Ekoplekz returns with his fourth album for Planet Mu, in the shape of 10-tracker ‘Bioprodukt’. The unique lo-fi, woozy technoid sound of Bristol’s Nick Edwards stays intact while he veers towards the nineties for inspiration: the bleep and bass sound of the north of England is one touchpoint and the acid of the 303 era are another.
Claude Speeed returns to Planet Mu, two years after the ‘Sun Czar Temple’ EP, with his second album ‘Infinity Ultra’ which takes inspiration from sleep paralysis, monumental artworks, children’s anime, abandoned places, ghostly rave pasts and terrifying silicon valley futures, and the limitless anger of the digital present.
Antwood returns with his second album ‘Sponsored Content’. It’s more reflective than his debut, last year’s ‘Virtuous.scr’. The relentless mood of the first album has given way to a more melodic, stripped out sound. It still shakes with speed and energy, but with more space, more moments of delicate sadness and strange cyborg pop. What comes to the fore is Tristan’s gift for melody, coupled with the uncanny feeling that somehow his strange music is an entire ecosystem of it’s own.
Ziúr is one of the most exciting producers to come out of club music in the last few years and she’s also the founder and resident DJ of club night ‘Boo-Hoo’. The vision of Ziúr’s music is advanced and precise. It beckons you into an alternate world of wonderfully alien pop music that eschews conventions. She creates eldrich atmospheres that balance gentle melody and warm pop. In the latter half of the album these harden into a pounding, martial symphony of steel, and introduce the kind of rough electronic riffs and guitar samples that betray her background in punk.

This latest instalment in Soul Jazz Records’ successful Deutsche Elektronische Musik series delves deeper into the German nation’s vaults to bring a fascinating new collection that again brings together a selection of classic German electronic and rock groups, including Neu!, Cluster, Popol Vuh, La Düsseldorf, Agitation Free, alongside a host of rare tracks by lesser known artists which includes Michael Bundt, Bröselmaschine, Dronsz, Achim Reichel and others.
The music of Deutsche Elektronische Musik 3 ranges from the introverted pastoralism of Hans Joachim Roedelius and Bröselmaschine, to the angular and futuristic electronic experimentations of Klauss Weiss, Pyrolator, Deuter, Michael Bundt and others, to the protopunk of La Düsseldorf and the heavy space, progressive and cosmic rock of Missus Beastly, Niagara and Dyzan. The music on Deutsche Elektronische Musik 3 was all recorded in the 1970s up to the early 1980s, at a time when forward-thinking German electronic and rock groups were searching for a new musical identity in order to separate themselves from both the cultural legacy of post-world war two Germany as well the ‘cultural imperialism’ of USA and UK rock. In this process German groups created some of the most unique and inspired music, the defining motorik beat alongside a host of ethno-musical influences from far afield – including Turkey, India, Brazil – as well as the musical and futurist possibilities of developments in electronics and technology itself.

This time around its Flowdan, and then Killa P/Irah.
'BAD' is Flowdan and Bug stretching their parameters and turning up the heat.
Flowdan summoning a fresh singjay syle, that is the most glaring indication of his fam's Jamaican roots, as he echoes Cham's classic 'Ghetto Story', with his intimate tale of growing up in "East London". Whilst The Bug unusually constructed the whole riddim out of manipulated layering of a single Soviet drum machine, tweaked and drenched in fx til it rumbled heavily. No other components were used in the making of this backing track. No basslines applied.
Vox and beatbox only, as simple and effective as it gets.
This tune has been chosen by Elijah as one of his Grime tunes of the year(He has included it on his forthcoming 'Best of Grime in 2017' comp). And Mala, Kahn and Pinch are slayin it off dubplate...
