Kowloon Records is the brainchild of producer and multiinstrumentalist Leonardo Salvaro, who started the new boutique record company to release his own music and that of progressive, like-minded artists. Named after the most densely populated neighbourhood on the planet, Hong Kong’s Kowloon, the label shares that aesthetic and aspiration to be a melting pot of creatives fuelled by the power of art.

release Aucan, via English born neo-classical singer songwriter Tom Adams, to the labels imminent first American signings, on a more urban tip. The staff of the label now numbers 6 and includes decades of quality indie label, agency, management & promo experience from quarters so varied as Warp, GSL, Terrorbird to name a few. Kowloon has now also opened a publishing company too, partnering with long respected English firm Manners McDade.

Musically the roster promises to be varied and powerful, from the Italian electronic in Salvaro’s Florestano & 2nd

Tom Adams Voyages by Starlight EP KWLONVEP003 // KWLOND003 // KWLONW003

We are eagerly looking forward to 2016 with a proud new addition to Kowloon Records‘ family, the mesmerizing Berlin-based (via Cambridge) songwriter/composer Tom Adams. In awe over his striking live performances, Adams’ immersive minimalism and spellbinding falsetto conveys so much emotion with just a few elements. In 2014 he composed and produced the soundtrack for the Universal Pictures feature film “The Knife That Killed Me” and was celebrated for his remixes of Max Richter’s “Berlin by Overnight“, which was released by Deutsche Grammophon. Masterfully balancing tactile acoustic and electronic instruments, Adams’ music is expansive as it is elegantly particular – evoking cinematic odes to nature’s majesty and the contrasting depths of the human condition. Exciting news about Tom Adams‘ debut full-length in 2016 coming soon, stay tuned!

Aucan Stelle Fisse KWLOND002 // KWLONCD002 // KWLONLP002

Founded on the concept of permanent crisis and continual refinement, Italian trio Aucan seams together hypnotic live rhythms and moody electronics using a precise, minimalist post-rock approach. Much evolved from their origins as a math-rock outfit, Aucan’s gear and synth collection expanded over the years informs the band’s current incarnation which is most notorious for their striking 100% hardware live shows. While Aucan experiments with new forms admiring an array of soundsystem music/club genres, the band’s creative approach remains the same as day-one: to make their music as direct and honest as they could, setting rules on gear having to be played live and imposing limits on the number of tracks and overdubs to maintain the original, raw live constructs. With over 300 live shows under their belt, Aucan has shared the stage with Matmos, Fuck Buttons, Chemical Brothers, and Placebo, and along the way has made quick fans of fellow artists collaborating with the likes of Shigeto, Otto Von Schirach, Scorn, Zu, and Dalek. Declaring themselves as more of multi-disciplinary collective than just a band, Aucan formed on their kinship sharing similar ideas on music, art, and contemporary philosophy. Just like a singular aesthetic presents itself in their music, the band is focused on making the same compelling impression in their visual work (live A/V and artwork) and lyrical content.

florestano Noh KWLOND001 // KWLONCD001 // KWLONLP001

Exploring off-kilter electronic rhythms and disorienting sonics, florestano carves out unique, constantly shifting soundworlds on his debut album ‘Noh‘. Emphasizing an organic foundation for his ornate compositions, many of the songs on ‘Noh‘ began on his old black piano and drums before weaving in the synthesized sounds of hardware and software. He strategically sculpts and re-arranges the building blocks to create something aesthetically alien – while retaining a core human element that seeps through each phrase. Masterfully using tension as an instrument, there’s a stark, cinematic quality running through florestano‘s ‘Noh‘ that gives equal. The Italian producer florestano (aka Leonardo Salvaro) is intent on pushing new ideas into minimalist frameworks with drum patterns tangling and untangling within the intricate arrangements. The resulting songs exude an uncanny directness and sense of urgency, despite all it’s heady complexities on the surface. Never fully placing itself into any genre, Salvaro’s sound sculptures flirt with highly-swung techno sensibilities, the dissonance and sound design of experimental/glitch, and the exciting unpredictability of avant-jazz. Not all of ‘Noh‘ originates from such deliberate means. Some moments came about by happy accident, such as “7 of Diamonds” which was born out of the sound of pushing excess sugar to bottom of his teacup, inspired by what he was hearing – Salvaro experimented with different grains and liquids until he found the perfect sample of crushing cooking salt in a glass of water and recorded that as the base for the song. It’s this kind of playfulness that helps makes ‘Noh‘ such an addictive, distinct listen as one of this year’s most daring debuts. nods to instrumentation both natural and synthesized. www.kowloon-records.com

TONY JOE WHITE RAIN CROW

WORLDWIDE RELEASE DATE: MAY 27, 2016 “With a deep, come-hither voice” (Mother Jones) and an “ability to turn that throbbing, thumping uh-uhh hazy guitar beat” (PopMatters), the “King of Swamp Rock” Tony Joe White will release his 19th studio album, Rain Crow, May 27 on Yep Roc Records. Recorded at his own studio and produced by his son, Jody White, Rain Crow summons recollections of long ago, when animals foretold the weather, tongue-talking worshippers proved their faith by handling snakes and a “bad wind” could drive a man to edge of insanity. The nine-song set features new compositions White wrote over the past three years, including co-writes with his wife, Leann, and Billy Bob Thornton on “The Middle of Nowhere.” Known for popularizing swamp music, he wrote gems like “Polk Salad Annie” and “Rainy Night in Georgia,” and has had his songs performed by Elvis, Ray Charles, and Tina Turner.

“His swamp rock sound is a mix of Delta blues, Cajun, country and, of course, rock ‘n’ roll.” – NPR WEEKEND EDITION “…White remains an unsung hero of American music, a fairly well-kept secret…” – THE BLUEGRASS SITUATION

HIGHLIGHTS • 19th studio album - follow up to the critically acclaimed Hoodoo • In 2014, White was profiled in the Nashville episode of HBO’s Sonic Highways and performed “Polk Salad Annie” with the Foo Fighters on The Late Show with David Letterman to promote the show • First single “Hoochie Woman” premiered by Rolling Stone Country • Double LP - includes download code

Hailing from Chelmsford Essex in the UK, Gold Panda’s journey from his meteoric rise on his first album to now is entirely circular. In the six years since the release of his genre-defining debut album Lucky Shiner, the electronic artist most comfortable with the moniker Derwin Panda spent the subsequent years splitting the majority of his time between London, Berlin and countless excursions to Japan. As he created his new, third album Good Luck And Do Your Best he ultimately found himself back where he began, in the East of England. Whereas his second album Half Of Where You Live was occasionally taut, perhaps harder and more piecing, the 11 songs that comprise Good Luck And Do Your Best have a distinctly warmer palate, one that echoes Lucky Shiner a little more. Now with a clearer range of sounds, Panda has found a more cohesive vision, one where “the tracks aren’t popping out against each other. It’s a complete record.” Singles & Video: 1. LIVE: 6/1/16- New York, NY @ Bowery Ballroom 6/2/16 – Los Angeles, CA @ Echoplex Headline tour US: Aug Sept 2017 QUOTES:

“Even as the track quickens, slathering on heaps of rich sounds, it remains peaceful and meandering. It ends like the content sigh that one breathes after a long, fulfilling day.” - Pitchfork “It’s an entrancing cut that would be equally suitable for a rainy February day as it would be for a sweltering summer night.” - Entertainment Weekly

THE WAILERS The Wailing Wailers

The Wailing Wailers burst onto the Jamaican music scene at the height of the ska era in 1964, recording nearly one hundred songs for producer Coxson Dodd’s ground-breaking Studio One imprint. They covered American pop and R&B hits and wrote heartbreakingly beautiful ballads and irresistible dance scorchers that sound as fresh today as they did 60 years ago. This never before reissue of their legendary first album, features three immortals who went on to stupendously successful solo careers. Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Neville Livingston are joined by Junior Braithwaite, Vision Walker, Beverly Kelso, and Rita Marley in an unforgettable collection of Coxson’s finest productions.

HIGHLIGHTS • First reissue using the original 1965 Jamaican masters, tracklisting, and cover art • Features three reggae immortals: Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Neville Livingston • Contains hit track “Rude Boy” which established The Wailers as the leaders of the new reggae movement • LP features unique Obi Strip with historical information to maintain integrity of original cover art • The first in a series of reissues from renowned reggae label Studio One

Summer Cannibals initially cut their teeth on the Portland, Oregon circuit, sharing the stage and receiving encouragement from peers such as The Thermals. Along the way, they released a pair of fantastic full-lengths on their own New Moss Records label, including 2015’s Show Us Your Mind —recorded by legendary NW engineer Larry Crane and was recently named one of the best of 2015 by Sound Opinions co-host Jim DeRogatis. The band has since spent an unhealthy amount of time on the road, earning accolades and adding plenty of fresh converts to their highlycharged, no frills attack. It seems only logical that when the band decided to sign to a label, they chose a label like Kill Rock Stars, which has a long history of putting out fearless, female-led bands like Bikini Kill and SleaterKinney. “Summer Cannibals take us back to our roots,” says KRS President Portia Sabin. “Jessica is a great songwriter and the band is super exciting live, it’s a perfect fit.” The new album Full Of It is the band’s defining statement to date. Recorded at the amazing analog recording studio The Dock with producer Chris Woodhouse (Thee Oh Sees, Wild Flag), the LP is one of those massive leaps forward that every band hopes to achieve at least once in their career. Aided by a new powerhouse rhythm section of drummer Devon Shirley and bassist Jenny Logan, the 11 songs spark with that perfect mix of snotty attitude, unbounded energy, and window rattling volume. •

Performing at Sasquatch, Project Pabst, touring with The Thermals in Spring and headlining US tour in June.

Label: Impossible Objects of Desire File Under : Indie/Elctronica Export: No Export

Brighton-based Fujiya & Miyagi have now been making expansive, experimental and multifaceted electronic-driven music for over fifteen years. As an outfit they have been as successful in their investigations into bleep as they have elongated Krautrock wig outs, and creating breathy electro pop as fiercely as they do post-punkindebted scratchy dance. EP1 feels like an amalgamation of all of these factors, condensed succinctly into four tracks, the first of three planned EPs which will accumulate in a new album in early 2017.

TRACKLISTING 1. Serotonin rushes 2. To the last beat of my heart 3. Freudian slips 4. Magnesium flares

DaM-FunK DJ-KICKS A lot of folks feel like they know DaM-FunK; he is laid-back, affable and personable but to truly get the guy, I mean really understand him, is to know a deep love of music like no other. A more suitable reflection of this is his contribution to the beloved DJ-Kicks series. A snapshot into the mind of the pioneer of Modern-Funk music…get to know the man behind the shades. At a satisfying 19 songs, Dam lets grooves breath, this is a mix to happily get lost within. It's a document in vibe. Unexpected contemporary joints from low-key producers like Henning and L33 mingle with lost gems from unlikely places. 80's Fusion-Jazz guitarist Tony Palkovic on "True To Yourself" follow the the airy-burn of new-age ensemble Gaussian Curve's "Broken CD TRACKLISTING 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11

Clouds" or the super rare bliss-Funk of "Theme From Beach Boy" from 1982. Dam's excellent collaboration with Nite Jewel, as 'Nite-Funk' on "Can U Read Me?" is pure bliss and such a fantastic collaboration you'd be yearning for more., reminding listens that one of Dam's biggest assists is his duality from master DJ to trend-setting producer. And we get this heavy on Dam's DJ-Kicks exclusive "Believer". Sheets of synth lines fall all around a locking drum program that starts off innocently enough but ends you in a half-hypnotic state. An extensive instrumental composition that on it's own could only be classified as signature Modern-Funk. There may be a lot of folks dabbling but there really is only one Damon.

SWEET TIMES AFRO-FUNK, HIGHLIFE & JUJU FROM 1970S LAGOS “A landmark collection that remains a compelling journey into a time and place: Nigeria in the 1970s, when American soul and funk (along with AngloAmerican blues-rock and psychedelia) infected the roots of traditional and popular West African musical styles like highlife, juju, fuji, and apala.” Dusted magazine Strut announce a brand new repress of the third instalment in the pioneering ‘Nigeria 70’ compilation series, compiled by series curator Duncan Brooker. Excavating another choice batch of rare grooves from Nigeria’s label archives, the new edition places the spotlight on some of the deeper fusions happening across the country during the 1970s as traditional guitar highlife blended with jazz and funk, hypnotic juju grooves became more progressive and young Nigerian bands came through with their own heavy West African take on U.S. soul, funk, disco and rock. As within much of the ‘Nigeria 70’ album series, all of the featured selections are previously unissued outside of Nigeria. Tracks range from the dynamite big band workout of Alex Ringo’s Moneyman & The Super 5 International to the Congolese guitar-drenched ‘Henrietta’ by the late Ali Chukwumah, former member of Stephen Osita Osadebe’s Sound Makers. Darker psych grooves from Don Isaac Ezekiel sit alongside a languorous highlife jam by the legendary Victor Olaiya and juju legend Ebenezer Obey cooks up a lilting, deeply beautiful mid-tempo groove from 1970 in a musical plea for peace. ‘Nigeria 70: Sweet Times’ is another essential celebration of the glut of incredible music that surfaced in post-independence Nigeria. This is the third edition in the acclaimed ‘Nigeria 70’ series. The first volume, released in 2001, was the first compilation of its kind to explore in depth the myriad of funk and soul fusions emerging from Nigeria during the 1970s. Strut followed this with a second edition, ‘Nigeria 70: Lagos Jump’, in 2008. ‘Nigeria 70” Sweet Times’ is compiled by Duncan Brooker and features extensive sleeve notes by writer and broadcaster Max Reinhardt.

KEY POINTS: - Limited new re-press of classic highlife, juju and afrobeat collection, 500 copies only - Definitive format: 2LP set including CD version as bonus - one of the most influential of all recent African music series which helped spawn a new market for African rare grooves - album fully remastered for this reissue

JIGMASTAS / RESURGENCE About Following closely behind last year's expanded reissue of 2000's 'Grassroots', the New York duo of DJ Spinna & Kryminul present 'Resurgence', a long awaited album of previously unreleased material. Comprising tracks created between 2003 and the present day, 'Resurgence' represents the duo's musical growth during a period where most of us assumed the Jigmastas project was on hold. From start to finish, 'Resurgence' is brimming over with soul thanks to Spinna's distinctively languid boom-bap productions. Rapper Kryminul is on fine form with his clever and witty brand of storytelling, which still stays close to the streets whilst keeping the subject matter varied and eclectic. Storming guest appearances come from Shabaam Saadique and Old World Disorder (Skam, Shadowman Boogie), both familiar names to Jigmastas fans. With the announcement of another brand new album 'Stellar' coming later in 2016, 'Resurgence' is a perfect opportunity to bring yourself up to speed with Jigmastas, just as they prepare to reclaim their rightful place at hip hop's top table.

Key Selling Points • BBE is proud to present unreleased material by the Jigmastas

About Starting life as a small New York event aimed at raising awareness for Fela Kuti's musical message, Rich Medina's Jump N Funk party has now been rocking dancefloors across the globe for over 15 years. Honouring Fela's contribution to music as well as his political and cultural legacy, Medina has made his events a platform to celebrate Afro-Life across the Black Diaspora. With guests such as Wunmi, the cast of Fela! On Broadway, Asiko and Antibalas providing captivating live performances, Jump N Funk is so much more than a club night. In creating this compilation to represent the spirit of his events, Rich Medina has chosen an eclectic selection of undeniably afro-tinged, unashamedly life-affirming music. With most tracks either referencing, sampling or inspired by the great man, the record also includes material by Fela himself, as well as son Seun Kuti and long-time band member Tony Allen the inventor of the afrobeat set drum syncopation that is equally as notorious as Fela and his message... The album's artwork has been lovingly created by Lemi Ghariokwu, the fabled Nigerian artist who designed some of Fela's most iconic covers. From the record's sleeve to the music contained within, Jump N Funk is a cultural artefact with one foot in the past, the other in the future. An echo of Fela's message: a reminder to celebrate, to empower, to progress. Key Selling Points: • Cover art by Fela Kuti's illustrator Lemi Ghariokwu • Full press & radio campaign in key territories • Rich Medina's Jump n Funk movement is responsible for the renewed interest stateside in Fela's legacy • Music included within from Fela himself, his son Seun & drummer Tony Allen • Gatefold 2LP, extra heavy 180g vinyl, incl. bonus 7” single

SULFUR CITY

Fronted by singer/electric washboard player Lori Paradis, Canadian band SuLFur City comes roaring out of your speakers with echoes of Grace Slick, Patti Smith and Janis Joplin. this is no wimpy chick rock! Sulfur City is the first female-fronted band on ALiVE, and their balls-to-thewall, high-energy gritty blues style fits right in with label mates like the Black Keys and Left Lane Cruiser. Born in a small mining town in North-eastern Ontario, Lori’s lyrics reflect her life experience (she has been a truck driver on a construction crew, a bartender and a house painter among other odd jobs). “talking Loud” was recorded at the infamous Gas Station recording studio by Dale Morningstar (Cowboy Junkies, Neko Case), and features Jesse Lagace (guitar), Steve Smith (bass), Sam King (drums), and Keith Breit (keys).

Maria Usbeck Amparo LP on 12” Vinyl // May 27, 2016

Maria Usbeck's solo debut, Amparo, is a collection of songs written and recorded across the span of three years in Ecuador, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Barcelona, Lisbon, Easter Island, Costa Rica, Florida, L.A. and her home in Brooklyn. Though the songs were composed electronically, Amparo called for an acoustic treatment, so Usbeck (former frontwoman of new wave act Selebrities) spent a winter in the studio recording the arrangements live with producer Caroline Polachek (Chairlift) and engineer Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson. Fleshed out in full sonic color on the marimba, xylophone, quena flute, piano, and harp, the album stretched out into something hifi and expressive, meditative but not meandering. ____________________________ Tracks: 1) Isla Magica 2) Moai Y Yo 3) Llamame 4) Camino Desolado 5) Uno De Tus Ojos 6) Ciudad Desnuda 7) Playa Escondida 8) Lapislazul 9) Jungla Inquieta 10) Tarantula Genre: World / Alternative | Catalog: CSN075 | UPC: 639667199088 | List Price: $12 Box Lot: 100 Export: Worldwide, minus Europe | Packaging: 12”, SIngle Sleeve

Soul Jazz Records Presents

BOOMBOX Early Independent Hip Hop, Electro and Disco Rap 1979-‐82 Street Date: 27th May 2016

No shipments outside of North America

Soul Jazz Records’ new ‘Boombox’ features some of the many innovative underground first-‐wave of rap records made in New York in the period 1979-‐82, all released on small, independent, often family-‐concern record companies, at a time when hip-‐hop music still remained under the radar. This first exuberant wave of innocent, upbeat, ‘party on the block’ rap records were the first to try and create the sounds heard in community centres, block parties and street jams that initially took place in the Bronx in the mid-‐1970s. But where Flash, Kool Herc and Bambaataa were back-‐spinning, mixing and scratching together now classic breakbeat records like The Incredible Bongo Band’s ‘Apache’ or Babe Ruth’s ‘The Mexican’, these first rap records were all made using live bands, often replaying then current disco tunes, whilst MCs rapped over the top, creating a unique sound that later became known derisively as ‘old school’. And while hip-‐hop started in the Bronx, rap on vinyl began in Harlem where long-‐ time established rhythm and blues producer-‐owned record companies such as Joe Robinson’s Enjoy Records, Paul Winley’s Winley Records, Delmar Donnel’s Delmar International and Jack ‘Fatman’ Taylor’s Rojac and Tayster were the first off the mark to realise the commercial potential of rap music -‐ releasing early ground-‐breaking records that all quickly followed in the wake of the first rap record, The Sugarhill Gang’s ‘Rappers Delight’, a million-‐selling worldwide hit. This collection celebrates these first old-‐school rap records, bringing together rare, classic and obscure tracks released in the early days of rap. Deluxe double CD-‐pack comes with slipcase, 40-‐page outsize perfect-‐bound booklet, extensive notes, exclusive photography and original label artwork. Triple heavyweight vinyl includes full artwork, text and notes as well as free download code.

Tour dates 4/16–7/28 Brooklyn, Boston, Philadelphia. Raleigh, Charleston, Atlanta, Asheville, VA Beach, DC, Baltimore, W. Mass, Montreal, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Madison, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh...with PC Worship, Horse Lords, Sunwatchers, etc. “Like punk rock coming out of a music box,” Stereogum described one performance. “A joyful journey through a strange land,” said the New Yorker. Rocks or Cakes, the band’s 2014 Northern Spy debut “thrills, buzzes, dives, [and] surprises,” wrote Relix.

Like visions from a 3D comic book, color fantasies explode in vivid new sound-tones on Cloud Becomes Your Hand’s Rest in Fleas. The band’s second album for Northern Spy establishes the Brooklyn sextet as purveyors of googley-eyed psych-pop of the highest order, delivered in a kinetically singular dialect of the musical language of fun. Over eight tracks, Cloud Becomes Your Hand affirm their position in the secret lineage that links the pingings of the BBC Radiophonics Workshop to the happy goofing of Syd-era Pink Floyd (like if the busted gearwork at the end of “Bike” started its own band?), a line that connects the energy dome power of Devo to the collage-happy Frosted Ambassador wing of the Elephant 6 Recording Company. Feed your head, right? But while the collective destination might be the sweet innocence of marmalade skies, the Cloud irregulars are hardly musical naifs, executing dazzling conceptual and compositional turns that puts them just as much in the family of New York’s uncompromising experimental music scene. Just at home at hanging out at Brooklyn avant-garde institutions like Roulette as on homemade stages in over-enthusiastic loft installations, Cloud Becomes Your Hand are ready to find the doorway to elsewhere in any environment. Rest in Fleas functions much the same, using sleight of hand and pure charm to lash open a portal to the giddy surreal by any means necessary, from learned technique to spontaneous creation. Along with fellow travelers on the kosmik-noisenik highway like aggro-eclectic Guerilla Toss and Horse Lords, Cloud Becomes Your Hand continue to fight the good fight by not fighting at all, just emitting only the most colorful of vibrations and letting the air and all available ears do the rest.

anticon. 453 s spring st. suite 923, los angeles, ca 90013 www.anticon.com, shaun@anticon.com Over the course of the past decade, ANTWON has made a name for himself with rowdy live shows and making music that’s sometimes brooding, often hilarious, and always rooted in human relationships. His latest effort, the DOUBLE ECSTASY EP (due out April 1, 2016 on Anticon), touches on all of the San Jose native's favorite topics: sex, successfully navigating clubs, the dri-fit shirt you can’t quite fit into, and more sex. But just when you think you’ve stood in line outside this venue before, he turns on a dime—these aren't the same characters you’ve seen before. "I feel like this record is a rebirth,” ANTWON says. Where he’s spent the last five years writing and recording in isolation, DOUBLE ECSTASY finds him fully collaborative with producer Lars Stalfors. “This record was definitely the most fun to make,” he adds, “it showed me why I started playing in bands and collaborating with other people.” The results are superb. He oscillates between “Luv”’s strip club hugs and “100K”’s nightmare-induced oral sex, between “I drink tea in the club, you drink pee in the club” and “I done sold my soul so I got a rack.” He’s the only person on either coast who could slide Beauty and the Beast onto an EP that otherwise sounds like it would be banned from all Disney properties. “Girl, Flex” sounds like Outkast’s “Gangsta Shit” if it was was left out in the rain.

ANTWON DOUBLE ECSTASY anticon.

• ABR0159

∵ ANTWON’s first proper release on a label. Fully produced by Lars Stalfors (HEALTH, Cold War Kids, the Mars Volta). Mastered by Joe LaPorta (Young Thug, DJDS, David Bowie). ∵ Fresh off the heels of a tour with Ratking’s Wiki. Summer US & Europe tours planned. ∵ First vinyl pressing on clear red vinyl limited to 1000 units. ∵ P.R. by Liberal Arts / Radio by Terrorbird

Track Listing: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Luv 100k Girl, Flex Club 5. Dri-Fit

Raised in Sunnyvale, a 14-minute Caltrain ride from downtown San Jose, ANTWON cut his teeth at punk and hardcore shows. That’s not only evident when he’s making bouncers fear for their lives and flouting noise curfews. It’s an attitude that seeps into his work even now. You can see it in how he mastered hip-hop’s finer technical points only to break and warp them to suit his own purposes. Since his breakthrough mixtape, 2011’s Fantasy Beds, ANTWON has been praised by critics for his ability to blend aesthetic innovation with a viciously funny personal touch. SPIN has called him “electrifyingly eclectic”; Pitchfork wrote that his last album, Heavy Hearted in Doldrums, was “his boldest collection yet, grounded in improved production and his characteristic schoolboy wit.” Clocking in at fewer than 20 minutes, DOUBLE ECSTASY is just long enough for the Uber ride to whichever party your best-connected, least responsible friend has promised to sneak you into. When, on the closer “Dri-Fit,” ANTWON raps about Molly binges, it’s hard to tell at first if the manic vocal take is supposed to feel like the high, or if the beat’s grey tones are supposed to be the come-down. But that’s the point: depending on who you’re with, they might look just the same.

“Casually brilliant.” – Pitchfork “Over the hard-hittin’ Lars Stalfors-produced beat, Antwon shows off some impressive wordplay & bouncy flow.” – HotNewHipHop “Undeniably his strongest single, to-date, with subtly ferocious production for Lars Stalfors... some of Antwon’s most potent lyrics ever.” – Fact Magazine “Wonderfully showcases Antwon’s idiosyncratic delivery, proving again why his punk-like energy is so infectious.” – Pigeons And Planes “A world of hard beats, synths and dream-like expanses of sound” – i-D Featured by the Fader, Fact, SPIN, Stereogum, Noisey, Pitchfork, and more.

GENRE : METAL FILE UNDER: “B” Body, The “F” Full of Hell RELEASE DATE : May 27, 2016

NO EXPORT TO EUROPE, CANADA, AUSTRALIA

EXPORTABLE TO JAPAN TRACK LISTING: Through their own respective recordings, both The Body and Full of Hell are internationally-revered as forward-thinking entities of harsh music, delivering their audio torment through incredibly intense and often unorthodox methods. The Body’s 2010-released All The Waters Of The Earth Turn To Blood sophomore LP stands among the band’s high points and remains on of the most groundbreaking and frightening albums in recent times. Their subsequent releases, including several LPs and more have continued to expand upon this seminal release. Similarly, Full of Hell rapidly became a favorite amongst hardcore, grind, death and noise metal fans upon their formation with an incredibly energetic and destructive live attack. Their 2013-released Rudiments Of Mutilation sophomore LP solidified them as one of the most damaging new acts going, and since its detonation, the band’s intensity and hunger for experimentation continues to magnify. Both acts are proven collaborators, relishing the results of collective efforts to create life-numbing constellations of distortion and depravity. The two members of The Body have joined forces with arcane producer The Haxan Cloak (Bobby Krlic) for the I Shall Die Here long player, Louisiana’s darkest sludge troupe Thou for You, Whom I Have Always Hated, as well as Nothing Passes with Braveyoung and a myriad of splits with artists as diverse and detesting as Australia’s Whitehorse, Japan’s Vampillia, Rhode Island’s Sandworm and New Jersey’s Krieg taking their virulent, insidious influence to unsuspecting destinations both stateside and abroad. Full of Hell made a huge impression on the ears of fans and those previously unfamiliar with the band with 2014’s two-part alliance with internationally feared noisemonger Merzbow, which resulted in the Full of Hell & Merzbow LP and the subsequent Sister Fawn EP. Their discography is littered with noise-sodden demos and splits that wrench Full of Hell in to fresh dimensions of heaviness and extremity, and their constant live actions never cease to stun.

SEVEN DAVIS JR. Dancing In The Sun Label: Ninja Tune

CAT#: ZEN12434 FORMAT: EP - $12.99 Box Lot: 20 UPC: 5054429004687

Vocalist, producer and all round Soul Controller, Seven Davis Jr continues his intergalactic voyage, picking up the thread from his debut album "Universes" and collating four stellar cuts under the title: "Dancing On The Sun". The title track and it's partner remix 'See The Light' are superb examples of the eclectic SDJR housin' in full flow: a pair of rough 'n' ready and wildly jackin' but oh-so-sweetly swung - four-to-the-floor grooves. Also aimed squarely at the dancefloor, 'Church' marries rave-ready synth stabs with a thunderous drum track and gospel vox. Rounding off the EP, 'Spliffs' slows the tempo down to a thick, woozy, phased-out hip-hop flow. Recorded in London and LA, Seven recruited his friends Silver Tiger and Atari Josh on drums and bass respectively for the EP, boosting the funk on these tracks to new levels. HIGHLIGHTS: • Black 12" in a black and gold printed 3mm spined sleeve. Artwork by Nergal Youkhana. Download code included.

TRACKLISTING

-AndyAndy the Doorbum is a musician and visual/performance artist originally from Charlotte, NC though he has recently resettled in Los Angeles, CA. He has been recording, performing, and touring under his nom de plume since 2005 in a wide array of incarnations and styles. During this time he has released five full length records, as well as several splits and EPs, ranging from experimental low-fi weirdness to lushly orchestrated musical pieces. Lyrically he tends to tap into personal experiences and thoughts that often embody raw and visceral subject matter that reflects sentiments ranging from uneasiness to cathartic honesty. He has toured throughout the US and parts of Europe playing everything from abandoned basements to world music festivals where he has presented his music in various forms from solo acoustic sets, to full ensembles, to choreographed performance pieces more akin to theater productions than musical concerts. He believes in art at all costs and lives by his credo: "Life is a war. Art is the weapon. Create or Perish." -JustinJustin Aswell is a multi-instrumentalist, DJ and Producer based in Charlotte, NC. Justin is one of the world’s top Finger Drummers on Native Instrument’s Maschine. His YouTube videos have reached over 3 million views combined. He’s currently the head Maschine instructor at Dubspot Online and the curator & DJ of Knocturnal. -IntentThe first, hopefully of many, official collaboration from these two seasoned artists. 8 tracks of avantgarde hip-hop production, lyricism and showmanship. Each of these artists is a theatrical showman in their own right, but the combination to the two creates an hybrid that defies boundaries. Following his debut album, ‘Night Forest’ (2012), Siberian-born Beshevli’s ‘Wanderer’ is an emotive, piano-led insight into the bustling, ever-changing inner city life - specifically Moscow, where the musician now resides. The album is also in part influenced by the contrasting escapism, that momentary departure from the noise and distractions of a city can bring. ‘When my life was hard on me, I went to hike alone, away from the city noise and life problems’, explains Beshevli, revealing that as he travels a change is undertaken in approach to his music , as he acquires colours that differ from place to place. The record’s opening title-track skilfully captures this; as Beshevli, inclined to tempo and texture changes, transports the listener from a quickening and dramatic soundscape which then breaks into a calmer more serene chorus. Beshevli was born in Krasnoyarsk, one of Siberia’s biggest cities, in a musical household: his father a professional composer and his mother a musicologist. Despite his backgro und, Beshevli disliked studying music; struggling to maintain at tention sat at the piano whilst friends enjoyed the outdoors. It wasn’t until the age of 21 that he started playing again, when substituting for his Grandma who was working in the local nursery. With no internet and nothing in particular to do, at tention inevitably turned to the nursery’s piano and what Beshevli describes as ‘some sort of destiny’. Explaining his chance re-introduction to playing piano, Beshevli states: ‘Not having higher musical education is good and bad at the same time; I feel like I’m lacking basic knowledge, but our educational system usually kills the individuality. Maybe I would have become an academic musician, but most people would have never heard of me. Nevertheless, I’m s tudying at music university at the moment and we’ll see what this will bring’. Backed by the Imperialis Orchestra, tracks such as ‘The Traveller’s Night Song’ and ‘Memory of Sun’ are bolstered by masterful string-sections, heightening Beshevli’s depiction of his emotions and life experiences that are shaped by his surroundings and reactions to them. Ilya’s beautiful compositions have been compared to that of Yann Tiersen and Ludovico Einaudi, but with his own distinctly Siberian take on the modern classical genre. His expert intertwining of differing moods and textures play out exquisitely on Wanderer, which ends how it begins – a captivating piano solo from Beshevli on ‘A Book of Hours’ marking the journey complete. Having performed across Russia in the likes of the Krasnoyarsk State Opera & Ballet Theatre, Krasnoyarsk Museum Center and the Regional Scientific Library – a 2013 tour culminated in a grand solo concert in October where he played with the a string ensemble to a full house in the widely respected Krasnoyarsk Regional Philharmonic Hall.

A low-rent, self-recorded, self-release recording project for a number of years which eventually evolved into a full band whose line-up has been relatively fluid - to date no less than 14 members over the years. The current line-up includes Keith Parkins (bass), Joe Parker (drums), and Mike (guitar and vocals). Past releases include a series of home recorded/self-released CDs: Attic Abasement EP (2007), Swim Through the Dirt (2008), Dancing is Depressing (2010); a solo cassette EP: Don’t Hate Fuck (2010), and then a split LP (2014) with fellow Rochester band Nod on the prolific Rochester noise label Carbon Records. There are signature sounds at play, Helm’s desolate bell toll’s and sewer pipe communications of gurgling resonance chin up with the spasmodic modular synth refractions and dizzying drum battery of Decimus. Butler - The First Step Following up from the highly regarded “God is Change” E.P on Opal Tapes in 2015, Russell returns in exemplary form to the label for this beautifully and brutally positioned EP of pulsating techno, modular synth acid flex and modern electro warp all conducted from his table of hardware. The A side’s tracks ‘Without Fear’ and ‘The Chill’ see the sun up and glowing with their bucolic charm and rolling bounce, the depth of modular processing forming a kaleidoscopic centre one can stare into. The B side is a much colder affair, the sun drops and mutated 101-esque squelch oozes out into the dark dance floor. Hard acidic burns carry the track out into closer ‘Privilege’, it’s formant synthesis swallowed and stomached sickly, the track is Butler at his best, marrying evolving percussive patterns and trademark Detroit-ish sulking pad’s with a joyous sense of release in the lead acid line. Walking a thin line between light and shade this track introduces us to an artist reaching forwards with their machines. Packaging: CD Jacket From 2000-2011 the prog/world/jam/jazz group Garaj Mahal toured heavily throughout North America. They built a significant fan base and headlined major events like FloydFest, High Sierra, and Smilefest. They released four critically acclaimed studio albums and even more live albums. Here we have their music reinvented, big band style along with founding member Fareed Haque! "Time and time again I am struck by the power and lasting quality of the music of Garaj Mahal. Hippies, jazz heads and even professors can get with this amalgam of hip, funky, world music. Garaj Mahal: hip, educated, and worldly while being raw, honest and in the moment. When Cincinnati Conservatory of Music Jazz Director, Scott Belck, approached me at a gig about a Garaj Mahal big band album I thought he was joking at first. Then I realized this cat knew all our tunes! He seriously wanted to play our music arranged and performed by his orchestra!! Then debut it at Lincoln Center, play it all over the country, record an album. And here it is. So check this one out. The CCM Jazz Orchestra arranged and played this music with me and we had a blast performing and recording it. By the way, This record is meant to be played loud. Crank it up and enjoy!" - Fareed Haque "Fareed Haque has been in the forefront of our instruments evolution for quite some time, and these recent recordings bring us up to date with an impact that’s memorable." - Pat Martino

GARRY TALLENT Break Time STREET DATE: 5/27/16

As a founding member of The E Street Band, Garry Tallent has spent a considerable portion of his life touring the world and playing for legions of fans. In between these musical campaigns, the question fans most often ask is, “So, what do you do in your break time?” With his new album, Garry now has the perfect answer. Break Time is a wonderfully raucous collection of twelve original songs, all written or co-written by Garry. Reaching back to the sounds that initially inspired him; the songs on Break Time use the music of the ‘50s as a framework. But this is no museum piece! Using a largely acoustic ensemble, Garry captures the timeless energy of the era when rock and roots music was born. Upright bass, accordion, archtop guitar and real drums come together in a jubilant festival of song. Drawing from the rich pool of Nashville players, Garry assembled an ace studio crew to help him bring these songs to life. Special guests include guitar giant Duane Eddy, whose unmistakable twang can be heard on “Promise to My Heart,” fellow E Street Band member Nils Lofgren adds harmony vocals on “Ooh La La,” and Cajun superstar Doug Kershaw sings on “Bayou Love.” Music City chanteuse Kristi Rose duets with Garry on the first single, the rockabilly boppin’ “StayAway.” A video for the single has been shot by master artist Bob Delevante, coming soon to a screen near you. Recorded live to 8-track tape at Nashville musician Paul Burch’s Pan American Studios, Break Time is a triumph of analog music making. Co-produced by Garry and Eddie Angel, founder of Los Straitjackets, it sounds like the work of a man who has been in love with rock and roll his entire life. And that’s exactly what it is; Every last note of it.

For over 50 years, when he wasn’t studying mathematical logic, or teaching philosophy at Dawson College in Montreal, Chaim Tannenbaum sidelined as a musician, playing and singing with Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Loudon Wainwright III, Emmylou Harris, Richard Thompson, Peggy Seeger, Martin Carthy, Neill and Calum MacColl, and Kate St. John. He was featured on The McGarrigle Hour (1998) and Wainwright’s Grammy-winning High Wide & Handsome (2009). But he never made a record of his own. Until now. His self-titled debut is a mix of originals and covers. His own songs poignantly depict homesickness, romantic loss, and the perils of rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The covers, which reflect the lifelong enthusiasms of a musical omnivore, range from Yip Harburg to Sweet Papa Stovepipe, from John Betjeman to Peg Leg Howell, and make manifest a mixed-up world muddled somewhere between spritual devotion and material dissolution - in short, the world. For the recording sessions, Chaim blended old running buddies Loudon Wainwright and David Mansfield with a distinguished group of newfound accomplices, including C.J. Camerieri, Erik Friedlander, Will Holshouser, Matt Munisteri, and Marcus Rojas. As author/producer Joe Boyd has noted, “the purchasers of this recording are in for a treat.”

Description: There’s a confounding nature to the comfort constructed by The Myrrors throughout the flawless forty minutes of “Entranced Earth,” the third full‐length album from the transcendentally‐tuned, Tuscon‐tied desert die‐hards (and their second for Beyond Beyond Is Beyond Records). Those looking for terra firma – for ground not given to staggering shifts, for easily grasped handholds, for the force of gravity as we know it – are likely to find the album an often‐groundless experience. But for listeners willing to give themselves over to the landscape presented on “Entranced Earth,” the reward lies in the discovery of new lands, and the sound of a band operating at the peak of their powers. When last we saw the reflection of The Myrrors, it was in the form of their previous release, “Arena Negra,” an album that announced its presence immediately and with high dosage of the appropriate amplification. “Entranced Earth,” by contrast, gives indication of The Myrrors entering an altogether different atmosphere, taking on an altogether higher climb, shorn of all hesitation and allowing their freak flags to unfurl and fly like never before.

The Myrrors Entranced Earth Label: Beyond Beyond is Beyond Catalog Number: BBIBR028 LP / $18.99 / 857387005209

Still, it’s difficult (and altogether unnecessary) to pin down “Entranced Earth” beyond the spires of sonic smoke that the album seems to generate at will. So subtle is the album‐ opening invocation of “Mountain Mourning” that it threatens to never descend from its sky‐bound view, leaving the track that follows, “Liberty Is In the Street,” to offer the album’s first, fading glimpse of solid ground. “On your feet or on your knees” goes the mantra‐like vocal drone, though the effect is likely to bring to mind the Moody Blues more than Blue Öyster Cult (at least, the path of The Myrrors seems to include traces of the footprints left by the one‐time Harvard professor given an early eulogy by the Blues on “Legend of a Mind”). By the time that “No Clear Light” – a torch‐lit, dust‐crusted dirge that can be felt as the beating heart of the album overall – leads listeners toward the nearly nine‐minute title track and album centerpiece, there are doubtlessly many more wanderers pledging allegiance to The Myrrors unnamed cult. Guitars of six and twelve strings, harmonium, tablas, alto sax, bulbul tarang – these are the tools of The Myrrors all‐consuming quest, expertly applied for maximum elevation. Enter the realm of “Entranced Earth,” sit still and let the ground disappear beneath your feet. ‐ Ryan Muldoon

Fight For Us Not Gonna Make It Devil Inside No Honey Been So True Hearts In Danger Loosen Up Dub Of Brother Forest Hurts So Bad Ask Me

Hotflush Recordings is delighted to announce the arrival of a second full length from Sepalcure, the American duo made up of Travis “Machinedrum” Stewart and Praveen “Braille” Sharma. Arriving four and a half years since their acclaimed debut, 11 track album ‘Folding Time’ is a singular and tender statement that lands in May 2016. This special coming together of distinctive musical minds produced a much-loved, self-titled debut LP in 2011, plus six EPs between 2010 and 2013, all of which suggested a penchant for broken beats and bright melodics. Both have since furthered their accomplished solo careers - Braille released his debut solo album Mute Swan, while Machinedrum’s experimental exploration of Vapor City landed on Ninja Tune - that have kept them busy in the studio as well as on the road. As such, and owing to their insistence that any production work had to be done in person "since that results in a certain sound and experience you just can’t recreate remotely”, the new record took some time to come together. With plenty of well paced peaks and troughs along the way, as well as a underlying sense of humour and a very real human warmth, this is an album that works on both head and heel in equal measure.

About:

Tour Dates:

If Salvador Dali’s paintings were music, they would sound like déCollage. Formed in 2009 by Moon Magnet Studio ringleader Reed Fuchs, déCollage is a collective comprised of over 20 of Denver’s most creative musicians, including members of Rose Quartz, Candy Claws, Sound of Ceres, Rubedo, and many more. Their shows are theatrical, free-spirited parties - interactive to the point that the audience gets doused in space blankets while transcendental artists paint on stage. déCollage has played alongside the likes of Animal Collective, of Montreal, and Flaming Lips collaborators Spaceface. Their eclectic psychedelic pop incorporates accordion, glockenspiel, and a canvas of found sounds Reed records. The lyrics navigate our fragmented, post-modern world through metaphysics, surrealism, abstraction, and wonder. déCollage is interested in sounds for their own sake.

NNA is proud to be the home for the latest full length album from Baltimore, Maryland electronic artist Nerftoss, aka John Jones (also of the group Dope Body). Fans of Nerftoss’s previous output can expect the same lush, nuanced sound environments that Jones so expertly crafts, but this time in a more dance-driven, club-friendly setting that pays homage to, while also creatively advancing, the essence of house music. On “Crushed”, Jones creates a colorful and driving set of house-inspired vignettes that flow together effortlessly, providing respites along the way in the form of warped ambient electronic segues that allow the listener to recalibrate before the ecstatic four-on-the-floor rhythms transport you back to the dancefloor. Nerftoss utilizes a healthy dose of dreamy yet off-kilter plunderphonic sampling techniques that align with fellow Baltimore-based electronic music contemporaries (and NNA alumni) such as Co La and PHORK, but integrated into the jazzy melodic chords and metronomic rhythms that are classically associated with house. What makes these tracks especially unique, however, is the sampling of live acoustic percussion (drum kits, maracas, congas, bells, and so on) in conjunction with the traditional electronic drum machines of techno to comprise the dynamic beats. When these hybrid breakbeats are combined with the thick, deep melodic bass lines, the results are extremely powerful, intricate rhythms that create an auditory all-city block party, commanding the human body to move with the music. Cascading drum rolls, Latin rhythms, and funky shakers all dance in unison with the swirling, psychedelic textures and pounding bass kicks, creating a parade of global thump between your ears. The steamy ambient passages are used to alter the mood, but the lack of silence between tracks gives the album a continuous “megamix” tempo, as if you’re listening to the artist DJ-ing his own tracks live in the club. All of these elements together make “Crushed” not only a refreshing and progressive listen, but also a blissful bouquet of melody, texture, dynamics, layering, and fidelity that is the definitive signature of a talented producer’s chops.

1. Magenta Line* (*Suggested tracks) File Under: Experimental / Electronic Label: NNA Tapes Catalog #: NNA091 SRP: Cassette - $8.99 USD UPC: Cassette - 634457730045 Formats: Cassette, Digital

“Magenta Line” is the debut recorded offering from the Fox/Soper Duo, consisting of New York City musicians Greg Fox on drums, and Ryan Soper on modular synthesizer. Soper, an inventive sculptor, video artist, and modular synthesist makes up one half of the NYC-based performance project Non-Native, and is also a member of the A/V trio Brat Pit. Fox is a prolific drummer known for his work in experimental metal outfit Liturgy, as well as bands such as Guardian Alien and Zs, not to mention countless collaborations ranging from Colin Stetson to Dan Deacon to Hieroglyphic Being. On “Magenta Line”, the duo takes on a form that is unexpected for an acoustic-meetselectronic style collaboration. Fox’s drums are slightly filtered and engineered to take on an alien, electronic quality that compliments Soper’s organic, expressive execution of his synth, to the point where the two styles meet in the middle to produce fierce and otherworldly results. For an instrument that manipulates purely electronic impulses, Soper manages to play it in an incredibly physical manner, buzzing, squealing, and roaring in all it’s distorted glory like an electric guitar. Fox’s ability to react and interact naturally with Soper’s synth is remarkable, and a rare feat that few drummers can effectively accomplish. The outcome of this fusion is a style that leans more towards industrial, punk, or metal than it does to jazz or modern improvisation. Unrelenting in it’s exploration, “Magenta Line” gives way to a new style altogether, yielding nearly 45 minutes of uninterrupted gritty and grinding cyborg thrash. Both artists demonstrate a very high level of skill and versatility with their chosen instrument. Fox and Soper each speak their own alien musical language to each other, meeting head-to-head in terms of the range of expression they can achieve with their expansive arsenal of mastered techniques. At times, Soper’s distorted sequences lock into place, providing the rhythmic backdrop for Fox to drum circles around, while at other times Fox lays down heavy, direct beats for Soper to explore the full range of free electronic shredding his synth is capable of. Musical form is firmly established, while extreme sonic and textural freedom is still allowed. “Magenta Line” is a marathon session where new ground is constantly being broken with powerful, crushing physicality. Although the instrumentation is unorthodox for an improvisational duo, the results are incredibly dynamic and exploratory when left in the hands of masterful musicians.

Combining enveloping minimalism with a spellbinding falsetto, Berlin-based songwriter/composer Tom Adams conveys immense emotion utilizing just a few elements. Masterfully balancing tactile acoustic and electronic instruments, Adams’ music is as expansive as it is elegantly peculiar – evoking cinematic odes to nature’s majesty and the divergent depths of the human condition. Receiving accolades for his wideranging output of synth-guided exploits, chamber pop, melancholic piano-ambient works, and moody film scores, Tom Adams veers into the cerebral and introspective on his debut EP for London’s Kowloon Records. Recorded as live takes in a single afternoon, Adams’ neo-classical approach to nuance captures a compelling grace that’s increasingly rare. Bookended by the idyllic ambience of “Voyages By Starlight” and “The Last Farewell”, the heart of the EP is a trio of stargazing ballads. The yearning keys and raw intimacy of “Seven Birds” and “Fade” hypnotize as much as they pull your heartstrings, while the expansive “Stellar” explores a wider sonic palette weaving together delicate piano with arpeggiated cosmic synth pulse. Using the studio as instrument (aided by custom-made Max MSP software), Adams’ exploratory production techniques leave his signature mark on this collection of shimmering electro-acoustic arrangements that echo the ghost of Jeff Buckley circling the musical orbits of modern innovators like Jon Hopkins or Kiasmos. Quickly gaining a reputation for his striking live performances, Tom Adams has recently opened for A Winged Victory For the Sullen, Perfume Genius, Moonface, among many others. He was recently commissioned to remix Max Richter’s ‘Berlin By Overnight’, released by Deutsche Grammophon. In addition to selfreleasing his acclaimed 2015 EP ‘The Constant Noise’, Adams also composed the OST for the Universal Pictures feature film ‘The Knife That Killed Me’.

LITTLE BOYS BLUE

TENNISSIPPI Twenty years and many gigs ago, singer/harp player JD Taylor and guitarist Steve Patterson started the Jackson,Tennessee based band LITTLE BOYS BLUE. Enlisting an array of veteran players, who toured with Nashville country and Sun Records Rockabilly artists, they mixed all their influences from Tennessee and Mississippi Delta Blues styles with flavors of Rockabilly, Rock and Country to create the Little Boys Blue sound. Sometimes working as a duo, Taylor and Patteson became friendly with Rockabilly legend Carl Perkins, and often backed him up during book signings and events. The group played blues clubs, festivals and competitions throughout the southeast. In 1997 they won third place in the Blues Foundation’s Competition. International Blues Competition In 2002 Taylor started traveling to Nashville, where he became part of Nashville’s Music Mafia, playing shows with John Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Hank Williams, Jr, and Kid Rock, and recording with Warner Bros. artists including Blake Shelton. After about five years, JD was drawn back to Jackson, Memphis, and his first love – the Blues. Little Boys Blue has three previous albums, most recently 2014’s BAD LOVE. Their newest, TENNISSIPPI , was recorded at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL and Webb Studios in Memphis, TN. The album features a mixture of electric and acoustic blues, rock ‘n’ roll, and Americana roots music, citing influences from Sleepy John Estes and R.L. Burnside to Muddy Waters and The Allman Brothers. The current band includes JD Taylor, Dave Mallard, Mark Brooks, Alex Taylor (JD’s son) and Dave Thomas. They tour the country, playing major clubs and festivals, and still make a home in the Beale Street clubs..

“THE YARD WORK SIMULATOR” Street Date: 5/27/2016 ZEN227 | ZENCD227

Max and Glenn are music lovers first and foremost – playing it, making it, digging for it, talking about it – music is their lifeblood. It’s this commitment to the art and culture of DJing that has earned them props from Resident Advisor, Boiler Room and the worldwide underground at large. Taking in chunky but totally misshapen four-to-the-floor bangers ‘Where The Fuck Are My Hard Boiled Eggs?!’, ‘Jumbo Frøsnapper’ and previous single ‘Magic Johnson’ alongside the shuffling 7 minute breakbeat epic title track and digi-funk nuggets ‘Money $ex Theme’ and ‘Flat Peter’, the result is a 10track trip through the pair’s deliciously warped psyche, channelled through a ton of hardware. A direct extension of the album’s irreverent sonic palette, the artwork is by friend and illustrator Rahel Süßkind. Sonically and ideologically off to the left of the pristine, highlypolished dance music underground, Max and Glenn have built their reputation on short-run vinyl-only 12”s, real grass roots independent record store excitement/support, turning dancefloors on their head week in week out, and pure word of mouth. It has been solely about the music from the beginning and with The Yard Work Simulator the duo are set to spread their message even further. Recommended if you like: Moodymann, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Harvey Sutherland

Makaya McCraven In The Moment E & F Sides Makaya McCraven's January 2015 offering In The Moment was pared from nearly 48 hours of live, improvised performance recorded at 1 venue over 12 months and 28 shows. Working with instrumental contributions from an array of Chicago jazz players (including Jeff Parker, Joshua Abrams, Marquis Hill, and Matt Ulery), Makaya culled, cut, rendered and remixed the mass of sounds into 19 potent pieces of organic beat music for the original 80-minute, 2xLP issue. The In The Moment E & F Sides contain 40 minutes of additional music from the original In The Moment sessions. These 9 pieces of organic beat music were sampled concurrently, but not fully completed, with the 19 that comprised the original release. Slowly refined by McCraven and mastered in November 2015 by Daddy Kev (founder of Low End Theory, Alpha Pup Records), the In The Moment E & F Sides demonstrate McCraven's further actualization as a unique composer/producer in an epilogue that solidifies the eminence of the original sessions. Available on vinyl in a black 12” sleeve, the E & F Sides LP stands alone OR slides nicely into the gatefold of the original In The Moment 2xLP set (for collectors looking to make an extemporaneous 3xLP set).

M† TTERLEIN Ð Orphans Of The Black Sun Conducted by the incredibly talented songwriter, composer and performer Marion Leclercq, joined by Christophe Chavanon, M† TTERLEIN - with their outstandingly singular debut album - have erased all usual codes, references and clichŽ s to create something utterly unique. "Orphans Of The Black SunÓ is an amazingly gloomy piece of Haunted Rock, a powerful musical fresco weaving fascinating stories of damaged lives, deep neuroses and insanity. This record is a truly emotional experience: a startling voice propels rivers of acid words through the heart of an incomparable sonic environment, masterfully built upon hellish church organs, emaciated guitars, incantatory gospel choirs and ritualistic percussion.

SYBERIA Ð Resiliency The mesmerising second album from BarcelonaÕ s SYBERIA represents a new dawn following a period of heightened turmoil. Both head and body music, Ò ResiliencyÓ documents a mental and spiritual transformation where darkness and light are both essential to the transmission of ideas. Interspersing influences from across the full spectrum of instrumental rock/metal, dream pop and shoegaze, the band juxtapose order and grace with notions of cathartic freedom - finding liberation in beautiful, uplifting melodies that never lapse into oversentimentality.

SYBERIA combine swathes of yearning, crashing crescendos with the serene and pastoral. Tremolo octaves create stately themes from chord progressions which catch you with their heartbreak - ever-questing, hypnotic guitars bring sunlight underpinned by the creeping sense of a tumultuous and complex inner world poised to surface. Dream-like synths and subtle electronic touches create a wide-screen timelessness dotted with barbs and traps, undercurrents of wistful unease which explode into powerfully devastating passages. Ò ResiliencyÓ is exhilarating filmic Rock which, by the albumÕ s poignant conclusion, will have realigned and reinvigorated you without struggle.

THE BOYS WHOSE HEAD EXPLODED

Post punk provocateurs The Pop Group unveil their latest archival release, The Boys Whose Head Exploded, a collection of live recordings drawn from incendiary appearances in late 1979 and 1980, along with a bonus DVD featuring film footage shot by legendary director Don Letts. Largely recorded in 1980, the compilation features brawling versions of songs from the band’s recently reissued second studio album For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder? The collection also includes the previously unreleased 73 Shadow Street, and a surprise mutation of the Glaxo Babies’ Shake The Foundation. The accompanying film footage is a short feature that’s been hiding in Don Letts’ punk rock archives for the past 35 years. Filmed by Letts at Alexandra Palace in June, 1980 at an all day festival that featured the likes of John Cooper Clarke, The Raincoats and The Slits - the rare footage encapsulates the band’s Molotov cocktail of punk, funk, free jazz and radical politics at its most artistically concussive . The vinyl edition comes as a picture disc with a download card to access the film and hi -res audio content. The CD edition includes a DVD of the 1980 footage and a 24 page poster.

LP black vinyl no download included. Swedish artist Amanda Bergman released her debut EP in 2010 under the name Idiot Wind and quickly received attention from both Swedish and international press. Soon after the release of the EP, Amanda joined fellow Swedes First Aid Kit and The Tallest Man on Earth on tour across the globe, and in 2012, Amanda started Swedish band Amason alongside Pontus Winnberg (Miike Snow) and Gustav Ejstes (Dungen). Amason quickly became one of Sweden’s most celebrated bands, receiving praise both in Sweden and internationally. Despite Amason’s busy schedule, Amanda kept writing and recording on her own, and in late 2015 she finished the last touches on what would soon become her first full length solo album Docks, an album that even before its release has been dubbed one of 2016’s most important album releases by several Swedish music journalist heavy-weights. 1.
