T

eacha Dee, he is a Reggae artiste/Teacher/producer who has been able to establish an everlasting presence in the reggae scene worldwide. SURE-D

S

tunning entertainer Sure-D, also known as Kathy-Ann Murray, delivers an authentic and fun Dancehall sound on new single “My Ting.” The Badda General-produced song sees the artist who was born in Trinidad and Tobago and raised in Toronto, Canada, expanding well beyond her Soca roots.

“I felt like I’ve always dabbled in different styles of music and I just went with my vibe at the time. I am a fan of Dancehall and wordplay and thought this style allowed me creative expression on the song,” says Sure-D. “My Ting” boasts a catchy hook over an old school uptempo beat, bound to capture the attention of the masses. Whether listeners are reciting the lyrics or just moving and grooving, the familiar sound and vibe of “My Ting” is slated to help solidify the Sure-D brand amongst wide audiences. “My Ting” was penned from the perspective of an independent woman. Sure-D makes it a habit to not be pigeonholed into one genre of music and refers to her music overall as a “world sound.” “You will be able to hear the Soca and Dancehall influences within most of my music,” the singer says. “However, you can also identify genres like R&B and Afrobeats. In Trinidad, we have a dish called ‘Pelau’ — with a little bit of everything in one pot. That’s actually a good way to think of my music.” It’s no surprise that Sure-D handpicked Dancehall frontrunner Badda General to produce “My Ting,” as he is a triple industry threat (artist, selector and producer), who has been scoring with a wealth of hit music. According to Sure-D, the connection with Badda General came in 2018 via another Toronto-based Dancehall act. But it was in 2019 when the two joined forces. As Sure-D strives to reach global audiences with her diverse style, she longs for the day to “touch road” again safely.

RED INK MAGAZINE

Like many, Sure-D had to adapt to a virtual world and the near standstill pace of live entertainment during the pandemic. As an independent artist, she had to work extra hard to promote her music. No stranger to the stage, Sure-D has performed at Soca Monarch in Trinidad, opened for Jada Kingdom in Orlando, Florida just before the pandemic and recently graced Jerkfest in Toronto. Sure-D cites her electrifying stage presence, creativity and songwriting as her stand-out criteria. In fact, Sure-D’s song-writing skills have afforded her opportunities to write with renowned songwriting teams and producers (Kia Jeffries, James Lackey and Steven Jordan better known as Stevie J) for a range of Pop, Gospel, Hip Hop and Reggae artists, including

Freddie McGregor and Turbulence. “My Ting,” destined to have audiences having fun and dancing again, is out now on all digital platforms. NOEL SCHAJRIS & GUAYNAA “ENTRE LAS NUBES”

R

enowned musician, singer-songwriter Noel

Schajris, considered one of the best voices in Latin America, teams up with the it boy of the hour, Guaynaa, to create an unexpected and explosive collaboration with their song "ENTRE LAS NUBES". This pop ballad style track was produced by Noel himself, who was also the composer along with Guaynaa and Andy Clay. The song's lyrics tell the story of a person who travels a lot that, watching the clouds from the plane's window, thinks and longs for the one he/she loves while counting the hours to see him/her and embrace him/her again. The end result is a romantic and moving track that represents Noel's brilliant and melodic style, but that acquires new colors and nuances with the addition of Guaynaa's powerful interpretation singing in its purest style, resulting in a unique and very special piece that echoes when you listen to both voices at the same time.

12

RED INK MAGAZINE

"I met Guaynaa while on a radio show in Miami and we realized that a collaboration could be made because we had a lot of chemistry right away. He is a great talent, with an impressive versatility and amazing musicality. I think the people are going to be very surprised with this result! I love the way we sound together and the energy of the song. It has been an absolute pleasure to work on this project with him.” – Noel Schajris "We came together to create a song that speaks from the heart. The lyrics emphasize the distancing, the detachment, and what we endure as people who travel a lot for work reasons, being far away from the ones we love. Hopefully it touches everyone, in the same way it touched us."– Guaynaa The video is now available on Noel Schajris' YouTube channel. It was recorded in the city of Los

Angeles, California and is a visual representation of the single's narrative, with both artists as the main characters. Latin Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Noel Schajris celebrates 20 years of career with "Mi Presente Tour", which kicked off October 29th in Miami, Florida. During the tour Noel will perform songs such as "No veo la hora", "Momentos", "Infinitamente Tuyo", as well as his greatest hits with the duo Sin Bandera including his recently released collaborations. Noel Schajris is an Argentine-born, Los Angelesbased singer, songwriter, pianist and producer who experienced great success as part of the duo Sin Bandera in the early and mid-2000s, before embarking on his successful solo career.

angol Kid, a member of the legendary hip-hop group UTFO, has died after a battle with colon cancer. He was 55. Kid was known for often sporting the popular Kangol headwear and being a member of UTFO, which stands for Untouchable Force Organization from 1983 to 1992. The fourmember group was known for 1980s hits including “Roxanne, Roxanne” and “Ya Cold Wanna Be With Me.” Kangol Kid, was born Shaun Shiller Fequiere in Brooklyn on Aug. 10, 1966. JOSEPH VELVET Reggae Singer Joseph Velvet Overcomes Obstacles for Debut Album 'Perseverance'

A

gainst all

odds, singer Joseph Velvet has released his debut album "Perseverance." The suitably titled effort is a true testament to the talent's long journey in the music business and overcoming numerous obstacles, including a motor vehicle accident, resulting spinal injuries, decades of rehabilitation and bouts of depression. If the name Joseph Velvet, aka Joseph Jordan Jones, rings a bell, it's because he is the silky smooth vocalist behind the late 80's cover of "Wildflower," followed by some well-received, intermittent releases. Much to the singer's credit, Velvet performed alongside a who's who of Reggae greats. But his ascent to fame was cut short by the accident. It's 2021 and the courageous crooner has returned with a debut album, filled to the brim with 10 heartfelt Reggae songs, boasting a predominately Lover's Rock feel and sound. The new album, a true labor of love, is rooted in spiritual and cultural values. "I hope to motivate listeners far and wide to never give up on their personal and professional goals," says Joseph Velvet. "Perseverance is the key to success." The lead single "Do What I Got to Do" -- which is Velvet's favorite song on "Perseverance" -- was inspired by his wife, the great love of his life. "It is about the impossible things a man will do in this life in the name of love," the singer says. Notably, "Do What I Got to Do" has garnered an impressive buzz since it's release. While "Mean It" oozes a festive vibe, love takes center stage on "Anyway" and "Tell Me." The spiritual essence of gems like "Oil of Life," "Love Face," and "Captive's Prayer" are bound to impact music lovers. "Arms Around Me" is a warm track that comes to life with seamless harmonies. 18

All of the tracks on "Perseverance" help tell Joseph Velvet's story through music. The entertainer leaves no stone unturned on the well rounded effort, which is by all accounts a solid Reggae album. The independent release within itself is an ultimate source of motivation. According to Joseph Velvet, "My age alone should be encouragement others to never give up on their dreams." "Perseverance is out now on all digital platforms. PERSEVERANCE DIGITAL LINK: https://josephvelvet.hearnow.com/ FOLLOW ON IG: @joseph.velvet

Continued...from page 23 RED INK Magazine had the pleasure of interviewing Vedeta Hanley. This is what she had to say. REDINK: Who or what influenced you to get into fashion designing? VH: My grandmother was a seamstress. I was fascinated how she could look at a picture and bring it to life with a sewing machine. I love the designer Versace. I love the richness of their prints. As a design assistant at Ralph Lauren I love watching him put together a collection and I love his overall brand management style. REDINK: Tell us about your journey getting to where you are today. VH: I went to school for graphic design but I was hired at a fashion house as an assistant designer because of my sketching skills. I fell in love with the industry. As I learned and grew as time went on I worked for different brands, I grew a desire to launch my own brand. 2016 I Launch V Hanley and this year July 2021 I launched Genesis & luke. REDINK: Is there a favorite design that you have done for someone? If yes...who? VH: I love prom dresses and wedding dresses because I love seeing the joy on their faces when the dress is completed. REDINK: Tell us some challenges that you had to deal with in the fashion industry. VH: Some of my challenges are breaking the color barrier. Most companies I worked for, I am usually the only brown person in the room. they don't feel you deserve your position. I find you have to be the fastest, most creative, and the hardest working just to get a seat at the table. I am ready to rise to any occasion, but at times it is frustrating to hear when some says " she is talented but she don’t have the right look" which is why I admire Virgil Abloh, he showed the world, art and fashion is about creativity and sales, and you don't have to "look a certain way, being a certain color, to be successful or make a brand successful. I love how Rihanna has built Fenty, a billion-dollar empire. If you give us the opportunity we can create empires, or maybe that is what they are scared of. Launching my own line gave me the freedom to be creative and design for 24

people who love what I do. REDINK: What can we expect next from you? VH: Growth! We are expanding into more stores, we are launching a new spring collection for V Hanley and Genesis & and Luke. We are working on a men's collection as well. We are giving back to the community by doing empowerment seminars and fundraisers for charity. Fashion and beauty is not just about putting a shirt on. It expresses how you feel, and we want our customers to feel beautiful and empowered inside and out. This concludes our interview with Vedeta Hanley.
