High praise for SES volunteers

High praise for our SES volunteers

We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated, hardworking group of SES volunteers on Redlands Coast who are willing to put the safety of others ahead of their own.

They have proved yet again to be exceptional at what they do, with Redland City State Emergency Service Unit volunteers scoring a state award and six regional awards during the recent SES Week, which acknowledges the outstanding service SES volunteers provide to their own and other communities during times of crisis.

Local Alex Johnson, of the Redland Bay SES Group, deserves a huge pat on the back after being named not only the Brisbane Region Volunteer of the Year for his distinguished service but also the Queensland Volunteer of the year.

Alex was recognised for his leadership, dedicated service to the community and for continually developing the knowledge and skill level of fellow members, providing the service with longevity.

The Redland City SES Unit was also highly commended.

In the past 12 months or so, the unit’s members attended 490 jobs, from land searches for missing people, responding to storm damage, supporting police with COVID-19 border security, assisting Queensland Health with COVID-19 vaccination and testing hubs, community support and public education.

The commitment of these volunteers to our community safety was supported by the opening of the Redland Bay SES Group’s new $1.7 million purposebuilt home base in May at Redland Bay Business Park.

It was the result of a long-term plan to better equip and streamline our SES services to ensure they can better respond to incidents in our area and continue to be among the best in the state.
