Oysters of southern Moreton Bay

The oysters of southern Moreton Bay were once a keystone species for Indigenous communities. With the arrival of settlers came new attitudes and fishing techniques, changing ecosystems and natural habitats throughout south-east Queensland. National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).

Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by Australians, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, homes and children’s facilities all over the country.

We need your help to build a science rover! Join us for a hands-on afternoon of building and coding with our Lego Wedo kits and create Milo the Science Rover.

Origami dragon puppets

Put your dexterity to the test and create a vibrant, moveable paper dragon! Use paper folding techniques and paddle pop sticks to make your hand-crafted dragon come to life.

Jumping birds

Wednesday 19 April 3.30 – 4.30pm at Capalaba Library

Use the principles of force, pressure and acceleration to make your very own jumping bird. Design, decorate and customise your bird’s features and use rubber bands to launch it into flight!

Drop in and enjoy an afternoon of DIY challenges with our tech kits. Each kit contains a STEAM activity designed to inspire, challenge and captivate young minds.

Come along to these bright outdoor sessions in our Redlands Coast parks. Make new friends, discover new stories and enjoy sharing rhymes and activities together. Bring your hat, sunscreen, water bottle and picnic rug.

First 5 Forever at the library

The first few years of a baby’s life are a wonderful time for growth, development and learning.

At Redland City Council Libraries, we know it’s never too early to enjoy reading with your baby.

Our First 5 Forever program creates experiences and opportunities that build strong emergent literacy foundations and lifelong learning capabilities in all young children. We firmly believe that parents, caregivers and families are children’s first and most important educators. Our programs strive to support and equip families with helpful key messages and fun tips, creating a community that loves reading and learning together.

First 5 Forever tip: Shopping time!

The next time you go shopping, make a list together. This is a fantastic literacy activity that shows your little one the many ways we read and write every day. Have fun!

Whether its in a library or a Pop up Library at one of our beautiful parks, all First 5 Forever sessions encourage listening, singing, imagination and meaningful social connections.
