так виникла концепція «Комунікація та її відсутність». Ми спробували проаналізувати, як телевежа передає та сприймає інформацію, а також як ми можемо відчути один одного. Кураторка візуального мистецтва Оля Шевченко зібрала низку серйозних дніпровських художників, які змогли об’єднатися та створити близько 20 художніх проєктів у 20 кімнатах. Мені здається, це стало дивом не лише для міста Дніпра, але й для всіх. Я давно не бачив таких цікавих художніх почерків та форм, які використовують митці, аби висловити своє бачення комунікації. Все це також було б неможливим без допомоги Олексія Гармаша, який став технічним координатором проєкту та допоміг у його реалізації. Мені здається, на цьому фестивалі справді відбулася сильна та багатостороння комунікація. Вірю в те, що ці зв’язки дадуть можливість далі створювати масштабніші проєкти. У цей проєкт закладені зернятка, які мають прорости на цій дніпровській землі в щось дуже велике та унікальне.

Director of DniPRO GogolFest Contemporary Art Festival After a long search, the main location of the DniPRO GogolFest festival became the territory of TV Center UA:Dnipro and Contrabas Film Studio. When we first entered the territory, we realized that it was similar to Dovzhenko’s Center in Kyiv, only smaller. In 2010 we held the Gogolfest at the Dovzhenko‘s film studio and since that time the concept of squatters has become close to us and we are trying to implement it in other cities where GogolFest is now taking place.

In Dnipro this project was born by itself: I saw a cluttered two-storey building for filmmaking.

We managed to bring electricity and water there and this location became livable.

There is a TV tower near the building. We decided not to neglect the real opportunities that were right in front of our noses and to use this building as a theme for art projects. This is how the concept of “Communication and its absence” turned up. We tried to analyze how the tower transmits and perceives information, as well as how we can feel each other.

Olga Shevchenko, the visual arts curator, has gathered a number of serious artists from Dnipro who have been able to unite and create about 20 art projects in 20 rooms. It seems to me that it was not only a miracle for Dnipro, but for everyone. I have not seen for a long time such interesting artistic handwriting and forms that artists used to express their vision of communication. All this wouldn’t be possible without the help of Olexii Garmash, who became the technical coordinator of the project and helped to implement it.

It seems to me that strong and multifaceted communication really took place at this festival. I believe that these connections will allow us to continue creating larger projects.

This project contains grains that have sprouts on this Dnipro land into something large and unique.

GogolFest — ідеальне місце зустрічі для людей із абсолютно різними інтересами. Створюючи Pro-сквот, ми дотримувалися нового вектора розвитку виставкового простору: в ньому звичайні музейні експозиції стають єдиним живим організмом, а відвідувачі — невід’ємною його частиною. Невипадково тематикою візуальної програми DniPRO GogolFest стала «Комунікація», і в стінах сквоту це слово розкрилося на всі 100 %. Кожна кімната art-простору містила потужну ідею, закладену художниками. При цьому виставка об’єднала авторів і глядачів — представників абсолютно різних сфер діяльності, кожен із яких отримав заряд натхнення; звела незнайомих до цього людей, створивши нові зв’язки і, я впевнена, нові колаборації у майбутньому. Проєкти художників порушили складні питання, адже поняття комунікації стосується не тільки відсутності або налагодження контактів з нашим оточенням. Передусім це взаємодія із самим собою та своїм внутрішнім «я», інтроверт ви чи екстраверт, це пошук свого місця в суспільстві, вплив останнього на особистість і, навпаки, взаємозалежність між вами та мас-медіа, вами та існуючими суспільними механізмами, вами та природою... Всі аспекти, так чи інакше, резонують всередині у кожного відвідувача, зумовлюють дискусій і запускають новий етап у процесі комунікації.

GogolFest is the ideal place of meeting for people with absolutely different interests.

During the creation Pro-squat we were following the new vector of development of exposition space: the ordinary museum expositions become in it a single living organism and the visitors become its integral part. Not by chance “Communication” became the subjects of the visual program DniPRO GogolFest, and in the walls of squat this word came out for all 100 %.

Every room of the art space carried a powerful ideological sending, set by artists. The exposition united authors and spectators — representatives of the absolutely different spheres of activity, and everyone got the charge of inspiration; it brought together people, who did not know each other till now, creating the new connections and — I am sure — the new collaborations later. The projects of artists touched the complicated questions; you see, the notion of communications concerns not only the absence or establishment of the contacts with our environment. First of all, this is your interaction with yourself or your inner “Ego”, are you introvert or extravert, the search of your place in society, influence of the latter on a person and, on the contrary, interdependency of you and mass-media, you and existing social mechanisms, you and the nature... All the aspects, in any case, found response at every visitor, they created occasion for discussions and launch the new spire of communication process.

черет неначе проростає з підлоги до стелі всередині закинутого приміщення будівлі. Розміщені в незвичному для них, але у впізнаваному для людей середовищі, рослини викликають фізичне відчуття присутності сили природи, яку ми не помічаємо в буденному житті. Комунікація з природою відбувається через сприйняття глядачем дещо нереальної ситуації, яка штучно підсилена звуковим супроводом, освітленням та ефектом туману.

t seems that the rush shoots from the floor to the ceiling inside the abandoned room in a building. The plants, which are placed in surroundings unwonted to them, but recognizable for people, provoke the physical sensation of the presence of nature forces, which we pay no heed to in the everyday life. Communication with nature occurs through perception by a spectator of rather unreal situation, intensified artificially with the sound accompaniment, lighting and the effect of the mist.

сучасному світі більшу частину часу ми відчуваємо тачскріни та кнопки клавіатури. Багато з нас страждають від соціальної ізоляції (хоча мало хто в цьому зізнається). Мета кінестетичного простору — пробудження в нас тих відчуттів і почуттів, про які ми забуваємо під впливом індустріального прогресу та глобалізації.

P.S. Людині для нормального самовідчуття потрібно мінімум 4–8 (інформація у різних джерелах варіюється) тактильних контактів в день... У просторі можна отримати-віддати заряд тактильності на багато днів вперед.

• Можна торкатися всього, що знаходиться всередині простору (стіни, предмети, люди).

• Пересуватися акуратно та повільно.

• Розмовляти пошепки.

n the modern world, during the most part of time we are sensing the touchscreens and the keys of keyboard. Many of us suffer from the social isolation (though few people confess it).

The aim of the kinesthetic space – is to awake in us sensations and feelings, which we forget about, under the influence of industrial progress and globalization.

P.S. For the normal selfsensation a man needs minimum 4 – 8 tactile contacts a day (information is various in different sources) ... In the space it is possible to receive – to give the charge of tactility in advance for many days.

• One may touch everything what is inside the space (walls, objects, people).

• To move accurately and slowly.

• To speak in a whisper.

и дочекалися темряви й опускаємося на глибину 48 м. На цьому рівні найкраще формуються коралові рифи. Тут — прозора, прохолодна вода, температура якої — +19 °C. Ми уповільнюємо рух, заглядаємо в потаємні місця та проводимо нічну зйомку... Мета проєкту — створити ілюзію занурення. Робота імітує структуру коралових рифів і підводного світу, тут поєднані нержавіюча сталь і спінений каучук. Злиття штучних і натуральних матеріалів передає ідею існуючого зв’язку між природним і штучним світом, так само як і між віртуальним і реальним.

e waited for the darkness and are sinking to the depth of 48 m. The coral reefs are shaping the best at this level, there is the transparent, cool water with the temperature +19 °C. We slow down our motion, peeping into secret spots and conducting the night survey...

The aim of the project is to create illusion of submergence. The work imitates the structure of coral reefs and submerged world, the stainless steel and the foamed caoutchouc are combined here. Blending of artificial and natural materials reproduces the idea of existing connection between the natural and artificial world, as well as between the virtual and the real.

e always complain that we lack words.

Sometimes we would so like that other person would simply look into our brain, would see the same picture that we are seeing and would understand everything. And what if we really had possibility to translate our thoughts without speech? Videoproject will help to research the experience of communication observing the flow of thoughts as unreal, as it is. But are we ready to show everything what we hide under the mask of absence of words, if sometimes we are hiding it even from ourselves?

юдина живе на рівні розуму, на периферії своєї свідомості. Щоденна метушня, ситуації, конфлікти ганяють її по колу. Ланцюгова реакція негативних думок та емоцій. Натиск оточення. he action consists of two parts.

In the first part: the painter is drawing the picture.

The points in the picture created by him, symbolize in concrete way every subject of our civilization and communication built by them. The scheme of the world’s model is the reflection of interaction between small and big elements of macroand microcosmos.

In the second one: some other artist paints over this work and creates by this action a new, clear world, which is ready for regeneration, for new senses.

«Вікна» ІНСТАЛЯЦІЯ ТА КАЛІГРАФІЯ

В

ікна в мистецтві — це завжди портал у якісь інші світи. Проєкт занурює нас в епоху Гоголя: старовинні вікна, характерні шрифти (український скоропис, в’язь) в поєднанні з неординарними кольорами та елементами футуризму виявляють комунікацію між часами (сьогоденням і минулим). Написані цитати Гоголя та його сучасників за допомогою кольору та форм відображають різноманітні відтінки висловів.

he windows in art are always the portal to some other worlds.

The project submerges us into Gogol’s epoch: ancient windows, characteristic prints (Ukrainian cursive, ligature) in combination with non-ordinary colors and elements of futurism reveal the communication with times (the Present and the Past). The written quotations of Gogol and his contemporaries reflect, by means of color and forms, the various senses of expressions.

n the modern world a person lives in the dense information field. Social nets, chats, visual noise of advertisement… Communication as modus vivendi – is this illusion or reality? The freedom or a small room? But the sunlight gives the opportunity to remember the real world, real senses, genuine dreams and the real people, who live beside us, at the distance of the stretched hand. To hear.

wo series of works dedicated to the city are represented in this room. The work “Footbridges” from the series “Studio and around” has artistic and documentary character; there the city is investigated in the conventional objective reality.

To the contrary, the series of drawings “City/Construction” is characterized with deviation from the real, fragmentation and the abstract rhythm of industrial metropolis.

e, all the people, look in different way at ourselves, at other people and the world around us.

Sometimes we do it too critically. Often we do not get sight of our beauty and, what is more are complexing over our natural data, compete with invented standards and ideals. This experiment reflects, how much our notion about ourselves coincides or differs from what, how our associates see us in this case this is the photographer. *The first photo from two pictures of every participant of experiment had been chosen by the participant himself, and the second one by the author.

Some sequences coincide, but mainly — not.

и, люди, всі по-різному дивимося на себе, на інших і на світ навколо. Іноді занадто критично. Часто не помічаємо своєї краси і до того ж комплексуємо через природні дані, рівняючись на вигадані стандарти та ідеали. Цей експеримент відображає, наскільки сильно збігається або відрізняється наше уявлення про самих себе й те, як бачить нас оточення, у цьому разі фотограф.

*З двох фотографій кожного учасника експерименту першу вибрав сам учасник, а другу — автор. Деякі кадри збігаються, але, переважно, — ні.

Так люди залишаються в невіданні, що їхні можливості — безмежні. Мета інсталяції — запитати себе: «Чи боюся я бути собою?», «Роблю я те, що подобається мені, чи те, що потрібно?», «Чи боюся я залишитися незрозумілим?»

eople drive themselves into the bounds, underestimating their means. They are afraid of risking, of overstepping the limits of their comfort, the fear to be misunderstood stops them. So people remain in ignorance that their means are infinite.

The aim of installation is to put the question to ourselves: “Do I fear to be myself?”, “Do I what I like, or what is necessary?”, “Do I fear to remain misunderstood?”

вітло й темрява є в кожному з нас, і упродовж життя ми постійно балансуємо на цій крихкій межі. Межі, що насправді об’єднує полюси єдиного Цілого, які не можуть існувати один без одного. Цей проєкт через повість Миколи Гоголя «Вій» відображає темний бік кожної людини, її підсвідомість, первинні страхи та вірування.

here are lights and darks in every person, and all along our life we are constantly balancing on this fragile verge, the Verge, which represents poles of a Single Whole, which can not exist one without other.

Through the novel “Vii” by Mykola Gogol the authors of the project reflect on “the dark” side of every person, his/her subconsciousness, primary fears and believes.

n due course the skirts were shortening, legs of young girls were baring and they became the symbol of the present. Traditions were turning over, from feet to the head, changing their sense and acquiring the other context.

hey are the forest spirits, mavki-niavki, who come up from the ground. They are a part of nature, mythology and mystics.

They unite true and fabulous, real and unreal. They are guides to the other world, which we would like to touch to, like to all the unknown.

Разом із автором проєкту відвідувачі фестивалю створили загальну картину почуттів на великому полотні.

his is the room, where everyone who wishes has the possibility to become a part of performance and to reflect one’s senses – all, what the visitor had time to experience after passing through the territory of the festival, listening to the music of invited groups, being submerged into theatrical and visual programs – through creative work, modern art and ink. Together with the authors of the project, visitors of the festival created the general picture of senses on the big canvas.

It is simple, like to bring at home an acorn in the pocket. It has the force to become quite other – so great and incomprehensible as the tree, which gave life to it.

Літачок в руці — одночасно відображення минулого й майбутнього: раніше ми робили літачки з паперу, запускали в небо написані на них побажання. А зараз літачок — це наші повідомлення в мережі.

he polygonal sculpture of a child with a green paper in the Russian language is a symbol of pragneny to all new. Bagatokutnі form sculptures symbolize our current light - light technology. A little girl in Russian language is like an image of an instantly past and a Maybutny one: earlier, we robbed the little girls from the papaer, launched into the sky written in new words. And at the same time, the little one is our measure in the least.
