Alex’s third and fourth albums were originally self-released digitally on his Bandcamp, but received the physical attention they deserved following the release of his breakthrough fifth album DSU, remastered and issued on vinyl in 2015 for the first time.

With three more original albums released since, Alex’s cult-like fanbase, which includes the likes of Frank Ocean, only ever increases, and these records remain firm favourites as more and more fans discover his prolific back catalogue.

Oneohtrix Point Never returns with a new self-titled album, Magic Oneohtrix Point Never, out on October 30th 2020. It is the fourth full-length for Warp Records and follows his last, Age Of (2018). The eponymous title is taken from Lopatin’s original Oneohtrix Point Never moniker - a misheard play on the Boston soft-rock radio station Magic 106.7. Musically, the album takes in all elements of OPN’s output of the last 13 years, from the deconstructed New Age plunderphonics of Replica and R Plus Seven, to the alt rock and chamber pop songwriting of Garden Of Delete and Age Of and the symphonic, cinematic nature of the scores for Uncut Gems, Good Time and his production work for other artists; making self-titling the record both a reference to his roots while entrenched in the present. Lopatin has long been engaged with radio as a mode of aleatory listening. The now defunct “Beautiful Music” format popularized later as “easy listening” and “new age” is one of the many colors heard on MOPN. Lopatin also collages together archival recordings of various American FM station’s “format flips”, in which detourned DJ sign-offs collide with advertisements and self help mantras to form darkly humorous reflections on American music culture. The album structure itself loosely summons the broadcasting logic of radio dayparts, starting in the morning and ending overnight, latticed together with kaleidoscopic, twitchy transformations of sound between the dials.

To mark this year’s Piano Day and as an acknowledgement to these unprecedented circumstances we find ourselves in, Nils Frahm surprised the world with a collection of eight solo piano pieces, titled Empty, made available digitally on March 28. The highly anticipated physical editions on vinyl and CD are set for release via Erased Tapes on October 30, 2020.

Conceived of just before Nils broke his thumb and composed the similarly intimate solo piano album Screws, Empty is a soothing vessel of eight simple and serene pieces originally recorded as the music to a short art film he shot with his friend and film director Benoît Toulemonde. Drifting through emotions from the stark and sobering opener ‘First Defeat’, to the gently euphoric ‘No Step On Wing’ and the contemplative but hopeful closer ‘Black Notes’, with its poignant minute of silence, Empty is a comforting score for these turbulent times.

“When I came back from the hospital with a broken thumb and listened to the recordings, I felt they were unfinished. I decided to put them aside and started to work on my small album, Screws.

Many many other notes of the piano have been struck since these days, and before we all forget about this, I thought it would be a good moment to share these lullabies with you. I hope they help you stay all strong and calm in these days of solitude – despite the hardship, we can discover introspection and reflection unexpectedly. Who knows what it is good for.

If you’re among the legions of Widespread Panic fans, you already know that the band is legendary for never playing the same show twice – or the same song the same way twice. What makes this performance that much more special is the inspiring presence of founding member Michael Houser (whose nickname “Panic” inspired the band’s name), who died of pancreatic cancer less than two years later. As much as anything, this is a celebration of Houser’s life and the sheer joy he brought to a band that became one of the biggest draws on the international concert circuit and created a vibe that makes the Panic experience unique in the pop rock world.

But anybody who knows anything about them knows that Widespread Panic is so much more than just a jam-happy rock band. From the time Houser and John Bell (“JB”) began playing duets around Athens, Georgia, in the early 80’s, their repertoire ranged from early covers of the Grateful Dead and Bob Marley to a host of original songs (among them “Space Wrangler”, included here) that demonstrate, as The Village Voice wrote, “a willingness to dip their collective toe into just about any genre.”

This is classic Widespread Panic, including David Schools on bass, John Hermann on keys, Todd Nance on drums and Domingo Ortiz on percussion.

One look at this show and it’ll quickly become obvious there was something strange going on in the house that night. Yes, it was Halloween, 2000, and the rabid fans went beyond even their usual hard-core delirium.

This was one time the audience almost threatened to steal the show!

From the 1930s until the 1970s a popular form of entertainment, quaintly called, The Ghost (or Spook) Show, enthralled America.

Traveling magicians and illusionists went on the road and added horror elements to their regular (often predictable) stage acts. This appealed to youngsters eager for cheap thrills and chills. The advertising campaigns promised to "scare the yell" out of those "brave" enough to attend, and performances took place mostly at midnight in movie theatres that were decorated with outrageous lobby displays publicizing the shocking and scary things about to be seen - ghosts, ghouls, monsters, gorillas, mad doctors, and some things "so terrifying" that they couldn't even be mentioned. During the course of the night, classic horror movies were shown, and there were contests with corny gimmicks and silly prizes.

How does Something Weird fit in? Well, during 200 l SWV compiled what was to become one of their most popular and beloved DVDs, Monsters Crash the Pajama Party Spook Show Spectacular. It featured over three hours of rare Ghost Show shorts and trailers, radio spot audio, galleries of memorabilia, and commentaries with legendary living Ghostmasters. The folks at SWV were huge Spook Show fans and collected anything related to the subject including original 35mm film trailers as well as radio spots on promotional 4 Ss and magnetic tape. So this was a dream project for them, and something near and dear to their bloody hearts.

Since its release, audio bits from the MCTPPSSS have popped up on radio stations and music compilations. People love them. So it just seemed logical that Something Weird do a Spook Show album. And like our old pal, Jim "The Mad Doctor" Ridenour, we've always believed that horror and rock 'n roll go hand in hand, so what better way than to combine some rarely heard, fiendish surf and garage rock instrumentals with the trailer & radio spot audio and incidental music from the DVD? MEET ME IN THE MIDDLE is the fourth VizzTone release from second-generation finger-style guitarist and singer ERIN HARPE, and her sixth release in the blues genre. Following up a trio of successful albums with her band, Erin Harpe & the Delta Swingers, Erin goes back to her roots in the country blues for this intimate acoustic album, self-produced and recorded in her home studio with husband/bass player Jim Countryman during the pandemic. Recently named 2019’s New England Blues Artist of the Year, Erin grew up learning finger-style guitar from her dad, Neil Harpe, and Piedmont blues luminaries such as John Cephas & Phil Wiggins, John Jackson, and Warner Williams, at Washington DC’s famed Archie’s Barbershop. ARTUR MENEZES FADING AWAY

Artur Menezes is a highly respected award-winning Brazilian blues rock guitarist, currently based in Los Angeles. Menezes infuses his blues with a heavy, melodic rock influence as well funk and the occasional taste of Brazilian rhythm. Menezes headlined numerous festivals and toured across South America, Mexico and the UK before moving to the US in 2016.

He won the Gibson/Albert King Award for Best STREET DATE: 10/30/20 Guitarist at the Blues Foundation’s 2018 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, where he also took third place in the overall competition. In 2019 he was the Grand Prize Winner in a contest promoted by Ernie Ball, winning musical gear and the opportunity to perform at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival.

FADING AWAY, Menezes’s fifth album, showcases his impressive guitar skills as well as his inspired singing and songwriting, with 10 original compositions. The songs develop over inventive chord changes and melody lines that spotlight his strong, natural vocals over a broad range. Produced by Josh Smith in his California studio, the album features guest appearances by Smith as well as Joe Bonamassa, whose style complements Menezes nicely. The guitar tones are distinctive, and the production features complex arrangements including layered guitar and background vocal tracks. Apifera are the latest signing to Stones Throw’s growing roster of jazz innovators. The four musicians have come together for their debut album Overstand.

The group consists of Yuval Havkin aka Rejoicer (keys), Nitai Hershkovits (keys), Amir Bresler (drums) and Yonatan Albalak (bass). Rejoicer has released two albums on Stones Throw. Hershkovits has played in a trio with ECM Records musician Avishai Cohen.

Apifera create organic-sounding structures, harmonies and arrangements intended to reflect the rich variety and equilibrium of the natural world.

Working intuitively, the quartet wrote and recorded Overstand mostly live in just three days, and the final album includes minimal overdubbing.

Drawing on real-life spiritual and psychedelic experiences, often intertwined with nature, as a springboard for their music, Apifera showcases a sound that is free, improvisatory, and live.

Los Angeles' Smokescreens are a group of friends who bonded through a love for New Zealand's Flying Nun label, as well as shared inspirations such as The Velvet Underground, The GoBetweens, The Television Personalities and of course indie pop of all flavors. Their self-titled debut was released to wide acclaim in 2017, and was quickly followed-up with the excellent "Used To Yesterday" in 2018.

Since then they've toured a bit, written a bunch and made some great friends along the way. One new friend and fan is David Kilgour from legendary New Zealand band The Clean, who came to LA to produce Smokescreens' new record A Strange Dream. Recorded with trusted engineer Kyle Mullarky, this terrific album exhibits a band at the very height of their powers, combining their collective talents into a potent set of songs that's been superbly captured by the team of Kilgour and Mullarky.

From the jaunty pop of opener "Fork In The Road" to the rocking "Streets of Despair" and the dreamy "On and On" this is a record that clearly shows a band that knows its way around a timeless guitar riff and aching pop melody. Gorgeous ballads like "Nighttime Skies" and "I Love Only You" add a new depth to Smokescreens' sound, and the cover of Scrotum Poles' DIY classic "Pick The Cats Eyes Out" is perfect, and perfectly fun. Add in an evocative cover painting from Mr. Kilgour and you have a record looks as good as it sounds, and will prove to be compulsive listening for any savvy pop fan.

Lunchbox's Tim Brown and Donna McKean have been making records in their Oakland, California basement for two decades, inspired by 1960s/70s AM-radio pop and TV show theme music, punk, C86, and mod à la the Creation and the Jam. From the sonically-inventive indiepop of The Magic of Sound (1999) to the dub-influenced psychedelia of Evolver (2001) to the critically-acclaimed bubblegum of Lunchbox Loves You (2013), the couple have established a sound all their own.

Their new album for Slumberland, After School Special, finds them at the height of their powers of songcraft and performance. Donna's bass playing stakes out stylistic territory somewhere between Carol Kaye and John Entwhistle while Tim's guitar is equal parts 12-string jangle and clipped Orange Juice-esque funk. Horns by Gary Olson (Ladybug Transistor) and longtime collaborator Jeremy Goody drive the record from beginning to end. Evelyn Davis' delay-drenched keyboards combine with whispers of analog tape feedback to give the record an otherworldly vibe in keeping with its lyrical themes.

There, favorite seasons (autumn) and animals (cats), appear alongside love and death, ghosts and reincarnation. From the shimmering opener "Dream Parade" to the horn-driven mod-pop of "Hide and Seek," the groovy sixties R&B vibe of "I Really Wanna Know" and the haunting male-female vocal stylings of the album-closing title track, the textures shift while the unity of artistic vision remains. Catchy as hell and beautifully packaged, After School Special is Lunchbox at their very best.

Acclaimed American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick is set to release his new solo album Blackberry on 28th August via Erased Tapes. This is a digital surprise release with the physical release following on October 30. Blackberry is Peter’s first vocal album in five years, since 2015’s Colours of the Night. The entire album was recorded in Peter’s bedroom in London during the summer of 2019, hence Peter’s description of it as “Experimental-Bedroom-Folk-Pop”. All instrumentation is by Peter with additional vocals on the last track by his wife, singer Brigid Mae Power, and his stepson, Seán Power.

The subject matter of Blackberry is wide-ranging. He touches on family and on the connection we all need as social animals. He writes about technology and whether it will save or doom us. And of course, he writes about nature, about foraging, about the importance of engaging with the outside world in cities and in the country. Peter and his family recently returned to Co. Galway as they have a great love for the Irish countryside, having lived there before their move to London in 2019.

Peter explains the idea behind the album and its name, saying: “It is with all seriousness and great reverence that this album is named Blackberry. In a time when us humans are coming face to face with the impact of our actions on the environment at large, I strongly advocate for engaging with our local landscapes. When I first became obsessed with foraging edible wild plants a few years back, I wasn’t particularly excited about the humble blackberry, but I would soon return with great passion to this familiar fruit of my youth. Even in our most urban environments, the gnarled and resilient blackberry vines continue to weave themselves throughout, as if to keep reminding us where we come from.”

Peter Broderick is perhaps most well known as a live member of Efterklang, the Danish indie-rock group with whom he played from 2007-2013. In recent years he’s been kept busy working on the archives of Arthur Russell, being hired to perform audio restoration, editing and mixing for the latest posthumous release by the cult icon.

Peter has also released over twenty solo recordings in the last thirteen years, as well as composed music for film and dance, most recently the multi-award winning animated film Two Balloons. Not wanting his creativity to be reined in by any one genre, Peter has explored gospel and soul, spoken word and beat boxing, through to folk and rock and classical. He thrives on constant experimentation and collaboration with like-minded creators. Early 2020 saw him performing in the band of Tim Burgess (Charlatans), whose latest chart topping solo album features Broderick on violin.

The first vocal line on Blackberry is “You can only be as happy as the world that you live in…” — a sentiment that all of us can relate to as we struggle with climate change, with a global pandemic and resulting lockdown, with an uncertainty about the future that the modern world generates in us all. But as musicians like Peter soundtrack these turbulent times, they provide us with a lifeline, a way of looking at the world that is hopeful and full of wonder.

2020 marks a decade since The Phoenix Foundation’s “Buffalo” was born. ECHO COLLECTIVE THE SEE WITHIN Echo Collective’s debut album of original material is out on October 30. “The See Within” connects their past with the present, absorbing the experience of collaboration to feed their own inventive beauty. “We spent the last eight years creating music with amazing people, and learning so much,” says Leiter. “And when you write your own music, you can’t help but bring those people with you.”

In only a few years, Brussels-based Echo Collective have forged an enviable reputation in the post-classical world: sought out for their instrumental and arranging expertise by icons such as A Winged Victory For The Sullen and the late Jóhann Jóhannsson, or lending their interpretative intuition to genres as diverse as alt.rock, synth-pop and accomplishments as a springboard to a new, illuminating vision.

From brief, singular themes to lengthier, shifting and questing episodes, this masterclass in composition, expression and technique bridges intimacy and grandeur in line with the most rewarding of post-classical works.

“The See Within” is scored and composed for violin, viola, cello, harp and, in its first appearance on an album recording, the magnetic resonator piano (MRP). “All sounds are acoustic, and produced in real time,” explain co-founders Margaret Hermant (violin, harp) and Neil Leiter (viola). “No processing or post-production other than reverb.

The acoustic element is Echo Collective’s identity. A natural sound.”

It’s there in the name Echo Collective. “We’re a collective, with our roots in classical music and structure, but we are, in a sense, a shadow of that world, or an echo, whilst projecting a future sound,” says Leiter. That sound has already debuted with ‘Wistful Breath’ – recorded after the album – appearing on 7K!’s recent compilation String Layers. But “The See Within” is where Echo Collective’s enviable reputation will enter a new dimension: not only trusted accomplices and expert interpreters but visionary composers, looking within to project a new chapter in the ongoing development of post-classical music.

LISTEN HERE The music of Black To Comm is as powerfully intoxicating as it is subtly unnerving. The solo project of shapeshifting German producer and sound artist Marc Richter, his mastery of sonic manipulation is matched only by his astounding clarity of vision. Oocyte Oil and Stolen Androgens applies Richter’s wild imagination to an exploration of the human voice, standing as some of his most immediate and affecting music to date. Each of his phantasmagoric works is meticulously constructed from an omnivorous array of smudged samples and other sonic detritus, painstakingly collected by Richter from across the history of recorded music or his immediate environment and altered into beguiling new shapes. Sound sources seem tantalizingly familiar and yet often just out of reach, flickering at the edges of the subconscious.

Oocyte Oil & Stolen Androgens compiles new evolutions of pieces written for site-specific installations alongside original works. Taken as a suite, it offers a transfixing survey of the full sonic potential of the voice while honing in on its emotional and human qualities. Remarkably, considering their origin as art installations, the five tracks compiled on Oocyte Oil & Stolen Androgens stand as some of Richter’s most concise and immediate work. In reimagining the pieces for release, Ritcher explains that he “wanted to break away from the notion that pieces for art have to be atonal, or abstract, or difficult”. It stands as a testament to the evocative power of his work that even removed from their original context, Richter’s synaesthetic compositions alone give a vivid sense of three-dimensional space and narrative. Like psychoactive chemicals blossoming in the stomach, pieces burst and bloom from the recordings into physical space, grounded in the familiar but drifting through alternate realities and higher states of consciousness. In resampling and re-working his own material, Richter actively embraces the inherently liminal and temporal nature of music, each piece existing in a state of constant flux that shifts and bends to suit the myriad contexts in which it is experienced.

The recording of Raw and Disfigured took place largely at Sonic Youth’s studio Echo Canyon West. Amos, who plays the bulk of the instruments and sings the majority of the vocals throughout the album, is joined on a few pieces by drummer Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), as well as album and WFMU in-house engineer Ernie Indradat. The swirling atmospheres of “Lost in the Fire” and “Slow To Run” (featuring Shelley) invoke the spaced-out textures of Spacemen 3 to color Amos’ moving pop structures. “Coiste Bodhar” buttresses the album’s cinematic undercurrent across nine minutes of instrumental grandeur as affecting as the touchingly raw electric piano and voice duet of the album’s final minutes.

Subheim uses ΠΟΛΙΣ as a vehicle to depart from traditional songwriting structures, crafting each track as a piece of a larger sonic collage. These stutter-start forms reflect the four years it took for the record to take shape.

London seven-piece Maisha return with new single ‘Open The Gates’, a 16-minute epic that draws deep rhythmic and musical tangents out of a simple melody and bassline. It comes backed with a beautiful live recording of ‘Osiris’ (taken from 2018 album “There Is A Place”), where the band amp up the original’s energy even higher, the track’s lyrical refrain pushed to maximum effect. Released on Brownswood Recordings, the record is manufactured in partnership with The Vinyl Factory, who will be pressing it on 100% recycled vinyl.

The recording of ‘Osiris’ is taken from the band’s final show of 2019, in Lille, and sees bandleader Jake Long joined by the original line-up from the album sessions – Amané Suganami, Twm Dylan, Tim Doyle,Yahael Camara-Onono, Shirley Tetteh and Nubya Garcia (plus the bonus addition of regular band member Al MacSween on organ). It followed a heavy period of touring where they played sell out shows and festivals across the world. This included a series of shows with legendary saxophonist Gary Bartz, where they played a headline slot at Gilles Peterson’s debut We Out Here Festival and a show at Royal Festival Hall for the 2019 London Jazz Festival.

The band announced their arrival with 2018 debut album “There Is A Place”, praised in The Observer, The Wire, Uncut, MOJO and Clash, drawing them support from Mary Anne Hobbs and Gilles Peterson on BBC 6 Music, and live sessions on BBC Radio 3’s J to Z and for Red Bull Music.

They recorded a 2020 album “Night Dreamer” in collaboration with Gary Bartz.

These two new recordings pay tribute to the group’s evolving make-up and style. On ‘Open The Gates’, regular touring band members Binker Golding and Tamar Osborn were in the studio, bringing their unique styles to the recording. While the live version of ‘Osiris’ is a document of how the way they play the song has grown and changed as they’ve toured and switched up the line-up.

othing Sun Under the New—the title of Stephen Becker’s new EP of bedroomspun songs—expresses exactly the kind of poetic sleights-of-hand we encounter throughout this short, brilliant offering from the Brooklyn songwriter.

Becker fills this compact record with aphorisms flipped on their heads, reversals of logic and intuition, dislocations of causality and expectation. He finds a joyful sense of confusion in all the little contradictions of our daily lives: what a cold slurpee says about a hot beach, how attempting to clean our phones might actually destroy them, how our heroes might turn out to be the most disappointing people we could hope to meet, how we tidy up our garbage to be hauled off to greater mess than we can possibly imagine.

These shards of irony take on a kind of intimacy when wrapped in a blanket of synthesizers, spun around a water wheel of modulating chord changes, and shot through with pulsing drum machines and sudden bursts of noise. The music churns the songwriter’s ambivalence into revelation, his confusion into reverie, and his words into invitations—asking us to see what’s right in front of us as something strangely new.

Despite the deceptively congenial presentation, Happy is often a heavy record. After a litany of Donaldson’s past iterations (from experimental abstraction to post-punk and pop), The Reds, Pinks & Purples is Glenn D’s most personal project. Time comes in cycles sometimes what we thought we left behind suddenly catches up with us and changes the ‘Plan’. Amebix vowed never to play again after the sad ending of the band in 1987, out of steam and with little support we simply drifted apart. It wasn’t until the advent of the internet that it became apparent that we had left a wake in our passing, which had in turn passed the torch on to those who would follow. There was some satisfaction in that, and also some niggling feeling that we had never really had our ‘day in the sun’, but as I say, time comes in cycles.Stig, Roy & I all got together for the first time in 2008, I had not picked up a bass guitar for 22 years , whilst Stig had kept his hand in with his own projects , and Roy Mayorga has barely left a drum stool since his early days in Nausea, but it was the first time that we had all met , let alone played together. The brief was to try and re -visit three songs, to see what there was left of the music that had driven us so hard when we were just kids. If it didn’t work, we would all have tried anyway and had a good experience along with it. But it did work, the first track we recorded was WINTER, the first take was the one we kept, and that is ultimately the version you hear. We all stood around a bit stunned, this is easy ..lets crack into Arise!...........nailed ! As the tracks came together, we realised that a door was opening, and that we had a choice, to walk along this road again or hang up the strap for good. Personally I am glad that we walked on, 2009 was a great year , a time of celebration and re-birth, and a vindication of the body of work that we had spent ten years on, which found a home within the souls of so many good people .

Recorded at Dub Narcotic Studio in Olympia, WA and originally released in 2011 as a double LP, the corpus of songs found on AIDS Wolf’s final album were written over the course of a year as the band shifted from its more formal work to a sound focused on polyrhythm and flowing, elastic tempos. On further listens, fields of dissonant guitar and demented, lurching tempos, give way to pixelated pop forms - albeit with a detuned loner dinosaur in its spotlight.

Here, the starting point of AIDS Wolf’s compositional approach was to “learn its mistakes”, composing songs by studying improvised passages off blown out cassette tapes recorded on a trusty GE tape portable device. Aiming to dampen the repetition endemic in most music, the band added elements of chance and non-repetitive phrasing, evolving the songs organically for their final resting place. In this frame and to the very end, AIDS Wolf remained devoted to forwarding and refining their musical vision; seeking new challenges for themselves and their audience.

The results are more visceral and bizarre than could ever be imagined: Nightmarish kraut conjured by The Flying Luttenbachers’ Weasel Walter; sparse, terrifying soundscapes from Wolf Eyes’ John Olson; searing noise and auto-tune from Baltimore lab rats Nautical Almanac; manic, pounding rhythms from Jason Forrest; and alienating, reverb-drenched skree from Cleveland’s Emeralds. “Very Friendly” is a one of a kind experience that most certainly does justice to Throbbing Gristle Gristle’s bold legacy. In the late 1970’s Athens, Georgia was buzzing with a raw but sophisticated music scene. Traditional southern rock had been the Georgia musical export for years before but the turn of the decade began producing new sounds from bands like the B-52’s, REM and Alt Rock luminaires, Pylon.

Before they were a band, Pylon were art-school students at the University of Georgia: four kids invigorated by big ideas about art and creativity and society. Pylon was less a band, however, and more of an art project, which meant they had very specific goals in mind as well as an expiration date.

While their time together as a band was short lived (1979-1983), Pylon had a lasting influence on the history of rock and roll. Throughout their brief history, they were able to create influential work that would help foster the post-punk and art-rock scene of the early 80s.. Artists like R.E.M., Gang of Four, Sonic Youth, Sleater-Kinney, Interpol, Deerhunter and many more claim inspiration from the band.

In 1980 the band released its first record, Gyrate and began touring across the country in support of the release. The band would soon develop a following across the country and specifically in the bustling music scene in New York City. One of their earliest gigs was opening for the Gang of Four in the big apple. Following the critical acclaim of their debut release, Pylon went back into the studio. While in the studio they gleefully pulled their songs apart and put them back together in new shapes, revealing a band of self-proclaimed non-musicians who had transformed gradually but noticeably into real musicians. The resulting album, Chomp was barely off the press when Pylon were booked to open a run of dates for a hot new Irish band called U2 (after previously playing two arena shows with them in the month leading to the album release). Most bands would have jumped at the opportunity, but Pylon were skeptical. At a critical point in the life of Pylon, they opted to become a cult band rather than stretch their defining philosophy too far.

“We fully intended Pylon to be an almost seasonal thing that we were gonna do for a minute and then get on with our lives,” says Curtis Crowe, drummer for the band. “But it just never went away. It still doesn’t go away. There’s a new subterranean class of kids that are coming into this kind of music, and they’re just now discovering Pylon. That blows my mind. We didn’t see that coming.”

He also helped Sinatra found Reprise Records, took over Glenn Miller’s band when Glenn died in the tragic plane crash, and was a nonpareil musician to boot, as first violinist in the renowned Hollywood String Quartet. So Felix Slatkin already had quite the musical legacy when Sy Waronker hired him to become the house conductor and arranger at Liberty Records. There, Felix produced and conducted a number of hit albums, but really hit his stride with Liberty’s invention of The Premier Series, which was their answer to RCA’s Living Stereo series aimed at promoting the newfangled hi-fi stereo sound. As leader of The Fantastic Strings of Felix Slatkin, Felix and his ensemble put out an album about every three months, performing everything from Hawaiian music to Hollywood soundtracks. But the most memorable of those albums, and the one that folks have been waiting for, was the Fantastic Strings’ 1961 Christmas record, Seasons Greetings. For this record, Felix had the idea of utilizing two separate string sections, one in the right channel, and one in the left. The result was one of the most lush and sonically stunning Christmas albums of all time…but don’t take our word for it—the Vatican heartily approved of this record after being sent a copy! For this CD debut, we got a hold of the original stereo tapes for a glorious remastering by Mike Milchner at SonicVision (Note: the original album art listed track 10 as “I Heard the Christmas Bells on Christmas Day” but it’s really “O Come Little Children;” we’ve corrected the mistake on our song listing). STREET DATE: NOVEMBER 6, 2020 The Jones Girls were the premier girl group on the celebrated Philadelphia International Records label as the ‘70s turned into the ‘80s, but sisters Shirley, Brenda, and Valorie Jones were actually industry veterans, having released singles on several labels between 1970-75, which led to stints as backing vocalists for Aretha Franklin, Lou Rawls, Teddy Pendergrass, and, most famously, for Diana Ross between 1975-1978.

The group enjoyed their own smash hit when You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else (R&B #5/Pop #38, here in its rare extended mix) became their debut single for PIR in 1979. Their first album made the R&B top ten, also featuring the quiet storm classic, Who Can I Run To, (later #1 R&B for Xscape in 1995, also here in a rare extended mix) and further chart singles I’m At Your Mercy and We’re A Melody. As well as working with Gamble & Huff and others, they developed a special relationship with Dexter Wansel, who would produce many of their most celebrated recordings. A guest spot on Wansel’s own (I’ll Never Forget) My Favorite Disco gave the girls a major disco hit. The group returned in 1980 with another top ten album. Dance Turned Into A Romance returned them to the charts (#22 R&B) and the old-skool ballad I Just Love The Man followed and climbed to R&B #9. Their third album delivered another pair of hits in the form of the funky (I Found) That Man Of Mine (R&B #20) and the slinky Nights Over Egypt (R&B #23), which later became a soul/jazz anthem – also featured here in a rare remix by Mike Maurro.

In L.A, April 2018, In the midst of emerging adulthood and in the transitional period between amateur and professional musician, Ethan P. Flynn wrote and recorded what would become his debut single: “Everybody’s Dying To Meet You”. The songwriter, beatmaker and multiinstrumentalist stars in the accompanying video in which we flick back and forth through time catching snapshots of Flynn’s wild life. Beneath the more tongue-in-cheek elements of the song there lies a brutal honesty, a hopeful humor and a devastating sadness, displaying himself as an imposter going through a personality crisis. After dropping out of Guildhall aged 18, Ethan began immersing himself in the fringes of London’s music communities, collaborating with acts like Jeshi, TTY, Jockstrap, Vegyn, Slowthai, Celeste and Black County, New Road before word spread of his deep lyricism and surrealist compositions, which led him to work with FKA twigs on her most recent album Magdalene. With musical inspirations that run the gamut from Sparklehorse to Madlib, Julia Holter to Danny Brown and Tom Waits, Flynn has in turn developed a songwriting flair that is now fully revealing itself through his own work as an artist.

You’ll find all of this and more on his debut collection BSides and Rarities: Volume1. Originally available only via Bandcamp, it was released on vinyl in January 2020 by Tokyo’s renowned Big Love Records (“A genius appears!

The first hero of the 2020s!” the cult label exclaimed).

Originally released in 2005, we are excited to present an expanded edition, celebrating it’s 15th Anniversary.

This edition is limited, and available as a 2XLP or 2XCD. LP1 contains the original album, pressed on blue vinyl. LP2 is a picture disc containing demos, radio sessions and bonus tracks. The LP package also contains an “assemble your own” zoetrope. The cd replicates the LP track listing.

Langenus’s post-Monster work as a New York sound-engineer endowed him with a utilitarian knowledge of contemporary pop music. He has a toolkit and the aptitude to use it, just as Hohmann’s activist-vigilance within his family life targets those dire existential threats as they emerge in real time. Loaver is the solo project by Malmö, Sweden based Linnea Hall. The debut album ‘Fern’ is a record that sees Loaver develop her creative pop and experimenting with trip hop, singer-songwriter, dream pop, jazz and bedroom pop elements that together with Hall’s splendid vocals and personal lyrics create a hauntingly beautiful soundscape.

Following 2019 years self-titled debut EP, it’s an album that’s packed with highly unique and instantly memorable tracks, like the slow burner ‘Bloom With Me’, the shapeshifting ‘Forget All About’ and captivating ‘Apart’. ‘Fern’ comes out on black vinyl limited to 200 copies.

Besides Loaver, Linnea Hall is the singer of Swedish experimental indie rock group Kluster B. The band have put out two records since 2018 and have received praise from Line of Best Fit, BBC Radio 6, NBHAP and more, with The Revue calling them one of the most innovative bands in the world as well as opened for Frankie Cosmos, Omni and more.
