FLYGHT

LYGHT - Born Marlon Powell in the parish of St Catherine Jamaica, Flyght was raised by his Grandmother, nurtured in a loving home where music was staple. He knew he was an entertainer from age 5; where he would often dance and deejay for his community, family and friends. Reggae music and the Dancehall excited him and his love for music grew with the rise of dancehall music in the 90s. The beginning was not an easy road for him, he hustled in the streets of Linstead selling snacks in order to make ends meet. He was always an intelligent, enterprising and mature boy, teachers in his high school always encouraged him to stay focused. “Music has always helped me get through trying times of my life.. thru sadness and depression ...music brings me joy.. music has kept me alive.” In 2010 he auditioned for Magnum Kings & Queens a local televised talent show (much like American Idol), the eccentric Deejay known for his greenish bluish hair and tailored suits was turned down seven times but faith and determination saw him being accepted in the final series in 2017 under the name Bluugo. Flyght used his writing ability and lyrical prowess to triumph over several other contenders on the weekly live show; which eventually saw him winning the entire competition as the most voted Magnum King since the start of the Competition. He now holds the title as the last standing Magnum King. Flyght impressed the judges and the public on the show, but equally important he also impressed industry giants like Bounty Killer, Beenie Man and Robert Livingston who dubbed him “a lyrical genius.” After winning the competition Flyght took his career to another level by signing to New Wavez Entertainment, all while he honed his craft recording new songs and performing on shows Island-wide. Being a big advocate of giving back he also took time out to help other artistes write and record several songs of their own. Being the people’s Magnum King he still campaigns in the streets with his music showing appreciation to the thousands who voted for him. Time to Fly Flyght says he is learning more everyday and music is not just about the artiste but it’s about the mechanics the planning and timing of how you market yourself and your music that brings success.“You have to be willing to take risks and be different.”“I have never felt the same excitement doing anything else in my life that recording music or performing gives me. In late 2018 Flyght recorded for the UK’s power team Seani B and Chase & Status, The artist also rolled out several singles including “Who Frighten Dem”, “Gunz work on Shabdon Records ” Cut Off Dem BBC on the New Wavez Entertainment Label. In 2019 he stormed the Dancehall with an edgy track and video titled 10z produced by Jovi Di Pree , the track became catalyst for his industry peers to hear and accepted him as an artiste and 4

not just a competition winner. Flyght followed up with a mammoth single titled ‘BRUKWEH’ that has propelled him further on the road to success. The single also boasts a popular video that is being rotated in Jamaica and as far as Africa and went viral on “World Star Hip-Hop” Flyght describes his sound as distinctive he states “I don’t limit myself to a category in music because music is timeless and evolving, I hate labels.. I want to be remembered as the artiste who showed no fear and the most influential DJ who inspired a wave of sonorous vocalists, craved my own lane and pushed boundaries. Live Nation Ticket Refund Plan for Canceled and Rescheduled Shows

ans who purchased tickets to a canceled Live Nation show at one of the company's venues will have a chance to get a full refund or accept a 150% credit toward a new ticket for a future date and part of a n e w l y announced ticket relief program. The details of how Live Nation plans to refund more than 30,000 canceled or postponed shows were added to the company's website Friday (April 24). While refunds for many postponed festivals and amphitheater shows are available, Live Nation and promoter AEG Presents have not begun the process of offering rebates for arena shows that will be rebooked. For canceled shows, Live Nation with donate 1 ticket to its Hero Nation program for every fan that opts to receive a 150% credit instead of a refund. Hero Nation provides tickets to healthcare workers on the front line in the fight against COVID-19.

DADDY1 orn in 2000 as Adrian Daley of the Salt Spring community in Montego Bay, Daddy1 was the eldest of four children for a single mother. This charismatic young dreamer earned his alias by becoming the next best patriarchal figure in his household, and was dubbed Daddy1 from thenbon. His life story and his ascension to musical prominence, are but the result of the undeniable agency, penchant for leadership and self contained mindset that awarded him his pseudonym in the first place. These qualities in him shined the most in those early days and earned him the respect of childhood friend Bobby Six, younger brother of Dancehall superstar Squash. This friendship led to a fellowship between himself and Squash that eventually grew into a family connection that would persist throughout the years. Daddy1’s desire to do music always remained in his periphery, and when finally given the chance to become a recording artist by fellow music maker, Squash, he did not squander it. Bursting into the scene early 2018 with the hit single Anthem , he engendered that tone of authority in speech at the onset with iconic lyrics like “If yuh nah say 6ix, no girl don't want yuh.” Which was a nod to the name of the group that his family ties with Bobby six and Squash fostered, that featured other upcoming artists like Chronic Law, and producers like Shabdon or Atto. With an outstanding drive and personality, like Daddy1’s the only other missing ingredient from his imminent rise in his early years was the right environment, which the 6ix now provides. Following up his first hit single with songs like Out Here , Next Level, Bro Gad , and Custom which continues to grow in popularity. Through these slew of hit singles Daddy1 was able to capture the minds and hearts of young Jamaica, forging and popularizing slangs like brogad. A slang high became so popular that young people in the country began to campaign for the Prime Minister to change his Twitter handle from the most honorable Prime Minister to most Honorable Brogad. A campaign which found success. In this day and age where youth culture rules, the artist that can become the voice of the youth and the artist that can become the leader of the youth hold the most power. Daddy is charged with both these abilities and they are manifest in the impact of his works for the fairly short time he has been well known. His undeniable flow, lyrical cadence, and keen attention to the sociopolitical landscape of Jamaica and the world, make Daddy1 a creative force to be reckoned with. Never before has a young Jamaican artist with this level of influence in all strata of the country, with this level of agency, access to the wider world, and musical skill, risen to prominence. The prospects for the

young deejay are endless and exciting to say the least as he continues to grow and navigate the growing musical landscape. His ability to spot and make trends comes second only to his ability to weave clever rhymes with simple, catchy, relevant and timely punchlines into coherent hit songs. Often times, ones that are born into this world with such authority in their nature, tend to use it selfishly. Daddy1 however, demonstrated very early, by adopting responsibility, and becoming a role model to his younger sibling who he took care of, and now by extension the entire youth culture; that he is a positive figure to those his influence extends. He acts with thought and concern for those in his care and under his influence, which is a hallmark of sustainable leadership. Aptly dubbed the Trending King, due to his consecutive number of weeks at number one with several hits, Daddy1 is undoubtedly the leader of the youth. His single Rich and EP 1 BroGad; both are testaments to this unique and influential charisma. They will serve as a proper introduction to the world of Daddy1 in a formal context, yet with the cadence and delivery of a raw authentic storytelling experience. The telethon was designed to raise money for frontline workers in Jamaica who need personal protective equipment. Richie's song "Together We Stand" was the theme song for the telethon.

The Limelight Glows a Little Bit

Delroy Washington, age 67. He was a British reggae Pioneer. He was discovered by Bob Marley and became the first UK reggae artist signed to a major label.

Sam Clayton Jr., age 58. He is best known as a member of the 1988 Jamaican Bobsled Team that inspired the movie Cool Runnings. He later gained fame as a reggae music producer and manager working with some of the greats like Horace Andy and Ernest Ranglin

John Prine, age 73. He was a Legendary Folk and Country singer and songwriter. Winner of three Grammys including The Lifetime Achievement Award Grammy which he earned this year at the most recent Grammyâ€™s. Best known for songs like Hello in There, a song that Bette Midler featured in her LP, The Divine Miss M. and the song Thatâ€™s the Way That the World Goes Round which was covered by Miranda Lambert.

Ellis Marsalis, age 85. He was a great Jazz Pianist who also was a renowned Jazz educator, two of his sons went on to became world renowned Jazz Musicians after studying under his tutelage. Grammy winning Wynton Marsalis and Branford Marsalis, and two other sons Delfeayo and Jason also became famous musicians, making Ellis the Patriarch of the most famous musical family in New Orleans.

Joe Diffie, age 61, Grammy Winner and world famous Country Singer, known for these chart topping songs: Pickup Man, John Deere Green, Third Rock From the Sun, and Home.

Alan Merrill, born Allan Preston Sachs, age 69. He was the original cowriter and singer of the song I Love Rock and Roll, with his band The Arrows. That song became one of the most famous rock songs of all time after being performed by Joan Jett, the version we hear on the radio every day. Before that Alan became the first westerner to achieve “popstar” status in Japan in the early 1970’s, even starring in Japanese soap operas and television shows.

Ken Shimura, age 70. He was one of the most famous comedians in Japan for the last 50 years. Best known for skit comedy on Japanese television. Two of his most famous characters were Baka Tonosama (Stupid Lord) and Henna Ojisan (Weird Uncle). He was known in Japan as the “Robin Williams of Japan.”

Mark Blum, age 69. He was an American actor known for his co-starring roles in the movies Desperately Seeking Susan and Crocodile Dundee and also for the television series, You. Blum was in many other Films, televisions shows, and was an esteemed actor on Broadway. He has credits in shows, like Frasier, NYPD Blue and plays like Neil Simon’s Lost in Yonkers.

Patricia Bosworth, age 86. She was a silver screens movie star that costarred with Audrey Hepburn in The Nun’s Story and then went on to become an accomplished author and biographer penning best-selling biographies on Marlon Brando and Jane Fonda. She was also a feature journalist writing articles for The New York Times and New York Magazine.

Steve Dalkowski, aka Dalko, age 80. World renowned, Legendary Baseball Pitcher. He was signed by the Baltimore Orioles but stayed in their minor league AAA team, never making it to the majors, but is known for having the wildest and fastest pitches in the history of the sport. He was the inspiration for the movie Bull Durham. His pitch was so fast that many contend it was faster than Nolan Ryan’s world record, but there were no radar guns at the time he pitched, but the pitches were equally wild, often ending up in the stands.

Tom Dempsey, age 73. He was a Famous American Football Player and Legendary Kicker for the New Orleans Saints. Famous not only for his incredible kicks, which held a world record for the longest field goal from 1970 until 2013, but also for being a rare disabled football player. He was born with no toes on his right foot (his kicking foot) and no fingers on his right hand.

Maria Mercader, age 54. Her face is known to everyone in America , as she was the news anchor for CBS news that covered every major event in the early 2000’s including the death of Princess Diana and The September 11th World Trade Center attacks. She was one of the most recognizable faces in media for over 25 years.

Forrest Compton, age 94. He was an American actor known for his longstanding role as attorney Mike Karr on the Soap Opera The Edge of Night. He was also known for his other iconic role as the stern Lieutenant Colonel Edward Gray on Gomer Pyle, USMC. He is also credited with dozens of roles on famous televisions series like Hogan’s Heroes, The Twilight Zone, 77 Sunset Strip and many other iconic shows from the 1960’s and 1970’s.

Sergio Rossi, age 84. He was a world renowned Italian fashion designer known for his iconic shoes and handbags. His brand was bought by Gucci in 1999 and sold again in 2015, but always retained its own name and unique stylings.

Healthy Eating AT THE HEART OF THE MATTER by Fazia Khan Parmar

hope that all our readers out there are doing well. As many of us are dealing with working from home, schooling from home, and annoying your spouse from home, cooking elaborate meals every day may not be on the agenda. This month I’ve found a very versatile dish that is a general crown pleaser, quick to pull together, and works well whatever vegetables you have on hand. In these new times, it is important to be flexible, multi-functional, and versatile. This recipe has it all. Don’t have broccoli? No problem, use any canned, frozen, or fresh vegetable you have on hand. You can even use only chicken and onions if that is all you have. You can make it full vegetarian by adding some diced tofu. Pair the stir-fry with your favorite rice or noodles and enjoy!

Instructions: 1. In a medium size bowl, whisk together corn starch and water. Add remaining ingredients (chicken broth, soy sauce, honey, and toasted sesame oil, red pepper flakes) and whisk to combine. Set aside. 2. Add one tablespoon of olive oil to a large skillet or wok and heat over medium high heat. 3. Add chicken (in batches if necessary) and season with salt and pepper. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes or until cooked through. Remove from skillet. 4. Reduce heat to medium and add remaining tablespoon of oil to the skillet. 5. Add broccoli, bell pepper, and carrots and cook, stirring occasionally, just until crisp tender. Add ginger and garlic and cook for an additional minute. 6. Add chicken back into the skillet and stir to combine. 7. Whisk stir fry sauce and pour over chicken and vegetables and stir gently to combine. 8. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, and let boil for one minute. 9. Serve with rice and/or chow mein if desired.

RECIPE: Easy Chicken Stir Fry Ingredients: 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast cut into 1 inch cubes salt and pepper to taste 2 tbsp olive oil divided 2 cups broccoli florets 1/2 yellow bell pepper cut into 1 inch pieces 1/2 red bell pepper cut into 1 inch pieces 1/2 cup baby carrots sliced 2 tsp minced ginger 2 garlic cloves minced Stir fry sauce 1 tbsp corn starch 2 tbsp cold water 1/4 cup low sodium chicken broth 3 tbsp low sodium soy sauce 1/4 cup honey 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
