a few vinyl LP’s & some downloads, having fun and not losing too much money. Now we have to run a business and make sure that we’re meeting goals, spending wisely, and servicing artist teams efficiently. The script has flipped but we still try to find a little fun in it.
We know you can’t choose, but what’s been your favorite label release, and why?
Jamie Strong: I plead the 5th. They’re all quite special & unique in their own ways, but one common recent theme relates to BADBADNOTGOOD as they produced Jonah Yano’s new album (portrait of a dog) & we were quite fortunate to release the debut solo album (Anyhow) from BBNG member Leland Whitty.
What’s the wildest marketing promotion you’ve ever worked on for any release?

How did you personally get started in the music industry?
Jamie started at Ubiquity Records; Nate started in music supervision at Sony Pictures Television. We met each other when we both started working at Stones Throw Records around the same time in 2005.
When and where did the label begin?
Jamie was doing sales and marketing at Stones Throw. Nate was doing digital sales/synch licensing there and had started a little offshoot called Innovative Leisure to do some small one-off projects. We started taking it more seriously when we started on Hanni El Khatib’s Will The Guns Come Out LP and all partnered together to start signing some bigger releases (Nick Waterhouse, Rhye, Allah-Las, Nosaj Thing, etc). We left Stones Throw, maxed out our credit cards and started working from Nate’s kitchen table.
What is the meaning behind the name for the label?
It’s a maxim yanked from an old toy manual Nate had as a kid.
How has the label changed since it started?
The business side of things may have changed due to the world of streaming, but the overall ethos of the label is still the same - we put out music that we like regardless of the genre or scale of an artist.
Describe the general makeup of your team at the label.
Jamie Strong: There’s a core team internally where Nate Nelson & I are pretty hands-on with every project alongside our EU Team (Positive Subversion) & bespoke promo teams.
What has been the biggest challenge for you and the label during the Pandemic?
Touring has been the biggest challenge & the changing landscape for developing artists in the venue & booking agency space.
Is the label tied to a specific geographical area? How is this reflected in your releases?
Since we are based in LA, there’s an abundance of talented artists on the West Coast so we have quite a lot of California based artists, but at the same time, good music exists everywhere so we have artists from Canada to England & Thailand to The Netherlands.
Where do you go to search for new music? Who or what has been a new find you’d like to rave about?
We don’t “go” anywhere as much as we listen to things that are sent to us. Typically we’re signing things that are brought to us or by us by friends and associates that we’ve had over the years. Lots of good things coming down the pike like UK grime rapper Rarelyalways, more great music from LA’s Mapache & a new Brazilian act called dadáJoãozinho.
Is there a genre that you would consider to be the label’s “signature style,” or is it a mix?
Definitely a mix. We like all types of music so we tend to not be tied down to a genre or style.
How would you describe your overall ambitions and goals as a label from when you first started compared to now?
When we started there was no real ambition outside of (hopefully) selling
If you had the budget, what would be your dream “outside-thebox” or “crossover” marketing campaign?
Can’t give up our secret sauce for someone else to do first. ; )
Forget about the vinyl boom - how are you and your label responding to the ever-increasing popularity of cassette tapes? CDs??
If there’s demand, we’ll make whatever format a fan wants! i.e. The BADBADNOTGOOD floppy disk sells for $50 on Discogs.
How would you describe the average fan of the label?
Our roster is so diverse so I’m not sure that’s possible to describe, but I think one commonality is an openness to all types of sounds.
Before working at the label did you have any experience playing in bands or making music of your own?
Yeah Nate has always tried to dabble in bands since his high school days (check out WeBreakCameras & Death Boner!!) and Jamie DJ’s and runs a successful party outside of Innovative Leisure called the Do-Over.
In your opinion, how important is it to be environmentally sustainable within the music industry these days?
It can be difficult to achieve sometimes depending on the project / art / packaging, but it is something we continue to monitor & look for ways to integrate these practices when the opportunity presents itself. How important are issues like mental health and social justice to you and the label?
Extremely important. We’ve had artists that have dealt with both issues & our job as a good partner goes well beyond the business side of things, where it’s important to listen & offer support to our artists however we can. What in your opinion has been the biggest change in the music industry from when you first started compared to now?
I think what keeps the music industry stagnant is too much of a focus on how things used to be vs focusing on the present & future. You can’t change how people consume music so it’s either adapt & embrace it or time to hang up the shoes.
If you had to start a new sub-label, what would it be called and what kind of music would it be geared towards?
The idea of a reissue side to Innovative Leisure has always been intriguing so maybe Innovative Reissue will come to fruition one day. ; )

They say our sun will explode in about 5 billion years or so- how would you like the label to be remembered?
That we were consistent over the label’s history putting out the highest quality of music, no matter the genre, if you saw the logo you knew it was something you could trust.

For more than two decades, the disciple that has most visibly carried on Sun Ra Arkestra’s legacy and sound is their musical director, alto saxophonist Marshall Allen, the iconic fire breather and life force that restored the Arkestra’s vitality in the massive vacuum left by Ra and John Gilmore’s death in the ‘90s. Allen turned 98 in 2022 and, as evidenced by Living Sky, his influence and leadership remain undiminished. Marking the Arkestra’s first new recording since their 2021 Grammy-nominated album Swirling, Living Sky was recorded on June 15, 2021 at Rittenhouse SoundWorks in Philadelphia and features a total of twenty musicians, including a strings section. Spiby is probably most well known for being the leader of Black Spiders - renowned for the face melting rock n roll and unmatchable swagger. Please welcome, ladies and gentlemen, Failed Magician. It's the title of Spiby ’s new solo release. There comes a time in a man’s life when the blues become mandatory listening and this in turn has informed his new songs. “ I have sorrow in my pocket and exorcising the ghosts is a way out of the darkness, ” he says. “There were a lot of deaths in rock during 2017 that made me think about mortality, depression and life. There's a thread that goes through all of this and it ’s basically a collection of domestic blues songs, sometimes seen from both sides of the story. “Sabbath and Zeppelin have a lot to answer for, as I guess do the Beatles and the Stones, for embedding that feeling and influence into their music, ” he continues. “Everyone that has since been influenced by them, directly or indirectly. Spiby called upon fans to fund his solo outing via Pledgemusic and smashed his goal to bits. “That’s when shit got real, as they say, ” explains Spiby. “I had a bit of a panic on, getting the songs together and finished; things started to take more of a shape I liked and could sort of understand. It star ted out so simple and I made it really complicated for myself and recorded 30 odd songs. ” For his next trick, he assembled a crack team to help bring his ideas to life in the studio with Matt Ellis at the production console. “It’s quite a mixed bunch of losers really,” he says. “. “If it’s the last thing I ever get to do, recording wise, I ’ll die a very happy man,” says Spiby of his solo debut.

“I’m obsessed with failure,” says Brian Dunne. “It’s so much more interesting to me than success, so much more honest and human.”
Truth be told, we all feel like failures on some level, like frauds and freaks and fuckups just waiting to be found out. Enter: Loser On The Ropes, Dunne’s entrancing new album and debut release for the storied Kill Rock Stars label. Recorded in Athens, GA, with producer Drew Vandenberg (Faye Webster, Of Montreal), the collection explores defeat and denial, fortune and faith, shame and redemption, all set against the backdrop of a world run by blowhards and bullshitters who manage to perpetually skate by without cost or consequence. Dunne may be a singer/songwriter in the purely technical sense of the term, but he shares more in common on this album with the punks and new wave weirdos who turned up in lower Manhattan and the outer boroughs in the ’70s and ’80s, DIY misfits who came to crash the party and ended up building their own scene instead. That’s not to say Loser On The Ropes is a punk album—in fact, it might be the most beautiful and melodic record Dunne’s ever made—but rather that the songs are lean and gritty, sick of mincing words and insistent on cutting straight to the heart of things with a raw, understated poeticism. The arrangements are similarly unsettled, drifting in and out of focus as they glow with the after-hours sheen of a city street on a rainy night. While it would be easy to get lost in the darkness of it all, Loser On The Ropes instead emerges as something much more resilient and exhilarating, as a celebration of the down-and-out, of the punch-drunk fighter in each of us who heads back into the ring with a bloody nose and a crooked smile, hungry for another round because it sure as hell beats giving up.

Since his first offerings began making the Internet rounds in 2009, Toro y Moi has proven himself to be not just a prolific musician, but a diverse one as well, letting each successive release broaden the scope of his oeuvre. Amassing nearly 150,000 copies sold, Toro y Moi’s third full-length album, Anything in Return, sees Chaz Bear blending funk, psych-pop and colorful, glitchy electronic sampling, locking in his unique sound that would push him to the forefront of alternative and chillwave music in the 2010s. To celebrate its 10-year anniversary, Anything in Return will be released for the first time on picture disc — hitting record stores and the Carpark Records shop on April 14th, 2023.
But the product of a move he made almost a decade ago, from South Carolina to Berkeley, CA and the subsequent extended separation from loved ones, is what put Anything in Return right in the middle of the producer/songwriter dichotomy that his first two albums established. There’s a pervasive sense of peace with Bundick’s tendency to dabble in both sides of the modern music-making spectrum, and he sounds comfortable engaging in intuitive pop production and putting forth the impression of unmediated id. The producer’s hand is prominent — not least in the sampled “yeah”s and “uh”s that give the album a hip-hop-indebted confidence — and many of the songs feature the 4/4 beats and deftly employed effects usually associated with house music. Tracks like “High Living” and “Day One” show a considerably Californian influence, their languid funk redolent of a West Coast temperament, and elsewhere — not least on lead single, “So Many Details” — the record plays with darker atmospheres than we’re used to hearing from Toro y Moi. Sounding quite assured in what some may call this songwriter’s return to producerhood, Anything in Return is Bear uninhibited by issues of genre, an album that feels like the artist’s essence.
Since his earlier releases, Toro y Moi has continued to make big waves across the music landscape — headlining international tours in the US, Europe, and Asia, producing tracks for major artists like SZA, performing on national television shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Ellen Show, joining festival lineups like Coachella and Fuji Rock, and much more.

Elijah Kessler was just a teenager when the first sessions for what would eventually turn into LIGHTSPEED took place. In some ways, he had begun developing his distinct style of melodic rap from the time he was a kid. But it wasn’t until he began working with Instupendo during his high school years that he began releasing music publicly. At the time, that meant uploading songs to Soundcloud from his boarding school dorm room. The first real turning point in Elijah’s career happened when one of these songs caught the ear of Chaz Bear of Toro y Moi, and the two struck up a correspondence. A trip to California and a feature on Toro y Moi’s Soul Trash mixtape quickly followed, and the collaboration was up and running.
With the idea of an album planted in his head, Elijah set up a new makeshift studio in his basement. He got into a rhythm of quickly recording demos and sending them off to Bear, who would refine and transform them through his own filter until they became something entirely new. The two collaborators found themselves propelled forward by their own excitement, as the whole proved to be greater than the sum of its parts. A distinct sound was emerging, that blended Elijah’s immediacy and knack for melody with Bear’s sonic palette. Over the next several years, the project continued to grow as notable producers Nosaj Thing and Instupendo became involved in the project. In person sessions between Miami, New York, and San Francisco followed, and the album began to take shape.
One of Elijah’s important early influences was the online community of relatively obscure and lofi “Soundcloud Rap”. But he notably cites movie soundtracks as an equally important influence. As he says, “What I like about soundtracks is the worldbuilding element. Even though what I do is completely different, in a way that inspired me to reach for my own aspirations.”
After moving to Miami and settling into life as a college student, Elijah found that his life was providing him with plenty of opportunities to say what he was feeling. As someone who had been writing rhymes about his own life since the age of ten, the everyday struggles of these years were particularly inspiring. During this time, amidst the backdrop of an isolating pandemic, Elijah could only watch as laughter and emotion amongst his cohort were replaced by a pharmaceutically driven monotone. His reflection on this shift in his world, “BENZO”, hides its dark subject matter in a super upbeat and catchy melody. On “SINGING AND DRINKING”, Kessler confronts his own complicated feelings of guilt surrounding alcohol abuse. Throughout all of this work, we hear a voice oscillating between supreme confidence and humbling insecurity, a theme that’s made explicit on the tracks “LIGHTSPEED” and “ZEISS (ft. Toro y Moi).”
Having been started as flashes of inspiration captured on sock mics in a basement, and subsequently refined by several notable producers, LIGHTSPEED is at once both raw and refined; both immediate and considered. The resulting sonic complexities are the perfect reflection of the content contained therein–the tumultuous process of a young man coming into his own, and an artist finding his voice.

Formed in 1980 by guitar prodigy Leonardo Vela Rodriguez, Sonido Verde de Moyobamba created some of the hardest, craziest Cumbia to emerge from the Peruvian jungle. With distorted, surf-addled guitar facing off against lysergic organ and hyperactive tropical rhythms, Sonido Verde conjured the organic sound of the dense forests surrounding their hometown while riding their dance-party grooves to dizzying psychedelic peaks.
Compiled by Analog Africa, Sonido Verde de Moyobamba presents eight ultra-rare tracks of guitar and organ madness drawn from the band’s five albums recorded for Discos Universal between 1981 and 1987. OVERVIEW:
Following on from Soundway’s 2022 compilation, Padang Moonrise, are two late 1960s tracks from Java, Indonesia. one instrumental psychedelic organ version of Classic Indonesian track ‘Bubuj Bulan’ and the other a raw funk cut sung in Arabic.
Rully Djohan recorded this unique, psychedelic instrumental version of Benny Corda’s classic ‘Bubuj Bulan’ for his album of instrumental organ versions of popular Indonesian songs recorded in 1971-72. With echoes of Indian, Ethiopian and Egyptian jazz melded with traditional Javanese music this version is a shimmering, dubbed-out take on a song that has been recorded by many Indonesian vocalists. Djohan is backed by The Galaxies Band, and led by one of Indonesia’s most original band leaders and arrangers Jopie Item, who also plays sitar and guitar alongside Djohan’s electric organ.
On the flip-side, Munif Bahasuan delivers a deep funk track sung in Arabic. Munif was a Jakarta-based vocalist who sung mostly in Arabic and English. Jakarta has a small population of Arabic, ethnically Middle Eastern people who settled in Indonesia via connections with Islam and Islamic culture, the dominant religion in Java, Sumatra and many other of the main islands in the Indonesian archipelago.

Once you have set the needle down on the record and heard for yourself the intimacies and impressionism, abstraction and unfiltered emotion found in The Forest In Me, Xylouris White’s fifth album release (and first since 2019’s The Sisypheans), you may wonder what was the mood of the room in which this music came to be. Only three people can say for sure, and even then
guy picciotto: In late 2019, we had begun taking steps to working on new material. In a haphazard fashion, Jim and I started tracking drums in my basement, cutting them up into shapes with no set landing in mind. Some of it we sent to Giorgos in Crete – he responded with his lyra and his lute. Without intention we had initiated a process that would soon become more ruthlessly mandated by the world events that separated and isolated us to three corners of the globe in the following year.
giorgos xylouris: Every harmonic is a fallen tree trunk that I climb over. I’m stepping in muddy waters in the woods or coming to a clearing – that is part of the journey I take whether I am playing music with an audience or recording alone. It’s a journey around the forest of my inner self. That’s how I see it.
jim white: I ended up in the pandemic in rural Australia on care duty and then back in Melbourne alone in a house with an imminent, ultimately very long lock down.
giorgos: The past several years created a very particular situation that none of us had ever lived through, in such seclusion in our homes and within ourselves. In the isolation I found other wrinkles/folds in my inner being. That helped create this music, as did the unusual way we went about recording.
jim: The night before the curfew I acquired some mics from a studio and bought an interface. And learnt to record. And

giorgos: So every note, every phrase, every instrument came from in and around our inner forests.
guy: On previous projects our customary way of working was to be in one room all together; an inward facing triangle of instant communication leading to marathon sessions from which we would build an archive from which to sculpt the records, finding the binding lines that connected the statements we were trying to make.
giorgos: Using whatever instruments I had with me in the studio at home, in the silence I discovered things I hadn’t had the peace to uncover previously. I saw that music isn’t static, moving only in its usual ways within the parameters of its centrifugal force – it can move a long way further in other directions.
guy: With this record we still had that stash to draw from but now we were also adding material composed from this enforced new geometry; this different, wider triangle where we each assumed different roles than we had previously with writing, engineering, arranging all mixed up like finger paints.
giorgos: While we were recording, I noticed that the music had a certain solitude about it, both from the title and from inside. That led us to find more music from within that we had not yet discovered.
jim: The idea emerged, naturally nourished and nourishing a record with none of our usual angles and themes, no verbal language, no angst nor sudden dynamics, a more subtle structure. And we found The Forest In Me.

Everything clicks on Safe to Run, the fourth album from singer, songwriter Esther Rose. It’s the quiet culmination of years spent fully immersed in a developing artistry, and presents Rose’s always vividly detailed emotional scenes with new levels of clarity and control. As with previous work, her songwriting transfigures the chaos and uncertainty of a life in progress, but here she introduces a newfound pop element that attaches unshakably catchy hooks to even the darkest stretches of the journey
Rose takes an unblinking look at her own vulnerabilities as well as more universal concerns, somehow never taking herself too seriously in the process. This manifests as a critique of the insidious sexism of the music industry on “Dream Girl,” but quickly melts into a hazy memoryscape of the dive bar drama and suspended hovering of her early 20s on “Chet Baker.” The song “Safe to Run” (a gorgeous duet with Hurray for the Riff Raff’s Alynda Segarra) directly merges the personal with the global, superimposing feelings of spiritual displacement onto the larger, looming dread of climate grief. Rose breathes in the ecstasy of the natural world in one line and makes fun of herself a few bars later. There are ghosts in the room for most of her songs, but she’s invited them in and is cracking jokes with them over a drink or two.
Ultimately all of these new advancements become twinkles of light in the background as they fold into the big picture impact of the songs themselves. Esther Rose translates her world into eleven curious and captivating scenes. While the songs are stunning one by one, absorbing Safe to Run as a whole feels like witnessing something taking shape, experiencing the headspins of the elevation and the slow return to equilibrium as the clouds start clearing.

On Garden Party, Rose City Band’s country psychedelic rock evokes the wide-open spaces of the American west and free spirits who call it home. Lead by acclaimed guitarist and vocalist Ripley Johnson, Rose City Band are some of the best players in contemporary rock: pedal steel guitarist Barry Walker, keyboardist Paul Hasenberg, bassist Dewey Mahood (aka Plankton Wat), drummer Dustin Dybvig, and features Sanae Yamada of Moon Duo on Synthesizer. At its inception Rose City Band focused on what songwriter Johnson calls “porch music”. Recorded largely at Center for Sound, Light, and Color Therapy in Portland and mixed by John McEntire, Garden Party features guest appearances by Moon Duo bandmates John Jeffrey on drums and Sanae Yamada on synths, as well as Rose City Band live performers Hasenberg on keyboards and Walker on pedal steel. With the musicians in his life in mind, Ripley’s porch has opened up for each player to step into. Despite being tracked primarily as a solo endeavor the recordings capture the twists and bends of a fully realized ensemble, and in a nod to bands such as the Grateful Dead it doesn’t stop there. “The songs won’t really be finished until we play them on the road,” says Johnson. Like all great music, Garden Party taps into the listener’s emotional center and takes them to their happy place – their sunny spot. The album is an invitation to recalibrate, a joyous ride where the band’s sounds surround and embrace you. Ripley says it best: “I always like when an album starts in one place, and ends in another” What a beautiful journey it is.

Grönland is proud to announce the reissue of Wandermüde on CD and, for the first time, vinyl. Both versions include one previously unreleased bonus track. The 2LP is pressed on crystal clear vinyl. This 2023 edition was mastered by Stephan Mathieu from the original recordings. Mathieu first collaborated with Sylvian at 2011’s Punkt festival in Kristiansand, Norway, when he performed a live remix of Sylvian / Czukay’s ambient classic Plight and Premonition . “I’ve lived with Stephan’s work for many years,” says Sylvian. “After hearing his remix at Punkt I decided he’d be the right person to take an alternate approach to the Blemish files.”

A startling break from Sylvian’s previous work, Blemish is pensive and spare, wrapping a lyrical raw nerve in extended, drone-like song structures. Recorded in a relatively quick six week burst, Blemish was “cathartic” for Sylvian. An earlier remix album, 2005’s The Good Son vs. The Only Daughter, took the material in varied and lusher directions, but Wandermüde puts it under a microscope. The catharsis of the original is tested and reinvigorated by Mathieu’s treatment, which he performs in real time.

A guest from Blemish also makes a return appearance on this album. Guitarist and electronics artist Christian Fennesz contributes to “Deceleration,”. “‘Fire in the Forest,’ just as its sister ‘Transit’ on Fennesz’ Venice album are to me perfect models for what a 21st century song can be,” says Mathieu. “Since he had only a couple of days to work on this, he came up with this rough and very beautiful recording of his guitar playing in the last moment. It was love at first sight for me.”
Wandermüde is exquisitely planned but executed in real time, drawn from old pains but breathing with new life. The title of the album – “tired of wandering” – implies a fatigue, a resignation, and an end; but the music itself crackles with suspense and anticipation, marking a moment of reflection before a journey begins.

In 1998, New West Records was in its infancy. The label had only released a handful of records before becoming fortunate enough to work with Shaver, a duo consisting of Billy Joe Shaver and his son, Eddy Shaver. The guitar virtuoso son and the outlaw-country hit-songwriter formed an incredible pair that would go on to release 6 critically acclaimed albums.
Shaver had released three full length albums before signing to New West Records. Their fourth album, Victory, was released in 1998 and helped put the label on the map. The spiritual and almost confessional nature of the record combined with startling vocal performances helped put Billy Joe Shaver front and center again as well.
In 1999 the duo released Electric Shaver and the title says it all. Billy Joe had made a career out of playing acoustic country songs but with Electric Shaver, he and Eddy plugged in and delivered an outlaw country record with blues licks and rock solos.
The duo’s final release came in April of 2001, not long after the untimely passing of Eddy Shaver. Billy Joe and Eddy had written and recorded The Earth Rolls On before Eddy’s death on December 30, 2000. The record is widely considered some of Billy Joe’s most powerful songwriting and some of Eddy’s most inspired guitar playing. The record features Ken Coomer and Jay Bennet of Wilco as well as Gary Tallent from the E Street Band.
In celebration of 25 years working with this amazing catalog, New West Records is proud to release all three records on vinyl for the first time. Each record is pressed on one specific color of vinyl. These are one-time color pressings. These will not be pressed again. Each record is packaged in a colored foil paper sleeve with foil stamped sequential numbering 0001-2000. Each record is limited to 2000 copies.

L.A.'s De Lux are a post-disco dance-punk DIY duo that sound like they could have come out of 1979 or 1982 just as easily as today. Founders and multi-instrumentalists Sean Guerin and Isaac Franco didn’t meet so much as simply appear to each other, sometime before high school ended and after learning to correctly fall off skateboards began. Even at age 18, however, it was the kind of connection that had been years in the making. Sean had been writing songs since he was 15 and had spent recent years recording and re-recording his own songs. And Isaac had been on a strict diet of classic and obscure disco and boogie music since he too was 15, figuring out the original source of hip-hop’s greatest samples thanks to an older brother with a DJ sideline and an enviable collection. They both were after the same thing in music—the groove, they say, where the bass and the beat align in a perfect way that makes you want a song to go on forever.
Ten years on from their well-received debut album, Voyage, the band now has four full length releases under their belt, including 2022's Do You Need A Release? "Love Is Hard Work" is a continuous 29 minute recording and something that Sean Guering from De Lux has been wanting to make for a while. According to Guering: "Before De Lux, I used to write long songs, but never really finish them. Written and recorded in mid 2021 for two months, it felt like a breeze to make 'Love Is Hard Work' because I had been thinking and talking about it for so long. Influenced by a lot of artists from ‘79-‘82, like Peter Gordon, Electric Mind, Evans Pyramid or Dizzy K, the track is intended to feel like a continuous flow of dance music. Instead of a stream of consciousness in lyricism, this is more of a stream of consciousness in instrumentation and songwriting; where ideas flow from one to the other without too much thought."

Dan Tyler and Conrad McDonnell, aka Idjut Boys, are an English duo whose dub-heavy home songs incorporate their playful love of life. The duo met in the late '80s in Cambridge discovering that they shared a passion for similar music. Soon after, both moved to London and established the U-Star parties. The Idjuts' fusion of dub, house, and techno soon caught on and landed them gigs DJing all over the world.
McDonnell and Tyler established U-Star Records in 1993, releasing their debut 12" Idjut Boy. They continued releasing numerous 12"s throughout the 90's up to the current period consisting of original productions, along with remixes & re-edits of obscure and not-so-obscure material by other artists and a handful of DJ mixes. A proper Idjut Boys studio album, Cellar Door, was released on Smalltown Supersound in 2012. This was followed by Versions, an album of reworks of material from throughout the duo's career, in 2015.
On this 12" vinyl, the Idjuts remix a single, "What's Life" from De Lux's most recent Do You Need A Release.

The title of Ital Tek's seventh album "Timeproof" reflects what Alan Myson has observed and learned whilst making the album.
Firstly, how distorted the perception of time is in the creative headspace - being in the studio creates a timeless environment, one's mind starts wandering and the perception of time is altered. Secondly, the bizarre effect of the last few years of lockdown have somehow infected the title, temporarily contracting our collective notion of time. And thirdly, Alan has learnt how spending time away from the studio can be as effective as being there, giving one space to process. Appreciating the power of being out in nature, putting other things into perspective, refreshing one's ability to approach work with both patience and creativity.

Overall "Timeproof" feels more introspective than Alan's last album "Outland". Perhaps because of the time in which it was created or this new relationship to the creative process. The sounds and textures of the record hint at brutality and menace whilst also pulsing and evolving softly with a more refined interior life. It's expansive and elegant, neatly balanced between light and dark, more mossy and dreamy than the extremes of "Outland".
When making the album, Alan spent about a year or so working quickly and intuitively, churning out ideas, sketches and sound experiments without any attempt to finish or perfect anything.
“I let it settle until I was ready to return to this body of raw material with fresh ears some months later, sometimes barely remembering what or how I’d done much of it."
Over the course of another year he dived into the details, rendering all of this rough material and sound into something with form. Alan also visited older material and ideas, trying out, reworking and sampling, building it into this new body. The finished album feels open, with a gentle intuition that feels as if it's guiding you through.
