"Flawless. A triumph.” AFRO-PUNK "The double LP is a fully realized piece of art that demands you to spend time with it, read every lyric and be ready to pop over to wikipedia a few times to dig even deeper…" EXPLODING IN SOUND

Blending their uniquely angular brand of DC indie rock with dense layers of electronics, beats, strings, horns, noise, samples and more, Beauty Pill Describes Things As They Are reflects the kind of artistic growth that takes years to emerge, and in this case those years also included band leader Chad Clark surviving a rare, life threatening heart disorder. Musically, the album is informed by the band’s array of interests that includes experimental electronic music, hip-hop, vintage post-punk, jazz, and artists that refuse categorization like Arto Lindsay (whose “The Prize” is covered by Beauty Pill on this album) and Brian Eno. Clark also notes that he wants listeners to feel like they are “inside the songs,” a quality that was born out of the unusual environment that Beauty Pill chose to record the bulk of this album. For two weeks, they participated in “Immersive Ideal,” a special commissioned project for Artisphere, a Washington, DC arts center that allowed visitors to observe the band at work creating the album.

★ Vinyl available in three different COLORS. 1st Pressing Coke Clear, 2nd Crystal Clear, 3rd Trans Red. Fans are buying all three. Sticker indicates which edition. ★ CD package by 6-time Grammy nominated design firm White Bicycle and features 32-page deluxe booklet, custom die-cut outer packaging and additional artwork and photos.

GOSPELBEACH Pacific Surf Line

GospelbeacH is Tom Sanford (drums), Brent Rademaker (vocals, guitar), Jason Soda (vocals, guitar), Neal Casal (vocals, guitar), and Kip Boardman (vocals, bass), with guest appearance by Nelson Bragg (vocal harmonies), and Ben Knight (guitar). The five members of GospelbeacH possess a prestigious collective resume that includes membership in Beachwood Sparks, Further, The Tyde, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals, and Everest. But one listen to the quintet’s warmly wonderful debut album Pacific Surf Line will instantly dispel any preconceptions about supergroup self-indulgence or side-project slumming. The album—which Brent and Jason co-produced with Scott Hackwith, known for his studio work with the likes of Spiritualized and the Ramones—embodies an open-hearted optimism that’s reflected in the band’s sunny, upbeat songcraft, and in the buoyant, organic performances that show off the quintet’s uncanny, instinctive chemistry.

ARTIST BIO Doug Hream Blunt learnt to play music at the age of 35, by taking an evening class in the Golden Gate neighborhood of San Francisco in the late 1980s. The class was organized by a local high school music teacher and his wife, and held in a small home-built studio of their garage. In the years to come, Doug wrote and self-pressed an album called “Gentle Persuasion”. The other students of the class became Doug’s band members, while his teacher joined on vibes and his wife on bass. (Doug learnt to play guitar from the teacher, who actually didn’t know how to play himself - thus letting Doug develop his very own (wild!) style of playing). Doug then let the album sit in his garage for five years, before he started taking it around to a few shops around SF. For promotion, he would play acoustic, solo shows for patients and elderly people at a hospital where he worked as a nurse’s aid. At a few occasions, he also arranged to play on the City Visions Public Access television show, which, like his record and hospital shows, went pretty much unnoticed. Today, Doug is starting to receive a cult following. With admirers such as Ariel Pink, Dam-Funk, David Byrne and Jamie Lidell, he has had a direct influence on the art and music of Dean Blunt, who has not only taken his name, but also created work following the steps of Doug - recording music with non-musicians and sidestepping other norms for ‘how things should be done’.

'Howl' is the new album by Rival Consoles, London-based electronic producer Ryan Lee West, set for release through Erased Tapes on 16th October 2015. Foremost a guitarist, growing up listening to rock rather than club music, West continues to strive towards finding a more personal balance between music for home listening and larger spaces. The title track was inspired by the howl-like tones he developed by running synths through guitar pedals. "By slowly drifting the pitch through distortion and delays, the result sounded like vocal cries – something which was perfect for the song and this inspired me to take on a darker set of tones across the whole album. It was made over the past few years, inspired by capturing small performances on synths, touring with some of my musical heroes, playing with feedback when I should have been catching a train, sampling my voice in unexpected conditions and recording textures in different countries.” The album explores a wide range of emotions; from the dissonance eruptions and primal rhythms in 'Howl', to the mournful improvisations of '3 Laments', which features a sample of his own voice. Alongside his performances on Moog, Prophet, tape delay and guitar, West enlisted the help of drummer Fabian Prynn for ‘Low’ and cellist Peter Gregson for ‘Walls’, both long-time collaborators of Erased Tapes peers Douglas Dare and Michael Price. "This album features a lot of my own recordings, rather than simply using samples that I have sitting on my computer. This gives the album a more personal feeling, which is very important to me because I think we live in a time where there is just so much recorded material out there, and accessible at a click of a button, that the joy of recording your own drum sounds, your own percussion, your own claps, seems redundant – but it’s not! That should be a priority because its often more interesting and makes you choose a different creative path." It’s rarely reported that Rival Consoles was Erased Tapes' very first signing, with a CDR of early demos under the name Aparatec that inspired founder Robert Raths to start the label. Indeed West has more in common with his contemporaries Nils Frahm and Peter Broderick than some might think. His consistent desire to create a more organic, humanised sound sees West often draft early ideas on traditional, acoustic instruments like the guitar or the piano; forming pieces that capture a sense of songwriting behind the electronics. "I try to create atmosphere and mood throughout with a less-is-more approach to composition. I'm always trying to find an exciting reaction from a few ingredients, because that is magic to me. To make something interesting with tons of layers of effects just doesn't excite me. But to make something interesting with just three layers requires a special alignment of sounds, ideas and timing. This is my most personal work to date, following on from 'Odyssey' and 'Sonne' which gave me the confidence to continue exploring my own ideas and approach to sound. The essence of this album was made with a few synths, some guitar pedals and lots of cups of tea. I hope you’ll enjoy it." Having repeatedly performed at such prestigious venues as the Tate, and having created a bespoke audio-visual performance for Boiler Room at the V&A Museum, the blueprint for West’s current live A/V show was formed. Featuring self-programmed visuals in Max/MSP has earned him appearances at music festivals around the world including Mutek, Decibel, Big Ears and Berghain’s Pop-Kultur Festival, as well as tours in support of Clark, Nosaj Thing, Luke Abbott and Kiasmos. September 2015 will see West perform his live A/V Rival Consoles shows at Mutek Bogotá in Colombia, followed by Mutek Mexico and additional North American headline shows in October.

DC561 2xLP/CD/CS List Price: $31.98/$14.98/$8.98 Release Date: October 23, 2015 NO EXPORT TO EUROPE, NO CDS TO JAPAN OR AUSTRALIA TRACK LISTING: Anecdotes – Sapokanikan – Leaving the City – Goose Eggs – Waltz of the 101st Lightborne – The Things I Say – Divers – Same Old Man – You Will Not Take My Heart Alive – A Pin-Light Bent – Time, As A Symptom ...further along and down the road apiece from where she took her leave of us, Joanna Newsom plays on. Breathe deep and equalize your today-ears to the new world of Divers... Good heavens — five years go by — what can one do? Dive, listener, knowing that your next hour will be filled with diversions aplenty: a wheeling circuit of sci-fi sea-shanties and cavalier ballads, narrated from parts unknown; a family of polysemic song-sets; a paranomasaic Liederkreis of harmonic sympathies and knotted hierarchies; a fanfare of brazen puns and martial lullabies, blazing in sorrow and horseplay and love, in turns symphonic and spare, joined by Mellotrons and Marxophones and Moogs, clavichords and celestas—and of course the harp, thrumming its threnodies of circadian invasions and avian irruptions and strange loops of Shepard-toned resonant-frequencies and something called goddamned Simulacreage... The music of Divers is a wonder of considered arrangements — a taut line, threaded with the pearls of passed and passing times...a round, a chant, an incantation...a ray of light diverted eleven ways, into eleven songs that striate, in chromatic collusion, their simultaneous arc...a span that takes in lifetimes, but is immaculately sequenced for telescoped brevity. The music speeds with dissociative dread over montaged cityscapes; it hoofs with delight among the collaged quotations and sepia-toned codices of Popular Song; it ambles its carefree citational course through the public domain and down into the dustier corners of municipal parks, to lionize infamous airmen and anonymous Dutch Masters, to mourn pearl divers and Poorwills, and to elegize the ineluctable tragedy of relativity — a tragedy of parochial time, anecdotal time, dubious time...

At the center of the mythos and the maelstrom is the woman. Divers reminds us that Newsom is a melodist, above all — an acolyte of melody and beauty in form, a crackerjack of emotional truth conveyed with undiluted immediacy. “The Things I Say” seems a naked admission, after the epic swales of war and peace that precede it, and yet this sudden moment of piano and voice falls seamlessly into the flow, buffeted by the haunting winds of a musical saw and time-slipping reversal at the finish. ...so that, at the aortic confluence of such a complexity of strings and wires, winking beneath the lacquered layers of instrumental nacre, biding quietly between the ranges of rhapsodic arrangement—including those by Nico Muhly, Ryan Francesconi, Dave Longstreth, Dan Cantrell, and Newsom herself — there lies an intimacy seldom achieved, and simply heard. Divers dives forth with a pure love and respect for the traditions and mysteries of man, such that we can feel the surge of life itself passing

over our bones as we hear the songs and sounds, the players — among them Kevin Barker, Peter Newsom, Neal Morgan, and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra — and the arrangements; as basic maths are reviewed to uncover heights of joy and sorrow, all traced in triumphal arches and supernumerary rainbows through eternal amber, gleaming in analog entrapment — with that VOICE riding high atop; the vast embodiments and boundless refinements of her singing suffused amid the tidal intake and outtake of cellulose acetate — recorded with snow-bright, high-noonverity by Steve Albini and Noah Georgeson, mixed in phantasmagoric, deep-seasaturation by Noah and Joanna, and loosed, fuckin’ FINALLY, on October 23rd by Drag City Records. We have reached Peak Newsom. Divers is coming, to incline into your many and varied lifelines, for now and then and the rest of the moments that will always return in your lifetimes again. PS: The packaging of Divers is driven by the spectacular and otherworldly images of contemporary artist Kim Keever, alongside photographs by Annabel Mehran. PPS: Intensive press, radio and television promotional campaigns are already underway in support of Divers. PPPS: The video premiere of “Sapokanikan” (directed by Paul Thomas Anderson) is only the beginning for Divers — watch for additional video events happening in time. PPPPS: Joanna Newsom will be playing shows far and wide for a long time following the release of Divers, don’t worry!

PRESENTS

Eji Oyewole Charity Begins At Home About We are proud to present another long-lost classic from the golden age of African music, from a figure who is still beginning to get his props internationally, Eji Oyewole. Born to a royal lineage in Ibadan, Prince Eji Oyewole has had a career as a flautist, saxophonist and sometime bandleader spanning well over half a century. He trained both in Nigeria and then at Trinity the prestigious music school in London, and his life as an itinerant musician also saw him living for extensive periods in Geneva, Hamburg and in Lyon. While for many years Fela Kuti (with whom Eji played) and King Sunny Adé commanded international attention to the exclusion of most other Nigerian musicians, as if there was only room for one Nigerian superstar at a time on the world stage, on the domestic scene things were very different. Eji was part of the huge craze for ‘highlife’, a generic term that in fact subsumed many different styles, united in their fusion of traditional west African forms with jazz influences and electric instruments, and in the bands’ working practices as entertainers at the nation’s numerous hotel/nightclubs. As this cracking album, recorded for EMI Nigeria at the tail end of the ‘70s and now remastered, reveals, Eji’s version of highlife was even more distinctive than most, eschewing the usual emphasis on guitars for a brasher, horn-laden sound, seemingly influenced as much by American funk as it was jazz, and of course with the heavy percussive undertow central to most African music. This gave Eji a chance to shine, and there are some scorching solos as well as tight ensemble playing across the four lengthy (to ears accustomed to the three-minute pop song) songs. Eji also played piano on the session. The material has an element of social commentary (Oil Boom and Unity In Africa) and should help feed the seemingly insatiable appetites of the many who have been turned onto African music by the enterprising efforts of devoted collectors, labels and fellow fans. Surely one of the few musicians who has played with Fela, Miles Davis and Bob Marley, Eji Oyewole still plays regularly in Lagos, recently had an album of new material out with his current band The Afrobars, and has been a member of Faaji Agba, a super-group that has toured internationally and been dubbed ‘the Nigerian Buena-Vista Social Club’.

Track listing: A1 Charity Begins At Home A2 Gele Odun (Oil Boom) B1 Lagos Complex – Lagos Highways B2 Unity in Africa (Kasowopo Kasekan)

Key Selling Points 1. One of the few musicians who has played with Fela Kuti, Miles Davis and Bob Marley, Eji Oyewole still plays regularly in Lagos. 2. Strong addition to BBE’s range of Masters we Love, lost albums from the 1970’s early 80’s… 3. Influenced as much by American funk as it was jazz, and with the heavy percussive undertow central to most African music, this is ripe for re-issue to an expanding market place for previously forgotten African Music

On October 16th, the North Carolina-bred and New Orleans-based Nikki Hill will release her new album ‘Heavy Hearts, Hard Fists’ via Deep Fryed Records. Buoyed by her band’s roaring boogie that’s equal parts Staple Singers and AC/DC, the new album sees Nikki exude a self-assured swagger as her fiery rasp preaches the rock & roll gospel: late nights, hot licks, and intoxicating love. Raised in the church choir and steeped in R&B and garage rock rumble, Nikki Hill is a spitfire with the soul-drenched voice of Etta James and the tattooed, beehived-hair aura of Cramps’ guitarist Poison Ivy. ‘Heavy Hearts, Hard Fists’ is a showcase for Nikki’s unfettered versatility, whether it’s the debauched bluster of “Struttin’”, the Stonesy barn-burning blues of “(Let Me Tell You ‘Bout) LUV”, or the touching soul ballad “Nothin’ With You”. Just a couple years ago, Nikki Hill was a bartender and personal trainer with an affinity for punk and a deep love for classic R&B. At her husband (and now guitar-player) Matt Hill’s behest, she stepped out from behind the bar and onto the stage. The response has been ecstatic, and now the band — tours the globe relentlessly, stunning audiences with their muscular sound, Matt’s volcanic leads, and, of course, Nikki’s inimitable charisma.

CHRIS WALLA Album: TAPE LOOPS Trans: 10/16/15 !

!

Chris Walla has said little publicly about his 2014 departure from Death Cab for Cutie, a band that he cofounded and called home for 17 years. He begins to break his silence with Tape Loops, a full-length album that doesn’t so much provide answers or explanations, but invites the listener into the instrumental landscapes of his inner world. ! !

Sidestepping the specificity of narrative songwriting in favor of immersive aural topographies, Chris Walla’s Tape Loops offers up a quietly dynamic listen that is as beautiful as it is masterful. Leaning into the constraints of analog loop-based recording, Walla’s virtuosity as a composer and producer shines. The album’s richly layered arrangements reveal their powerful intricacies little by little. “I can't change a closed, physical tape loop with a mouse-click or a keystroke, and that’s precisely the point,” Walla explains. “Digital recording and editing often feels like working in a spreadsheet—it's not always a place for dreams.” Chris Walla is a writer, musician and record producer. Tape Loops is his first solo album since Field Manual (2008). A founding member of Death Cab for Cutie, he was the guitarist, producer and co-writer from 1997 to 2014. INFORMATION:

Luke Vibert is back on Planet Mu with a new album called ‘Bizarster'. It's his seventh fulllength under his own name with others having been released on Mo Wax, Warp and most recently Hypercolour. Luke first came to prominence in 1994 with his debut Wagon Christ album 'Phat Lab Nightmare' on Rising High records which was quickly followed by the evergreen classic 'Throbbing Pouch' with which he cemented both his sound and reputation. He has released on Rephlex and Ninja Tune as well as major label Virgin too. 2LP A: Knockout Officer's Club Hey Go B: Ghetto Blast Ya I Can Phil It Manalog C: War Bizarster Power Press D: L Tronic Doozit Don't Fuck Around CD: 01 Knockout 02 Officer's Club 03 Hey Go 04 Ghetto Blast Ya 05 I Can Phil It 06 Manalog 07 War 08 Bizarster 09 Power Press 10 L Tronic 11 Doozit 12 Don't Fuck Around

What makes Luke's music so essential is his rare ability to blur the boundaries between genres by combining his irresistibly wonky dayglo funk with a British sensibility. Put another way, Luke's music is informed by UK dance's history. But 'Bizarster' is no empty eulogy, it’s a hall of mirrors with a happy bounce, re-tooled with skill, and always with a sense of fun. It's these things that make the hip-hop speed bleep 'n' bass of opener 'Knockout' seems completely natural, or 'Officer's Club' with it's funky disco samples, reggae vocals and joyous synths sounding like the kind of delirious idea no one else could come up with. A track like 'I Can Phil It' is a piece of sampladelic hip hop with a punning title, but that's not to say he can't play it serious. 'Manalog' for instance, which is sharp spiralling low-slung synth funk, a gloriously deep track, while something like 'L-Tronic' is top draw spaced-out electro. The title track's cut and paste space-age samples remind one of his Jean-Jacques Perrey collaboration and 'War' is the type of groovy instrumental hip-hop reminiscent of DJ Shadow at his peak. The album finishes on the fun-filled vortex of ‘Don’t Fuck Around’, a cut-up jungle masterpiece with heart in throat chords. Enjoy the ride. PLANET MU RECORDS WWW. YPPAH

‘TINY PAUSE’

Street Date: CD 10/16 LP 10/30/2015 COUNT069 / COUNTCD069 Having amassed a legion of loyal fans with his signature blend of electronic, psychedelic and rock influences, the artist known as Yppah (pronounced “yip-ah”) is back with perhaps his most intimate work to date. Tiny Pause, due for release on Counter Records October 16, finds Yppah adopting an enormous technical shift in his writing process, moving away from largely software-based production and live instrumentation to modular synthesizers and samplers. Inspired in large part by 8mm footage and self-described “creepy/beautiful” archived film found on the internet, Yppah draws on the same palette of the living landscape, human memory and emotive warmth found in his prior work and magnifies it. Tiny Pause is informed in large part by shifts in Yppah’s life since his last work. Having toured the album, moved from Texas to Southern California and transitioned into more ambitious commercial work (for trailers, sound design and music libraries), Yppah soon found himself embracing hardware in a big way, buying and selling gear constantly while writing to find the best-suited combination for his workflow. The addition of two dogs to his home and a newfound hobby of surfing round out Yppah’s biggest influencers for the direction of the new record. And it all shows - the celestial dips and rises in “Occasional Magic,” the cascade of drums in “Little Dreamer,” the fractured ascent of “Spider Hands,” and the human-tinged glitches of “Neighborhoods” all point to an artist matured not only in sound but in perspective. JONO MCCLEERY If Music presents: ’PAGODES’

Street Date: LP-10/16/2015 CD-10/2/2015 IFMRLP001 / IFMRCD001 Jono McCleery’s ever growing fanbase will be thrilled to hear that the Rotterdam-based singer songwriter has produced his definitive album. Pagodes is the deepest, most powerful work to date by a musician whose work has been described as like “Miles Davis, Massive Attack, John Martyn, Fink, and Radiohead wrapped up in one exquisitely produced sound.” Several years of hard work making Pagodes has paid off in spades. It’s an album that’s difficult to turn away from, full of beautiful melody, futuristic production flourishes and lyrics that don’t shy away from darkness, but always alight on uplifting conclusion. Opener ‘This Idea of Us’ is a smouldering torch ballad, its string arrangement lending it gripping drama. Robert Wyatt’s ‘Age of Self’ comes off as a song McCleery was born to sing, its lyrical content as relevant today as it was 30 years ago. The album moves into infectious percussive swing and melodic loops with ‘Ballade,’ a song that could have come from the LA-jazz hotbed surrounding Flying Lotus. Pagodes marries all of this thrilling diversity via McCleery’s existential musings and his startling voice and playing. It’s unlikely you’ll hear an album of such power from another singer songwriter anytime soon.

You might know Campsite as Raleigh Moncrief. change, as much as it’s an entirely new project.

It’s not a name

Campsite’s 2 Fotographic is the product of immediacy and trusting your instincts. 2 Fotographic consists of seven songs slapping across 17 minutes. No frills - just frenetic energy and the occasional air raid siren. “I always have too much stuff sitting around - hard drives full of unreleased stuff or ideas. I needed another avenue,” says Campsite. As Moncrief, he’d released a clutch of EPs and a full-length, 2011’s Watered Lawn. He’d elicited comparisons to Animal Collective, Hudson Mohawke, and the astral travelers in LA’s Brainfeeder collective. But none of the comparisons accurately fit. The music itself was too inscrutable: fusing freaky guitar pop, liminal electronic beats, and woozy R&B.

Campsite 2 Fotographic anticon.

“I just wanted to be able to make records that are fun again...I wanted to get back to the lightheartedness that I felt was slipping away on Raleigh records,” says Campsite. “I wanted to give that side of the music more room to breathe. The Raleigh records were getting too serious feeling and I wasn't enjoying making them anymore.”

“Tokaido” is the lone record that didn’t come out of that first rush of inspiration. It’s genesis traces back to a challenge that Anticon label head, Shaun Koplow made to Baths and Moncrief while they were in touring Japan in 2012. The bet was to make a song on the Shinkansen train between Tokyo and Osaka. They didn’t hear each other’s track until they got to the club that night and performed them. If you listen closely, you can hear the high velocity collisions of metal, wind, and creative drum patterns. But the entire record is a unified emotional whole—light-hearted and inducing a blood rush. The synthesizers are insistent, the vocals are distorted, and the percussion off-kilter. It’s bright and warm, but still unfamiliar enough to feel new. Campsite is what happens when you let your subconscious take control. It’s the sound of moving forward.

P. H . O . N . E . October 16, 2015 Kloke (born Andy Donnelly) returns from the shimmering depths of last year’s Sea Levels EP with a 12” of earth-splitting proportions. “P.H.O.N.E.” and “Rhythm #1” both bristle and march with the weight of warring beasts: the former a maelstrom of high tempo percussion and howling incantations, the latter a saber-toothed plunge into the heart of darkness. DJ Taye is one of Chicago Footwork crew Teklife's youngest producers, stepping up with his first full release for Hyperdub after some impressive tracks on the ‘Hyperdub 10.1’ and ‘Next Life’ compilations. The ‘Break It Down’ EP is invigorating from the word go. On the relentless stargate of 'Go Away' with DJ Paypal, smooth funk is chipmunked and chopped into a thousand digital shivers and starbursts over a tough grid of drums. 'That Love' featuring Tripletrain and DJ Manny is all romantic coos and seesawing keyboard riffs, micro-edited, stretched, chopped and spring -loaded in and out of comprehension. ‘XTCC’ in contrast is minimal and mournful, with the repeated phrase “There's a void where there should be ecstasy” over drums that cut from half to double time, over a blanket of bass with sad chords slowly coming in towards the end. 'Break It Down' flips a ferocious yet minimal vocal cut up, coiled around a bristling vortex of detailed drum edits, before a goofy melody brings it to a close.

$15.99 BOX LOT = 25

STREET DATE: 9 /4 / 2015 Maybe it was the fact he used to be part of a dance crew with his younger brother, he can't really tell, but the raw percussive nature of his music reveals Firmeza has a finely tuned understanding of body movements. That became more and more obvious since he first learned the ways of FL Studio via DJ Nervoso and his other - older - brother. That was it for DJ Firmeza, then 11 years old, born in Portugal but of Angolan descent. This EP is dedicated to his recently departed father, a light only overshadowed by God - it is not uncommon for Firmeza to shed some tears in those special moments during a performance when things seem too good to be true. Clocking in at over than 6 minutes, title-track "Alma Do Meu Pai" is a game-changer, 3x longer than the average batida track, a deep running hypnotic percussion grid showcasing all the rhythmic flow Firmeza inherited and perfect from his admiration of classic DJ Nervoso beats; "Somos Melão Doce" introduces plucked synthetic strings that sound totally alien in this context but with a precise emotive agenda. It's no chance; Opening side B, "Os PDDG" namechecks Firmeza's ground-breaking crew he shared with Liofox (co-authoring this track), Dadifox, Maboku and Lilocox (both now active as CDM). The tempo is comparatively relaxed, percussion drops are stars in their own right, lending an avant-garde edge to this most tribal dance; In "Start Go", assertive chants dance around each other, in and out of sync, securing a safe path for the heavy duty percussion workout; By the time we reach "Coelho 2025", it's more than evident we are locked in Firmeza's own intricate web of rhythm; forget notions of kuduro or afrohouse, this is really something else, a pulsating heart linked to stomping feet in a most elegant way; "Suposto" adds flute and clipped guitar as atmosphere enhancers, balancing the usual genius percussion work. Bouncy and intuitive, one for dancers who enjoy making shapes in the air with their hands. > Limited first pressing > Individually hand-painted sleeves > Debut solo EP featuring the unusually long 6-minute title track

WHITE OUT with NELS CLINE Accidental Sky “For all the praise he has received as a member of Wilco, guitarist Nels Cline never sounds more inspired — or more inquisitive — than when he’s charting his own, curiously zigzagging path.” — Washington Post “White Out claims a fertile territory somewhere between classic European-style free improv and contemporary U.S. noise.” — TimeOutNY “Wilco’s lead guitarist revels in his avant-garde roots.” — New Yorker “Surgal is one of the under-recognised greats of free drumming, and Culbertson’s daring instrumental freefalling without a parachute is without peer.” — Bruce Russell, Wire Magazine “Nels Cline is a gateway drug in the best of ways. He’s known as the guitar player for one of America’s best bands, Wilco. His crazy performances, filled with static shrieking and string bending, have led fans to the other side of music. It’s a style that interweaves jazz, progressive rock and noise.” — Bob Boilen, NPR “White Out along with Gotham lifers like Glenn Branca, Sonic Youth and Unsane head a slate of disparately drawn iconoclasts who, despite downtown’s colossal overhaul, still unequivocally bleed NYC guts and grit through their musical veins.” — Village Voice

NYC — Le Poisson Rouge — October 18th, 2015 White Out with Nels Cline + Mountains

guest collaborator while simultaneously retaining their own strong creative identity.

New York radical innovators White Out and transplanted Los Angeles legend Nels Cline share a long musical history, having played together for over a 15-year period. Anyone lucky enough to have caught these guys in live performance can attest to their special chemistry. They play a kind of improvised chamber music. Their tightly cohesive interplay the sonic consequence of years spent developing their highly personal electro-acoustic language. Any attempt to assign a label to their collective sound falls short. Reductionist classifications like Free Jazz, Prog, and Experimental, although all applicable, fail to convey the full depths of their jams. The music they make together is as eclectic as the venues they have performed in are diverse: A jazz dungeon in Paris, an artist squat in Geneva, the All Tomorrow Parties Festival in the UK, an improvisers’ compound in Marseilles, or indie rock enclaves in Los Angeles, London, and New York. Accidental Sky represents their first official release, and their first attempt at recording in a studio together. The album does not disappoint.

This album is a long time coming, and the documentation of these artists recording together is cause for celebration. With the release of Accidental Sky, the world at large can finally join White Out and Nels Cline on their eternal quest to explore the infinite possibilities of sound, rhythm, and space.

Accidental Sky runs the full gamut of artistic expression. Some of the more tempestuous tracks like the album’s epoch opener “Imperative,” the laconic “Ragged Mist of Stalled Horizons,” or the jagged “Sirius Is Missing,” range in dynamic structure from deliberate calm to unbridled fury. While other selections are more abstruse, such as the mysterious “Exaltation By Proxy” and the noirish “Under A Void Moon,” which feature haunting themes, sinuous flute lines, and otherworldly vocals. “Winter Light” stands as a kind of sparse tone poem, driven by long reverberating bell sounds. There is even a euphonious ballad in the form of the album’s closer “Soft, Nameless, Absolute.” Accidental Sky casts White Out in a different light than any of their other previous releases, which feature the likes of Thurston Moore, Jim O’Rourke, and William Winant. As with all their musical pairings, they are able to entirely transform their sound to accommodate their

PATRICK HIGGINS BACHANALIA PR by Label: Telegraph Harp Clandestine Media Release Date: 10/16/2015 File Under: Experimental, Modern Classical Cat#: TH 009; Format: embossed LP jacket, CD, Digital Packaging: LP, Digipak SLP: $17.99 $12.99 703610875272 (CD) 703610875326 (LP) People have been reinventing Bach for nearly 300 years but there has never been anything quite like Patrick Higgins’ Bachanalia. Equal parts gorgeous and severe, these highly original arrangements of JS Bach prove the endless possibilities contained within the master’s pen. Bachanalia emerges from a dynamic relationship among three main elements: Higgins’ own virtuosic classical guitar playing, stereo electronic processing, and the recording spaces themselves. Truly sitespecific, it makes unique use of the extreme and special acoustics of St. Cecilia’s Church in Brooklyn and Future-Past Studios, an upstate New York recording complex housed in a historic Lutheran church. While Bach’s compositions will be familiar to almost everyone, Higgins gives us a mesmerizing glimpse into the future. Described by The New Yorker as one of the “prime movers of the local avant-garde,” and an “exacting avant-classical guitarist” by Time Out NY, Patrick Higgins is a New York-based composer/performer of experimental music. Higgins has composed works for some of the nation’s leading ensembles, from chamber orchestra works, percussion cycles, and string quartets to smaller ensembles and soloists. He has scored music for television, museum exhibitions, and films both short-form and feature-length. Higgins plays guitar and composes in Zs, hailed by The New York Times as “one of the strongest avant-garde bands in New York.” As a producer and studio owner at Future-Past, Higgins has helped produce records for The National, Josephine Foster, John Zorn and Dither Quartet, Mantra Percussion, Zs, Eric Wubbels and Josh Modney, Ensemble Contemporaneous, Vicky Chow, and many more. For Bachanalia, Higgins and co-engineer Ben Greenberg worked with a collection of rare vintage Neumann, RCA, and Sennheiser microphones to carefully capture a spatialized natural room reverb. This provided a palate to warp, manipulate, and re-process the sound in precise counterpoint to Bach’s compositions. The end result weaves together live performance and studio composition. The musical arc reaches from light to dark, both in the emotional timbre of the compositions and in the density of the electronic elements. In the final three tracks (“Minuet,” “Chaconne,” “Aria da Capo”), both the experimentation and emotional intensity are pushed to new heights. This is highlighted in the “Chaconne,” Bach’s infamous death mass written after the passing of his first wife, presented here as a 14 minute epic recorded in two continuous takes. While any piece on Bachanalia can stand alone, the album articulates Patrick Higgins’ singular narrative vision from start to finish.

“In an arrangement by Patrick Higgins, it dramatically calls attention to Bach’s advanced sense of time and musical architecture.” - WQXR “Higgins is a formidable concert-music composer” - The Boston Globe “classical composer [...] well known as a gifted guitarist at home on the more brutal, punky fringes of the prog-rock community” - The New Yorker At South-by-Southwest: “it wouldn’t be entirely unreasonable to name Patrick Higgins the best guitarist of the 2013 event. By some combination of talent and a well-conceived rig, he makes breakneck playing look effortless.” - Premier Guitar Magazine “superb [...] meticulous high-velocity guitar patterns [...] it knocked me out” - Chicago Reader

“[Bachanalia] is almost unstoppable. Relentlessly pretty. And sounding as though it’s been Patrick Higgins’ lifetime-achievement goal to sound flawless on guitar [...]” - Tiny Mix Tapes “Hearing the musicians bring forth these harsh, fascinating sounds, you could only wonder what [Higgins’] score must look like. I imagined bars of music flecked with metal shavings and rust.” - The Brooklyn Rail “truthfully inhabits the personas of both shredder and composer. We’re talking shredder in the Yngwie/Satch paradigm [...yet] Higgins is a legit modern classical entity” - Ad Hoc “a pioneer of modern experimental music” - East Village Radio

Born in the midst of a creative surge in the pop-leaning underground, Greek act Keep Shelly In Athens have been a force in the indie world for the last half decade, releasing projects on Cascine, Gorilla vs. Bear label arm Forest Family and British heavyweight Planet Mu. Now, the Athens-based duo arrive on Los Angeles outlet Friends of Friends with the ‘Now I’m Ready’ LP, their second official LP and their most emotionally mature, sonically adventurous effort to date. At eight songs and 45 minutes, the album strikes a concise, yet imposing figure, each individual effort comprised of enough peaks and valleys to bring the listener to the edge and back again. Lifted off by lead single “Fractals”, Now I’m Ready is not your typical indie effort, un-beholden to tempo and style, the album skips across genre tropes with ease, each track guided by producer RΠЯ’s singular aesthetic and vocalist Myrtha’s unmistakable crescendos. And whether you’re locked into a long road trip, careening around a city or looking over the Mediterranean, Keep Shelly In Athens bring an arresting pathos to the proceedings, felt everywhere from the breakbeat-led madness of “Hollow Man” to the ever-building, hypnotic vocal qualities of “Now I’m Ready”. It’s only the duo’s second official LP, but considering their release history on outlets as diverse as Cascine, Forest Family and Planet Mu, it’s no surprise that their arrival on Friends of Friends is such an unabated success.

LAST FOREVER

ACRES OF DIAMONDS Acres of Diamonds is Last Forever’s fourth release - new and old songs out of the American tradition, written and arranged by Dick Connette, with vocals by Sonya Cohen. From Memphis medicine show to delta blues and obscure barrelhouse, from girl group doo wop to Duane Eddy, Burt Bacharach and beyond, it honors its sources with all the devoted attention and tortured disregard befitting any good false true-hearted lover. The orchestrations range from solo guitar to chamber consort - there’s piano, bass, and drums, strings, brass and reeds, lap steel, harmonium, and hammer dulcimer. Years ago Details described Last Forever as “Americana done right…no sanctimony, no roots rock. Just mind-bending clarity.” Well, yes, that’s the spirit.

GENRE : ROCK/POP FILE UNDER: “H” Heumann, Dave “A” Arbouretum RELEASE DATE : October 16, 2015 NO EXPORT TO EUROPE, CANADA, AUSTRALIA

EXPORTABLE TO JAPAN Dave Heumann, leader of the beloved Arbouretum, branches out with his debut solo record, Here in the Deep. While Arbouretum was on a year-long hiatus, Heumann continued writing, finding himself with a collection of material that displayed a different style of songwriting than in his past efforts. The recording of these songs gave Heumann a chance to play with a talented group of friends, including Walker Teret of Lower Dens, drummer/percussionist Mike Kuhl, Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner, and accomplished pianist Hans Chew, among others. The songs on Here in the Deep were arranged with a mind to explore textures outside of what Arbouretum typically embodies. Significantly, Here in the Deep was mixed by John Parish (PJ Harvey, Tracy Chapman, Giant Sand) whose sense for the deep, warm spaces the songs occupy allowed him to give the album a distinct clarity not found on any Arbouretum album. Here in the Deep is a lush showcase of the considerable lyrical, vocal and guitar talents of Dave Heumann and, for the listener, a rich escape. Highly informed by folk and pop traditions, the album’s ten tracks are so well crafted that they seem instantly familiar. Lyrically, the songs touch on themes at once cosmic and universal: the connection of the human spirit to its environment, and different routes to navigate within. There is a paradoxical lightness to the recording juxtaposed with a deeply resonant sense to the words. In many ways, Heumann’s venture out on his own has brought him back to what’s closest to him in life and music while at the same time blazing forth into a brave new frontier as an artist. “I went out to look for tinder, and found myself on fire,” sings Heumann— a simple metaphor for the flames of inspiration burning throughout Here in the Deep. Sometimes it takes a jump off the cliff to discover you can soar. GENRE : ELECTRONIC/POP FILE UNDER: “F” Friel, Dan “P” Parts & Labor RELEASE DATE : October 16, 2015

NO EXPORT TO EUROPE, CANADA, AUSTRALIA

EXPORTABLE TO JAPAN Dan Friel creates intense, colorful and intricate instrumentals that, for all their complexity, are melodic pop songs. Equally at home in the DIY scene and the contemporary art world, Friel has been at the forefront of a movement of musicians who create dance music with a clear affinity for the extremes of noise and metal, eschewing the traditional dance clubs and adhering to the ethics of the underground. On his sophomore Thrill Jockey album Life, Friel uses his surprisingly small arsenal of gear to distort and maneuver his beloved Yamaha Portasound into an expansive sound that is incredibly varied in tone and texture. This toy keyboard, his first instrument, is manipulated beyond recognition to create songs that are frenzied and epic. Life also has moments that are incredibly sweet, idyllic, and fragile sentiments that make perfect sense coming from a new father whose instrument of choice is his childhood keyboard. Life was written and recorded by Friel at his home studios in Brooklyn and was mixed by Jonathan Schenke (Parquet Courts, Liturgy). “Lullaby (for Wolf)” revolves around a dreamy melody Friel sang to his newborn son, and the inspiration for “Sleep Deprivation” should be well known to any new parent. “Lungs” and “Bender” share crushing bass lines that far exceed the range of most computer speakers, their punishing heaviness akin to a demolition scene from Godzilla or a bad turn in a video game. The deliciously addictive melody shared by “Life (Pt. 1)” and “Life (Pt. 2),” is carried by a noisy and churning beat that eventually swallows it entirely early in Life “(Pt. 2).” With his cover of Joanna Gruesome’s “Jamie (Luvver),” Friel betrays his punk roots in the beloved band Parts & Labor. All throughout Life, Friel exploits his intentionally simple set-up to ever surprising effect, using simple electronics to mirror the sounds of guitars, drums, and harmonicas. It is an irresistible and genrebending collection of underground anthems.

TRACK LISTING :

1. Show Us The Fire 2. Don’t Stop Until You Die 3. Doubt The Reasons 4. Blue Sands 5. Tape 6. Sun In The Eyes 7. Uptown

SALES POINTS Zelienople have been an active part of Chicago’s rich musical landscape for nearly fifteen years. Show Us The Fire finally is the band’s first album for Chicago’s Immune Recordings Show Us The Fire was mastered and cut to vinyl by Paul Gold at Salt Mastering in Brooklyn. The LP is pressed on virgin vinyl and includes a free download card Zelienople have previously released critically acclaimed and quick to sell out albums on Type, Digitalis, Root Strata, and Time-Lag Mike Weis is also a member of Kwaidan with Locrian’s André Foisy and has collaborated with Mind Over Mirrors, Steven Hess (Locrian, Cleared), Jasper TX, and Korean percussionist So Ra Kim

Zelienople exist as a unique entry in the pantheon of Chicago musicians pushing the boundaries of genre. The quartet takes basic song-structures and textural palates of folk and rock and infuses them with the spontaneous fluidity of jazz and the shimmering haze of ambient music, emphasizing subtle facets of each genre to create their own individual style. Zelienople is Matt Christensen on guitar and vocals with Mike Weis on drums, Brian Harding on bass, and Donn Ha on keyboards. Christensen and Weis have both released solo works (on Bathetic, Type, and Barge) and perform regularly with Scott Tuma as Good Stuff House. Harding has released solo works on Constellation Tatsu and Plus Tapes. Weis is also a member of Kwaidan with Locrian’s André Foisy and has collaborated with Mind Over Mirrors, Steven Hess (Locrian, Cleared), Jasper TX, and Korean percussionist So Ra Kim. These are intuitive players that are established in both the experimental and rock scenes, blazing their own quiet path somewhere in-between. Show Us The Fire is Zelienople’s first album for Chicago’s Immune Recordings and shows the band taking a more simplified approach to recording. These songs were written with live performance in mind, with each band member sticking to their primary instrument on every song. It is also the first release where Ha played an equal role in the band for every song. Zelienople, like Codeine before them, are masters of hushed anxiety, burying anger and discontent under layers of reverb and masking it with slow tempos. Many of the lyrics on Show Us The Fire focus on themes of wealth inequality and call for revolution, rooted in a call for social justice but also brimming with frustration. It is about the transcendence of hardships, not a wallowing in them. The effect is unsettling but beautiful. Show Us The Fire was recorded live in Weis’ basement with minimal overdubs. Even more than past recordings it exudes a particularly homespun, intimate feel. Zelienople will play shows around the Midwest and New York in the coming months, while individual members also pursues their other musical endeavors.

Matt Christensen has released solo work on Bathetic and plays with Weis and Scott Tuma in Good Stuff House “A bit of shoegazing, a lot of slowcore, a psychedelic sensibility, but also a strong folk song feel all inform Zelienople’s music” - All Music “Gorgeous widescreen Americana and dream pop...massively recommended to followers of Talk Talk, Bark Psychosis and Slowdive” - Boomkat

Naytronix is the alter ego of multi instrumentalist Nate Brenner who spent much of the past four years touring the world as bassist for the mighty tUnE-yArDs. Consider Naytronix’s second full-length, ’Mister Divine’ (2015, City Slang), his treatise on the subject, which sees him turning from the disjointedly funky party dance anthems of his debut Dirty Glow (2012, Plug Research) to a surrealist stream of consciousness poignancy. Conceived in tour busses, hotel suites, and basement studios initially as fodder for DJ sets, Mister Divine is the feeling of déjà vu between delirious post-show fevers and the road-torn sleep through the night on the way to the next city, driving the circumference of the Earth in nine weeks, dreams of Pangaea, of forever ago and infinity from now. Imagine: impossibly, and without the recollection of flying, you’re in Europe maniacally driving through the pre-dawn to catch the first ferry to Belgium, to Spain, to Sweden. There is Dur Dur on the stereo, William Onyeabor, Khaira Arby, and Dizzy K, compilations and mixtapes of unknown origin and content. This too is a dream, and tomorrow you’re starting over, another opportunity to bask in the irrelevance of the present moment, “all we have,” while keeping one eye on the future and one on the past. Brenner has digested a lot in the three years since introducing this world to Naytronix. tUnE-yArDs has turned into something of a perpetual motion machine, taking him to far corners of the Earth, as well as Carnegie Hall and the TV sets of Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien, Jools Holland, and Austin City Limits. He did some recording and performing with music royalty Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon, got to collaborate and learn from Cibo Matto’s Yuka Honda, and even found some time to take the Naytronix band around the US and across the Atlantic, from London to Istanbul. His music as Naytronix keeps its characteristic reflection of the ‘70s of Onyeabor and Bootsy Collins, there is too a new face of the sincerity and vulnerability of the ‘70s of Arthur Russell he shows here amid the psychedelia, as if wishing to land the Naytronix Mothership down to stay with us for a bit.

Tom Carter

Long Time Underground TLR-105

Format: 2xLP w/ download List Price: $25.99 LP is non-returnable Release Date : October 16, 2015

A man in a crisis, Faulkner once wrote, always falls back upon what he knows best. Three summers ago, Brooklyn-via-Houston guitarist Tom Carter was in crisis. On tour in Europe with his pioneering psych-folk unit Charalambides, Carter was stricken with pneumonia, complications from which impelled doctors in Berlin to place him in a medically induced coma. Family members, bandmates and lovers of otherworldly music everywhere watched and waited during the six weeks Tom spent in the intensive care unit and the additional month in a rehabilitation facility. Sighs of relief were exhaled throughout the worldwide warrens of underground music when Tom finally returned to New York in August 2012, convalescent. (The incredible 99-track compilation Deserted Village released the following year to help defray Carter’s medical expenses plays like an almanac of global head music.) The steady stream of outstanding recorded music Tom Carter has released over the last two years, both solo and collaborative, suggests a man more than returned to form— falling back on what he knows best, but somehow better. Tom Carter’s new solo album, Long Time Underground, is nothing short of stunning. While Carter shrugs off suggestions that Long Time Underground represents some sort of sea change in his approach to making music, this (along with its companion post-illness release, Numinal Entry, on Halatern) comprises his first solo work this decade. Long Time Underground, moreover, is the first solo studio recording Carter has ever done. Long Time Underground is almost unsettling in its purity. A collection of fractal guitar études, the album is comprised mostly of composed material— some of which was written in the studio, some worked out in performance over the past few years. Each song was set down live without overdubs, and the result is an almost confessional intimacy. The sprawling side-long opener ‘August is All’ begins in a kind of languorous humidity, Carter’s bell-like guitar chiming against a scrim of cicada song and building to a storm of jagged heat lightning before subsiding again. Carter’s guitar is painting landscapes here, conjuring a panorama in such vivid colors and textures that one is happy to idle there for a time. ‘Entreaertne’ is an electric prayer, set against the harmonium-like breathing Carter somehow elicits from his guitar. The bluesy, cascading dirge of ‘Carvedilol Cowboy’ has just enough swagger to almost count as rock and roll. The luminous ‘Prussian Book of the Dead’ slowly transmutes a hopeful, hymnlike progression into bright, buzzing angelic noise. (The song’s title, with its intimations of mortality in Berlin, promises something radiant, if not quite human, awaiting us all on the other side.) The album closes with an older song, ‘Colors for N,’ an earlier version of which appeared on Carter’s 2007 Whispers to Infinity CD-R, a barbed wire song of devotion. No one even passingly familiar with Tom Carter’s past work will be terribly surprised by the breathtaking musical talent displayed on Long Time Underground. Although even long time fans may be startled by the sheer completeness of the worlds Carter manages to summon with a single guitar recorded in real time. The shock, I think, is the emotional clarity of the work. The album eschews the searching, exploratory (sometimes aimless) quality typical of latter-day psychedelia because it always seems so assured of precisely where it is headed. This may, of course, be attributable to the predominance of composed over improvised material on Long Time Underground. But it may also be the emotional groundedness of a man long detained from friends and loved ones and so possessed of immensely richer sense of home. As aesthetically and emotionally complete a musical experience as you are likely to have all year, Long Time Underground is simply the work of man, mortal but still illuminated.

DEAD TO A DYING WORLD - LITANY CD/2LP Dead To A Dying World return with their long-awaited sophomore effort, a defining opus entitled Litany. This follow-up to their 2011 self-titled debut is an endeavor that emboldens the Dallas, TX septet’s tremendous creative spirit. Litany is increasingly ambitious with each of its six triumphant musical movements, demanding hope and despair in its deliberate parade of the sours of humanity. This musical ensemble has crafted an aural landscape that thrives somewhere between apocalyptic doom, blackened crust, and dark post-rock. Their compositional skill is wonderful to behold as their works flow seamlessly from solemn string arrangement into tremendous dooming resolution.

Throughout the sixty-minute run time of the album, False dive deeper into the realm of visceral and relentless black metal for which they’ve become well-known. Their live sound and ferocity is finally captured here, revealing a whole new depth and darkness that has only been hinted at on previous recordings. This album is far from a simple exercise in listening, and more akin to a journey to be experienced. The works contained therein are incredibly bleak and emotionally powerful, with a long lasting impact. This Untitled album was recorded live, mixed, and mastered by Adam Tucker at Signaturetone Recording, with artwork by Nicole Sara Simpkins. KOWLOON WALLED CITY - GRIEVANCES LP KOWLOON WALLED CITY finally bring us their long-awaited new full-length. Grievances, their third album and first for Gilead Media & Neurot Recordings, finds the San Francisco band at its artistic peak, having moved even further away from its sludgy, post-hardcore origins and toward a sparser, noise-rock heaviness. This shift began with 2012’s Container Ships, which received universal praise from both listeners and writers. On Grievances, the band takes these elements to even greater extremes. The strings rattle. The guitars crackle and blister. The notes ring out turning bleak and beautiful — sometimes both at once. “We dug into this expansive, less distorted vibe. The songs are mostly slow and bummed out but we still want them to push, to have energy,” says vocalist/guitarist Scott Evans.

Evans, together with guitarist Jon Howell, bassist Ian Miller, and drummer Jeff Fagundes spent over two years working on the seven songs for Grievances. The intense editing process weeded out about two albums’ worth of material. Howell’s unusual and discordant chord changes channel the familiar feel of angular indie rock. Miller’s gritty bass adds a surprising layer of depth and melody, while Fagundes’ drums resonate in what sounds like an impossibly large room. Evans’ shouted vocals are raw with frustration and disappointment, but without the typical veneer of aggression. The concept of work forms the thematic foundation of the entire record, from the cover art to the title and the lyrics. Whereas previous KOWLOON WALLED CITY releases were largely inspired by the band’s hometown of San Francisco, Grievances focuses its attention on our complex relationships with work and the power our employment — and employers — have over us. As with KOWLOON WALLED CITY‘s previous releases, Evans engineered and mixed the album, starting at Sharkbite Studios and finishing at his own Antisleep Audio, both in Oakland. Griveances was mastered by Carl Saff. The LP edition released by Gilead Media will be presented in a gatefold jacket printed on reverse stock and will include a download code. The initial pressing is limited to 1000 copies.

Like these Southern sweethearts, we admittedly might not have been the coolest kids in high school—but at least we can pretend like we were while listening to some 90’s inspired rock and roll.” NYLON NME claimed their debut single ‘Virgin’ “mimics the angst-ridden grunge of Nirvana, while flecks of Pavement ensure a distinctly nostalgic flavor to these guitar heroes”, and Clash Magazine stated was “set in high school, with its corrosive mixture of The Cure and Mudhoney conjuring up all manner of adolescent fury.” RIYL: Weezer, The Cure, The Orwells, Pavement OFR – 075 Street Date: 10/16/15 Format: LP LP SRP: $18.99 LP UPC: 634457690110 Box Lot: 10 Vinyl Not Returnable Genre: Indie, Alternative Hometown: Charleston, SC LP:

500 only gatefold deluxe 180g LP, transparent white and purple vinyl + DL. ‘Terminal’ follows hot on the heels of Limb’s self-titled debut of 2014 and cranks up the sonics, mashes the grooves, and ups the filth quotient. With legendary extreme metal producer Russ Russell on board (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir, Evile…) they’ve created a monolithic statement of intent. 'Terminal' is a down-tuned and dirty barrage of monumental riffs. The guitars are all rolling fuzz. The bass is low, warm and weighty. The drums pound, and vocalist Rob Hoey’s roar resounds through it all. This album is guaranteed to blow your ears, speakers, and minds. Recognising Limb’s love of both stoner dirge and glam stomp, Russ Russell has described the band’s sound as ‘GoatSlade’, and we can see why. Buried in the dirt is a cosmic boogie, which pays more than a nod to the decade of stacked platform boots without ever feeling retro. 01 Three Snake Leaves 02 Ghost Dance 03 Micromegas 04 Dawn Raiders 05 Spoils of a Portrait King 06 Down By the Banks 07 Sleepwalkers 08 Mortuary Teeth 09 Cocytus
