CAT#: SUS002 LP UPC: 819162016985 CD UPC: 689492158521 PACKAGING: LP (w/ DL card) + CD ARTIST: GABRIEL GARZÓN-MONTANO TITLE: BISHOUNÉ: ALMA DEL HUILA RELEASE DATE: 11/17/2014 LABEL: STYLES UPON STYLES LP SRP: $14.99 CD SRP: $9.99 ITEM: LP/CD GENRE: R&B BRIEF COPY: Sampled by Drake in "Jungle," touring with Lenny Kravitz in Europe - Gabriel Garzón-Montano has quietly made the biggest impact on R&B since its February 2014 release date. Bishouné features six songs of funk, soul and R&B recorded direct to 2" tape in strict allegiance to Prince, Sly Stone and D'Angelo. Heavy support from Gilles Peterson, Complex, and KEXP, Gabriel will run the festival circuit this summer hitting Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo. CD version includes remixes by the extended SUS family. Each pressing of the LP has sold out thus far!
CAT#: SUS004 UPC: 634457693913 PACKAGING: 1 LP ARTIST: KLOKE TITLE: SEA LEVELS RELEASE DATE: 04/21/2014 LABEL: STYLES UPON STYLES SRP: $11.99 ITEM: LP GENRE: ELECTRONIC BRIEF COPY: Following a narrative of apocalyptic tides and the oceanic sublime, Sea Levels sinks into the ambient, house, and techno realms with flashes of two-step, hip hop and dub. It's an idiosyncratic take on British electronic music aided by an arsenal of analog synthesizers, drum machines, and psychotropic effects. RIYL Boards of Canada, Drexciya, Aphex Twin. Awarded a 4 / 5 on Resident Advisor.
CAT#: SUS006 UPC: 711574779314 PACKAGING: 1 LP w/ DL ARTIST: GUT NOSE TITLE: FILTHY CITY RELEASE DATE: 09/09/2014 LABEL: STYLES UPON STYLES SRP: $14.99 ITEM: LP GENRE: TECHNO BRIEF COPY: Debut album from NYC producer Gut Nose featuring two mixes pressed to wax. The A side is an all-instrumental beat tape (think Cannibal Ox / El-P) and the B side a blistering tour de force through Gut's take on house / techno. "...the more time you spend with Gut Nose’s Filthy City the more you feel seedy, degraded and in need of a long shower. It’s by no means a perfect album, but Filthy City is a confident debut that utilises an approach which really leaves its mark." - Juno Plus

UK based, Oscar unexpectedly whipped the blogs into a frenzy in April 2013 with his self-released, Never Told You. Pitchfork bestowed Best New Music, The Guardian tagged him as a Band Of The Day and the NME took note - all whilst he was still in college. Upon graduating, Oscar followed up by releasing his 146b EP abroad, which continued to garner praise on both sides of the pond with raves from Stereogum, Impose and extensive play from BBC 6 Music for multiple tracks. Beautiful Words is the first long player released by Oscar in America and features the hotly tipped track, Daffodil Days. The aforementioned track premiered via The Fader in January and was quickly covered via 40+ blogs including Stereogum, NME, Fake DIY, Drowned In Sound and The Line of Best Fit. The cinematic Daffodil Days video was premiered via Noisey in March to much acclaim. The Beautiful Words EP will be serviced to radio at street date and is benefitting from a long lead press campaign via Press Here. A US promo tour in June will be followed by touring the States this fall, to quote The DaDaDa, “be prepared”. “…not every bedroom auteur possesses Scheller’s rich, expressive baritone…unabashedly personal pop” - Pitchfork “…he sounds like some unwieldy combination of Damon Albarn, Stephen Merritt, Calvin Johnson, and Jens Lekman. It seems Oscar has a taste for the old Parklife.” -Stereogum “ …Daffodil Days one of the first best songs that 2015 has graced us with. It’s the way a good pop tune should be, capturing your attention right away and never letting go. It’s been on repeat ever since it’s been released. -We All Want Someone ”… has a whiff of Blur about it, something about the swoon-ease of his tones, although Oscar’s baritone is rich like a really decent coq au vin.” -Noisey “…bedroom artist poised to become a superstar…be prepared” -The DaDaDa

This bass heavy and potent collection features the key Peruvian producers and DJs that have helped build Lima’s reputation as ‘jewel in the crown’ of South America’s rave & party scenes. Tropical bass artists like Dengue Dengue Dengue, DJ Chakruna, Animal Chuki and Deltatron have long been guided by the roots of chicha and Peruvian cumbia. This sees them reshape and digitally render the original sounds fashioning new cuts inspired by dubstep, techno, trap, grime, house and electronica all aimed squarely at the dancefloor. Detroit has techno, Chicago has house, and Peru’s DJs and producers consider Lima as the home of Tropical Bass. A global and amorphous style of music that has producers, DJs and flagbearers from various corners of the world from South Africa and Angola’s Kudoro scenes to the Baile Funk parties of Brazil, international DJs like Diplo, Switch and labels like Mad Decent have long been absorbing and redefining the sound. Electronic music made in Peru is often influenced by the national music style ‘Cumbia’, a slow and syncopated style of music full of complex rhythms. Lima is the central meeting point for all of Peru’s Andean, African and European cultures and this is reflected by the varied music blaring out from speakers around the city. With an admirable respect for labels like Infopesa, the most influential label in ‘60s & ‘70s Peru for chicha and Peruvian Cumbia, the artists of today bring traditional and once popular sounds bang up to date, creating a new history influenced by urban Lima. Peru Boom is the third compilation released on Tiger’s Milk (in conjunction with Strut). Following hot on the heels of the 1960’s jazz and ‘70s funk of Peru Bravo and Peru Maravilloso, this marks a new departure for the label, bringing things bang up to date with the latest electronic sounds. Martin Morales, co-founder of Tiger’s Milk Records first took inspiration for the project at a life changing rave in Lima 3 years ago thrown by Dengue Dengue Dengue. The album cover is a commissioned work by top Peruvian artist Ruta Mare. The design combines ‘80s electronica with bold colours relative to the tropical bass scene and will look even better on physical CD and LPs

ZAC NELSON New Once June 30, 2015 Zac Nelson blurs the borders of pop nostalgia and experimentalism with unabashed glee throughout the brief and wondrous sound of New Once, his brand new album and first for Brooklyn’s Styles Upon Styles. New Once flits from four top harmonies and campfire jams to psychotropic passages of blistered ambiance from one rapid minute to the next. The music mirrors the musings of a dosed poet or a Hunter S.Thompson novella, dipping from the exuberance of “Some Are This” to the melancholic duet “Her Daddy Broke” and groove thesis “ExStream-Esque” with brushstrokes unfettered yet focused. Mixed by Rusty Santos (Animal Collective, The Present), New Once is a freak matrimony of chaos and beauty fit for journeys under the sun.

Citizenn Human Interface SALES TEXT Citzenn imparts his eagerly anticipated debut album, ‘Human Interface’, on Crosstown Rebels on 15th June; manifested through technology and exploring it’s relationship with human condition. Awarded the title of DJ Mag’s ‘Breakthrough DJ’ in 2013, Citizenn has won favour across multiple disciplines for his retro-futurist style. A film director in a former life, his affinity with working with technology led him to this first album, inspired by the direction it was taking humanity. The title track cracks the album into a dystopian tone reminiscent of artists such as Burial, Floating Points and Flying Lotus. Tracks like ‘Infatuation’, ‘Control’ and ‘Gone’ welcome in warmth with R&B-tinted smooth vocals, layered over textured beats that sit safe with artists such as Scuba and James Blake. As the record progresses, Citizenn’s recognisable sci-fi house synths, garage vibes and techno elements effortlessly combine in engaging classic beats surfacing in first single, ‘Tied’, and tracks including ‘Lacefront’ and ‘Shutters’ take a bow to the ground-breaking sounds of the late eighties and early nineties. This is an impeccable debut album that is strong contender for one of the best electronic albums of the year. 15. INFORMATION:
“Footwork”—the very word indicates a movement of the feet that is “work” (as in an effort to achieve). Its joyous social party nature sits within a lineage of African American history that includes the infamous Soul Train dance tunnel and Hip Hop dance circles. However, as Footwork continues to become more popular, we should not forget that at its essence it is a highly evolved battle form. This is the central theme one feels listening to the stunning “Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints,” the second album from RP Boo, the man credited with inventing the Footwork genre with a 1997 track “Baby Come On” (recently re-released on the Planet Mu EP “Classics Vol. 1”).

RP Boo is to Footwork what Juan Atkins is to Techno – a source point for a busting out of innovative ideas and new directions. When asked about his role as progenitor of the genre he humbly notes, “It has taken me a while to adjust to. I actually had to think about how it could have come to be by listening to other producers and DJs that were around as it was forming. All of them said, at different times, hey RP you know you created a mean following of people that are inspired by the way you make tracks and get the dancers into a whole new battle stage with energy. It helps me see that I represent a breathing source of sounds.” Dancing is central to RP Boo. If you’ve been lucky enough to catch one of his DJ sets, such as his groundbreaking 2013 European debut at Unsound Festival in Krakow, you’ll have seen him come out from behind the decks and start dancing in and with the crowd, spreading Footwork both sonically and as an evolving set of movements. People who meet RP Boo may note a stark contrast between the intense battle aesthetics of “Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints” and the joyousness of RP Boo as an individual. He says, “I know how to speak battle from being in the circles. Footworkers need fuel and they often say, only you can get us to battle like that. Once outside the turntables, I use the same energy to speak with people. It’s a job and I am strong on giving encouragement to others, I want to uplift people. I have to try and walk that life for as long as I am alive.” Sonically, RP Boo is a modern-day Zatoichi samurai, cutting his samples in unorthodox ways. His sound remains unique. “Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints” contains both tracks made after his acclaimed 2013 debut album “Legacy” (“An album of scorching, scene-defining hits” SPIN) and older tracks. Highlights include “Banging On King Dr.” which sees him cutting up street numbers; the monolithic noir feeling of “Sleepy”; the subtle funk of “Your Choice” which may in some way be inspired by his Dad’s role as bass player for Prince; “Lets Dance Again” whose delicate soulful sound echoes deep streams of Chicago dance music history; the dramatic string-infused “Daddy's Home” and the celebration of achieving dreams that is the closer “B'Ware.” “Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints” is the sound of an innovator reconfirming his place as leader with one of the most essential Footwork albums to date.

About
Anthonie Tonnon first came to attention in his home country with the band Tono and the Finance Company. The band released two EPs and the full-length Up Here For Dancing. With dry wit and observational lyrics that recalled The Smiths and Pulp, Tonnon sang of urban life in New Zealand’s cities. Anti-gentrification anthem “Marion Bates Realty” caught the attention of Beirut, who invited the band on their 2012 New Zealand tour. In 2013, Anthonie Tonnon began touring under his own name, influenced by stage techniques from the comedy and theatre worlds as much as formative influences like Jonathan Richman and Jens Lekman. An increasing focus on sonics in subsequent tours saw Tonnon develop a rich, retro futuristic sound influenced by David Bowie’s Berlin period, Kraftwerk, and Lou Reed’s early solo career. Anthonie Tonnon’s narrative lyrics and arresting live show have seen him perform recently with Okkervil River in New Zealand, and in the US with the likes of Sean Nelson, Shenandoah Davis and Nicolas Krgovich. He has performed on influential American website Daytrotter, and has placed an album in the CMJ Top 200 Charts as well as the Top 20 NZ Albums Chart. He was recently named in Billboard’s “list of New Zealand acts you need to know about.”

The Legends It’s Love LP on 12” Vinyl, June 30
Stockholm cult heroes The Legends continue their accidental career with It’s Love , their first album in six years. It’s love details a recent chapter in the life of frontman Johan Angergård that saw him wrestle with loss and identity. Turning 40 brought with it unexpected emotional distance from things that once mattered very much. Suddenly, his role as Labrador Records label boss was no longer important to him, nor was his relationship with someone whom he shared a large chunk of his life. These swirling emotions conspired to spur an abrupt creative streak, producing It’s Love in a span of four months. As expected, the material is heartbreaking and selfaware, reflecting the arduous inner workings of Johan’s journey – but it’s also buoyant and lush, expressing the resilient human spirit. It’s Love sees release on June 30 through The Legends new label home, Cascine.

OVERVIEW: Hot Creations deliver their first artist album of the year with the Parisien luminary Popof's , 'Love Somebody'. Jamie Jones & Lee Foss' Hot Creations imprint has successfully straddled the gap between territory between underground house & techno and more crossover vocal led disco-infused dance music since it was launched in 2010. They have taken artists such as Patrick Topping, Richy Ahmed, Miguel Campbell, Annabel Englund and their own Hot Natured brand, who played live at Coachella this year, on a unique journey into the spotlight. Only the fourth artist album to be released on the label, Alexandre Paounov AKA Popof's longplayer elevates the chic beats and smooth rolling melodies of house music to new heights, opening the world to fresh palatable tastes through tracks such as 'Your Eyes' and 'Lidl Girl'. Maintaining a grasp on the dancefloor, tracks like 'Pack n Rollin' and 'Going Back' strike back to Popof's roots as a former member of the free-party underground collective ‘Heretik System’ in Paris. While ‘Words Gone’ has already found great favour through remix treatment from Luciano, Marc Houle and Jamie Jones and the second single ‘Going Back’ features remixes from Eats Everything, Lee Foss, Oxia & Miss Kittin and Luca Donzelli & Mar T.
“I’ve been composing club-oriented dancefloor music since the beginning, and this album project allowed me to create tracks with a calmer side to them.’ explains Popof, ‘I teamed up with a singer, Arno Joey, who does the vocals on most of the tracks and Miss Kittin is also featured on ‘Always On My Mind’, a very sunny, warm song. Moreover, there are two other tracks that I’ve worked on with French artist Animal & Me - ‘Going Back’ and ‘Always On My Mind’ - who, in my opinion, is a newcomer to follow attentively.” Sublimely captivating and with the right balance of emotion, 'Love Somebody' is a statement of intention for an artist with a heavy artillery of experience, ready to fire in new directions. A perfect combination of hooky house rhythms, understated techno production and evocative vocal melodies that you'll hear everywhere this summer. o+ Voted Best Newcomer artist at the Ibiza DJ Awards in 2009, Popof has since gained notoriety for his work with Cocoon, and remixing the likes of Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers, and Moby. o+o Appointed the official mentor of the Paris Techno Parade 2013's fifteen year anniversary, a great honour he shared in front of 300.000 participants. One of the most downloaded artists in techno music, Popof is regarded as a versatile solo artist whose adventures have gained him access to various genres of music. 'Slow Wave' is the beautiful, widescreen cinematic pop record by England's unsung heroes, the cosmic lo-fi quartet It Hugs Back. Led by the intricate songwriting and guitar of Matthew Simms (also guitarist in Wire since 2010), steering clear of standard structures and tunings, working with Jack Theedom (keyboards & vocals), Paul Michael (bass) and Will Blackaby (drums), together they have created their own dream world of sound that is both new and wonderful. Matthew and Jack then slowly built up multiple, interweaving layers of 12 string guitar, mellotron strings & analogue synthesisers and developed intricate mass vocal harmonies before sending the whole lot through their vast collection of old tape delays and phasers - set to slow! 1.
