MARTIN SEXTON
RELEASE: February 10, 2015
MIXTAPE OF THE OPEN ROAD “Powered by a slinky groove, the song has a loose, open feel that mixes in handclaps, slide guitar licks and slightly distorted vocals on an earworm refrain. Don’t expect the rest of the album to sound like “Remember That Ride,” though: Sexton pieced together “Mix Tape of the Open Road” like an actual mixtape, moving among different sounds and styles.” – WALL STREET JOURNAL MARTIN SEXTON — Remember that mix tape your friend made you way back when - the one that's etched in your soul? Martin Sexton's new album Mixtape of the Open Road is that musical cross-country trip, blazing through all territories of style, as you cruise through time and place. This record is a charm bracelet of twelve gems all strung together with the golden thread of what Rolling Stone calls his "soul marinated voice." Sexton began to chase his musical dreams singing in the streets of Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts, gradually and independently working his way to the premiere venues of North America and inspiring fans and musicians along the way. The activity and touring behind his records laid the foundation for the career he enjoys today headlining all the world-class US and Canadian venues and festivals, such as: New York’s Carnegie Hall, L.A.’s House of Blues, Bonnaroo, Newport, Montreal and New Orleans Jazz Fests, Edmonton and Vancouer Folk Fests, and Austin City Limits.

Thurston Moore / John Moloney : Caught on Tape Full Bleed For their latest spiritual odyssey, Thurston Moore and John Moloney deliver the volcanic and violent maelstrom, Full Bleed. But unlike the helter-skelter out-jazz of Caught on Tape (“Full bore savage highway stuff, the mind exploding with wall melting emotion,” says Moore/Moloney about that platter), Full Bleed collects nine Herculean sludgefeasts dripping of gnarly metal-damaged heaviosity and punk-jazz skronksplattered fury, transmitted in an alien language only this duo can convey. “They became songs as they were played,” Moore/Moloney explain about their writing process. “Composed on the fiery tongue, like how all real cool improv needs to be experienced.” And as far as assigning actual names to the songs? “We titled them to identify them as distinct ‘songs’ because that is what they need to be to survive in this fucked landscape of politician dung patrol. They became snakes.” With the pulverizing thumps ‘n’ thwacks and cymbal-crashing annihilation Moloney inflicts on the skins melted to Moore’s hefty metallic wasteoid licks and jazzmongering fuckery heard on opening salvo “Age Limit,” the title track and “Dispute,” it’s apparent Full Bleed is a distinct beast thick with black metal riffer vibes, sans corpsepaint. Full Bleed penetrates a stratosphere of brutal heaviness and spazzcore jazz traversed by Moore and his fellow figureheads in yesteryear downtown NYC at defunct experimental/jazz hubs, The Knitting Factory, Tonic and The Cooler. Pedal-hopping, apocalyptic doom metal torture (“Full Bleed”), mangled avant-jazz noise noodlage (“Self-Rule”) and tasty SY-like space rock jammage (“Arguing with a Balloon”) portends two dudes on a mission of absolute devastation. Recorded at Sonelab in Easthampton, Massachusetts with oft-engineering cohort Justin Pizzoferatto and cover art courtesy of Moloney, Full Bleed is the heaviest of spasmodic bliss from two kindred bohemian noise spirits. A tour in support of Full Bleed may transpire. Or not. “John and I, whether in Caught on Tape, or in any of our other side projects ALWAYS tour,” says Moore. “We are soldiers of the road, warriors of the wing – buses, vans, cars, trains, bicycles — we get to gigs and we plug in whether we are expected to or not. We just may play again in support of this LP if we can find the minutes where the universe allows us to be in the same room at the same time.”

Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley on a steady diet of punk and glitter rock, Prima Donna are infamous on the L.A. scene. Unlike many of their contemporaries, however, this foursome not only taps into early British Invasion rock-n-roll as translated by sax-infused bands such as the Dave Clark Five, early Stooges and The Sonics, but they also put their own snarling, fullthrottle spin on it, leaving just enough L.A. sleaze in the mix to make it their own. Their curriculum includes musical road trips with Eddie and the Hot Rods, Adam Ant, D-Generation and even Green Day, who they supported on two arena tours on two continents. Frontman Kevin Preston has also continued participation in Green Day side-project Foxboro Hot Tubs. While touring the US and Europe, Prima Donna was in and out of the studio numerous times, both at home in L.A. and in Milan, Italy. The finished product is Nine Lives and Forty-Fives, an 11-song variety pack that displays the band’s skills in the studio, and compiles some of their rarest and rawest recordings, including “Rock and Roll is Dead,” available for the first time in U.S. The track was named one of the Top Ten Songs of 2013 by Little Steven’s Underground Garage.

JEFF AUSTIN
THE SIMPLE TRUTH RELEASE DATE: 2/10/2015
Jeff Austin has been playing professionally for nearly 20 years, most of them as the vocalist/mandolinist of the game-changing bluegrass jam act Yonder Mountain String Band. Austin has long harbored urges to stretch out musically—and even cast a few pop hooks of his own. He finally makes the leap on The Simple Truth, his solo debut (releasing Feb. 10th, 2015) and maiden voyage with Yep Roc Records. Accompanying him is an eager troupe of trustworthy fellow travelers chartered as the Jeff Austin Band: Danny Barnes (of Bad Livers fame) on banjo, guitars and vocals; Ross Martin on guitars; and Eric Thorin on basses and vocals, with North Mississippi Allstar Cody Dickinson on drums, percussion and electric washboard. The result is an album that truly reflects Austin’s goal of crafting a sonic document unconstrained by the limitations jamgrass, newgrass or whatever other names it wears. The Simple Truth captures the energy and excitement of that party, as well as the quiet moments of contemplation that happen after guests leave. If one must give it a label, Americana will do, but he prefers to call it, simply, “American music, written from my experience as a 40-year-old guy in America.”

Jill Barber FOOL’S GOLD “My greatest hope is that it ends up becoming the soundtrack to some perfect romance, or at the very least a great cocktail party,” says Jill Barber of her new album, ‘Fool’s Gold,’ out February 9th via Outside Music. Jill - aka “Canada’s sweetheart” - is a two-time Juno Award nominee and Montreal Jazz Fest headliner whose last album hit #1 on the iTunes Jazz charts, and landed her a national segment with NPR. She has collaborated with Josh Ritter, Ron Sexsmith, and Kris Kristofferson has called her a “damn good songwriter.” She also published a children’s book, entitled ‘Music is for Everyone,’ this May. ‘Fool’s Gold’ explores every nook of Jill’s musical history: sultry torch songs, Hank Williamsinspired ballads, an homage to the golden era of the Brill Building, Motown and beyond. Lead single “Broken For Good” ventures into the early days of Motown with its strong backbeat, horns, a driving bass line and immediate pop appeal. She channels Patsy Cline on “The Careless One,” a bittersweet Western, full of resignation and sorrow. As Jill puts it, “It hurts me to sing it, just a little. But that’s how I know it is a keeper.” The record was produced in Toronto by longtime collaborators and bandmates Les Cooper and Drew Jurecka. “Fool’s Gold strikes a beguiling balance between wistful nostalgia and modern sophistication, a record that conjures memories of Dusty Springfield and Peggy Lee.” - The Boston Globe SELLING POINTS
• Jill Barber has sold over 100,000 albums in North America, been nominated for 30 awards including 2 Juno Awards • Appeared on The Harald Schmidt Show and ZDF Morgenmagazin on her last tour of Germany • Jill’s songs have been placed in hit TV shows “Orange is the New Black,” “The L Word,” “Fringe” and in a commercial for the Dodge Journey • Fool’s Gold debuted as the #1 selling jazz album in Canada and remained #1 for 6 weeks • Recent Performances: Toronto’s Massey Hall, NPR Mountain Stage, Acoustic Cafe, WNYC Soundcheck and Canada’s #1 Morning Show - Canada AM

ROBIN McKELLE & THE FLYTONES
HEART OF MEMPHIS Acclaimed as one of the great new jazz singers, Robin McKelle has been been taking risks, redefining her artistic identity and mining her inspirations in blues and soul music. Though much of this Rochester, New York native’s career has been based in Europe, her latest record finds her drawn to the core of American blues and soul, the HEART OF MEMPHIS. It ‘s in the cradle of the Blues that she imagined making this explosive album in the great soul tradition of the 60/70’s, adding a contempory touch with her songwriting. Produced by Scott Bomar of the Bo-Keys, the man behind the mixing console for many of Isaac Hayes’ and Al Green’s recording sessions—McKelle made it clear she wanted her album to be in line with the sound of these artists. With her deep voice and her earthy, frank, direct and gut-wrenching singing, STREET DATE: McKelle embraces the legacy of those great artists from a city well-known for its tendency - TRACKS toward raw expression.
2/10/2015
Robin McKelle released an album of traditional swing jazz recorded with a big band, Introducing Robin McKelle in 2006, and after a NPR segment on Robin, the album jumped to the top of the Billboard and Amazon charts. Soon the jazz world was ecstatically talking about the next Ella Fitzgerald, and comparing her favorably to the likes of Nancy Wilson. A French record company licensed the album and issued a follow-up, Modern Antique (2008). McKelle started touring major festivals and clubs around the world with great success. But in 2010 the woman from Rochester, New York, decided to take a courageous risk with her album, Mess Around, which revisited themes dear to Leonard Cohen, Doc Pomus, and Willie Dixon. A year later she continued refining her identity as an artist with the release of Soul Flower, an album in which she took on a much larger songwriting role.

For HEART OF MEMPHIS McKelle wrote eleven of the thirteen titles. Surrounded by her loyal Flytones and helped by her bass player and musical partner Derek Nievergelt, she took up the challenge in 2013 of crafting amazing and authentic soul music songs. “I really love writing,” she says. “It’s important to continue to create new sounds and push ourselves into unknown places. That’s what artists are put on this earth for, taking risks and chances.” Even though she doesn’t deny her influences, Robin McKelle manages to write captivating bluesy and soulful songs without falling into the revivalist trap, and remains genuinely sincere while retaining a ON TOUR NOW strong point of view as an artist. Overview: The third and most accomplished album to date from Rone, Creatures is a reflection of quiet open spaces, sun, shadow, electronic sparks andacoustic beauty. Rone’s tracks are short stories with a distinctly optimistic energy, presenting a soundworld where machines express themselves without constraint at any moment. Previous albums’ Spanish Breakfast (2009) and Tohu Bohu (2012) unveiled a sensitive artist overflowing with creativity, enthusiasm and personality. But while Tohu Bohu showed an organization of Rone’s “personal chaos”, conceiving this new album was a resolutely collaborative experience reflected in an illustrious cast of guest artists including Bryce Dessner (of The National), François & the Atlas Mountains, Etienne Daho, Sea Oleena and more. In Europe Rone has played some of biggest festivals and has toured the US with Ghostly’s Com Truise last fall which took him on a full US tour from Decibel in Seattle to Music Hall of Williamsburg in New York. Immaculately produced dream pop from another galaxy, "Quietly" picks up from the dreamiest parts of 2013 debut "Sleeper”. Tracklisting: 1. Quietly 2. Let Go
An alien landscape –– an anthemic lullaby with a dash of Kurt Vile heartland desperation –– it's the sound of a waking dream, her voice and breath hovering like a pink cloud over glacial territory (further enhanced by the superb mixing of Supersilent's sonic architect Helge Sten). The sound of suburban ennui, of life and death rubbing shoulders. Sometimes the quietest things are the most powerful.
Credits: Written, recorded and produced by Carmen Hillestad. ”Quietly” mixed by Helge Sten. ”Let Go” mixded by Carmen Hillestad. Mastered by Greg Calbi.
The mostly instrumental b-side "Let Go" plays the role of comforter. Lifting off into the air, Villain pops in for some whispers toward the end. You just slow down.

The Killjoys - Naïve DAMAGED GOODS LP DAMGOOD436LP 05020422043619 $20.99 Limited repressing of a long lost Killjoys mini album which originally came out on DG back in 1991, this time it’s on red, white and blue vinyl! Before Kevin Rowland launched Dexys Midnight Runners he was the lead singer in this great punk band from the Midlands. Classic amphetamine punk. They were supposed to be making tapes for an album but they split before anything happened and a supposed deal with Bronze was scuppered by Mr Rowland. Around mid 77 they lost Heather and Joe 90 (on Kevin’s insistence probably) and acquired a new drummer, Bob Peach, and guitarist Keith Rimell and became virtually a different band as Mr Rowland again sought to jump ship.. And lastly from Rowland himself these words from Mojo October 2001. “There was no doubt in my mind that I was at least as passionate and angry and as from the street as any punk rock singer you could name. But it was wrong for me to try to be part of someone else’s thing.” 1 At Night 2 Recognition 3 Naïve 4 Johnny Won't Get To Heaven 5 Johnny Won't Get To Heaven (Edit) 6 Johnny Won't Get To Heaven (Live) 7 Interview 8 At Night 9 Trevor's Sob

Three years have passed since the Revellions released their last single and it’s been five years since their eponymous debut album on Dirty Water Records. This will be the one album this year for which anticipation is high. This is the one the fans have been waiting for. The album contains contributions from members old and new and spans a riotous five years, much of which was spent touring around Europe with recording sessions in Dublin fitted in when they were able to drag themselves out of the pub. Despite the time lapse and line up changes, this is no difficult second album. It’s a coherent collection of tracks that truly represents the band at this time. This is a band becoming tighter than ever with new songs to not just rival but surpass those on the debut. 1. Bitter & Twisted 2. Sighs 3. Don’t Wait For Me 4. Give It Time 5. In Vino Veratas 6. This raw rhythm’n’beat garage-rock’n’roll combo, headed up by the ubiquitous veteran rocker, Sir Bald Diddley (aka Hipbone Slim), delivers super rough, tough and wild mid’60s inspired sounds that are just about as frantic as a pack of dogs in a lamp post factory. It’s British beat at its best, loaded with grab-your-throat guitar riffs, snarling vocals, wailing harp and much maraca shaking -- proper raw-as-you-like freakbeat, inspired by the likes of the Pretty Things, Kinks, Downliners Sect, Them, Birds, Stones, Yardbirds, Jimmy Reed, Sonics….. 1. MARTHA - COURTING STRONG Fortuna POP! DIGI CD
FPOP172CD 5060044172243 $14.99
Providing energetic, impassioned pop punk, Martha are informed by 90s indie rock and Scandinavian anarcho noir. The album, produced by MJ from Hookworms, is laden with harmonies and interchangeable vocals whilst still retaining the energy and excitement of the band’s live shows. Formed in 2011 Martha have fast become a staple of the UK DIY pop scene. It’s a semi-autobiographical story about growing up in a small town, with a sense of not fitting in but on the way finding people who share that feeling. It’s an album for the people who stayed in their hometown, and for the people who still go back and visit. Martha’s melodic punk pop celebrates being an outsider whilst being part of a community. The album touches on uncertainty, fear and loneliness whilst exuding an effervescent sense of excitement and joy. There’s darkness beneath the pop surface - but there are also songs about teenage antics, drinking, courting and having your heart broken. “Martha have mastered that neat Buzzcocks trick of riding those gloriously glowing guitars with sweet, comfortingly-fey voices singing in irresistible harmony. In short, they’re pretty darn great” Clash Magazine 1 Cosmic Misery 2 1997, Passing in the Hallway 3 Present, Tense 4 Dust, Juice, Bones & Hair 5 Bubble in My Bloodstream 6 Move To Durham and Never Leave 7 Gin and Listerine 8 Sleeping Beauty 9 1967, I Miss You I'm Lonely 10 So Sad (So Sad)
Communions - So Long Sun / Love Stands Still Tough Love 7" TLV077 5055869501750
$8.99
Following their debut EP, Cobblestones, released on Posh Isolation at the start of 2014 , So Long Sun is available on limited 7” , and is backed by another new track, Love Stands Still. Communions are a new young quartet from Copenhagen who came together at Mayhem, the same four-wall rehearsal space as contemporaries Iceage and Lower, and it's from this same studio/venue complex that most of Copenhagen’s new punk, industrial and synth scene originates. Though Communions share a flame with the current Copenhagen wave, the torch is certainly their own. The band, made up of brothers Martin and Mads Rehof, Jacob van Deurs Formann and Frederik Lind Köppen, record in their rehearsal space and in Frederik’s bedroom, resulting in songs sounding exactly as they were intended, where the guitars scream like torn throats and the songs beat in rhythm of young hearts pouring over with passion.

In 1982, Eddie Money was a hugely successful and famous artist with a string of hit singles and platinum albums to his name. Eddie’s raspy tones and his penchant for earthy blue collar rock had served him well. ‘Where’s The Party?’ was his fifth an album largely produced, as was his previous platinum smash ‘No Control’, by veteran studio wizard, Tom Dowd (Derek & The Dominoes, Cream etc) in Los Angeles, surrounded by a number of top session players, including members of Mr Mister, The Steve Miller Band and Rod Stewart’s band. In keeping with previous recordings Eddie co-wrote a selection of radio friendly, tough-guy rock tracks that gave full reign to his mellifluous voice. Whilst it’s true to say that none of the tracks on this album achieved hit single status, the body of work is beyond reproach, serving up a choice selection, songs such as ‘The Big Crash’, ‘Club Michelle’ and ‘Backtrack’, that fit firmly into the Money trademark sound of solid riffs and big shout-it-loud hooks. Track listing: Maybe Tomorrow; Bad Girls; Club Michelle; Back On The Road; Don’t Let Go; The Big Crash; Where’s The Party?; Leave It To Me; Backtrack
Can’t Hold Back CD
CANDY252
5055300384201 $20.99
‘Can’t Hold Back’ was Eddie’s sixth album and the first to be produced by Richie Zito, a man with an impressive resume, including crafting records by Cheap Trick, Heart and Bad English. Issued in 1986, the album moved Eddie’s career firmly back in the spotlight, giving rise to no less than three hit singles, including ‘I Wanna Go Back’ and ‘Endless Nights’. However it was the killer track ‘Take Me Home Tonight’ that put the icing on this particular cake, with Eddie duetting with iconic vocalist Ronnie Spector. The result of the collaboration and accompanying video was spectacular, helping to send the track to #4 on the US singles chart. Joined by the cream of the session world including bassist Randy Jackson (Journey), drummer Mike Baird (Michael Bolton) and keyboard maestro Steve George (Mr Mister) his voice is triumphant and the material is first class. Every reason to believe, in fact, that this album is the pinnacle of Eddie’s career. Take Me Home Tonight; One Love; I Wanna Go Back; Endless Nights; One Chance; We Should Be Sleeping; Bring On The Rain; I Can’t Hold Back; Stranger In A Strange Land; Calm Before The Storm
