New, Limited-Edition Color Vinyl for the Re-issues on Artist-Run Label Nude Club BOY HARSHER is a dark electronic duo that produces gritty dance beats infused with ethereal vocals, creating a sound that is eerie, intense and incredibly danceable. Augustus Muller develops the underbelly of sound with minimal beats and grinding synths, where Jae Matthews whispers, screams and chants on top. Together, the music created is somewhere between industrial, drone and confessional storytelling. Muller and Matthews both have a strong background in film and their cinematic approach translates effectively in both their recordings and live performance, where the band have steadily been creating a loyal following.
Lesser Man (Extended Version) February 1, 2019 Genre: Electronic Lesser Man (Extended Version) is the first release of Boy Harsher`s imprint, Nude Club Records, originally released on cassette by Soft Science in (2014), and Night People (2015). The album was reissued by the infamous Berlin goth label aufnahme + wiedergabe in Nov 2017 on 500 copies, and sold out in less than two weeks. Remastered by Thomas P. Heckmann at Trope Mastering, Lesser Man (Extended Version) includes the dark wave hit, “Pain” and the unreleased track “Run” which was recorded during the Lesser Man session.

Dyan's voice has the earnest zeal of a young Grace Slick, and the complex arrangements run the table from acid-soaked tripsichord to fiery anthems meant to spur on a new generation of street-fighting men as well as lonely navigators of the mind. Not surprisingly, Dyan reveals that some of this amazing material was inspired by seeing Quicksilver Messenger Service for the first time. "They were always my favorite group," she says. It just goes to show what you can soak up and give back to the world if your heart is in the right place.

After adding additional guitarist Mike LP 5127 Herron, they traveled to UPC: 090771512710 London's Sound Techniques Cut by Kevin Gray & pressed at RTI! Studio in May 1966 to record their self-titled debut album with Boyd producing. Incredibly, they completed recording in two days, with Boyd instructing them to focus on their original compositions. The resulting album, featuring only three traditional tunes among the sixteen tracks, was quite unorthodox despite its standard instrumentation of guitars, mandolin, banjo and fiddle. It was a pioneering example of what later became know as psychedelic folk or pysch-folk and it was an instant hit with adventurous music consumers. Bob Dylan singled out Robin Williamson's "October Song" as a particular favorite and the LP won "Folk Album of the Year" in the annual Melody Maker poll. Despite the accolades, the group broke up immediately after the album's release. Heron and Williams later reunited, but this LP is the sole document of the groundbreaking original trio. How fitting, then, that Sundazed Music has preserved this piece modern music history on resonant high definition vinyl, sourcing it from the original Elektra analog tapes. distinctive story that unfolded into a resonant narrative; a richly layered affair filled with curveballs and a wealth of adventurous ideas that Vynehall pulled off with confidence and style. It’s the same story with his DJs sets, and particularly this DJ-Kicks mix, which goes from 79-169bpm in fluid fashion. Always interesting and distinctly diverse both in genre and tempo, the mix works in a range of settings, as was the artist’s aim. “I wanted to approach this more like a compilation than a stand-alone ‘mix,’” he says. “To me, compiling a DJ-Kicks is a significant statement of intent and representation, so with that in mind, I thought more about the selection than the mix. On Elephantine, his new Northern Spy album, Cairo-based Maurice Louca guides a 12-piece ensemble through a 38-minute masterwork that might best be described as panoramic. Elements of free improvisation, Sun Ra’s cosmic jazz, gorgeous Arabic melody, trancelike African and Yemeni music and minimalism meet in his wholly unique compositional vision. Louca also makes vital contributions on guitar and piano, and inspires stirring performances from a global lineup.

Simply put, Elephantine—which Louca calls “by far my most ambitious work”— would stand as a grand achievement for any musician, of any background. But for an artist hailing from Egypt, where the history of expression has been equally brilliant and daunting, the album is astounding. In recent years, Louca has become something of an ambassador for his nation’s thriving experimental music scene, via two previous solo records and an evolving lineup of genre-defying collaborations. The Wire called his 2014 sophomore effort, Salute the Parrot, “remarkable music—dense, driven and splashed with colour.” In 2017, the selftitled debut by Lekhfa, the trio of Louca and vocalists Maryam Saleh and Tamer Abu Ghazaleh, was praised as an “edgy triumph” in The Guardian. This past July, Louca appeared again in The Wire, in a cover story on “Cairo’s new wave” that featured his solo work as well as the Dwarfs of East Agouza, his mesmeric unit with Sam Shalabi and Sun City Girls’ Alan Bishop. Louca’s narrative begins with music we all know, albeit in circumstances that most of us can’t imagine. Born in Cairo in 1982, he started on guitar at age 12, and became immersed in the music of the MTV era, as well as such 60s psychedelic mainstays as Pink Floyd, Hendrix, and the Doors. These were preInternet years in a country with staterun media, so access was scarce; tapes were dubbed and traded at school, along with bits and pieces of information. By the mid-to-late-’90s, spurred on by a media panic that connected metal fans to Satanic ritual, the state had essentially outlawed live rock music. Louca, just in his early teens, was able to rehearse with his bands and explore his burgeoning interest in songwriting. But booking gigs was almost impossible, and he witnessed older generations playing rock and metal become targets of the authorities. “It was a very, very depressing time to be a musician,” he reflects. As the ’90s became the aughts, the reins were loosened on live music, and Louca’s tastes eventually expanded into classical and contemporary Arabic music, especially the street-level pop called shaabi, as well as the avant-garde and electronic music. Accordingly, his toolbox grew to include the synthesizer, laptop, sampler and drum machine. Following the Arab Spring protests of 2011, a galvanized DIY scene developed in Cairo, building upon the passion and elbow grease of the music and arts community

that’d been gathering steam in Egypt throughout the prior decade. Artists, promoters and fans could suddenly operate without police oversight, and the results were remarkable, with shows attracting large numbers of concertgoers. Sadly, as new leadership has taken hold in Egypt, and as those leaders have been alarmed by the sight of tens of thousands of spirited young people joining together, performance opportunities have regressed. A system of dedicated promoters and artists has been replaced by what preceded it, namely embassies and institutions with the funds to throw events in an economically distressed nation. A mind-boggling 14 governmental permits are required to throw the average gig, in addition to other requisite bribes and payoffs. Not surprisingly, the lack of operational spaces is dismaying. “When you have millions of people and around 10 venues,” Louca says, “there’s something wrong.” Despite these challenges, Egypt continues to provide fertile ground for Louca and his peers, like the celebrated Egyptian visual artist Maha Maamoun, who contributes the album’s cover art. Today, the Egyptian scene is a familiar feature of contemporary art and experimental music festivals across Europe. Certain components of Elephantine, especially Louca’s use of avant-jazzstyle improv, a developing fascination, required the composer to go outside Egypt’s rich talent pool and tap players from Italy, Iraq, Sweden, Turkey and Denmark. The sessions, however, held in 2017 in Stockholm, made these efforts worthwhile. “There was a blessed thing about the process of making this record,” he says. “The dynamic between us musically but also as people … it was a very exciting time.”

Every song that Aaron Sinclair writes has a certain underlying feeling. SPIN described it as "twitchy paranoia." Baeble Music sensed a "strung-out urgency" in his voice, while the Austin Chronicle called his music "tensiondriven" with "tight, rough riffs and sharp post-punk lines." ‘Catpaws’ was recorded in two to four song batches over the last year and a half usually using a different ground of musicians on each session. Most of ‘Catpaws’ was recorded at King Electric Recording Studios in Austin TX with producer/engineer Justin Douglas. From the sound morphologies of ‘BMW Shuanghuan X5’ where recordings of high performance cars melt and spectrally morph into synthesized orchestral timbres, through the arpeggiated neon hyper patterns of the beautiful ‘Folding’ and the electro slam of ‘Moscow’, this chapter veers into a crystalline, neon sound mirror of ‘In The Wreck Room’, where 21st century jungle meets footwork and electro, takes a ride on board a hypothetical super highway in the rain at night, leaving us in the haunted tension of Lee’s most emotive tracks to date – ‘Many Gods, Many Angels’ - to await the second part of the triptych... ‘In A Paraventral Scale’ is a clash of Gamble’s brand of hyper-concrète, where unmanned vehicles hover around us, steel ball bearings roll and scatter, jet engines end up as smashed objects, voices instruct, orchestral instruments morph into the sounds of doppler-shifting vehicles – all this distilled into signature jungle mirages, with brash, restless DJ Stingray-style 160bpm electro and haunting ambience. e come from nowhere and fade back there again, leaving the foggy dreams and obscure anxieties of this life behind when we go. Life is enigma, and with great respect for the vagaries of this truth, Masaki Batoh’s Nowhere reaches out of the darkness, with strings of steel and voices echoing out of time. In the summer of 2018, Masaki Batoh held sessions at GOK Sound in Tokyo, with the goal of making his fourth solo album. With a pure folk singer approach, he started the recordings as a basic live performance of guitar with vocal, using only two mics. If more elements were needed, they would be added — but most important to him was to capture the performance as immediately as possible. GOK Sound is an all-analog recording facility, and once Batoh had added a few elements such as bass, percussion, harmony vocals, electric guitar, harp and a bit of mellotron (all played by himself in response to his basic performances) and added the necessary reverb, the world of Nowhere was rendered as deep and sparkling as he had hoped, consecrating the spiritual intentions of his songs. Batoh played the basic tracks with acoustic 6- and 12-string guitars, mainly a 1973 Guild D-40 and a 1972 Guild F-212. Two 1968 Gibson models (a J50 and a B12) were used, as well as a 1972 Martin D18, a 1966 Pirles long-neck 5-string banjo and a Gibson Firebird for electric guitar. Everything was tuned to drop D, a tuning taught to him in the early 1980s by the legendary British folk musician Martin Carthy, when Batoh was traveling through London. Many of the lyrics of Nowhere, sung in English, Japanese, and on one song, Latin, reference his younger days as well, when traveling the world and witnessing for himself the majesty and shame of humanity. The sound of Nowhere reflects with dimensional richness the world that Batoh has been traveling since those early days — a vast space echoing with the music of many eras, played and sung in tongues of many nations. This is a world where the guitar can play songs as they’ve been played for centuries, or play in a hauntingly hallucinogenic style, or, as in the closing track, play with an open mind and heart, thinking about these things without knowing exactly where it will end. The theme of Batoh’s music is finding a common tradition in all these various musics, to bring them forward in his own style and provoke a shared desire to promote humanity in the audience. Corey Cunningham's Business of Dreams is all about emotional catharsis. When his father passed away a few years ago, Cunningham took leave from his long-running Bay Area/LA musical partnerships Magic Bullets and Terry Malts to return to his home state of Tennessee to grieve and confront his past. Making music to cope with this loss resulted in Business of Dreams' lovely eponymous debut album, an unexpected pop pleasure that wound up on Bandcamp's and Raven Sings The Blues' year-end lists for 2017. Soon the live version of Business Of Dreams took shape as Cunningham opened for Rogue Wave on a national tour and played scores of local shows with Frankie Rose, Real Estate and many others. With his new album Ripe For Anarchy, Cunningham has honed the songwriting with an eye towards regret, existence, and perseverance. "When I’m gone you won’t cry for me, focus on the moment, be free," he sings on "Chasing That Feeling." And that’s the mantra here: it’s time to let go. "The album is about living in the moment, shedding neurosis, and the desire to discard the general societal malaise we’ve been roped into." Ripe For Anarchy is a through-and-through ode to indie pop, in the historic definition of the genre. "My Old Town" and "N.R.E.A.M." could be album cuts on a Grant McLennan solo album, "Don’t Let Our Time Expire" and "Naive Scenes" could be The Smiths, the Sparklehorse cover "The Hatchet Song" bears an uncanny resemblance to Australian pop pioneers Even As We Speak, and "I Feel Dread" has the unmistakable earmarks of The Field Mice. And while he may be more noted for playing guitar in Terry Malts, Smokescreens, and Merge Records' Mike Krol's backing band, Cunningham is most at home making soft sounds extolling the wounded and mournful. "I think music is the most personal of mediums. You can work and listen, you can run and listen, you can drive and listen. And I think I’m a misfit. If I can make the most personal music for misfits, then I’m satisfied."

Hausu Mountain co-founder Max Allison records under the name Mukqs. He twists elements of noise, techno, video game music, and freefor-all sample collage into rapidly shifting productions united under the banner of his strictly live, hardware-focused practice. Prune City marks their first collaboration as MC/producer duo Sharkula x Mukqs. The album finds Sharkula stretching out into hereto unexplored realms of discontinuous thought and randomized rhythmic cadences, while Mukqs zeroes in on a ramshackle strain of rap production animated by stuttering percussion loops and washes of dark cityscape synthesis. Recorded over the course of one afternoon as a series of first take freestyles, the album reveals the innate chemistry between the two artists’ freewheeling approaches to song structure and improvisation, both warping time-honored tropes and genres into uniquely vibrant, personal art. Formed in Tokyo, the jump blues & swing band, BLOODEST SAXOPHONE has been playing oldschool vintage sounds since 1998. on October 28, 1991. “You just can’t believe how long it took me to get on this show!” he declared, and wasted no time proving why it was long overdue. His performance was a wild ride, and the ACL stage proved too small for his antics, so with his long guitar chord in tow he took off into the audience during his ten-minuteplus finale of “Frosty.” He was first and foremost an entertainer, but nonetheless belongs up front in the pantheon of great blues guitarists. Overview: First release in a new multi-part series of solo releases by the Wolf Eyes frontman. An evolution from the previous Regression material, taking in elements of classic synth soundtracks, ambient and electronic body music, but filtered through a typically off-centre Michigan underground sensibility. In the Regression series–Regression (2009), Stay Asleep (2011), Other Days (2012), Blinding Confusion (2013)–Young drew a compositional aesthetic from Italian library music and musique concrète. Since then, Young has been interpreting the traditional musical methods of rhythm and melody into complex synthesizer compositions. These songs were commonly made as a distraction from grief, seasonal depression, and isolation. Sometimes severely ridiculous and unrelenting; other times slow, sparse and strange; this material didn’t fit in with the Regression series. It was archived and unreleased until now. Nate Young Volume One: Dilemmas Of Identity will be released February, 2019 on Lower Floor Music. NATE YOUNG (b. 1977, Mansfield, MO) is a Detroit-based musician working in experimental electronic sound for over twenty years. In 1998, Young founded legendary noise group Wolf Eyes. Solo and as Wolf Eyes, Young has toured the world, released countless records, collaborated with Anthony Braxton and Marshall Allen, and inspired a generation of electronic musicians. Recent accomplishments include performing his compositions with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and creating Trip Metal Fest, an annual free experimental music festival in Detroit that has brought luminaries such as Morton Subotnick and the Art Ensemble of Chicago to Detroit. In 2016, Young co-created (with John Olson) Lower Floor Music with assistance from iconic electronic label Warp Records.

Asperities is the fourth solo album by acclaimed Canadian cellist Julia Kent. As the title suggests, this is a record born of conflict: internal, personal and global. Universal themes. The build of pressure and the threat of violent release. Modern guilt. Modern fears. Kent draws from a rich well of emotion, the pieces deceptively rendered, each feeling like a miniature dramatic epic in its own right – sculpted and selfcontained. Her work on recent film scores is very much in evidence. While cinematic in scope, there is nothing as trite as a Hollywood ending here. There is tension and darkness, the edges cracked and frayed. “A lot of the melodic material is based on semitones,” Julia elaborates. “So in the music there is an inherent sense of dissonance; that things are too close for comfort. More generally, it seems like a particularly dark time in the world right now, and I think that definitely had an influence too.” Utilising looped cello, electronics and found sounds, Kent creates a world where the technological and the organic merge in perfect symbiosis, the layers of sound peeling back to reveal a beating, bloody human heart at its centre. “I did quite a lot of processing of the cello sound and used different electronic textures,” she explains of her technique. “I was trying to get away from the acoustic cello sound and find one that was more textural and more expressive of the material.” On Asperities: “A masterclass in tonal diversity, expressionist narrative and finespun drama… Recommended without reservation, Asperities is an edifying and invigorating spectacle” 5/5 The Skinny

Springhead Works is the second release by Craven Faults. Where have we been since the last time? The UFO Club, 1966. Runcorn via Stockholm a few years later. Progress. But at what cost? The Scottish Borders have been mentioned. The landscape is reminiscent of home. Rolling hills. Long hot summers. The smell of dusty 1/4” tape. Fairfield Halls, 1970. It’s all a little hazy. Ask a question, but don’t be surprised to get a question back in reply. When was the last time you listened without distraction? Do you remember how it feels to lose yourself completely? Each tiny variation becomes seismic. A lost cause? Perhaps. Netherfield Works is the debut release from Craven Faults. Two long form pieces for half-remembered journeys across post-industrial Yorkshire. Originally released in Europe in late 2017, it was supported by Four Tet, Demdike Stare, Dan Snaith, James Holden, Luke Abbott, Gold Panda, Graham Massey, Bill Kouligas, Not Waving, Resident Advisor, NTS and Beats In Space.

Legendary downtown music master Daniel Carter meets Tobias Wilner from world-renowned electronic band Blue Foundation. Featuring WuTang Clan bass player Djibril Toure & drum wiz Federico Ughi. As a band, they have played a number of concerts in NYC, including the Forward Festival 2016 and 2018, and are currently promoting their debut album. This group is the ultimate mix between the classic New York sound of the avantgarde (i.e., John Coltrane & Albert Ayler) combined with electronic manipulation and production. Although this is the first album they have released as a group, the four musicians have collaborated on different projects for years. The group was first formed when drummer Federico Ughi envisioned an ensemble comprised of some of his favorite super talented people. This includes Daniel Carter, who Federico first met in 2001. The two quickly developed a strong playing partnership, going on to create many albums and tours around the world and eventually founding 577 Records and the Forward Festival together. Federico plays drums in Tobias Wilner’s group Blue Foundation, renowned for its Hollywood movie soundtracks such as the vampire series Twilight in addition to Miami Vice and a busy world tour schedule. Federico also plays with Djibril Toure in the group Major Taylor, one of the best punk rock bands to come out of Bedstuy, Brooklyn in the last 10 years. Djibril plays regularly with GZA, a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan and he’s the bass player featured on a selection of Wu-Tang’s legendary albums. To make this recording, New York United entered the studio without any preconceived plans or written music. They improvised brand new sounds on the spot that were later produced and molded by Tobias Wilner. The result is four strong and dreamy tracks that showcase the rich sound of the acoustic instruments alongside the power of the electronic beats. This project is being released as a limited edition 12’’ vinyl album plus one bonus track for the digital version.
