EDITOR’S CHOICE AWARDS The JCK Design Center Editor’s Choice Awards honors designers who break the boundaries of innovation and originality, while combining new trends and classic ideas. This award was created to celebrate imagination and honor excellence in craftsmanship.

JCK Design Center exhibitors submitted up to 3 images of a jewelry design that have been narrowed down to nine finalists (3 Kickstarters, 3 Rising Stars and 3 Residents) by the elite panel of judges including Grace Fuller – W, Sarah Gerrish – Redbook, Katerina Perez – Katerina Perez (blog) and Paula Lee – The Oprah Magazine, Jennifer Gach – ELLE Magazine.

Please take a moment to review the finalists and submit your vote - 1 for each Design Center Exhibiting Category. The winners will be announced Friday, June 3 from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm in the Loft, Palm Foyer, Level 3.

PIECE NAME Black Gold Duo Necklace DESCRIPTION OF PIECE Two slices of black, glacial ice falling from a gold chain. Carved from ultralight acrylic that evokes the edgy look of stone but defies gravity, this necklace is reserved for the bold and the inquisitive

PIECE INSPIRATION The photograph of an upside down glacier by Alex Cornell. Typically white with snow, the flipped iceberg is a deep shade of translucent blue-green. Mesmerizing but dangerous, the flipped iceberg is also indicative of global warming and subsequently changing salinity levels in the sea.

DESCRIPTION OF BRAND Olivia Shih creates sculptural jewelry for the bold and inquisitive. Her jewelry takes the form of ultralight gemstones constructed from hand-carved, reused acrylic. Striking yet classic, each piece of jewelry is sculpted to draw out the translucency of gemstones and the texture of industrial city life.

PIECE NAME Chrysolampis Mosquitus Brooch DESCRIPTION OF PIECE Brooch made with SWAROVSKI GEMSTONES - Sapphire, Topaz, Spinel and Smoky Quartz, pavé-set in palladium and 18kt yellow gold.

PIECE INSPIRATION FLIGHT is Vicky Lew’s début collection, fueled by nature-inspired forms and the juxtaposition of these forms on the human body. Born in Malaysia and based in London, the recent Central St. Martins graduate found that living in close proximity to Hyde Park heightened her appreciation for the beauty of nature, particularly that of birds in flight.

Her aspirations were to capture the drama and majesty of this transient moment in pieces of fine jewellery.

DESCRIPTION OF BRAND A native of Kuala Lumpur, Vicky Lew graduated from Central Saint Martins, London in 2014 with a First Class Honours in jewellery design. Vicky’s design house is based in London, where she has lived for seven years and now considers home. Vicky’s design aesthetic is rooted in the classical Japanese philosophy of wabi sabi, that beauty can too be found in imperfection, impermanence and incompletion. A rose on the vine and a fallen rose on the ground are equally beautiful. Each piece is crafted with traditional Eastern sensibilities with Western design concepts, delivering strong narratives and intricate interplays between organic shapes and geometric forms.

PIECE NAME Agate pendant with South Sea pearl and Diamonds, from the Signature Collection DESCRIPTION OF PIECE Octagon Pendant With South Sea Mabe Pearl, white diamonds and Agate.

PIECE INSPIRATION Doryn’s inspiration to use polished black agate for the pendant stems from her interior design work, which often featured beautifully-veined marbles and other stonework. The South Sea pearl’s setting was influenced by the ornamental Art Deco details of Rockefeller Center. The gold ball chain, meanwhile, is another echo of Doryn’s background in interior design; it’s a play on a lamp chain.

DESCRIPTION OF BRAND Doryn Wallach creates fine jewelry that infuses the elegance of estate pieces with a distinctly modern spirit. Doryn’s unique aesthetic is shaped by her nearly two decades working as an interior designer in New York City. Her jewels are influenced by the dazzling geometric patterns and stylized motifs of the Art Deco period as well as the romance of fine estate jewelry. Doryn’s passion for bold shapes, contrasting textures and unusual stones is evident throughout her collections. Crafted in 18k gold with a satin finish, her statement-making pieces incorporate stones such as white diamond, black diamond, black onyx, agate, turquoise, red coral, pearl, sapphire and emerald. “I love playing with complementary forms, textures, colors and layers to create jewelry with a timeless glamour,” says Doryn, who studied interior design at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. “I think of each piece as a modern heirloom to be passed down to a new generation.
