The record’s expansive nature is indebted to the fact it was made between London where Kai Campos resides and Los Angeles where Dom Maker moved in 2016. The duo would travel back and forth to work together, cultivating ideas in intensive sessions. For Maker, putting down roots in a foreign city with its cultural differences and geographical vastness was alienating at first but it gave fresh perspective and inspiration, resulting in a profound new record, displaying a more sophisticated approach to songwriting throughout.

Street Date: 9/15/2017 RCPD015 | RCPDCD015 ‘Resurgam’ is the 6th studio album from the UK singer, songwriter Fink, his follow up to 2014’s ‘Hard Believer’. Produced by Flood (U2, Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey, Warpaint), it’s his most ambitious release to date. The definition of the Latin ‘Resurgam’ means ‘I shall rise again’. On 2014’s ‘Hard Believer’ the band worked with producer Billy Bush, achieving a Top 10 singles success in both Holland and Germany. Between albums, Fin Green Grenall has released various side projects including “Fink Meets The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra” (2013), Horizontalism (2015) and Fink’s Sunday Night Blues Club, Vol. 1 (2017). In 2012, Fink collaborated and performed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the resulting version of Yesterday Was Hard On All of Us, was used in the closing montage of 2014’s seminal, Oscar winning production Selma. Fin Greenall has also written tracks for the William H Macy movie Rudderless, and with John Legends for the 12 Years a Slave soundtrack album. Fin has also produced and co-wrote tracks for others from his basement studio; among them the actor Michael Pitt, and a teenage Amy Winehouse.

After being briefly churned through the major label mill via RCA from 2002-2005, Perfect Pitch Black was Cave In’s return to Hydra Head Records. One could argue that it should have been the band’s offering to the broader audiences offered up by RCA, not because it’s necessarily a better record than its predecessor 2003’s Antennea, but because it taps into both the malevolent riffage of early records like Until Your Heart Stops and the sophisticated songwriting the band had increasingly incorporated since their Creative Eclipses EP. Not only was Perfect Pitch Black a reminder of the Cave In's roots, it also captured a band that was still interested in exploring and more than capable of conquering. Songs like “The World Is In The Way” and “Paranormal” are a perfect combination of erudite indie rock and troglodyte sludge. Where Antennae relied on walls of saturated chords, Perfect Pitch Black allowed the individual instrumental acumen to shine, as is evident on songs like “Off To Ruin” and “Ataraxia”. Beyond the band’s overall development, Perfect Pitch Black is an interesting document of the individual members’ personal evolution. Guitarist/vocalist Steve Brodsky hints at both the solo material he’d begun to pursue on “Down the Drain” and the audacious metal of his future project Mutoid Man with the monsterous rock shuffle of “Trepanning”. Caleb Scofield’s bass takes on the prominent role he’d later incorporate into Zozobra on the lowend-mongering “Droned”. Guitarist Adam McGrath and drummer J.R. Conners hint at the proto-grunge bombast they’d later employ in Nomad Stones on songs like “Screaming In Your Sleep”. As much as Perfect Pitch Black was touted as a return to form for Cave In, hindsight views the album as both excitingly complex and engagingly refreshing. Yes, the metal attributes had returned, but the band was exploring a multitude of new sounds as well. And furthermore, the album is perhaps the most fitting nexus of the stylistic forays taken by the individual members over the years. Hydra Head Records is proud to re-introduce this record with a vinyl reissue in late 2017.

Overview
On his long-anticipated debut album, Lunice approaches his music from every conceivable angle. The Montreal producer’s full-length is titled CCCLX, after all — a name that comes directly from a line on Waka Flocka Flame’s “Fuck This Industry” (“don’t get a 360, that shit ain’t 100”). It’s a title that can be taken several ways. For one, it connotes Lunice’s total individual control of the project. It also indicates Lunice’s vision of the project as something bigger just music — something encompassing visuals, movement, and lifestyle. And, on the simplest level, it’s an indication of how this album will make the listener feel: totally immersed and surrounded.
Anyone who has encountered Lunice live — whether on his own or as part of the duo TNGHT with Hudson Mohawke — will know that his presence is everything. Behind, in front of, and often on top of the riser, he has that rare quality of being a producer who is also a magnetic, fluid performer. His music, too, has that same kinetic fizz. From his debut EP Stacker Upper on LuckyMe in 2010, to “R U Ready” (the first track he and HudMo ever produced together, which eventually made its Format: LP way onto on Kanye West’s 2013 album Yeezus), he’s maintained a distinct Boxlot: 25 style. Coinciding with the label’s 10th anniversary takeover of London’s Southbank Centre, September 8th sees the release of the latest annual compilation Erased Tapes Collection VIII as a highly limited transparent 2-LP set. On February 5th 2017 Erased Tapes opened the doors to their new East London home, marking the 10th anniversary by introducing their fans and the public to the new Erased Tapes Sound Gallery. "Sponsored Content explores this idea of subversive advertisement, at least superficially. It’s obviously about the ubiquity of ads and the commodification of online content. The unlikely placement of ads in the music aims to force the listener to become hyper-aware of being advertised to rather than passively internalizing it. But after the record was finished, it became undeniable that really it wasn’t so much a “concept record” about advertisement; it’s as much about intentionally devaluing the things I’ve invested myself into, and over-complicating my work. August 11th, 2017 Psychedelic Garage Rock - Sweden
Fiery, raw, and raucous, four-piece garage rockers, Baby Jesus, are keeping rock and roll alive and well in their hometown of Halmstad, Sweden, with psychedelic flare, a punk edge, and enough energy to heat up a hearty dinner of Sjömansbiff for 12. Founding members and long time friends. Fredrik Kristoffersson (guitar/vox) and Elis Jäghammar (bass/vox), spent a few years together in various metal and hardcore punk projects. It wasn't until they both moved to Oslo, Norway, in 2011 that they discovered and became infatuated with the 13th Floor Elevators— a legendary mid-sixties rock act from Austin, Texas largely credited with coining the phrase “psychedelic rock.” The Elevators’ music hit Elis and Fredrik like a rock. That experience opened their ears and writing sensibilities to the music of Night Beats, Black Lips, a range of Back From the Grave compilations, and—funny enough—Pugh Rogerfeldt, Träd, gräs och stenar, Philemon Arthur & The dung, and other great Swedish talents who made the rounds on their country’s turntables in the late sixties and early seventies with their wild and often experimental amalgamations of rock, psych, folk, and country music. Channeling these newfound influences, Fredrik and Elis teamed up with Björn Axetorn to start cranking out some songs, culminating in a show in Oslo, followed by a trip to India where the idea for Baby Jesus was born, and a move back to Halmstad where Rasmus Högdin joined in on drums to help explore the project further. The resulting songs were eventually recorded mostly as live takes in their own studio channeling the energy of their hardcore punk days into walls of fuzz, gut-punching surf licks, and piercing organ melodies capturing the fierce and wildly fun rambunctiousness of their sweat-soaked performances across Sweden, France, and other parts of Europe. As a writer at Lo-Pie described it, it was almost, “... as if Billy Childish and Link Wray conceived a demon baby while on honeymoon in Halmstad.” A strange description perhaps, but certainly indicative of their unique take on the garage realm.

Shortly after the release of their 2015 album and tour, as well as a lineup change bringing on Svante Pålsson in place of Björn, the band wanted to move to tape recording for their follow-up album to give the songs they had been writing a deeper and more diverse feel. Finding such equipment in their neck of the woods proved rather difficult, but the solution surprisingly came from a local Halmstad priest, who sold the band an old but functioning Teac 4 track recorder. Tackling both the recorder and tape in their own homemade studio proved tricky, but a highly rewarding strategy for fleshing out their new songs that had taken on a greater range in style, pace, and composition. The result is Baby Jesus’s second and latest offering, “Took Our Sons Away”, out August 11th, 2017 on Yippee Ki Yay Records. Be it the manic howls of “Feel For You”, the pensive melancholy of “Even Though You Look So Good”, or the winsome airiness of “You and I”, Baby Jesus digs beyond the screeching fuzz of their self-titled debut to explore a variety of moods, moments, lyrical themes, and instrumental textures. Simultaneously, it picks up and expands from where they left off with the frat-rock throwback “Do What I Want”, a down-home hoedown in “Down South”, and other upbeat rockers. In addition to the album, the band has August and October dates planned in Sweden, France, and the UK with US dates in the works for March of 2018. Since their inception, CYMBALS line up has been subject to a great deal of change. Amidst that change there has always existed the writing duo of Jack Cleverly and Dan Simons, who formed the band in 2011 with the sole intention of “having fun”. At various points over the last six years and across three albums, an EP and single, a rotating cast of at least ten other people have formed some version of CYMBALS. More still have contributed to Light In Your Mind - Justin Goings and Josh Hefferman both provide drums, while Alabaster DePlume plays saxophone on ‘Fully Automated Luxury’. Producer Kristian Robinson (Capitol K) is a major presence across the album and played a key role in guiding the transition from the band’s sound on their previous record to this one. Jorge Elbrecht, whose work with Ariel Pink and Tamaryn had inspired the band, mixed the record in Miami, adding those elusive final touches. Consequently, the music itself possesses a sedimentary quality, a residue of each contributing member compressed into what it is that band have become. Consistent throughout has been the relationship between Cleverly and Simons. In fact, so consistent is this relationship that despite the involvement of others it wasn’t until everything else was stripped away that the two finally began to be what they first tried to be. Failing relationships, betrayal, addiction, illness: the emotional challenges were huge. Thankfully, they were not insurmountable, and as with so much creative practice, it was through the music itself that a wider understanding of the world was found. ‘Car Crash’ addresses that period head-on, a typically effervescent synth line from Simons disguising lyrical content that traverses that fine line between blind arrogance and tortured self-loathing (“I’m a car crash/I’m a river”). Like all their best songs, it deals in unexpected contrasts. Much the same can be said of the structure of the album as a whole, eclectically comprised of melodically memorable pop songs ('Car Crash', 'Talk To Me'), bucolic instrumentals ('My Body', 'Numbers') and longer, pensive songs that explore the space in between ('ASMR', 'I Thought I Knew You'). As final track ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ concludes, a synth loop first heard on the opening track is subtly re-introduced, completing a circle of sorts. Like decay, the album never really ends. Three volumes of Disco Spectrum were released on BBE between 1999 and 2002, heralding a disco revival that, almost two decades later, just keeps gaining momentum. Known by a plethora of aliases including Jakatta and Akabu as well as Joey Negro, Isle of White native Dave Lee has been at the epicenter of UK dance music since the late 1980s. One of the first British producers to incorporate disco samples into dance music, he took his favourite genre all the way to the top of the charts in the early 90s when he masterminded Take That’s cover version of ‘Relight My Fire’ by Dan Hartman. Never an artist to rest on his laurels, Dave has remained at the top of his game ever since; producing chart hits and underground club tracks alike, touring the world with live disco act The Sunburst Band and running his own label Z Records. The Best Of Disco Spectrum features a wide-ranging collection of floor-fillers including: Rare Pleasure – ‘Let Me Down Easy’ (infamously sampled by David Morales for 90s club smash ‘Needin U’), Ramona Brooks – ‘I Don’t Want You Back’ (revived by Patrick Forge and Sean P on pirate radio in the late 80s), Bunny Mack - 'Let Me Love You' (an early forerunner of today’s popular afro/house sound) and Syreeta 'Can't Shake Your Love' (snappy, bass-led funk from the former Mrs Stevie Wonder, mixed by Larry Levan). “Who would have expected the disco revival to be even stronger now than it was then, though looking down the track-listings of the 3 instalments of Disco Spectrum, most of the songs included on those compilations have since been remixed, sampled, bootlegged, covered, re-edited, re-compiled and re-issued - often on multiple occasions. TIM MISLOCK NOW IS THE LAST BEST TIME “I wanted to create a world that made the listener feel like they were floating,” says Tim Mislock. “But I didn’t want it to feel like floating in an unnatural or forced environment – like a sensory deprivation tank – I wanted it to feel like you were in a boundless, organic space like a lake or an ocean.” This feeling of elemental immersion that Mislock has created is on his debut solo album, Now is the Last Best Time, a guitar-centric ambient record inspired by the Alzheimer’s caretaker experience. Throughout the last decade, Mislock has watched his stepfather deteriorate at the hands of the disease while his mother fulfils the role of caregiver – her love, dedication and energy required evermore as time goes on. The purpose of the concept record was twofold. “I wanted to raise awareness of the disease,” Mislock says. “The numbers of people suffering from Alzheimer’s is growing with each generation. As the parents of those in my generation grow older, Alzheimer’s disease will affect more and
ERA more families. I also wanted to develop a historical document to thank my mother and tell her that her generosity and kindness have not gone unnoticed.” While the album is vastly influenced by the stalwarts of the ambient world – Eno, Stars of the Lid, Eluvium – and some more modern minimalist composers such as Max Richter and Jonny Greenwood, there’s one particular piece of music that connected deeply with Mislock during the process. “The Sinking of the Titanic by Gavin Bryars was a huge influence because it deals with such a tragic event but, musically, it creates an emotional world that is somehow grounded in respect and reverence for the event itself. I wanted to borrow from that idea, since Alzheimer’s impacts so many people. I wanted to be respectful to their struggles and emotions.” Ultimately, the record is a sonic exploration of respect that pays homage to his greatest influence: his mother.

FOR FANS OF: Dinosaur Jr, Pile, Polvo It’s hard to believe that Pardoner is the first time Max Freeland and Trey Flanigan have ever played guitar in a band before. Not only do they seem to have an endless repository of ideas, but they play together like a single unit. Only drummer River van den Berghe has any prior experience, having briefly played in several high school projects before meeting the other members as students at San Francisco State University. A mutual interest in Yo La Tengo and Polvo records sparked their own experiments, and by 2015 they’d started their own band and moved in together, hammering out songs on unplugged electric guitars in their living room. In the two years since then they’ve brought their own version of 90’s alt rock into sharper focus, and made seemingly exponential leaps in songwriting across EP’s. Pausing only briefly from a relentless performance schedule that’s seen the band play several times in the same week, they added Will Mervau on bass and entered the studio to record what would become 2017’s Uncontrollable Salvation. The 45-minute LP pulls no punches, doubling down on the driving intensity of their earlier work and paying homage to heroes and contemporary experimenters alike (one could make a Sonic Youth and a Dinosaur Jr. comparison and both would be apt). However, there’s a simultaneous disaffection and technical prowess that makes the music distinctly ‘Pardoner’, placing them at the curious intersection of slacker-rock and punk, a space where songs are as fun as they are angst-ridden.

Post-minimalist American composer Rafael Anton Irisarri makes his Umor Rex debut with bold new album, The Shameless Years. Inspired by a troubled socio-political climate, buried melodies punch their way through a bleak cover of noisy drones, periodically veering into some of Irisarri’s most eerily pertinent music to date. LP limited edition of 700 copies pressed on red colored vinyl, includes a post card with original artwork and free download coupon. One of Rafael Anton Irisarri’s most thematically and sonically cohesive records to date The Shameless Years came together in a relatively short burst of creativity starting at the end of 2016. Rediscovering some relatively older tools - namely Native Instruments’ Reaktor, Absynth, and Kontakt software - Irisarri combined them with his collection of guitars, pedals, amps, and analogue processing gear, turning his Black Knoll Studio north of NYC into a powerful writing tool. Completed quickly by Irisarri’s standards, let alone during a period of social upheaval in American society, the record faces down several key personal themes. The title, suggests Irisarri, could in fact be seen as a reflection of the era of shamelessness we’re currently living in; a time of fake news and alternative facts. Two tracks were completely remotely between Irisarri in New York and Umor Rex veteran Siavash Amini from his home in Tehran, Iran. This music came together at the peak of all the anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant rhetoric happening in the USA, not to mention the banning of Iranians from entering the country, explains Irisarri. The diptych with Amini, ‘Karma Krama’ and ‘The Faithless’, seems bathed in additional waves of sorrow and dread. The wash of symphonic stormclouds of synth drones and processed notes on the latter gradually appears and disappears over the course of thirteen mournful minutes. ‘Rh Negative’ marches gigantic guitars through towering valleys of scarred ambient noise dealing with Irisarri’s own heritage, many of his ancestors having come to America to escape poverty and oppression. The refusal of modern America to extend similar sanctuary to refugees escaping turmoil weighs heavily on the composer. Elsewhere an emotional onslaught of notes buried in mounds of greyscale noise on ‘Sky Burial’ aims to deal with Irisarri’s very own mortality – something he was recently confronted with following health scares, an accident, and a near-death experience in 2016. Pushing 40 as this album was being made, the composer is constantly aware that he’s already outlived his own father, who died at the age of 32. Facing down both intolerance and the void, the epic soundscapes of The Shameless Years are a vast cry of emotion from Irisarri. Rafael Anton Irisarri’s music is a dual perspective closeup focus on the micro textures of rustling static-filled sonic surfaces with the wide-open distant tree lined horizons of sunset at dusk. Submerged piano melodies, reverberating guitar tonalities and electronic punctuation all contribute as the converging elements, but it’s his hand at electro-acoustic composition that offers the listener the often breathtaking vantage into this sonic world. The combined effect is one of time passing in introspection, remembrances of landscapes and the nature of our relationship with things past as we move toward those yet to come. Plaintively yearning, his music never resigns itself to the stoicism of the melancholic, but is asking, moving, and drawing us into a state of hearing, seeing and recognizing the scale, scope and richness of the natural world and ourselves in the everyday. This music draws as much on modern genre progenitors like Brian Eno, Robin Guthrie and My Bloody Valentine as it does from the more historic traditions in neo-classicism from Erik Satie and Olivier Messiaen. It was six years ago that Labelle left mainland France to settle on the island where his father was born. His new album bears the marks of that new rootedness. The song ‘Babette’, for example, is about one of his ancestors – a slave taken from Mauritius in the 18th century – whose traces Labelle rediscovered when he was working on his family tree. “The deeper I dig into the detail of my culture and my Réunion history, the more it opens me up to the rest of the world,” he explains. “By focussing on the local, you always end up with the global.” Resembling his adopted city, his work is nourished by a unique blend of African (balafon, kora), Indian (bell, percussion) and western (slide-guitar, sampler) instruments. ‘Soul Introspection’ welcomes the famous Indian guitarist Prakash Sontakke, whose slide guitar, at times, seems to transform itself into a sitar. On ‘Grand Maitre’, he performs a meticulous dissection of the Malian kora of Ballaké Sissoko, decanting the instrument note by note into his keyboard so that he can accompany the virtuoso with his own digitalised kora in a vertiginous game of mirrors. If the roots of electro, like those of maloya, go back to slavery and drumming, the two genres also share other aspects: dance, trance, and the instinct t go beyond any standardised framework. “The first inhabitants of Reunion Island invented this music using percussion that came easily to hand. I like to think that if they’d had drum machines, they would have used them too. Everything is up for reinvention…permanently. To limit oneself to a particular set of instruments in order to play maloya would be to deep freeze a musical style that yearns to be endlessly alive; it would be a shame.”

Mana is producer and composer Daniele Mana from Torino in Italy. His debut EP for Hyperdub, 'Creature’, is also the first under his own surname. It’s one of his most vivid, personal and confident releases to date. Since 2010, he has been releasing under the moniker Vaghe Stelle, with EPs and two full length albums on labels such as Gang of Ducks, Aisha Devi's Danse Noire, Astro:Dynamics and most recently, Nicolas Jaar’s Other People records. He is also a member of One Circle with Lorenzo Senni and soundtracks composer Francesco Fantini. On ‘Creature’, over eight tracks, he ingests Shostakovitch, Drexciya, Darkthrone, Frank Ocean and Paul Lansky, and refashions them into an almost operatic record - a rich, melodrama of dark tension and excitable in-your-face synth melodies. In using his own name for the first time, he says he is confronting the unfiltered, “brutal truth” of his self, compressing “tension and anxiety” into a “claustrophobic sense of emotional vacuum.” From the skulking clockwork of 'Crystaline,' the rich drifting ambience of 'Sei Nove', to the panicky, rushy rave stabs meets horror theme of 'Running Man’, it’s lucid, dynamic synth music which uses drums sparingly, but occasionally swirls into little sublime vortices of arpeggiated hyperrhythm. ARTIST PROFILE: If love is a bright sound comprised of major chords, loosened by reverb and a laid back beat, then it’s appropriate that Choir Vandals’s debut full-length explores the subject throughout its twelve bright, easy songs. Its title, Dark Glow, suits it, too, but not because of its luminous connotations. Instead, the oxymoron fits along with what it implies about love. It’s the songs on Dark Glow, the music and melodies that feel so bright. “Hard to Hold” is among the brightest, with its gem-like chords and drumbeat like boulders tumbling down a mountain. Singer and guitarist Austin McCutchen contributes his dazed voice to the display—slurs his words, bends his voice, flips into a falsetto—adding serenity to an already lazy summer song. Of course, as the album’s title implies, just because these are bright love songs doesn’t mean that there aren’t some shadows, too. The title Dark Glow is taken from the song “Head in the Oven,” another shimmering, spinning song; though its music expresses love’s brightness, the lyrics paint a more conflicted picture: “Dizzy when the feeling’s right,” McCutchen croons, “tripped up and tried to dance in perfect time / got lost inside the record player’s mind, spinning around with no cover design.” Love may be a bright sound, but Dark Glow reminds us to listen to what it’s really saying—to not be distracted by mere beauty, to heed its obvious advice. To hit play on D33J's long-awaited debut album is to tumble headlong into a rich sonic universe of captivating improbabilities. Where narcotic house music slow-pulses alongside deconstructed future R&B and lush ambient dreamscapes. Where an astoundingly 3-D depth of field somehow radiates with incredible intimacy. Where digital means of production are often usurped by guitar play, analog synth, field recording, or tape edit. Where experimentalism and accessibility aren't the least bit mutually exclusive. Perhaps that's why the taste-making Los Angeles producer and DJ named the project after a thing that doesn't, shouldn't, and couldn't exist: Death Valley Oasis. We'd expect nothing less from D33J, who picks up plaudits whether he's rocking a sweaty Boiler Room show with his Wedidit crewmates, producing blissed out rap tracks for Lil Yachty's albums and mixtapes, or composing solo songs that instantly immerse us in an ever-shifting grid of odd rhythms and melodies. Two EPs — 2011's Tide Songs, in time eventually remastered by Brainfeeder steady Mathewdavid, and 2013's Gravel — plus a run of unpredictable mostly unauthorized R3MIX3S (Drake, Taylor Swift, Brandy, Sigur Rós) heralded the arrival, four years later, of this fully realized work. Death Valley Oasis contains no filler but there are standout moments: like Anticon label mate and Dirty Projectors alum Angel Deradoorian channelling her inner Destiny's Child on the jittery "Spark", or D33J taking a rare turn on the mic to wax druggily romantic on "Plateau," or the eerie Burial-like gloom-bomb that is "Dead Sea," or "Rot," a teamup with Wedidit star Shlohmo (who also provides this album's artwork) and DJ Khaled-approved singer Corbin (f.k.a.
