White Denim
Performance + Side Effects out now on City Slang Records up to 30% off!
“Expertly weighted between great hooks and loose, Southernstyled jams that dare you to shake a leg.” – UNCUT “Capture so many of the different sides of the band’s multi-faceted sound that it feels expansive and wholesome.” – DIY MAGAZINE “Wildly and refreshingly unpredictable..” – POPMATTERS “Strongly felt, unceasingly surprising and just a whole lot of fun.” – EXCLAIM! The ever-prolific White Denim have graced die-hards and new fans alike with two album in the last calendar year - Performance and Side Effects. More in line with the experimental, freewheeling spirit of their fan-favorite record Last Day of Summer than anything else they’ve done since, these songs capture the essence of the band’s full-throttle live shows. Featuring a rotating cast of band members led by James Petralli and Steve Terebecki, the tracks draw on the sounds of different personnel to create a cohesive whole – the result being as varied and vivacious as anything they’ve ever done. • • • •

Jazzanova Jazzanova is many things to many different people. For more than twenty years the eclectic collective from Berlin has been busy producing, composing, arranging, remixing, DJing and generally shaping our musical world – in the clubs, on the air, in the studio, live on stage, and with their label Sonar Kollektiv. Their “very fertile musical world” (Time Out New York), which does “light a musical tinderbox” (The Face, UK), is “one of the best fusions of all the disparate elements of club music, yet” (Straight No Chaser) and “has dominated the jazz-dance and down-tempo scenes for the past few years, both with its own label and with countless remixes” (Phoenix New Times). Ever changing and evolving, Jazzanova went from their early sampled and programmed productions, culminating in “In Between”, via the “Belle Et Fou”-soundtrack, which they recorded with a full orchestra plus band, to the singer-songwriter Soul of their album “Of All The Things”, which gets a reissue on Sonar Kollektiv including bonus instrumentals in 2019. For the past ten years Jazzanova has also been touring internationally with a nine-piece-band, which culminated in their release: “The Funkhaus Studio Sessions”. In 2018 they released their critically acclaimed 3rd studio album “The Pool“. And after all these inquisitive, innovative and sonically rich years the five of them still plan every new project and prospect together – Jazzanova is still a collective.

AFRICAN HEAD CHARGE - BACK IN STOCK!
AFRICAN HEAD CHARGE MY LIFE IN A HOLE IN THE GROUND ONULP13 ◍ UPC: 5060263721468
AFRICAN HEAD CHARGE ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES ONULP19 ◍ UPC: 5060263721475
The groundbreaking debut album from 1981 that plays on both the title and concept of David Byrne and Brian Eno's My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. Built upon sparse backing tracks constructed by Adrian Sherwood, the producer invited Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah (who had studied under Count Ossie in the rasta drumming camp at Wareika Hill in Jamaica) to lay down hand percussion patterns and breaks on top, augmented by stereo-strafed effects and the occasional burst of Sun Ra-style horns. The result is a unique mixture of traditional African rhythms, dub and free jazz. Features DJ favourite “Stebeni’s Theme” and “Far Away Chant”, used to famously gruesome effect by David Lynch in the film Wild At Heart.
Their second album from 1982,which found African Head Charge working manipulated and vari-speeded 1/4 inch tape loops that were re-recorded back to the multi-track, soaked in reverb and delay, and then applied to the performances of the musicians, not to mention extensive use of found sounds and field recordings, hence the title. The brainchild of Adrian Sherwood and percussionist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah, the group forged their own undefinable sound on these early albums which sound eerily contemporary, pre-dating the experimental bass music of labels such as Hyperdub and Tectonic. Features contributions from Bruce Smith (The Pop Group), Style Scott (Roots Radics) and Deadly Headley (The Wailers).
Reissues re-cut at dubplates & mastering in Berlin for maximum bass pressure. Includes printed inner with sleevenotes by Steve Barker (On The Wire), plus download card for full album. -----

The Complete Christmas Collection (2-CD SET) STREET DATE: NOVEMBER 8, 2019 Having released Christmas collections from Percy Faith, Ray Conniff, Fred Waring, Mantovani, Andre Kostelanetz, and more, we at Real Gone Music have hit just about every note in our survey of great, holiday-themed easy listening records and artists. But one iconic orchestral bandleader remains to be addressed, except that this one made a name for himself more as a composer than a conductor. Leroy Anderson, the man no less an authority than John Williams labeled “one of the great American masters of light orchestral music,” and author of such wildly inventive works as “The Syncopated Clock” and “The Typewriter,” first gained fame by composing pieces for Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra, then went on to score the first-ever million-selling instrumental single with 1951’s “Blue Tango.” In 1955, Anderson put his limitless creativity to work recording his first-ever holiday release, Christmas Carols; the album proved to be such a success that he rerecorded it in 1959 with a new song sequence under the name Christmas Festival (named after the marvelous concert overture that begins the record). Neither album, the mono 1955 release or the 1959 stereo release, have come out on CD (the 1959 release was issued on CD in mono); we’ve put both albums together on one 2-CD set and added bonus mono and stereo versions of the Anderson classic “Sleigh Ride” to create The Complete Christmas Collection! And to top it off, Leroy’s son Kurt Anderson has provided us with personal, in-depth liner notes and photos from the family archives to fashion the ultimate Yuletide treat for fans of this American music giant.

The Complete Columbia Christmas Albums STREET DATE: NOVEMBER 8, 2019
SONGS
The Glorious Sound of Christmas
Eugene Ormandy’s 44-year tenure as music director of the world-renowned Philadelphia Orchestra remains the single longest affiliation of conductor and orchestra. Under the direction of Maestro Ormandy, the orchestra earned two Grammy Awards and three Gold records. Real Gone Music and Second Disc Records are thrilled to bring to CD both of Ormandy’s original Columbia Records Christmas albums in one deluxe package. The Complete Columbia Christmas Albums presents The Glorious Sound of Christmas (1962) and A Christmas Festival (1964) on one CD. On The Glorious Sound of Christmas, Ormandy and The Philadelphia Orchestra welcomed The Temple University Concert Choir under the direction of Robert Page for a stirring set of traditional carols including “Joy to the World,” “The First Noel,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” and “Silent Night.” Two years later, Ormandy was back in the studio with the Orchestra and Choir, adding The St. Francis de Sales Boychoir led by Peter La Manna. A Christmas Festival (CD debut!) picked up where its predecessor left off, with the same lush grandeur in celebration of the season. It featured “The Little Drummer Boy” and “Jingle Bells” alongside stirring renditions of classics such as “Here We Go A-Caroling” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Both albums were produced by Thomas Frost with arrangements by Arthur Harris. This new edition has been newly remastered by Mike Piacentini at Sony’s Battery Studios and features new liner notes by Joe Marchese of The Second Disc. The Complete Columbia Albums captures some of the most magnificent Christmas music ever released in new sonic splendor.

Stanley Black AND HIS ORCHESTRA
CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY for Romance STREET DATE: NOVEMBER 8, 2019 It’s fair to say that Stanley Black is to Britain what Glenn Miller is to America. Both cemented their fame while leading government-backed bands during World War II, Black with the BBC Dance Orchestra, Miller with the Army Air Forces Band, and both command an outsized reputation today among each country’s populace. But while Miller, of course, tragically lost his life flying across the English Channel in December 1944, Black’s career just continued to blossom after the war; he appeared on over 4000 broadcasts for the Beeb before being appointed house arranger/ conductor for the venerable Decca label, where he spent 20-some odd years. During that time—between composing music for The Goon Show and the Cliff Richard film vehicles The Young Ones and Summer Holiday among other high-profile projects—he released a series of well-received albums for Decca (and here in the States, London), including such titles as Musical Comedy Favourites, Latin Rhythms, Cuban Moonlight, and The Music of Richard Rodgers. But 1954’s Christmas Holiday for Romance just may be the most beloved among all of Black’s many releases; his elegant, lush, and tasteful arrangements (sans vocals) guaranteed, as the original liner notes put it, “many pleasant hours of relaxed listening.” It’s an eclectic mix of British and American songs, with a smattering of non-holiday tunes (e.g. “Cinderella [Stay in My Arms]”) that fit right in with the album’s warm glow. This is Black’s only Christmas album, and it makes its CD debut here, with liner notes by Joe Marchese and remastering by Mike Milchner at SonicVision, and it comes with impeccable credentials, coming in at #30 on theyulelog.com’s list of top Christmas albums of all time. Another long-overdue Christmas present from Real Gone Music!

THE COMPLETE RCA VICTOR & COLUMBIA CHRISTMAS RECORDINGS (2-CD Set) STREET DATE: NOVEMBER 8, 2019 It’s for good reason that Chet Atkins remains one of the most revered names not only in country music but in American music itself. A producer, A&R man, songwriter, sometimesvocalist, and above all, a guitarist par excellence, Atkins defined the sound of country with his championing of RCA’s lush Nashville Sound. A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee and a 14-time Grammy winner (including a Lifetime Achievement Award), Atkins recorded three albums of Christmas music throughout his lengthy career. Real Gone Music and Second Disc Records’ 2-CD set The Complete RCA Victor and Columbia Christmas Recordings is packed with almost 50 vintage holiday tunes from this legendary musician originally released between 1953 and 1996 on both of those labels. These joyous and virtuosic recordings encompass rare singles, the complete albums Christmas with Chet Atkins (in both its original 1961 version and re-recorded 1976 iteration) and East Tennessee Christmas, and numerous one-offs from various albums over the years. Chet brought his singular guitar style to recordings of both pop and country hits (“Jingle Bell Rock,” “Blue Christmas”) and classic carols (“Away in a Manger,” “Ave Maria”) plus favorites like “Winter Walkin’” and “East Tennessee Christmas.” Annotated by The Second Disc’s Joe Marchese, and remastered by Vic Anesini at Sony’s Battery Studios, The Complete RCA Victor & Columbia Christmas Recordings proves you don’t have to be from Tennessee to enjoy the classic country sound of Chet Atkins, C.G.P. (that’s “Certified Guitar Player,” naturally)!

JIM REEVES 12 SONGS OF CHRISTMAS
(Remastered & Expanded Edition)
STREET DATE: NOVEMBER 8, 2019 Has there ever been a warmer voice than that wielded by Gentleman Jim Reeves? That light, warm baritone helped change the face of country music, helping to usher in The Nashville Sound with a series of albums and singles produced by Chet Atkins. He is without a doubt the greatest country crooner of all time…and of all his releases (and there are a lot of them… the Bear Family label’s collection of complete commercial recordings spanned 16 CDs!), his 1963 holiday album 12 Songs of Christmas just might be his most enduring. Now, this record—which features such holiday evergreens as “An Old Christmas Card” and “C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S”—has never gone out of print in the CD era, or any other era, for that matter; but the CD that is currently available is a full 20 years old, and, to be kind, the sound on that release is showing its age. So, we have given it a fresh remastering by Vic Anesini at Sony’s Battery Studios, and added two holidaythemed songs (“Snowflake” and “Scarlet Ribbons”) to this Expanded Edition to make it, er, “14 Songs of Christmas!” Steve Harmon contributes brand-new liner notes to accompany vintage photos. A Christmas classic, sounding bigger, better, and even warmer than before!

DESCRIPTION
Pianist and producer Jamael Dean is a jazz prodigy. Just 20 years old, he’s already collaborated and performed with the likes of Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Carlos Niño. Jamael's music reflects the dual influence of his contemporaries in the Los Angeles scene and that of jazz ancestors including Sun Ra, Alice Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, and soul jazz drummer Donald Dean — who is also his grandfather. Los Angeles, he says, is the “only place I can go in the same day to a jam session with music from the 20s and 30s to another session with music in the 40s through the 80s, and after that play music with my friends from that era onwards.”

Atlantæum Flood is a unique instrumental five-piece collective featuring Marty Willson-Piper (exThe Church and All About Eve). Their debut album One Day is both epic and eclectic, fusing world music influences with elements of folk and progressive rock. Ranging from subtle ethereal moments with dreamy 12-string guitars to dynamic, powerful intensity with soaring lead lines against a percussive backdrop, the eight track release is a beautifully cohesive and considered cinematic soundscape. Atlantæum Flood is Steve & Lynne Knott, Marty & Olivia Willson-Piper and Dare Mason. The original compositions on One Day were written by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Steve Knott. With a background in the Merseyside music scene of the late 1970s - early 1980s, Steve was a founding member of Wirral-based synth pioneers, The Games. He has been a part of several innovative projects since. Lynne Knott plays cello. She has collaborated on a range of art, music and poetry projects. In addition to her contributions to Atlantæum Flood, she has had radio play with her track, Speke Road Gardens, co-written with Yvonne Lyon and featured by Sir Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2 and by Roddy Hart on BBC Radio Scotland. Marty Willson-Piper is widely celebrated guitarist, vocalist and songwriter with a host of individual and collaborative credits spanning decades. He was a founding member of The Church, releasing over 20 albums with them and also a member of All About Eve, releasing two studio albums and three live albums. Marty formed the Noctorum project with Dare Mason in 2002. The current Noctorum album The Afterlife was released through Schoolkids Records in 2019. Marty has released six solo albums, is a member of Anekdoten and his current project MOAT will release a new album in 2020. Marty brings an instinctive natural talent and signature guitar style to the sound of Atlantæum Flood.

Her ‘cellolin’ sound comes from fitting a violin with octave strings, transforming the instrument and helping to create a distinctive and rich sonic tapestry. Olivia has also compèred Europe’s largest Progressive Rock festival, the Night Of The Prog at Loreley, since July 2015. As a house engineer at the world famous Townhouse Studios in London, Dare Mason worked with Prince, Sir Paul McCartney, Boy George, Tina Turner and many others. TRIBE – HOMETOWN: DETROIT SESSIONS 1990-2014 “This album will be part of the everlasting impact the Tribe collective had on our culture, on our hope and possibilities.” Herb Boyd Strut and Art Yard present the first compilation bringing together the modern era recordings of Tribe, Detroit’s acclaimed independent jazz collective. Tribe began as a musical ensemble in 1971 co-founded by Saxophonist Wendell Harrison and trombonist Phil Ranelin that soon expanded into a broad amalgam including a live collective and independent record label. Ignored by the mainstream, many African American jazz artists in Detroit and across the US began creating their own small imprints and Tribe emerged alongside other cultural entities to express selfdetermination goals in the city: saxophonist Ernie Rodgers with his sessions at Rapa House; John and Leni Sinclair’s Artist Workshop; Bruce Millan’s Repertory Theater; the Hastings Jazz Experience and the Strata Corporation led by Kenny Cox. Harrison’s ideas of independence, self-determination and education were central to the Tribe ethos: “I might be possessed with a drive to get the knowledge out,” explained Harrison, “because I see this as sustaining the future of the jazz diaspora, the jazz tradition.” Tribe album releases like Harrison’s ‘An Evening With The Devil’ (1972) and Harrison and Ranelin’s ‘A Message From The Tribe’ (1973) became early ‘70s milestones in Detroit jazz. In 1977, Harrison teamed up with pianist/composer Harold McKinney to form Rebirth Inc., aided by Detroit cultural warrior John Sinclair, a continuation of the Tribe community ethos. Musically, it formed a link with radio station WDET and began an outreach program to teach children and to publish Harrison’s jazz instruction books. Harrison continue to record extensively as a leader with his own labels, WenHa and Tribe, documenting the collective through sessions led by Phil Ranelin, Harold McKinney, Pamela Wise and more. The ‘Hometown’ compilation places the spotlight on this later era of Tribe and Rebirth Inc., with rare and previously unreleased recordings from Harrison’s WenHa / Rebirth Studios and the SereNgeti Gallery And Cultural Center. Among many highlights, Harold McKinney and his “McKinfolk” family of musicians contribute the pulsing ‘Wide And Blue’ and dance celebration ‘Juba’; Phil Ranelin re-works his classic ‘He The One We All Knew’; Poet Mbiyu Chui (Williams Moore), pianist Pamela Wise and percussionist Djallo Djakate spark on the uncompromising ‘Ode To Black Mothers’ and the rallying cry of ‘Marcus Garvey’: “If we ever get together we will astound the world.” Harrison himself evokes the power and majesty of juju on ‘Conjure Man’. ‘Hometown’ comes as a 2LP gatefold and 1CD digipak fully remastered by Technology Works from the original session recordings. Both formats include exclusive sleeve notes by journalist Herb Boyd with rare photos from Wendell Harrison’s personal archive.

KELE 2042
KOLA 001
Kele, founding member & lead singer of Bloc Party, today announces the release of his new solo album 2042, heralded by the visceral first single “Jungle Bunny”. “There is a history of black entertainers feeling that after they have achieved a certain level of success that they are above discussions of race but that idea is a delusion,” says Kele. “As a person of colour living in the western world, it does not matter how much wealth one accumulates, race will follow you wherever you go. With JUNGLE BUNNY I wanted explore this idea: In a time of such rampant division and public racism, what is the responsibility of the black entertainer?" 2042 will be available from 8 November 2019 in digital, on CD and in limited edition 2xLP formats via Kele’s own label KOLA Records in association with !K7. 2042 is Kele’s fourth solo record and, TRACKLISTING CD 01 Jungle Bunny (03:49) 02 Past Lives (Interlude) (01:15) 03 Let England Burn (03:36) 04 St Kaepernick Wept (04:22) 05 Guava Rubicon (03:41) 06 My Business (04:15) 07 Ceiling Games (05:45) 08 Where She Came From (Interlude) (00:25) 09 Between Me And My Maker (05:59) 10 Natural Hair (03:45)

following 2017’s largely acoustic Fatherland (released under his full name and featuring a duet with Olly Alexander from Years and Years), marks something of a return to the adrenalised electronics of his previous two solo records, Trick (2014) and The Boxer (2010), whilst broadening the sonic palette by bringing in elements of his work with Bloc Party and a litany of other influences and ideas. As an artist, Kele Okereke has never stood still, relentlessly seeking new ways in which to present his luminous songs. Whilst sonically markedly different from Fatherland, lyrically 2042 picks up a thread from that record whereby Kele’s life experiences and relationships suffuse the album with some of his most personal lyrics yet. “2042” will be released on November 8th on 2LP, CD and digital platforms.

FILE UNDER : Walker, Ryley RELEASE DATE : Nov 8th, 2019 NO EXPORT (JAPAN, S. America OK )
Charles Rumback and Ryley Walker are both known for their creativity and curious spirits. Rumback is a drummer in high demand in Chicago’s free-jazz circles, and a pillar of the second wave of improvisers in a scene first shaped by the legendary players like Sun Ra and other members of the AACM. Walker draws deeply on other distinctly American styles, bringing a strong sense of folk tradition to his playing that is as arresting as his freewheeling performance style. Together, Rumback and Walker find common ground in their kinetic, intuitive playing and yearning creative outlook. Little Common Twist, their sophomore release as a duo, finds both players at their most adventurous. It compiles instrumental pieces that convey a striking range of emotions, at once introspective and expansive, with a delicate interplay that delights as they move with ease across a spectrum of styles. The recording has a pastoral quality that recalls Van Morrison’s classic album Veedon Fleece, and captures a remarkably dexterous performance by both Charles and Ryley that make this album so expansive and fresh. Little Common Twist was recorded over several sessions throughout 2017 and 2018 with producer John Hughes, capturing the duo playing in the moment with minimal overdubs. The guitar and drums duo eschewed each instrument’s traditional roles of rhythm and melody, experimenting with texture and rhythm. This album is the culmination of a creative partnership that has seen Rumback and Walker constantly challenging each other. In stretching the bounds of their interplay even further than before, the duo created their most evocative and expansive work to date, conjuring the afterglow of sun-scorched landscapes and ethereal after-hours ambience. LP pressed on virgin vinyl packaged with a free download card. Limited amount pressed on translucent pink vinyl.

Sales Info Ryley walker will be touring North America November and December. Duo will be touring North America in 2020 imited translucent pink lp edition Ryley Walker’s been dippin’ his toe back into instrumental guitar music and it’s a real dang treat to see both sides develop simultaneously. This quiet-yet-busy rambler with drummer Charles Rumback sounds like it could’ve appeared on ECM Records LP with rolling fields painted in pastels on the cover. -NPR Judging by the killer single “Half Joking” the instrumental album is sun-dappled and pastoral. - Brooklyn Vegan “Drummer Charles Rumback has cultivated his melodically-informed sensibility on a number of fine records.” - All About Jazz Walker’s visceral engagement with the music means that he transcends mere homage where Rumback flutters around the guitarist’s palpably blitzed virtuosity. -Uncut

Soul Jazz Records Presents
NIGERIA SOUL POWER 70 Afro-Funk, Afro-Rock, Afro-Disco 8 th November 2019
Soul Jazz Records’ Nigeria Soul Power 70 album showcases the influence of funk, rock and disco on Nigerian music during the 1970s. Originally released as a now-long-out-of-print collectors’ 7” RSD box, this fully expanded album release now also includes extra tracks from Sonny Okosuns, Wings, Chief Kollington Ayinla and more.
Tracklisting
While for many people the fusion of funk and jazz music with Nigerian rhythms and aesthetics began with Fela Kuti and his afro-beat sound, in fact this can be traced further back to the phenomena of the 1960s Nigerian artists and house bands in nightclubs and hotels who interpreted US soul and pop music with a local flavour and none more so than Geraldo Pino, the ‘African James Brown’ who features heavily in this collection. Other similarly inspired Nigerian funk and soul artists featured here included Tony Grey and his Ozimba Messengers and Don Bruce and The Angels. Nigeria Soul Power 70 includes a number of tracks from the group Wings originally known as BAF (Biafran Air Force) Wings, an army band formed during the Biafran civil war in Nigeria. The groups’ heavy mixture of funk, rock and African styles was popular among many Nigerian groups at the time. Beneath the shadow of the few Nigerian artists who signed international recording deals in the 1970s – Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Chief Ebenezer Obey – lies of vast wealth of largely undiscovered musical transmutation and cultural cross-pollination, and included here are heavy afro-funk/rock and disco tracks from artists such as the legendary Sonny Okosuns as well as rare cuts from little-known outside of Nigeria - groups such as Colomach and MFB. Most of these obscure artists signed to major labels in Nigeria in the commercial slipstream that opened up as Philips, Decca and EMI tried to emulate the international success of the big three international Nigerian artists. Finally featured here is Kollington Ayinla, one of the co-founders of Nigerian Fuji music, who gives us perhaps the heaviest of all tracks on this album. Ayinla is the great moderniser of the Fuji sound and in the late 1970s began adding Bata drums and synthesizers to his authentic music to create a powerful and heavy new fusion of traditional and modernist aesthetics, embracing both new technology and experimentation while rooted firmly in Nigerian historical lineage. Nigeria Soul Power 70 is released as a heavyweight gatefold double vinyl LP (+ free download code), deluxe slipcase CD and digital album.

• Limited edition INDIE RETAIL pressing on blue vinyl This, M. Ward's third album, places him in the forefront of a modern movement that is clearly progressive while simultaneously sounding regressive, feeling dusty with age, and manifesting a genius that is pure and untempered. His music defies description except to say it is coming from somewhere seeped in the early blues with a Neil Young overlay and the feel of country, blues, pop, and folk. I am beginning to believe, the more I listen to this album, that if Neil Young heard it he would say: "That's it...that is what I was trying to sound like...listen to those chord progressions and chord changes...that's it". People point to Tom Waits and others as Ward's forebearers but the muse here is genuinely unique and the sounds are those that only a budding genius could make. The opening rif of "Fool Says" feels like it came from Abbey Road but by song's end you have been dipped in Young and Dylan. I dare you to listen to "Get to the table on time" and not imagine yourself there as the Ward family calls their prodigal son to come down from the attic for dinner. M. Ward makes beautiful music--sounds like you have never encountered--and he sings along with the melodies as if he can't help himself. Who could if they had this much soul? It is all coming from a very deep place inside him and you owe it to yourself before you pass--the main issue he is addressing on this album--to hear these songs because they are the most soulful and melodic tunes you will have heard in quite some time. This man lives in his own songful world and I can't thank him enough for sharing it with us on Transfiguration. If you put this album on your turntable it will be a long time before you take it off. The more you listen the deeper it gets--just like M. Ward, I suspect. This is genius, pure genius, and you need to hear it. PRESS: “Full of snappy, loping pop tunes interwoven with mellow instrumental passages, Transfiguration of Vincent shows Ward to be a terrific folk and blues guitarist, a perceptive, witty storyteller, and--in tossing piano, percussion, harmonica, and various other instruments into mixes that never feel the least bit cluttered--an imaginative arranger. He's also an expressive vocalist, whether in a winsome upper register... or his sandy-throated midrange. There's not a weak moment on this dark-horse gem of a disc.” -- Anders Smith Lindall, Amazon “Some time in 2035, I'm going to pull this album out, and it's going to sound just as good as it does now. There's something running through it that broadcasts timelessness and defies genre constraints.” -- Joe Tangari, Pitchfork Media “M. Ward's Transfiguration of Vincent album is a house filled with ghosts, from the spirits of friends who have passed away to the departed legends of American roots music.” -- Dave Heaton, PopMatters

Debut album of 23-year-old UK artist Oliver Spalding recorded with producer Ed Tullett (Novo Amor). Built around Spalding’s staggeringly beautiful voice, the record is full of melodic, immediate songwriting and arresting electronic production. These 11 tracks are woven together with a common thread of heavyheartedness. Even the more upbeat songs, like title track and “Bow Creek”, which drive and glisten with intoxicating pop hooks and 80s era synths, recall the darker undercurrents of classic New Order. Says Spalding, “The album focuses on a certain period of time in my life and the things that happened around me. My honesty in songwriting is key. The aim of this album was to be raw and emotional. Emotions are scary and no one wants to face them, and that’s what I wanted the album to feel like something that is uncomfortable but also beautifully revealing. Opener “Athamé” explodes the record into life with a barrage of saxophone and cymbals, before settling down to “Xanax”’s addictive delayed guitar lines and Spalding’s world-weary vocals. The slow, dark R&B simmer of “Her Crescent” reflects in the dark, ethereal pool of Björk-influenced soundscape “Emissive”, and the quietude of the delicate, piano-led heartbreaker “Golden” gives room to breathe after the gloomy electronic cacophony of “AIBM”. Elsewhere in the album, “Unreal” sees Spalding’s gossamer, spine-tingling falsetto soar to the heavens, and epic power ballad “Everglades” lifts Spalding’s voice to its towering, affecting peak, bringing the album to a close with a shudder of thundering drums. 1. They remained virtually unknown, but their one and only single retained high interest among fans of Detroit rock. The band had had only enough money to mix one song, "City Slang", so it was pressed on both sides of the single. One side was labelled mono and one side stereo although both sides were identical. Jazzanova Of All The Things (Deluxe Version) Very few albums manage to unveil their roots so honestly and at the same time succeed in creating something utterly distinct. ‚Of All The Things‘ from Jazzanova is one of these albums. Originally released in 2008 on Universal, it now gets a luxurious reissue on Sonar Kollektiv as a 3LP with pop-up gatefold cover including previously unreleased instrumentals. At no time is it unclear that this album is a deep bow to soul from the 1960s and 70s as well as genres like jazz, brazil and pop music in the vein of the early Beatles. SIR BABYGIRL
CRUSH ON ME: BICONIC EDITION November 8, 2019
“Top 40 anthems but dialed up to 11, with sputtering pop-rock production and histrionic, broadway-style vocals, all while underscoring a uniquly queer point of view.” - Rolling Stone “Sir Babygirl's songs are as wildly spiked musically as they are emotionally -- a blithely confrontational mix of bedroom indie rock and futuristic turbo-pop with all levels in the red.” - Billboard “A masterclass in pop songwriting and a dismantling of it.” - Pitchfork “Whiplash-causing mixture of remarkably vivid and smart songs.” - The Fader “Sir Babygirl is the pop act you need to know.” - Paper “The burgeoning talent is making pop-star moves on an indie budget.” - MTV “Sir Babygirl manages to hotwire queer desire, inject it with manic abandon, and drive it straight to Claire’s.”- Bust “Cheerful, wildly overdriven pop songs.” - NPR Music
FOR FANS OF CHARLI XCX, AVRIL LAVIGNE, ROBYN • First time on vinyl! Neon Green color, limited to 500 • Remastered by Sarah Register (Big Thief, Yaeji, Ariana Grande) • Features three bonus songs including “Praying” (Kesha cover) • Includes 11x17 Poster The pseudonymme of DIY pop diva/producer Kelsie Hogue, Sir Babygirl mixes and matches inspirations as sundry as Charli XCX, Hole, Hey Arnold!, and Tim And Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! into unabashedly bubblegum, unashamedly queer pop for a future free of genre boundary and the gender binary. Crush on Me: BICONIC Edition is a remastered, expanded version of Crush on Me, released in February 2019. It includes three bonus tracks including a cover of Kesha’s “Praying.” Sir Babygirl has been supported by Pitchfork, NPR Music, The Fader, VICE, MTV, Rolling Stone, and KEXP. Crush on Me: BICONIC Edition dances through discovery—from opener “Heels,” which sets Sir Babygirl as a bewildered, bisexual Cinderella bailing on the ball, rages through the agony and ecstasy of queer flirting (“Flirting with Her”), parties with old ghosts (“Haunted House”), trudges through social anxieties (“Everyone is a Bad Friend”), and basks in the glow of neon-lit nights out (“Pink Lite”).

PHILIP B. PRICE
BONE ALMANAC On November 8, 2019, Philip B. Price – lead singer/songwriter of acclaimed Winterpills – will release Bone Almanac on Signature Sounds, his first solo outing since 2004. Philip went into the studio in April of 2018 with Justin Pizzoferrato (Pixies, Sebadoh, Kim Gordon), 5 weirdly tuned acoustic guitars, a book full of dark, spare, apocalyptic songs, and little else. The naked-yet-layered sound that emerged is like nothing he or Winterpills has ever done before. While addressing very modern dreads (environmental devastation, for one), Bone Almanac would also sit nicely on a shelf next to John Fahey, Nick Drake, Gene Clark, Bill Callahan, John Renbourn and Joni Mitchell. “I don’t wanna call this my ‘climate change emergency’ album,” Price says, “because I’m pretty sure there will be more of those. Maybe call it volume one.” Price’s well-worn pop sensibility, honeyed voice and spidery guitar work makes it all go down a with bittersweet warmth.

RACHAEL DADD FLUX STREET DATE: 08 NOVEMBER 2019 Contemporary folk multi-instrumentalist Rachael Dadd is set to release her new album “Flux” on Memphis Industries on the 8th November 2019. Produced with Marcus Hamblett (Villagers / Laura Marling), “Flux” is a response to external and internal tides: the flow of life uprooted; a protest against the flow of recent political history and a diary of the flow within the intimate space of home.

Collaborators include multi-instrumentalist Emma Gatrill (Willie Mason / Matthew and the Atlas), drummer Rob Pemberton (Emily Barker / Low Chimes), bassist Jim Barr (Portishead) and vocalists Kate Stables (This Is The Kit) and Rozi Plain. Flux follows Rachael’s highly acclaimed album “We Resonate” which came out on Talitres and Sweetdreams Press, and a string of international releases on Broken Sound, Lost Map, Sweetdreams Press and Angel’s Egg. Living half her time as a travelling musician in Japan, witnessing how other people create things, connecting with other cultures and landscapes; all this is a furnace for Rachael’s innovative song writing, which has seen her gain a reputation as a pioneering and thought provoking artist, unafraid to push the boundaries of folk and pop. In 2016 her solo “Piano & Projection” show received an Emerging Excellence Award. She has toured this show as well as full band and solo sets across venues and festivals in the UK, Europe, Australia and Asia. Her countless festival performances include End Of the Road, Green Man, Glastonbury, Truck, Farmfest and Wilderness in the UK, as well as Le Festival Les Femmes' en Mêlent (France), Mandrea Festival (Italy), Woodford (Australia) and Women in (E)Motion (Germany). Rachael co-curated Bristol’s SHHH Festival (a celebration of quiet and diverse music), instigated the group exhibition DIY is all you need with fellow musicians and artists, and curated and hosted Rachael Dadd and Friends at Kings Place, London. In Japan she has written for some top names such as UA and Gontiti, and performed to an audience of 4000 at Tokyo’s famous NHK Hall. With a background in fine art, Rachael puts great attention into the conceptual and visual through her music videos, album artwork, handmade merchandise and exhibitions, and has received wide support from DJs on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3 Late Junction, BBC radio 4, Xfm and France Musique.

GIANT SWAN GIANT SWAN
CAT NO: KECK001LP (Vinyl) / KECK001CD (CD) UPC: 5060384616698 (Vinyl) / 5060384616704 (CD) RELEASE DATE: 8th November 2019 Overview: The much anticipated debut album by Giant Swan, the brainchild of Robin Stewart & Harry Wright; an acerbic marriage of energised, aggressive dance music, quaking bass and hypnotic electronic noise. Across a table of machines and pedals, incorporating abused guitar and liberal vocal manipulation, Giant Swan create a cross-breed of hypnotic bass, industrial percussion and disorientating energy delivered with telepathic intricacy. With strong ties to Bristol’s deep musical heritage, Giant Swan are a maelstrom of potential energy, bleeding between several sonic movements that both obliterate and invigorate. Building on a foundation of rhythmic tension and frenzied improvisation, no two performances are the same as the duo re-build and destroy their twisted vision of techno-not-techno. Steadily assembling an arsenal of heavy hitting releases on Howling Owl (2015), FuckPunk (2016), Timedance (2017), Mannequin (2018) and most recently Whities (2018), their recorded output has been sculpted and refined into consummate snapshots of the unrivalled, ecstatic energy they fire from the stage through raw improvisation. Relentless touring of DIY circuits as well as festival stealing performances at the likes of Unsound and Atonal has seen their reputation take flight as an unstoppable force in live electronic music. igh Line represents a new path into the high country for the NYC ambient country quintet known as SUSS. The follow-up release to their acclaimed album Ghost Box (Expanded) on Northern Spy Records, High Line explores the horizon line where the cosmic meets the landscape of the American West. Drawing on influences such as Ry Cooder and Bruce Langhorne while forging new paths alongside fellow travelers like Daniel Lanois and Boards of Canada, SUSS uses a combination of acoustic guitars, pedal steel, harmonica, mandolin and synthesized sound manipulation to take the listener on a blissful and mythic trip into the unknown.
“...a vivid landscape where mellifluous tones foster the mystery and magic of a fabled landscape.” - Allison Hussey, Pitchfork “...a creature unlike any other, where slide guitars and tremolo-heavy string pluckings paint a picture of a desert horizon facing a gorgeous sunset.” - Evan Sawdey, PopMatters

Chicago footwork legend and co-founder of the Teklife producers crew (alongside his musical collaborator DJ Rashad), DJ Spinn makes his long awaited return to Hyperdub with ‘Da Life’ EP, and we couldn’t be happier to have him back. Featuring four brand new offerings, ‘Da Life’ EP is energetic, fast paced and classic footwork. First up is the high energy ‘Knock A Patch Out’, a frantic and cascading key melody contained in crisp claps, with Spinn’s vocal flowing in half way through the track. Next up is ‘Make Her Hot’, which starts out in half time blossoming into a full blown footwork slow jam. ‘Sky Way’, featuring Teklife member DJ Manny, has a moody G Funk melody that starts slowly in half time, with rolling snares and organic kicks. Closing track ‘U Ain’t Really Bout Dat Life’ is an ode to Teklife. Icey synths rise and shimmer with an auto tuned vocal from Spinn spelling out ''T-E-K-L-I-F-E”. Alongside Rashad, Spinn united the footwork genre's producers and took it global. 'Da Life' represents his reentry back into the scene, four years after 2015's 'Off That Loud' EP, and he’s coming back as strong as ever.

“C’est ce que je fais qui m’apprend ce que je cherche.” “It’s what I do that teaches me what I’m looking for.” Pierre Soulages Jim White and George Xylouris have been friends since Jim’s early days in Dirty Three. Their musical connection goes back to then and led them to start Xylouris White in 2013. Since then, they have released three albums and been touring the world. The Sisypheans is their fourth release.

Jim on The Sisypheans: “As George Xylouris and I traveled around these last five years, we found ourselves talking about Sisyphus. George had a theory about Sisyphus, condemned to climb that hill with that rock forever. George saw him carrying the rock in different ways, in his left hand, behind his back, pushing it with his head while crawling and noticing each journey the seasons changing, the grass and the insects. The meaning was clear and for George it fit with playing the popular Cretan song “Proto Hanoti” many turns each day for his life and discovering it new each time . . . I found it fit in with a long held set of thoughts I’d had, that if one concentrated activity and thought enough on one thing it would expand and be a whole world. It sounded like the same idea and also with the idea of first principles, for it to be new each time: that is our job as musicians. We would talk about this as we traveled playing music. One day a waitress heard us talking, and she asked if we knew the Camus essay about Sisyphus. We didn’t, but I got it in English and then we found it in Greek and it fit too. When we were playing in Louisville and working on Black Peak, we stayed at a house and saw the artwork you see on the cover, by Elsa Hansen Oldham . . .We’d finished the circular trilogy of Goats, Black Peak, and Mother and we found ourselves making –. What we do leads us to who we are, the Sisypheans.”

YELLOW EYES - RARE FIELD CEILING CD / LP
RELIC112
BLURB INFO Rare Field Ceiling is the coldest Yellow Eyes record to date, and it is also the warmest. It is the most inviting, the most alienating, the murkiest and the sharpest, always falling apart and yet held together by a dawning sense that within the thicket is a vision of majestic clarity. But as Rare Field Ceiling climbs and climbs, majesty becomes delusion and clarity becomes mania. Yellow Eyes have always held failure up to the light and found patterns in the glow, but here they trace a doomed arc and, with unnerving focus, follow it to the very end. In the cryptic, labyrinthine tradition of Ved Buens Ende, Fleurety, and early Blut Aus Nord, Yellow Eyes play black metal, uncompromising and unbound. Rare Field Ceiling is the latest statement in an increasingly significant and singular legacy.

FALLS OF RAUROS - PATTERNS IN MYTHOLOGY CD / LP
RELIC119
BLURB INFO The 5th full-length from Falls of Rauros, titled "Patterns in Mythology," is both an expansion upon what was explored on "Vigilance Perennial" and a detour towards another direction entirely. Engineered, mixed, and mastered by Colin Marston at Menegroth, this record became both the heaviest and the most intricately detailed in the band's career without forsaking the foundations the band is built upon; black metal operating in tandem with a melody more often heard in the folk and rock spheres. Thematically "Patterns in Mythology" touches upon the repeated failures of humanity, the subsequent rejection of human myth, and the uncertainty and vulnerability that follows.

+ Numerous glowing reviews at both print and online mags “While Falls of Rauros were once a very successful clone of their forefathers, they have since grown primarily by drawing their influences from outside metal. By doing so they’ve intertwined a sound inherently connected to alternative rock of the 1990s with American black metal to create a sound that is blossoming into something all their own.” - Last Rites “The unifying element of the black, doom and power metal aspects of Falls of Rauros’ sound on Patterns in Mythology, as well as the post-rock and prog, is that of grandeur. In terms of enunciating that buried sense of hope one feels when gazing at the ruined stones of history rich in dreaming of a more perfect world, Patterns in Mythology is Falls of Rauros’ best.” - Treble Zine “In what is already a ridiculously strong year for metal, Falls of Rauros arrive on the scene with an album that can confidently expect to be on end of year lists. I don’t know what dark ritual Gilead Media has performed to assemble so many wonderful albums in such a short period, but in a year of winners, this is easily another.” - Nine Circles

• CD & LP • LTD Indie Exclusive Cream Vinyl • Album release shows in Mexico City and Austin, TX at the Levitation Music Festival. • December West Coast tour. As a mournful whistle carves through fevered melancholia, the first stirrings of No Justice’s title track evoke the mean streets and rusted prairies of a blighted small folk roiling with palpable desperation. Embracing the enormous scope of orchestral cinematic production while subduing the bombast of electrified riffage, longtime Brian Jonestown Massacre bassist Collin Hegna has honed a taut, gleaming precision from his passion project’s signature sound. When his honeyed baritone waltzes with the operatic wizardry of bandmate Maria Karlin, the finely-etched lyrical depths fortify Federale’s cinematic sway. Spare yet sumptuous, distilling the lean, gritty essence of grindhouse anomie and wielding orchestral flourishes of widescreen delicacy, No Justice feels like the defining statement of a band fully-realized – a sultry, restless stormcloud arising from the darkness at the edge of town to draw forth the fated reckoning. +++++++++++++++++ Federale has always told stories through music, of course, but fans hadn’t much opportunity to parse lyrics within the band’s first two albums. La Rayar: A Tale of Revenge (2008) and Devil in a Boot (2009) spun blood-soaked yarns through music alone – concertedly-cinematic soundscapes of rumbling riffs, plaintive whistling, and soaring soprano vocals soundtracked the most captivating spaghetti westerns that never were. Hegna, already entrenched within the Brian Jonestown Massacre and soon to become longest-tenured bassist of Anton Newcombe’s famously-troubled psych-rock revue, made clear from the start that Federale existed purely as an instrumental project. Still, certain projects defy even the strictest of boundaries. Three years later, The Blood Flowed Like Wine (2012) brought along guest appearances from frontmen KP (Spindrift) Thomas and Alex (Black Angels) Maas. After a string of notable shows -- The Fillmore, Crystal Ballroom, Henry Fonda Theater -- they earned a reputation for live performance, and Hegna took to the mic himself for much of 2016’s All The Colours Of The Dark. By now, learning that No Justice contains only a pair of vocal-less tunes shouldn’t seem any more surprising than news that its release has been scheduled for Mexico City – first stop along a summer filled with festival appearances up the west coast from Austin to Seattle. (The Portland, OR hometown faithful must wait til November 23rd for Portland’s No Justice show at Mississippi Studios.) Embracing the enormous scope of orchestral cinematic production courtesy of members of the Oregon Symphony, Federale has honed a taut, gleaming precision from their signature sound. When Collin Hegna’s honeyed baritone waltzes with the operatic wizardry of bandmate Maria Karlin, the finely-etched lyrical depths fortify Federale’s cinematic sway. With ‘Trouble’, the album’s single, Hegna imagined a Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra song put together with a Serge Gainsbourg duet. I just started playing around with these two concepts, and this weirdly interesting mix came out – as if Lee Hazelwood was singing with Jane Birkin. The song fully switches from 70s cowboyish into full-on Gainsbourg. The femme fatale, Maria, even sings the lyrics in French – I went that far.”

• Luke Ydstie and Kati Claborn from Blind Pilot • Features Halli Anderson of River Whyless • Touring late September through late October 2019
For their sophomore effort, you can’t accuse The Hackles of making the same album twice. The duo is comprised of Kati Claborn and Luke Ydstie, both core members of the band Blind Pilot. In The Hackles, they are put on full display showcasing their highly refined songwriting and awe-inspiring harmonization, the result of countless hours honing their craft in vans, on stages, and at their kitchen table. Their first LP, The Twilight’s Calling It Quits, was a sparse affair recorded in a living room, mostly live, to an unpredictable reel to reel tape machine. This time, armed with an abundance of ideas, instruments, and help from friends in the rich local music community, they settled into The Rope Room, a brand new studio housed in an old YMCA building in their hometown of Astoria, Oregon. A Dobritch Did As A Dobritch Should contains the same smart, melodic, moving songwriting that made Twilight such a beautiful debut, but this round they brought in drums and fleshed out the songs with Luke’s trademark melodic bass lines, Kati’s textured instrumental hooks, plenty of tape delays and studio shenanigans and a whole slew of gorgeous instrumentation. The album starts with a stunner in Seven Lies which features lush strings reminiscent of 1970’s artists such as Nick Drake and Judee Sill. It’s a haunting song, one that draws you in and ensures the needle is there to stay for awhile. The infectious single, Dominoes, starts with an alluring guitar riff, then descends into harmonized vocals (with Kati & Luke joined by Halli Anderson of River Whyless) that drive the song all the way to the end, never letting up, never letting you go. As to the title of the record, Al Dobritch was a circus man, running rings from Bulgaria to Las Vegas. His is a story of the collision of will and circumstance, the choices we make and those that are made for us, and is told in the song And The Show Goes On. These themes inhabit the album and the characters within- the lover, the harassed, the undocumented, the lion. Through these characters and their stories, The Hackles process the world around us and how we came to be here. The album is a voyage; a road trip that doesn’t want a destination.

Erin Harpe and the Delta Swingers The Christmas Swing
Erin Harpe & the Delta Swingers are releasing their first ever holiday album, THE CHRISTMAS SWING, on their own Juicy Juju label, through the VizzTone Label Group. Following up their acclaimed 2017 sophomore album, BIG ROAD, the new holiday album is a fun seasonal romp chock full of hooky blues-guitar-fueled gems.
CHRISTMAS SWING features Erin’s songs and her arrangements of traditionals and songs by Chuck Berry, Bessie Smith, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Leadbelly and Bo Carter. Title track “The Christmas Swing” is a re-working of their 2014 hit “The Delta Swing,” co-penned with special guest Richard Rosenblatt (who also lends harmonica). Erin’s guitar playing shines as she plays a number of different styles, ranging from acoustic fingerstyle on Bessie Smith’s “At the Christmas Ball” (a duet with pianist John Juxo), to the raw electric guitar on Lightnin’ Hopkins’ “Merry Christmas”, to the early rock n’ roll licks of Chuck Berry’s “Run Run Rudolph.” Her well-known kazoo also makes an appearance on the Smith tune and the (not really holiday-themed, but festive) Bo Carter number “Drink and Get Drunk”, as well as on closer Auld Lang Syne.
STREET DATE: 11/8/19
The record features Erin Harpe on electric, slide and acoustic guitars and vocals, as well as kazoo and percussion; Jim Countryman on bass, claps, and snaps; Matt “Charles” Prozialeck on harmonicas; and Chris Anzalone (Roomful of Blues) on drums and percussion, with special guests John Juxo on piano and Richard Rosenblatt on harmonica. “We had a lot of fun making this album. It’s a holiday album for music fans that don’t necessarily like Christmas music,” declares Erin, “it’s just good music, that will make your holidays more fun!” Whether you celebrate Christmas, or just like holiday music, Erin guarantees fans will love this non-traditional take on Christmas music!

1. Summer Your Eyes Out 2. Harbor And Rail 3. See No Globe 4. Who Will Sing Your Name 5. Arrowheads 6. Hydras Again 7. Isotopes 8. Home Fires 9. Snow Days Sales Points: With “Coma To Coma”, United Waters continues even further down the road of the perfect melted song. Chords drip and flow into each other at a pace equal to honey at 35 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s this viscosity that sets United Waters apart from any other band that engages in the song-form. Achievement obtained not by the newest pedals or computer effects, but by playing slightly out of this dimension. It’s as if the band discovered one of those theoretical multiverses, perhaps one named ‘All Things Are Sticky’, and slip back and forth between there and here in order to write their music. It’s a sound completely unique yet a sound you knew existed without ever having heard it before. Years ago, guitarist Brian Sullivan was most well-known for his ability to turn sound waves into great, leveling forces of sonic annihilation with his band Mouthus. Yet even there, we heard this nascent sound of the melted song hiding inside crushing volume. With United Waters, Brian brings the song forward and allows it to reveal itself to be the true driving force of his music. Where as in Mouthus the song-form hid underneath intimidating levels of volume, in United Waters the song-form transfigures into a new body that reveals new energies with subtle lines of force. “Coma To Coma” takes that new body and refines it even further than their previous records. Imagine the painter Francis Bacon sonically slicing and transmogrifying the songs on Lindsey Buckingham’s Law And Order and you will begin to orient yourself to the sound of “Coma to Coma.” I’ve been trying to think of a word or phrase that best describes “Coma To Coma” and as far as I can tell it doesn’t exist. It would have to be something that meant melancholic but without any hint of sadness and simultaneously shot through with bliss. It would imply a sense of time that flows and rejects segmentation. It would signify a feeling of completeness. In lieu of such a word or phrase, I predict the title of this record soon becomes a used phrase to convey such a feeling among its listeners. One can imagine sitting alone in the grass at sunset and getting a text from a friend inquiring, “how you doin?” and replying, “Coma To Coma.” In the cabinet in my mind where I store files on things I don’t understand, there’s a hefty one on United Waters. How do they compose music that sounds so flowing yet all play in time together? How does one write melodies that sound so classic yet manage to evoke new emotions? Why does Brian sound so cool when he sings? How does the percussion sound both electronic yet totally organic? These are some of the notes I’ve scribbled in my United Waters file. “Coma To Coma” does nothing to answer any of my questions and in fact might even raise a few more, the biggest one being: Why are United Waters not the popular band in the world right now? - Ben Chasny (Six Organs Of Admittance), McKinleyville, CA 2019
- 4th album from Brooklyn’s United Waters. - “United Waters deftly ride a line between subtlety and tension, doing enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, even if that seat feels pretty comfortable. Marc Masters.” (Marc Masters for The Wire) - “In some alternate universe...,” United Waters could be considered “pop…, although that might be quite a stretch for those who envision the present day version of pop to be auditory opium for the masses.” (Tony Rettman for The Wire) - On United Waters, “You’ll find your guard slowly dissipating and before the cold water takes your breath, you’ll find yourself underneath and deaf to the world you once knew.” (Justin Spicer for KEXP) - United Waters are “for the dusk hours, for the late nights.” (Robert Ham for Paste Magazine) - United Waters is “A hypnotic listening experience.” (J. Hubner) - Most highly recommended for fans of hefty hemp-fueled experimental pop records. SCOTT KINSEY WE SPEAK LUNIWAZ - THE MUSIC OF JOE ZAWINUL Widely known as one of the most skilled keyboard players of his generation, Scott Kinsey is also one of the foremost interpreters of Joe Zawinul's rich musical legacy. As musical director of the Zawinul Legacy Band, Kinsey has delivered electrifying performances in celebration of Zawinul's ground-breaking work with Weather Report and the Zawinul Syndicate. Label: WHIRLWIND RECORDINGS Cat. No: WR4743 Format: CD Barcode: 7061119467118 Label: WHIRLWIND RECORDINGS Cat. No: WR4743LP Format: LP2 Barcode: 7061112523125
On 'We Speak Luniwaz', his Whirlwind Recordings debut, Kinsey brings his expertise to bear on re-imaginings of seven scintillating Zawinul compositions, plus one by Wayne Shorter and two originals. Joined by electric bass phenom Hadrien Feraud, saxophone/flute master Katisse Buckingham and Hungarian drummer Gergo Borlai, this accomplished crew generates sparkling energy and percolating grooves on entrancing Zawinul fare like "Black Market" (Black Market, 1976), "Fast City" (Night Passage, 1980) and for the funky "Cucumber Slumber," (Mysterious Traveler, 1974), Kinsey showcases Buckingham's skills as rapper with a testimony to Joe in a segment titled "World Citizen." Special guests on this dynamic project include former Yellowjackets bassist Jimmy Haslip, former Weather Report percussionist Robert Thomas Jr., former Zawinul Syndicate percussionist Arto Tun boyaciyan and former Zawinul Syndicate drummer Michael Baker. Like Kinsey, they all speak Luniwaz. A prolific composer and imaginative improviser, Kinsey collaborated with the likes of John McLaughlin, Alphonso Johnson, Robben Ford, Dennis Chambers, Peter Erskine, Bill Evans, Oz Noy, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Tim Lefebvre, Thundercat, Flying Lotus and many others. The legendary composer and producer Bob Belden said: "Scott Kinsey has taken the language of the synthesizer to the highest level in our modern times, as he is the first generation of keyboardists who developed electronically as opposed to the acousticcentric classic piano model." Kinsey continues to push the envelope in exhilarating ways on his outstanding new release, 'We Speak Luniwaz'.

HIOR CHRONIK BLIND HEAVEN Seductive drone and post cinematic soundscapes between ambient, indie-neoclassical music. These are the best words to describe the vibes of the new album by the Greek/Berliner composer Hior Chronik, entitled “Blind Heaven” out on November 8th via 7K! - !K7. There is a dark and cinematic atmosphere that chases throughout the new album by the Greek composer and producer Hior Chronik, a natural sequel to "Out Of The Dust", released on 7K! in 2017. While retaining an ambient and modern-classic dimension, "Blind Heaven" goes in search of new territories to observe and interpret. Sound landscapes made of synthesizers, electronics, strings, woodwinds and above all magical touches of the piano, so minimal as they are brilliant in their being perfectly integrated into the sonic trajectories traced by the Athens-born artist who has lived in Berlin for several years. Track after track "Blind Heaven" reveals itself by involving the listener in a particularly evocative and immersive multi-stage sound journey: Nocturne, crepuscular, foggy, the record moves in neighboring territories without delineating a precise and static form: the sound moves
magmatic, it is discovered, it hides, it explodes, it shrinks and once again it frees itself to cross extremely natural and peaceful landscapes, as well as darker, industrial, apocalyptic, noisy and powerful worlds. Storm, then quiet again, but a stillness crossed by splinters and flashes clearly visible in the distance. Created between the autumn and winter of 2019 in Berlin, mixed and mastered in Athens by John Valasis (already at the mix for the previous "Out Of The Dust"), "Blind Heaven" confirms Hior Chronik as one of the main names of the scene poised between the electronic-ambient world and that of modern classic minimalism. Proof of this are the prestigious feature of the album: from the Japanese by Erased Tapes, Masayoshi Fujita (vibraphone in "Blanket"), to the Polish pianist Hania Rani, who for a long time accompanied Hior Chronik on tour and whom we see here on the piano in "Words Are Gone", the producer and sound engineer Francesco Donadello, to the modular synths in "One Eternity At The Time", up to the New York artist Amber Ortolano, voice in "Beneath".

San Francisco-based multimedia artist, composer, and improviser Jon Leidecker makes music under the pseudonym Wobbly. He currently records and tours with seminal experimental group Negativland, and with the Thurston Moore Ensemble. Over the course of a varied musical practice that began in the mid-1980s, Wobbly has collaborated with artists including Matmos, Dieter Moebius (Cluster), Tania Chen, Fred Frith, Tim Story, Thomas Dimuzio, David Toop, Zeena Parkins, and People Like Us. Leidecker has released recordings on labels like Illegal Art, Important Records, Bureau B, and Tigerbeat6. His podcast Variations, which explores the history of sampling and collage music, was originally commissioned by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona in 2009 before evolving into a lecture series at Mills, Stanford, Oxford, and Peabody Conservatory. After contributing extensively to Negativland’s live-mix radio program Over The Edge, spearheaded by the late Don Joyce and broadcast from Berkeley’s KPFA FM, Leidecker inherited the program in 2015. “Wobbly’s method melts rhythms into viscous masses of static ridden digital signal processing. Where he samples full breakbeats, he sets them into skittering repetitions that quickly slip out of time, and the portions of his songs that do maintain any kind of timekeeping, for five or 10 seconds at best, seem more designed to subvert the structure of the beatless parts than to develop anything like a groove...” - The Wire
the long-gestating album represents the first physical release of a Wobbly solo work since 2002. To create the takes that populate the album, Leidecker developed a process that exploits an arsenal of software on devices like iPads and iPhones. Mobile applications generate MIDI information from the external audio that Wobbly feeds into them, and then he retranslates and synthesizes that data into mutated semblances of songs. Given a chunk of audio as source material, these devices join together to produce densely stacked unison melodies, or spiral out of control when presented with complex polyphonies. In practice, Monitress explodes into every direction at once. Wobbly’s pieces highlight hyper-detailed rhythmic grids built over spastic, bludgeoning drum tones, unpredictable chromatic lead lines, and swathes of cybernetic noise texture. Most of his tracks prove completely unable to sit still for any amount of time as they speed through fast-shifting narratives of spontaneous electronic bursts and beats that crumble into dust before reshaping themselves into expanses of queasy atonality. When Leidecker dials back the manic energy and allows his machines to sink into a state of ambient drift, surprisingly melodious fields of sound emerge that maintain the album’s high-definition digital timbral palette while blossoming into rich harmonic structures. Though created primarily with randomizing and disfiguring processes, Monitress feels unquestionably human and openly humorous, as Wobbly’s approach to process-based composition and improvisation remains rooted in a sense of playfulness and bliss far from the surgical sterility that often characterizes music in this style. Conceived primarily for live performances that allow a network of devices to “sing along” and react to each other, the recorded version of Monitress began in the form of improvisations on keyboards and touchscreens, which later became foundations from which to trigger additional layers of machine-enabled ornamentation. The improbably intricate and gleefully chaotic pieces that make up Monitress fall into place as Wobbly’s gadgets listen to each other sympathetically, or produce happy accidents when they are unable to “faithfully” process what they’re asked to. While the album fits within the realms of glitch music, improvised electronics, and collagebased recording that Leidecker has explored across his career, the plunderphonic processes of Monitress exploit modern mobile technology and render pre-existing audio into its most fragmented and disfigured forms. At the same time, the process calls back to the origins of Wobbly’s sound sources in the kernels of melody, rhythm, and harmony that come to roughly shape his pieces.

Born on the streets of India, with roots around the globe, Calico Soul is the debut album of Farafi. A nomadic duo, whose music is based on authentic vocals and percussive sound. Joy and Darlini have drawn inspiration from their travels to create an eclectic collection of sounds inspired by traditional African, Middle Eastern, Indian and Western contemporary music. Their songs vary from heartfelt to upbeat dancing styles. Farafi sing in their own language as well as several African languages, showcasing limitless ways of creating, to reach the depths of all humans. Darlini: We met in the state of Goa on the West coast of India, in a little town called Arambol. We first sang acapella, just the two of us. In Arambol, people meet easily and come to create spontaneously. Over time a vibrant platform of international artists joined in and brought their colours to the project. Joy: The friends I made in this magical place are still very close to me. In fact, many of them are featured on this album and continue to support us throughout this adventure. Darlini Singh Kaul and Joy Tyson were raised by musical families. Right from their childhood, they were keen on visiting unfamiliar worlds both in real life and their imagination. Darlini was born in London, with Indian-French roots. She went to a French conservatoire, later on, she studied theatre and dance in the UK. Joy, whose family comes from Eastern Europe, grew up in Clearwater, Florida. When she was 17, she moved to the West Coast to raise dairy goats and study sustainable living in a community in California. The two women were united by their shared love for African music. From their early beginnings in Goa, they were surrounded by an enthusiastic community of musicians who explored different music traditions, such as Indian classical, Turkish and Arabic maqam. Of course, they were inspired by Western jazzcats as well. When it came to naming their band, the duo drew inspiration from the West African Bambara term ‘Farafina’, meaning the ‘land of the black skin.’ In addition to their own, wildly creative ‘farafish’ language, African vernaculars are key to Farafi’s way of singing.

Darlini: Calico is a fabric from southwest India. It is made from not fully processed cotton, resulting in a raw quality. Just like our music. Joy: We bring our unprocessed selves to serve the music. Weaving together the magic and inspirations of many different cultures, people and places on our way. Joy and Darlini have travelled the world. Now that they consider Berlin their new home, they teamed up with local label Piranha Records – Kreuzberg’s outpost to send messages from the global underground. After two official bootlegs, the time is right to release Farafi’s debut album. Calico Soul is the poetry of two free-spirited women, joining their voices together with a world-bound, cosmopolitan sound. Calico Soul is a timeless message of hope, togetherness and freedom.
Joy: We resonate with the phonetics of Zulu, Xhosa, Swahili and Yoruba. We often translate English lyrics to multiple languages, and then look at what phrasing fits best for what we have to say. Darlini: When I was a kid, I felt limited by English and French. As I started to sing African songs, a language I had no intellectual reference to, it made me look at the notion of invented languages as a tool to compose purely on a phonetic aspect. This allowed me to express feelings that were beyond a language and sing straight from my heart. The heart of Farafi is a duo, with both women singing. Joy plays the cajon, Moroccan krakebs and frame drum, Darlini the West African ngoni, the kashaka and Indian ghungroos. There are exhilarating percussion tracks such as Ey Budida and enchanting acoustic ballads like Sembere. Farafi can extend to as much as a live eight-piece band, creating songs like the female warrior chant Djanya Wofu, an unadulterated blues power. Darlini and Joy encourage every listener to feel the beauty of expression and celebration, with a natural power that resonates in the album title Calico Soul.

PAT LOVE WILL FIND A WAY HOME A collaboration between artist Jacolby Satterwhite and musician Nick Weiss—one-half of Teengirl Fantasy—PAT takes its name from Satterwhite’s mother Patricia, who suffered from schizophrenia and died in 2016. She left behind hundreds of a capella recordings on cassette tapes as well as abstract drawings of home goods, such as wet wipes, sugar cubes, and toothbrushes. Incorporating her recordings into their work, Satterwhite and Weiss remixed and manipulated Patricia’s voice into propulsive, electronic dance tracks featuring a range of other collaborators. Inspired by projects like Tricky’s album Maxinequay—which, like Love will find a way home, is based partly on the artist’s relationship with their deceased mother—and Daft Punk’s feature-length animated film Interstella 5555, which was released with their recording Discovery, Love will find a way home will coincide with Satterwhite’s Pioneer Works exhibition You’re at home, opening on October 4, 2019. It will feature a cover shot by Wolfgang Tillmans and a booklet containing Patricia lyrics and drawings, as well as images of the cassette tapes and ephemera she left behind. Love will find a way home is, like Interstella 5555, similarly multi-pronged; it is both a fullyproduced album of its own and a score for a related, four-part animated series of films, Birds in Paradise.

VINYL When he stepped onto the Austin City Limits stage for the very first time on that brisk January day in 1978, Merle Haggard was at the top of his game. It had been over a decade since his first national hit, “Sing A Sad Song,” and not that long after “Okie from Muskogee” had firmly planted his music in the public consciousness. He had already been declared “Entertainer of the Year” by both the Country Music Awards and Academy of Country Music – in the same year (1970). He had just released A Tribute to the Best Damn Fiddle Player in the World (Or My Salute to Bob Wills), which sparked a revival of interest in western swing. And with his band, The Strangers, it’s no stretch to say that he had the best live show in country music of his day.

I’ve Always Been Crazy Looking back, why did it take ten years to finally lure Waylon Jennings to the Austin City Limits stage for his first performance? Like everything else about the man, he did things his own way - when he was damn good and ready. Maybe it had something to do with that other Texas singer, that Red-Headed Stranger who shook things up in Austin and country music in general. Waylon wasn’t sure what the fuss was all about (as he sang, “It don’t matter who’s in Austin, Bob Wills is STILL the King!”).

JOHNNY CASH & WILLIE NELSON Live from Austin, TX STREET DATE: November 15, 2019
January 3, 1987 was a milestone in Austin City Limits history. One of the few individuals in the world of music who truly deserves the title of “legend” set foot onto the ACL stage and the result was magic. The legend, of course, was Johnny Cash, and he delivered what even he considered to be one of his finest television performances. Over many decades his name was synonymous with country music around the world but, of course, his larger-than-life influence went way beyond any one musical genre. His songs, his persona, the very essence of his being reached the hearts and souls of presidents, popes and lifers doing time at San Quentin… and the rest of us as well. This show captures it all, and it is a dream-come-true to be able to present the original, unedited performance. As Mr. Cash himself told me backstage moments before, “Doing this show means a lot to me because it’s all about the music.” God bless you, Johnny Cash. - Terry Lickona (producer Austin City Limits®)

There would be no Austin City Limits were it not for Willie Nelson. He started it all in 1974, performing on the original pilot episode, and has been a large part of ACL history ever since. He’s appeared on more programs than any single artist, but this particular show (recorded on September 6, 1990) captures him and the family band at their best. It’s all here, all the Willie classics, his signature songs and fan favorites. His trusty guitar, “Trigger,” and that voice, that unique phrasing, that makes Willie Nelson one of the world’s most original singers, whether he’s wailing the blues, honky tonkin,’ crooning pop standards or rockin’ the house. Everybody knows the story: the boy from Abbott, Texas who grew up playing music with his sister Bobbie, who moved to Nashville to stake his claim, but after years of writing classic songs for other artists (“Crazy,” ”Night Life,” “Funny How Time Slips Away”), got tired of playing the game and moved back to Texas. He chose Austin as his new home, and nothing has been the same ever since. This performance shows Willie at the top of his game. Back then he truly was and still is the “King of Country.” - Terry Lickona (producer Austin City Limits®)

When it comes to indiepop, few names are as respected as Ric Menck and Paul Chastain. Through years of collaboration in groups such as Velvet Crush, Bag O' Shells, Choo Choo Train and The Big Maybe they just about *were* the entire US indiepop scene, but it's as The Springfields that they made perhaps their best, most beloved records. Taking their cues from influences like The Byrds and The Hollies, they created a sound that was as jangly and melodic as their inspirations, marked by a unique songwriting voice, excellent tunes, and sterling arrangements. Singles 1986-1991 collects the 5 singles The Springfields released on Sarah, Picture Book, Summershine and Seminal Twang and adds one extra tune, here on vinyl for the first time. From the Paisley Underground-aligned opener "This Perfect Day" through the perfect pop of songs like “Sunflower," The Springfields created a compact, flawless catalog that more than justifies its legendary status and this timely reissue. Add in a clutch of savvy covers of songs by Matthew Sweet, The Pastels, The Clouds and Primal Scream and we have a time capsule of pop history that is as fresh-sounding as when these recordings were made 30 years ago. HAMMOCK ‘SILENCIA’
STREET DATE: 11/15/2019 Silencia is the latest collection of evocative and lustrous compositions by the Nashville duo Hammock. The band’s 10th LP, Silencia closes a trilogy that began with 2017’s Mysterium, and—in the tradition of works by Arvo Pärt and Georgy Sviridov, and writers such as Li-Young Li and George Prochnik—it is a balm, gesturing at the healing that can ascend in silence. Slow-churning and contemplative, Silencia most prominently features strings orchestrated by Viktor Orri Árnason (Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds), mists of guitar by Hammock’s Marc Byrd and Andrew Thompson, the hushed drone of horns, and 20 elegiac voices from the Budapest Art Choir. The record was mixed and mastered by Francesco Donadello (Winged Victory for the Sullen, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Ben Frost) in Berlin. Founded in 2003, Hammock’s music has appeared widely in film and television, most recently in Ricky Gervais’s “After Life”, and it has been praised by The Wire, Pitchfork, NPR, The Atlantic, and other major culture media.

“Full of sharp, sweet insight and heart-tugging hooks.” - Rolling Stone “The type of music that you can imagine getting sentimental about years from now, rock songs that will make you feel both homesick for who you were and excited about who you might become.” - The Fader “Ecstatic and earnest pop-punk” - NPR Music “Perfect slices of adolescent punk, full of clever and biting songs with catchy hooks and a whole lot to say. ” - Stereogum
FOR FANS OF WAXAHATCHEE, HOP ALONG, TACOCAT • First time on CD & Vinyl! • Baby Pink vinyl color, limited to 500 • Remastered version of their 2014 debut • Features eight bonus songs including demos & alternate versions • Includes 20 page memory book When Remember Sports recorded Sunchokes in 2014 while Carmen Perry (vocals, guitar), Catherine Dwyer (guitar), Benji Dossetter (drums) and James Karlin (bass) attended Kenyon College in Gambier, OH, they had no intention of pursuing music seriously. It was recorded with the wide-eyed optimism of making a record for the sake of it. To create something they could share with their friends. To make something they could simply look back on. The band – then called Sports – started in 2012, coming up through the pocket of their folk and DIY punk scene. Carmen Perry cites Dave Garwacke’s Pink Couch Sessions as a catalyst for Remember Sports’ much-loved lo-fi sound, commenting on the purity of that first LP. “We made Sunchokes because we loved playing those songs and we loved playing music together,” she says. “It's a really special record. It's nice to remember how far you've come.”
FILE UNDER: ROCK/POP
Quietly released on Bandcamp, Sunchokes gained traction through word of mouth and social media. Now, five years later, following the departure of Dossetter and Karlin and addition of Jack Washburn (guitar) and Connor Perry (drums), Sunchokes has been remastered – by band friend Lucas Knapp – for a special anniversary release, on vinyl and CD for the first time ever. The remastered album also includes eight bonus songs including a few original demos and Addie Pray (Carmen's solo project) versions of the songs. Perry jokes that the demos “don’t sound too good” but affirms the nostalgic importance of cementing those special first few years as a band. “A lot of the songs were ones that I had recorded myself before we started the band, put out on Bandcamp and made CD's and stuff by hand.”

A twenty page memory book, featuring playlists, photos and more, will also accompany the release. “This whole process has been sort of like a trip down memory lane, going through old photos and old emails,” Perry continues. “It is like a diary...it’s funny looking back on certain songs and remembering how I was feeling when I wrote them. Having them on a record, it's a nice way to reconnect with your past self.”

uerilla Toss returns to NNA Tapes with a brand new EP, What Would The Odd Do?, an exploration into new territories and an expansion on their recipe for twisted, addictive rock & roll mania: fried funk, damaged dance, and cosmic cacophony. Fans of 70’s prog and rock greats like King Crimson and Todd Rundgren as well as modern torchbearers like Sheer Mag and Deerhoof will be joyfully united by GT’s uniquely familiar world of wonder and excitement. For Kassie Carlson — singer, songwriter, and bandleader of Guerilla Toss — What Would The Odd Do? is unarguably the group’s most personal release in their impressive history as a musicmaking collective. After openheart surgery in 2017 to remove a dangerous blood clot caused by a severe opiate addiction, Carlson has found a new joy in life. She has since cleaned up for good, moved to Upstate New York with her partner and Guerilla Toss drummer, Peter Negroponte, and has never felt more inspired. Kassie Carlson is a true poet of punk, the voice of an unheard generation, the leader of The Odd.

And once the listener cracks the code, they’ll be immersed in a uniquely familiar world of wonder and excitement. What will unite us more than to celebrate the absurd and question what we’ve been told is obvious? Let GT be just one of the many songs among the soundtrack of existential infinity and divine recovery.

The Gathering Dawn is the debut solo album from Hollie Kenniff. The album, which is her first ambient proclamation, displays a sprawling looseness in sharp contrast to her works as one half of Mint Julep with husband Keith Kenniff (Helios, Goldmund). The Gathering Dawn wistfully utilizes glacial synths, blurred out guitars and Hollie's melancholic vocal plumes as a basis. The album finds Hollie effortlessly folding classic ambient motifs in with a minimal modernist brushstrokes. The Gathering Dawn will be out on November 15th on limited edition 180gm pink vinyl and compact disc. For fans of: Grouper, Sea Olena, Julianna Barwick

The history of „Jambú e Os Míticos Sons Da Amazônia“ is the history of an entire city in its full glory. With bustling night clubs providing the best sound systems and erotic live shows, gossip about the whereabouts of legendary bands, singers turned into movie stars, supreme craftiness, and the creativity of a class of musicians that didn’t hesitate to take a gamble. The hip swaying, frantic percussion and big band brass of the mixture of carimbó with siriá, the mystical melodies of Amazonian drums, the hypnotizing cadence of the choirs, and the deep, musical reverence to Afro-Brazilian religions, provided the soundtrack for sweltering nights in the city’s club district. The music and tales found in Jambú are stories of resilience, triumph against all odds, and, most importantly, of a city in the borders of the Amazon who has always known how to throw a damn good party.

FAY VICTOR BARN SONGS
Catalog #: NS 121
W hen Fay Victor found herself struggling to break
into New York City’s jazz scene in the ‘90s, the singer and composer took a gamble on moving to Amsterdam to reinvent herself. By day, she’d ride her bike to the library and pick up albums and sheet music to play on her piano at home. During nights, she immersed herself in the city’s vivid avant-garde music clubs and venues—a move that transformed Victor from a straight ahead jazz singer into a daring vocal improviser. Over 20 years later, Victor has revisited these Amsterdam compositions for Barn Songs , her tenth album as a bandleader. Recoding alongside cellist Marika Hughes and alto saxophonist Darius Jones, the experimental project came to fruition in a tumbledown barn Hughes owns in the northern foothills of the bucolic Catskills Mountains. The trio turned the building into an organic recording compound for three days, complete with passings birds and squirrels adding naturalistic ambience to the mix. Remarkably, the songs Victor wrote while living another life in another country reveal themselves to be prescient commentary on the modern way we live today.

Ziúr's 2017 debut album for Planet Mu/Objects Limited ‘U Feel Anything?’ was widely praised. It was both maximal and graceful, thoughtful but physical music that came out of the 'anything goes' approach of certain club nights she was involved with in Berlin and stood head and shoulders above other music coming out of the city’s club scene.
01 ATØ 02 It's Complicated 03 I Vanish 04 Fancy Handbag, Broken Zipper 05 F.O.E. (ft. Ash B) 06 Catch Me Never 07 Life Sick 08 All Lessons Unlearned (ft. Samantha Urbani) 09 Laniakea 10 Unclaim 11 Mother
Since then Ziúr has clearly been working hard, and on 'ATØ' she has developed a sophisticated toolbox of sounds from which this album is produced. Its rush of clear electronic beeps and tones, crunchy drums and cold metallic stabs share space alongside bell tones and marimba, dhol drums, r&b melodies and rich strings, as if the gritty distortion of ‘U Feel Anything?’ has given way to a bloom of colour. As a songwriter, Ziúr’s work on 'ATØ' has really grown. The songs could be loosely described as left-field pop, but like all her music there is a steely undertow of determined strength. The album features some key surrogates in the shape of singer and producer Samantha Urbani of the band ‘Friends’ and rapper Ash B, who lays down a gravelly response to betrayal on F.O.E (Friendship Over Ego). What’s even more unique about the album is that Ziúr pops up multiple times singing, her voice transformed through effects into a different character every time. On the lead track 'ATØ' her vocals are pitched down to feel like she’s a wise, otherworldly force, or the ghostly childlike voice transmitted on ‘I Vanish’, the swooning tones of Life Sick, or on the last track ‘Mother’ where she intones in her own untreated voice. 'ATØ' has a purpose laid out in its title. Ziúr describes 'ATØ' as a network of intersectional support, a network of mesh to help us through these dark oppressive times: it’s ‘THE ALLIANCE TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD’. The album was made in her words "in support of all people who struggle finding a place in this world, who are having trouble being respected AND celebrated for who they are. For everyone, who is part of resisting the status quo, for all survivors, outcasts and weirdos. For people who fight for their existence, every day." The record is here to celebrate respect, human rights, love, intersectionality, change, pushing boundaries, bravery, critical thought, genuine support and curiosity. She says of the album, "This Record is not here to please, but to disrupt & to connect us in Solidarity."

Gabriel Birnbaum Not Alone // November 15, 2019 A perpetual outsider and working musician since his teens who’s spent more birthdays than not sleeping on a floor far from home, Gabriel Birnbaum (of Wilder Maker and Debo Band) steps out under his own name for the first time on Not Alone, an LP of songs inspired by the brilliant session players in the Wrecking Crew and their contributions to LPs like Jim Sullivan’s U.F.O. and John Phillips’ John the Wolfking of L.A. After years of chasing the dream and narrowly escaping a season of terrifyingly catatonic depression, Birnbaum bought himself a birthday present—a few days in the studio with a top notch band of good friends. A few months later, newly in love and feeling like a man saved by a last minute pardon, he cut the LP in your hands—nine songs of classic American music straight from the heart, suitable for everyday use. Past Praise: “Gabriel Birnbaum’s vocals are clear and at the center of the proceedings, invested with a grinning Tom Waits-like delivery and an effusive vocal cadence recalling Dylan at his turn-of-going-electric phrase.” -Spin

ACID is a band formed by musicians Imaad Wasif and Jeff Hassay in the sunny depths of Greater Los Angeles. What began as breezy afternoons tinkering in Hassay’s studio yielded 3 albums done in one 9 month haze of knob turning, homemade instrument-banging and attempting to achieve some blurry vision of life in the endless dream machine that chugs in likeminded brains as a fevered robot would, glitching away into the long night. Romance, Science Fiction with Acid and Persona hint at the sound of T. Rex sipping Captain Beefheart’s kombucha at Brian Eno’s bonfire where New Order sink their feet in Brian Wilson's sandbox and exhale in a meaningless grunt circa LA1000. All albums will be available on LP for individual sale and as a limited edition box set called the “ACID Box” on Narnack Records. Included with the ACID Box, is the “Mysterious Light,” an L-shaped 1 ¼” X 1” object. It’s about the size, weight and shape of a Starburst candy with a little 1” arm coming out of it that omits purple/blacklight. It is to be placed on the record player’s arm while the record plays, and because of a pigment in the record, it will cause the moving LP to glow a Mysterious Light. Jeff Hassay publishes books under the moniker Stagger Fancy Press. Titles include Andy Kaufman's The Tony Clifton Story, 2012, and Morrissey: Complaints and Apologies, 2014. In 2017 he released Dirt Sounds (Small World Records), a limited edition LP hand-made out of soil from Brian Wilson’s childhood house featured in The Vinyl Factory. As a musician and producer, his releases include Kath Bloom,This Dream of Life, 2017 (Caldo Verde) and Enter Das Ram, 2016 with Rachel Mason (Cleopatra/Practical). Imaad Wasif has released numerous solo albums, the most recent being Dzi (Grey Market, 2017) and Great Eastern Sun (Nomad Eel, 2018). His collaborations include an album with Lou Barlow & The Folk Implosion (Interscope/Domino, 2003), a deathfolk album with Black Mountain’s Stephen McBean, Anarchic Breezes (Outer Battery, 2013), and recording/performing with Karen O and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Emma-Jean Thackray Too Shy 12” One of the hands-down head-bangers of Makaya McCraven’s 2018 release Where We Come From (CHICAGOxLONDON Mixtape) was bubbling London-based producer/composer Emma-Jean Thackray’s contributed track, “Too Shy.” Slotted into the B-side of the DJ-style suite, Makaya’s finishing touch on the mixtape format of the collection meant that we would miss the full extension of Thackray’s work – which was intended, as she originally made it, to run a minute longer than it does on Where We Come From, and also include a half-time outro bonus beat. Being the banger that it is, it seemed appropriate to give Thackray’s original “Too Shy” its own focused format, and hence we (International Anthem) have partnered (once again) with our good friends at Total Refreshment Centre to present this 12” version on limited edition wax. The B-Side of this 12” is a smoking re-work of another cut from the original CHICAGO x LONDON Mixtape, “Run ‘Dem,” courtesy of the one and only Gilles Peterson!
