JIM WHITE VS. THE PACKWAY HANDLE BAND TAKE IT LIKE A MAN
LP RELEASE DATE: JANUARY 13, 2015 When Athens, GA outfit the Packway Handle Band sought Jim White out to produce an album, the quintet learned he had a massive stash of bluegrass songs just waiting to be sprung on the world — and they would make the perfect slingshot. “When I’d heard ’em play a couple of years earlier,” White says, “I muttered under my breath, ‘I wish I could have that much fun playing music.’ When they offered me the chance to produce, I thought, ‘How can I undermine this?’” The answer is Take It Like A Man, the new Yep Roc Records release by Jim White vs. The Packway Handle Band, due out January 27, 2015. Sounding like an ivory-tower academic one minute and a stand-up comedian the next, he explains that term versus addresses the “conflagration of opposing mindsets” as an answer to the question, “What happens when we throw these two unlikely elements together?” The album alternates between White and Packway compositions; only one track, the campy bluegrass rave-up “Corn Pone Refugee,” is a co-write (credited to White and Packway’s Josh Erwin). The first single, “Not A Song,” by Packway mandolinist Michael Paynter, is an infectious, upbeat melody fueled by clever lyrics and la-da-da harmonies. In the hands of White and the ebullient Packway Handle Band, the whole album adds up to a huge dose of fun, with just a dash of sorrow.
HIGHLIGHTS: - Press: Exclusive track premieres already at American Songwriter, Relix and The Bluegrass Situation - Radio campaign at AAA/Non-Comm in January - US Tour late January through March 2015 -A lbum features “Wordmule Revisited” a reworking of Jim White’s “Wordmule” famously used in the TV show Breaking Bad - LP being released 2 weeks in advance of CD/digital - 180 Gram vinyl w/ CD insert and download code TRACK LISTING: SIDE A 1. Smack Dab in a Big Tornado 2. Breathing Room 3. Corn Pone Refugee 4. Not a Song 5. Jim 3:16 6. Gravity Won’t Fail SIDE B 7. Wordmule Revisited 8. Paranormal Girlfriend 9. Blood on the Fiddle, Blood on the Bow 10. Sorrow’s Shine 11. Sinner!

PRESENTS
Few if any producers have managed to make the transition between hip-hop and house as successfully as Vincent Williams, a.k.a. DJ Spinna. But until now his hip-hop career has been better documented. Here, for the first time, is a collection of the cream of Spinna’s house remixes, a collection likely to win a place in the homes of anyone who loves their house music with a deep and soulful twist. Brooklyn-born Spinna absorbed all the influences that were available to a young man growing up in 1980s New York, from the Caribbean and Latin vibes found in his own home (his father’s record collection a major stimulus), through the block-rocking beats that were being dropped by the nascent hip-hop scene at neighbourhood parties, to the soul and disco being spun by Frankie Crocker and Shep Pettibone on the radio, and by Larry Levan at The Paradise Garage where Spinna became a punter. Spinna took this rich musical heritage and ran with it, learning to DJ and quickly gaining a rep for himself on the hip-hop scene of the latter-half of the ‘90s, a reputation cemented by a string of classic studio productions as part of The Jigmastas. When the hip-hop scene split so radically between its commercial and underground wings towards the end of the decade, Spinna, a hero of the underground, found himself frustrated by its inherent insularity. ‘I didn’t want to be playing to the same two-dozen guys every night’ he says. Sure enough, Spinna almost immediately found a wide audience for his dance productions, hitting paydirt with his remixes for UK singer Shaun Escoffery, achieving cult success in New York with Space Rider and true worldwide anthem status with Days Like This –one of the biggest tunes of the past ten years or so for the soulful house cognoscenti. Both are included here, along with his remixes of stellar contemporaries like Kerri Chandler, Karizma and Louie Vega, ‘live’ artists including Raul Midon, Bah Samba, saxophonist Jimmy Sommers with Rahsaan Patterson, Fertile Ground and Tortured Soul, and a slew of up and coming dance producers. KEY SELLING POINTS: • First ever full retrospective of DJ Spinna’s career as a House Music Producer with full involvement of DJ Spinna who is available for interviews • Extended booklet, telling the full story • Full press and radio campaign UK, France, Germany, USA • Includes previously unavailable exclusive edits by DJ Spinna • For Fans of Masters at Work, Osunlade, Southport Weekender, Sunce Beat

When Bolan delivered the seminal album Electric Warrior to his record company he knew he was now free to set up his own label and run things his way. Over the next six months he recorded the basis of what would become his next ( and biggest selling) album ‘The Slider’ for his own ‘The T.Rex Hot Wax Co.’ Alongside these tracks this box set features tracks that never made it onto record and have been included here for the very first time. This material has been gathered together over many years from collectors, fans and auction rooms and is controlled by the family and produced in association with The Official Marc Bolan Merch.Co.

Here and Now would take The Fall, Danny and the Dressmakers (inc future 808 State man Graham Massey), Wilful Damage and Alternative TV on their anarchic tours after Deeply Vale. "Hailing from Denmark, psych duo The Wands are the aural sound of an acid trip at the blissedout point when your arms appear to be made of rainbows.” – NME Comprised of childhood friends Christian Skibdal and Mads Gräs, The Wands debut album is a record that celebrates flamboyant, hallucinogenic acid rock. Indeed, it’s a record flecked with the remnants of lives spent growing up together; one abound with signposts that point toward a naïve outlook, a childishness even, but a musical maturity and knowingness that only comes from immersion and hanging out with your best friend for 20 years. On opening track, and current single, Sound of The Machine, they stick a middle finger to the man (“there's an island of misplaced toys / it's a sea of sweet delight / on the planet of misfit boys / they jump at the chance of a good fight”) while former single The Dawn yearns for a simpler time. Similarly, Get It Out of Your System’s effervescent glam romp belongs in the playground, while closing track The Name of The Mountain lumbers to a momentous, dizzying, triumphant conclusion, ablaze with Gräs’ own ever-present but never intrusive wandering guitar. Through the haze, emerges another thoughtful refrain, “It's the name of the mountain / It's the road we decide / Spending hours counting flowers that we're leaving behind”. This is what The Wands do. They want to “shine a light on all the dark, serious sh**”. Sound Of The Machine, And Full Of Colours, Totem Part II, She Is Electric, Get It Out Of Your System (Don't You Wanna Feel Alright?), War, The Dawn, Circles, Spell My Name, The Name Of The Mountain.

Billy Childish is an international cult figure, painter, poet and novelist. He has released over 120 independent albums and influenced a vast range of musicians . His latest band is CTMF. Billy’s description of their sound holds true - “the sound of yesterday, tomorrow” Acorn Man is arguably one of Childish most accessible LPs, showcasing Childish's love of punk rock and beat. Traces of dirge and the The Fall mingle effortlessly with unbounded pop on tracks such as 'It's So Hard to be Happy.' Childish's 35 year quest for the 'ever essential bones of pop' bears fruit and remains true to to his opening gambit back in 1977. 1/ It's So Hard To Be Happy 2/ Zero Emission 3/ He Wore A Pagan Robe 4/ A Flame From The Fen 5/ What Is This False Life You're Leading 6/ Acorn Man 7/ Punk Rock Enough For Me 8/ Me Or Mine 9/ Curious Filters 10/ The Song Of Myself 11/ Acorn Man (Slight Return) 12/ Instantly Delete
Carnivores
Let's Get Metaphysical
Smalltown America LP STA143LP 5060188800972
$19.99
Described by the NME as sounding like 'Weezer being beaten up by The Dillinger Escape Plan', Carnivores draw influence from Fugazi, At The Drive-In, Idlewild, Helmet, Elvis Costello and Nirvana. Carnivores are a three-piece rock band based in Paisley, Scotland. Formed in the late 2000's they got to work the old fashioned way, touring the toilet venues of Scotland in a battered estate car building a fan-base show by show. They quickly gained a reputation as one of the craziest live bands in Scotland. Carnivores are: Kenny Leckie (vocals / guitar), Grant M (bass/vocals) and Martin Johnston (drums/backing vocals). Their debut album 'Let's Get Metaphysical'. Recorded live in just six days with producer Bruce Rintoul (Twin Atlantic/Fatherson), the album captures the raw intensity of the band's live show matched with a more melodic, introspective aspect to Carnivores sound 1. Let's Get Metaphysical | 2. Insecuricor | 3. Crooked Teeth | 4. Apathy In The UK | 5. Watching Fireworks | 6. Scottish Football | 7. A Shadow Of A Shadow | 8. The Second Wave Of Yuppie Scum | 9. Kepi Goes Country
Kepi Ghoulie Hello Redeyers! This is not so much a one sheet as an actual message/greeting from Kepi Ghoulie! I really want to tell you about this new recording I have coming out: “Kepi Goes Country!” I have been playing music for over 30 years, and if you asked me to hand you ONE recording of what I have accomplished with my life, THIS would be it! :) Recorded near a castle in France (no kidding, we are already on a magical path here, yes?), and then brought back to California, where the talents of Lucy and Gwendolyn Giles (Dog Party) were added to the production, mandolin, keyboard stylings, and more from the incomparable Third Man recording artist David Houston, this thing just kept growing with depth and beauty... This is a project that I have been wanting to undertake for the last few years... coming from a punk/rock n roll/garage background and a love of roots music, and touring relentlessly acoustic for the last few years, and I am so happy with the way that this turned out!! We often call this thing we do, this business of ours, a music industry... ultimately, however, the thing that we are selling is ART, and sometimes the ART gets lost in the commerce... With “Kepi Goes Country,” what you have transcends ART and commerce! Sure it is both, but what you have is FRIENDS having FUN, creating MEDLODY and POSITIVITY in a musical environment, and to me, that is EVERY SINGLE REASON to get into this line of “business” after all! Sure the record title is a tip of the hat to the legendary record created by Jonathon Richman, isn't he an inspiration to ALL of us? He sure should be.. making music, traveling the world, making people happy... sounds good to me! I have spent 30 years making and performing music, and if I could this EVERY night, with THIS batch of people, I would be a very happy fellow! But from here I will be off to do other projects with other awesome friends... “Kepi Goes Country” represents a personal high mark in a very long and fruitful career, I sincerely hope you feel the same way! If not, that's cool too, because this is ART, and ART is subjective! I hope you are having an amazing day, finding some music, art, or friends that give you a great feeling! Cheers, and thanks for listening! Your Pal, Kepi Track Listing: 1. Let's Do It Again 2. I Wanna Have Fun 3. Are You Passionate? 4. Fortune Teller 5. Ring of Fire 6. Hair of Gold ( And Skin of Blue) 7. Til Death Do Us Party 8. Carly Simon 9. She Gets All The Girls 10. Rock & Roll Shark 11. Running With Bigfoot
