elcome to our 2020 Private Treaty Bull Sale...
Our family has enjoyed another trip around the sun in this progressive and exciting industry. We are blessed to raise our kids where we work, and share with them a passion for agriculture. Over the past year we have focused mainly on setting up at our new farm! We did manage to sneak away to Weyburn this summer where the kids participated in Bonanza 2019, and to spend a great week at Square D with the Duke family. We have enjoyed pasture tours along the way, and also enjoyed seeing friends, customers, and fellow producers at agriculture exhibitions throughout the year such as Farmfair International, Agritrade, and various bull and female sales. Our kids settled back into the school routine in the fall and are now enjoying being outside to help with all things calving. If our paths haven’t crossed recently, we look forward to seeing you soon. 2

TOTAL PROGRAM Hello and welcome to our 2020 pen of bulls. Firstly, we would like to extend a sincere Thank-You to everyone who has supported us over the last ten years. Whether you came to tour the cattle on pasture, to sort through the bull pen, attended our Open Pen Event, or purchased genetics from our herd at any point in time; Thank-You. Taking a chance on young producers is not everyone’s foremost choice. We recognize and value every phone call conversation and every hour out of your day that has been spent looking at our cattle. The past year has been one of growth and independence for us. The purchase of our farm, renovations to our home, a move, and the gradual setup of cattle facilities have occupied virtually every extra moment we can possibly spare. The cowherd is in a growth phase as well, to help accommodate for the direction we are heading. With these significant changes underway, it has added considerable pressure on the cowherd. The cattle are the foothold for our operation; the land base, the expenses, our family and our livelihood. Neither of us have earned off farm income in the past 8 years. With this in mind, we made some constructive changes. We have reflected wholly on our position in the cattle industry, and where our strengths lie. At the core of it all, we were both raised by commercial cattlemen. The commercial cow/calf industry is one that we rely on for cash flow; to make our payments. The brunt of Redline Livestock is commercial cattle. Our bills are paid each fall by a large group of baldy steer calves. Diversifying into seedstock has been a growing passion for us over the years, and the fire has been fueled by an incredible learning curve along the way. We have now reached a point that we recognize where our spot lies in the purebred industry; working for commercial cattlemen. Our cowherds need to work for us. Our animals need to be profitable. We need to see return on investment. Key requirements include data based backgrounds, no-miss track records, efficiency, and above all; consistent quality. We have learned a vast amount of details revolving the seedstock industry. For every cowherd we have come across, it is difficult to pinpoint it’s profitability. Is the herd paying for itself, is it making money? We have come to value numbers. Realizing your cost of production. Pinpointing your precise break-evens. Awareness of how every price change in the commodities is going to affect the cost to develop your calves. Gaining a handle on these numbers and calculations helps us to be more objective when we cull through the cowherd. Utilizing the cull as our most effective tool has increased our bottom line. Our bull pen this year is a direct reflection of these practices being put into production. The bulls you see are the ones that made the cut. Over 70 bull calves were castrated in November. While a cow might work hard and earn her spot in our herd, that does not mean her bull calf earns a spot in yours. The culled group of steers that were castrated and backgrounded were easy fleshing, hairy, and developed soundly. What is left in the bull pen is a group of honest individuals born from February through the end of April. We depend on this program to support our livelihood. If a bull is in the pen, we feel that he deserves to be there, and has potential to work in our herd. If we wouldn’t walk the bull ourselves, we wouldn’t expect any other cattleman to. Throughout our catalog this year, we are including a look inside our program.

For the second year in a row, this cow has raised our feature sale bull. Dracarys has all the makings of a great bull. He is strong topped, masculine, correct, big hipped, hairy, and sound. He also comes in with calving ease and performance all in one package. Don’t miss his mid March birthdate- he is young. The Capitol daughters are in their second year of production at Redline, and we couldn’t be happier with them. They are highly maternal and have outstanding udder structure and capacity. Capitol sons have been consistent in calving ease and 21G will be no different. His mother is a favorite in the herd, and was flushed in 2016. Maternal brothers are working for Richard Toews; Linden, AB, and Valley View Colony.
A very impressive son of Ter-Ron Parker 25A, this bull puts it all together for us. He is packed with hard muscle, and has the makings of a powerful herdsire. His Maternal sister is one of our top cows, and raised our 2019 female consignment to Red Roundup, who was then entered into the $100 000.00 Junior Heifer Calf Extravaganza. PEDIGREED F1 GENETICS UNIFORMITY | QUALITY | DATA 20
OUR FUTURE GENERATION OF SALE HEIFERS & BULL RAISERS In 2019 we began to adapt our commercial breeding program towards the inclusion of pedigreed F1 genetics, in addition to our existing commercial herd of 250 females. Here going forward, we are breeding groups of purebred females, and all of our purebred replacements, to strong herdsires of the opposing breed. The offspring have potential in many avenues including strong commercial replacements, recipient females, 4H projects, and sale heifers. By crossing all purebred replacements their first year, we are ensuring that the top up and coming seedstock females will also have an impact on the commercial herd. The motivation behind the pedigreed program is an ever increasing demand for F1 blaldy females, and a low supply of proof regarding first cross heifers. Our goal is to provide a large group of females with a pedigree, and data to back their performance. Every detail that we keep on the purebred herd, including birthweights, weaning weights, yearling weights, body condition scores, birth and health records, herd health protocols, and udder and feet scoring is already fully integrated into the commercial herd as well. We want to utilize this data to it’s fullest potential and broaden it furthermore to include feed efficiency, in-herd status scoring, and return on investment calculations on a per-cow basis. Our hope is that this will help us over time to advance the commercial herd into a select, elite group of cows. By doing it on a large scale involving 300+ females, our hopes is that we can define and pinpoint the desirable traits on a more accurate basis, properly assessing sire groups as we go. From here, a pedigreed F1 producer that ranks herself in the top 20% of the herd, is then is bred back purebred for seedstock genetics.
Our objective is to use this program as quality control on the seedstock females, ensuring that every dam of a sale bull has excelled under the exact prerequisite conditions which her son is expected to breed.

A Trust son out of a top-producing Fielder 85Y daughter who has caught many eyes during summer pasture tours here. A maternal brother is working for Nathan Reinhardt; Didsbury, AB.
When we were offered the Deliverance semen, we weren’t sure where to breed him. We only bred one female to Deliverance in 2018 and boy did she knock it out of the park with this chunk. He has been an outlier since early summer, and caught our eyes during every pasture check. This bull ranked #1 out of the hereford bulls in the offering for weight per day average on pasture. BW: 97 | W W 698 | CE **

Performance at it’s best, this cow raises some of the biggest bull calves every year, and always calves unnassited. The wide hooks and pins in this family make them excellent brood cows. A maternal brother is working for Steven Turner; Linden, AB. This bull ranks #2 in the hereford offering for weight per day average on pasture. 29

Out of an exceptionally good cow, 43G is a powerful son of Coalition 52U. A maternal brother is working for Kadings at Brooks, AB, and we retained a maternal brother for use on our commercial herd as well.
Out of an attractive female, this husky Coalition son has a great haircoat and that nice cherry red color. He is a nice framed bull that has a lot of room to continue to grow and fill out.

The only Northeastern son in the offering, 60G is a very well rounded and complete made bull. We run a lot of Northeastern daughters and granddaughters in our herd and they have proven to be a very maternal group.
Probably the most complete calf she has raised to date, Hershey 5X has numerous sons that have sold in the sale in past years, including bulls we have retained ourselves. Consistent and low maintenace, she is 11 years old and still weaning mid March calves just shy of 800 lbs. He ranked #4 in the overall offering for weight per day average on pasture. The entire pen was pictured the second week of January, putting the bulls at less than 60 days on their feed ration, and anywhere between 2 and 4 months before they turn one year of age. Come late spring time, when the
majority of comparable aged bulls will sell, the pen will have gained a substantial amount of weight and will have matured significantly.
Long sided and big middled, this is a powerful March born bull sired by Hugo. His weight per day average on pasture is very i m p re s s i v e . M a t e r n a l brothers are working for Ken Lienweber; Linden Ab, and Jeff Whitlow; Madden, AB.
It has now been over ten years that we have been running cows and building Redline Livestock. Along the way, it turned into a family operation, with our kids; Joni, Grady, Morgan, and Orin. We are located less than an hour’s drive northeast of Calgary International Airport, about 20 Miles East of Didsbury, AB on the #582 Highway. Our operation is based entirely around livestock. The herd currently consists of over 400 breeding females, with hopes to continue increasing numbers over the next few years. The seedstock portion makes up about one third of the overall numbers, and is divided between two breeds; Red Angus and Polled Herefords. The commercial herd is based around non-registered Polled Hereford cows, bred to purebred Angus bulls. The commercial calf crop each year is bred to be majority F1 crossed calves. When we started, we both had recently graduated Olds College, with diplomas in Agriculture Business and Agriculture Production. The network of people we met in Olds have proved to be lifelong friends, many in similar situations to ourselves. Both of us have been through and selected in the Cattleman’s Young Leaders program, Becky in 2013 and Travis in 2019. We have always strived to be prograsseive minded, and to push hard at what we do. Both being raised on commercial cow/calf mixed with grain operations, we had a strong background to begin within commercial cattle, but started entirely from scratch in the purebred industry. Some helpful mentors and family members along the way have been crutial pieces to the puzzle for us. Of course, the best lessons learned have also been the hardest ones. We have a tendancy to stick close to home, and to not take a ton of time off to get out into public. Times are busy, and we have had to sacrifice getting out on the showroad each fall, to instead get the important jobs done at home. We recognize the importance of PR in the industry, and respect our peers who are out there getting it done in the show ring. Our cattle are not being showcased in the ring at this time, but our objective is to return. Raising our kids in this business is nothing but a bonus for us. They have countless people to look up to and learn from, and their future is bright. We look forward to seeing you this spring. Thank-You Travis & Becky
