Steve Gunn’s 2009 album Boerum Palace has sold through multiple pressings and is now available in a 3rd pressing limited to 457 copies on 140 gram blue vinyl with download card.

Golden Gunn is Steve Gunn and Hiss Golden Messenger (Merge Records).

This self-titled collaborative album was originally released as a limited Record Store Day title in 2013. This 2015 re-press is limited to 660 copies pressed on 140 gram silver vinyl with download card. “‘Golden Gunn’ is ostensibly a bunch of cosmic porch jams, touching on Takoma folk, outlaw country and plenty of JJ Cale vibes. Easygoing virtuosity is a given, but the songs are pleasingly substantial” - Uncut

Boerum Palace is Steve Gunn’s second album, originally released in 2009. The album starts off with a headlong rush into the hypnotic “Mr. Franklin”. Gunn’s fluid playing style, especially as portrayed within this track, provides ample space for the development of infectious musical themes.

The track ends in a dextrous duel between Gunn’s guitar and guest Marc Orleans’ (of D. Charles Speer & the Helix, Sunburned Hand of the Man) vicious pedal steel. The album mixes Gunn’s long-form blues / raga / psych explorations alongside briefer cuts that equally display his songcraft. These tracks, such as “Variation II” and “Jadin’s Dream,” demonstrate that Gunn is equally confident with shorter or longer compositions. The tone set by these musical themes builds into the duo’s vocal delivery that delivers volumes despite being uttered in gentle tones. Blood Warrior makes music that exposes the intricacies of melancholy, unravelling its individual strands of sadness, redemption, and contemplation. The New England based duo turns heartbreak into something much more elusive and dream-like, enriching it with elements of otherworldly fantasy while retaining its raw emotional impact. Their idiosyncratic folk songs reflect this rawness, and they use guitars (at times purposefully detuned), harmonium, keyboards and sparse percussion to create music that is deceptively minimal. Letter Ghost, their second album, is an intimate and individualistic collection of personal elegies that unfolds slowly and carefully. The album unfolds like a long, sleepless night would, progressing from light into the deep darkness, finally transitioning into something new and inviting.

Blood Warrior is Greg Jamie and Joey Weiss, musicians who have been playing music together since high school, and whose musical bond was solidified in those formative years.

The songs on Letter Ghost are deceptively simple, and use meditative repetition and circular guitar lines as an anchor for its other more expansive elements. All of Jamie’s vocals on the album are first-takes, and feel at once fragile and forceful.

Weiss describes the album as being influenced by the natural environments that surrounded the various locations it was recorded, from the frozen ocean off the coast of Maine to the slowly lapping waves during a summer session on Long Island.

There is a distinctly primitive vibe that permeates the album as well, and a wide array of traditional styles, including Peruvian mountain music and Native American tribal drumming in addition to American folk music, are incorporated into these songs.

Both Jamie and Weiss have been integral parts of the New England folk underground for some time. Greg’s venue The Oak & The Ax in Biddeford, Maine was a gathering place for forward-looking musicians in the area, and also served as one of the several places where Letter Ghost was recorded.

He is also the frontman of O’Death. Joey Weiss also plays in Super Monster and Lazy River, and also served as the recording engineer for these sessions, which were done entirely on a broken 8-track machine. Blood Warrior plans to tour throughout 2015, which will be some of their first shows in some time.

Chorus!” is a study in super brisk, catchy power pop. With ten songs clocking in at 13 minutes, it's a an exercise in economy and energy: rapid fire hooks and harmony atop a mountain of fuzzy distortion. OVERVIEW The album that captured the essence of Fat Freddy’s Drop jam origins, ‘Live at Matterhorn’ is being released on heavyweight vinyl for the first time. Originally released on CD, the new limited edition 2LP 180gm vinyl features four tracks ‘Runnin’, ‘Rain’, ‘No Parking’ and ‘Bounce’ that span a total of 70 minutes with the songs taking up a side each.

The recording was made in March 2001 when Freddys was honing its sound and chops in the Wellington underground music scene. The stage was literally the back garden of Wellington’s den of inequity The Matterhorn. The audience consisted of a random collection of 30 people most of whom from memory were hospitality workers having a drink after work.

Freddys had started as a few musician mates playing along to instrumental B-side records dropped by DJ MU and by 2001 had grown to a solid six piece who liked nothing better than to jam. It’s Fulla Flash aka Warren Maxwell on saxophone, the fore runner to Chopper Reeds, and trombonist Hopepa aka Joe Lindsay is yet to join but Freddys distinctive hi-tek soul qualities shine through led by the velvet vocals of singer Joe Dukie aka Dallas Tamaira.

‘Live At Matterhorn’ went on to sell Platinum in New Zealand and while it pre-dates the bands record breaking ‘Based On A True Story’ studio album it is a touchstone for those wanting to experience Freddys early jams, the source for where Freddys story began.
