How did you personally get started in the music industry? My very first job in the music industry was doing Indie Retail Marketing at Interscope Records. I worked with indie record stores and coalitions on different marketing initiatives. I learned a lot and met so many great people in the indie retail community during that time, most of which are still thriving today. When and where did the label begin? Sargent House was initially founded as a management company in 2006 by my partner Cathy Pellow, eventually becoming a label out of necessity to help the band Rx Bandits get out of a bad deal and release their album …And The Battle Begun. I came over a short time after to help build the label side of the company. Is there a genre that you would consider to be the label’s “signature style,” or is it a mix? I don’t think there’s a specific genre, we work with artists on music we love. A lot of it is forward thinking or left of center, but that’s just what we’re drawn to and find most compelling. What is the meaning behind the name for the label? Sargent House was named after a historic home in Echo Park that Cathy owned. It was an amazing four story house that doubled as our office and a place where artists would stay. How has the label changed since it started? We’ve obviously expanded our roster and grown as a company, but our philosophy has remained the same; we only work with music we’re passionate about from artists we believe in and strive to help them make a living doing what they love. How would you describe the average fan of the label? Passionate and engaged. We’re so lucky to work with artists that create powerful and intricate records, and I think it encourages fans to experience the entire album more often than engaging with individual singles.The music often demands an actively listening experience vs something to passively have on in the background. I also believe that’s why we’ve consistently seen fans choose vinyl over any other format. Where do you go to search for new music? Who or what has been a new find (on the label or otherwise) you’d like to rave about? We look everywhere, but recommendations are usually the best, especially when they come from our artists. The latest signing to Sargent House is Hammok, an incredible new band out of Norway. The album they’ve just completed is phenomenal, extremely excited for everyone to hear it in 2026.

We know you can’t choose, but what’s been your favorite label release, and why? Choosing just one is tough because I truly love all of our releases, but I’ll pick Russian Circles Memorial. It was our second official release with them and marked a huge step for the band, both sonically and gaining more fans. It also capped off an incredible year for the label. The guys in Russian Circles are awesome people and total pros; they’ve helped pave the way for so many bands and are a prime example of how to continuously build your fanbase with each release. What’s the wildest marketing promotion you’ve ever worked on for any release? The Armed ULTRAPOP was a blast! It was originally scheduled for release in 2020 but moved it to 2021 because of the pandemic so we had a bit more time to cultivate ideas. Everything was based on the fan experience and interaction; Between the ARG game the band created, the fan funded billboards that ran in major cities, incredible press coverage and the full concert film we produced at the Masonic Temple in Detroit, the hype for that album continued to build and ultimately delivered. It was a lot of fun to work on and felt rewarding to see it be successful. It was released in April 2021, right when people were starting to get vaccinated, so there was a really positive and optimistic vibe around everything, which probably contributed to how engaging it all felt. The Armed’s new album The Future is Here and Everything Needs To Be Destroyed has a more cynical take on the state of our collective experience right now, but arguably even more cathartic. What in your opinion has been the biggest change in the music industry from when you first started compared to now? The digital marketplace is obviously the most significant transformation. When I began, legal downloads were considered an insignificant part of the overall business. Everyone in the industry, including stores, were concerned with the increased adoption of piracy. What’s more remarkable is the resilience and adaptability of independent record stores. They’ve continued to innovate and flourish regardless of whatever new formats or options pop up, and will continue to thrive while large corporations use music as a loss leader to sell other shit. It’s the sense of community built around these stores that makes them irreplaceable, and we’re so incredibly thankful for the support they’ve shown us and the artists we work with over the past 20 years! They say our sun will explode in about 5 billion years or sohow would you like the label to be remembered? Who really thinks this planet will be around in 50 years, let alone 5 billion? I’m hopeful that we’ll get through the next few years without the world exploding, but I truly believe so many of the artists we’ve worked with have created albums that will stand the test of (remaining) time.

Starting in the mid-90s, the U.S. Maple saga was rent open, seam by seam, over ten long, sweaty years, like a ripple of mirages exploding up around the bend. Theirs was a dues-paid elevation of good old rock ‘n roll values that reached dizzyingly high, past the blunt force of their immediate 80s90s forebears and the magisterial arc of the venerated classic rockers before them. Their music is a rapacious, constantly morphing ooze through which can be sighted gristled flecks and shards of glam, punk, blues, metal, funk, jazz and other denuded musical formations to be grabbed upon and squeezed til the juice runs down your leg. Talker, their Drag City debut, came on in the summer of 1999, its discrete shades of soundscape yawning like an open fly, dangling like shirttails through silence into previously unimagined spaces of width and depth. Having Swans’ Michael Gira on to produce was big, but bigger still was the group’s vigilant sense of what they were up to — at that exact moment, a sequence of ‘back to school’ reflections with singer Al Johnson as your skeezy JD/Virgilian guide. Their tactile cloak of intimacies/detritus/little jokes/lucid dreams/vast emptiness was the perfect cover for a deceptive populism. Released in April 2001, Acre Thrills is the most danceable, sensual and subcutaneous of all their offerings, “Ma Digital” their most kicking song EVER. It ain’t alone — captured by Brian Paulson, the workings of the trio within the quartet were greased to absolute slickness, with Todd Rittmann/Mark Shippy’s guitars and Pat Samson’s drums collectively divining and conquering the songs’ rhythm and harmony, while also playing in what appeared to be their own private imaginations. With his signature succession of consumptive wheezes and acid-tongued utterances, Al Johnson — for some, the most unlikely front man of the rock ‘n roll era (and to others, their own private Jim Morrison) — drew it all together immaculately. Their final LP, recorded with Jeremy Lemos, Purple On Time dropped in late 2003, and found new drummer Adam Vida cannily replacing the fairly departed Pat Samson. With consolidations and developments heavy on the ground, the band once more surged and retarded in near-orchestral precision, as Johnson's voice swooped through fresh ranges. The songs were tangy, more rock than ever, yet just as potent when it came to drawing forth that thrusting, demented hip-shake that they induced in their faithful.

OVERVIEW Originally released in 1993, Surfing On Sine Waves is the second album released under the Warp Artificial Intelligence series (the series also includes the two titular compilations, as well as contributions by Autechre, The Black Dog, F.U.S.E. and more). Surfing On Sine Waves is also the sole album released under Richard D. James’ (aka Aphex Twin’s) Polygon Window alias. The name “Polygon Window ” originally appeared as a track name under Richard D. James’ other pseudonym The Dice Man, as the track title for his submission on Artificial Intelligence. Surfing On Sine Waves was chosen as a title by Rob Mitchell based on a quote by Richard D. James. The album debuted at #2 on the UK dance charts. The album was followed the same year with a companion EP titled Quoth. The EP’s title track originally appeared on the album, accompanied by additional songs who first appeared on this release. Mulatu Astatke Mulatu Plays Mulatu Strut presents Mulatu Plays Mulatu, the first major studio album in over 10 years from the father of Ethio-jazz, Mulatu Astatke. Featuring masterful new arrangements of some of his classic compositions, Mulatu Plays Mulatu finds Mulatu revisiting the sounds that helped to change the face of Ethiopian music during the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. The album was recorded between London and Addis Ababa, working with his long-standing UK band, a tight, intuitive ensemble honed through years of live performance, alongside cultural musicians resident at his Jazz Village club in Addis. Mulatu Plays Mulatu realises Mulatu’s long-term vision of Ethio-jazz, intricately balancing Western jazz arrangements with the rich sounds of traditional Ethiopian instruments including the krar, masenqo, washint, kebero and begena. Throughout the album, he reshapes familiar material with rich textures, expanded improvisations and a deepened rhythmic complexity, creating a body of work that feels as vital and contemporary as it does steeped in tradition. Familiar compositions like ‘Yekermo Sew’, ‘Netsanet’ and the celebratory ‘Kulun’ are reinvented here as elegant big band performances.

Caamp formed when Taylor Meier and Evan Westfall met and bonded over a shared love of music and a shared love of home, specifically the inspiration they culled from the Midwest lives they grew up in. The two began writing and performing and quickly grew a rabid fan base. A self-titled 2016 debut album took flight, Evan and Taylor brought on a third member and longtime friend, Matt Vinson, to join on bass just before recording By and By. In week one of the release of their full length, By and By on Mom + Pop, Caamp made multiple chart debuts. By and By entered the Billboard Top 200, was the #1 Heatseeker, #1 on the New Artist Alternative Albums, top 5 vinyl album sales for the week and entered the Alternative and Emerging Artist charts. Caamp then scored their first #1 at radio with their single “Peach Fuzz,” made their late night television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and followed that up with a killer performance on CBS This Morning Saturday. Two Seminal albums from cult Ghanaian musician Alhaji K. Frimpong and his group the Cubano Fiestas, recorded in 1976 and 1977 respectively and considered to be some of the best highlife albums ever recorded, at the pinnacle of West African musical tradition and innovation. Both originally self titled, they have become known by the colour of the covers - Blue and Black respectively. The Blue Album brings new arrangements to traditional Ghanaian melodies and features the masterpiece Kyenkyen Bi Adi M’awu (come back my love) - universally known in Ghana, covered and sampled by artists such as Chronnix, Gnarls Barkley and many more. The Black Album expands the electronic elements and features the equally visionary Hwehwe Mu Na Yi Wo Mpena, although the real gem is hiding on the B side: the extended groove of “Adam Nana”. Sinuously evolving guitar lines, clavinet vamps, harmonised vocal snatches and otherworldly percussion expand and contract over a full quarter of an hour - a Ghanaian repost to the Afro Jazz experiments going on at the same time on the other side of the Atlantic. Although popular in Ghana at the time of the release, the albums were never distributed internationally and original copies of the album are extremely rare. The albums got a limited reissue in 2011 and have been unavailable since - even reissue copies sell for high prices on the second hand market.

GLASS BEAMS MAHAL EP Releasing Sept 26, 2025 Glass Beams are releasing a highly limited edition cassette format of their breakthrough 2024 EP Mahal. Originally sold on tour as a merch item, the initial run sold out quickly and an additional run is now being made available for indie retailers. The flip side to the cassette is the first release of audio from the bands much loved live performance session of the EP, which has clocked up over 8.5M views on YouTube! Originally pressed last year limited edition orange vinyl, this format quickly sold out ahead of release date globally and has since been available on unlimited black vinyl. The demand for covetable physical formats from Glass Beams has been bolstered by their incredible live presence - since releasing the EP in May the band has returned to North America 4 times to sell out their debut shows at NYC’s Knockdown Center (3k) and LA’s Walter (2.3k) as well as shows in 24 states (+4 Canadian provinces), appear at festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, III Points, Austin City Limits and Portola. Glass Beams are currently special guests on Rufus Du Sol’s massive US stadium run, and in 2025 have also toured with St. Vincent and Leon Bridges.

The genesis of Glass Beams, which formed around founding member Rajan Silva, stemmed from the rekindling of childhood memories related to his father, who emigrated to Melbourne from India in the late 1970s. Silva, in particular, was drawn to the fusion of Western musical styles and traditional Indian music showcased in his father's music collection. Live One is the legendary recording of COIL's much anticipated performance in April of 2000 at London's Royal Festival Hall (as part of Julian Cope's “Cornucopea“ mini festival). Whilst there had been abortive attempts at live shows in the early 1980s, this concert is universally considered the veritable COIL live debut. With a line-up of John Balance, Peter “Sleazy“ Christopherson, Thighpaulsandra and Ossian Brown, COIL took the RFH stage decked out in their custom designed fluffy polar Teletubby suits to perform a supremely hypnotic set, somewhat reminiscent of their seminal Time Machines release but adding variation and tension largely absent from that drone masterpiece. Balance's vocal delivery on “Queens of the Circulating Library“ is still a very controlled but effective affair and quite different from his later manic outbursts. The show itself as well as the long-out of print and now much sought after 2003 CD release were extremely well received and became the cornerstone of a quick succession of COIL tours in the intervening four short years until Balance's untimely death. This first ever double vinyl version of this fantastic historic document of the COIL experience has been fully overseen by surviving member Thighpaulsandra and is available now on the Retractor label, presented in a lavish gatefold sleeve and pressed on 180g vinyl. Much of the music of Open Close was composed for live performance as Prekop prepared for a series of shows both solo and in collaboration with Laraaji. Prekop had been developing new approaches since the release of Comma in 2020 and his collaborative album Sons Of with John McEntire, incorporating their more rhythm-forward constructions and diverging in new invigorating directions. “In my mind that’s what the modular is really good at doing, adding interesting and less predictable textural elements,” notes Prekop. “That’s only one part of the dialog though. It energizes the other sounds and voices. Along with the steady rhythmic pulses I’ve been gravitating towards, the juxtaposition of those elements becomes a form of architecture within abstraction, just by imposing them on each other and layering them in a precise way.”

Sam Prekop is a highly regarded multi-disciplinary artist. Since 2010 Prekop has released a series of highly acclaimed analog synthesizer albums, both solo and collaborative with John McEntire (Tortoise).

The music of Open Close brims with an exhilarating array of textural combinations and melodic turns. Longform pieces like title track “Open Close” and centerpiece “Light Shadow” build entire metropolises, dense with elements that dot the stereo field with vibrant, glimmering lights. The sound world of Open Close is Prekop’s richest, most lush compositions yet they still sound more spacious and expansive, than ever before. Acting as a near-facsimile to creating space for improvisers, the pieces leave air for singular voices to propel the pieces forward with melodic motion, often surrounded by gorgeous, swirling ornaments comping around them.

Jack Hardy was a songwriter’s songwriter, the most influen al definer of the Fast Folk era in New York City. A hugely important figure that wrote an impressive number of outstanding songs. Lucinda Williams, who knows whereof she speaks when it comes to great songs, expressed all her love for Hardy when she said “Jack wrote some of the most beau ful songs I’ve ever heard.” And who can doubt Lucinda! “Southern Comfort” was recorded in Cosenza – deep South of Italy, in 1988 – a place that Jack would call “a slice of Paradise”, hence the tle. Superb accompaniment by Todd Scheaffer on guitar and Brady Rymer on bass (both on backing vocals too) plus Jack himself in a state of grace, make this performance one of the absolute best of his 40 years of touring. Such is the energy, the convic on and the almost trascendental ar s c gesture. One of the closest friends of Jack Hardy has labelled this performance as a compulsory listen. So be it!

Waving his axe of choice, Sir Richard Bishop once again summons forth damnable truth and beauty on an all-new musical kamikaze run through histories both written and — as of yet — not commonly known. Since the dying days of the 20th century, the composer/ player of spirited polytheistic guitar recitals including Salvador Kali, Improvika, The Freak of Araby, Tangier Sessions, and most recently, Oneiric Formulary has worked feverishly to wrench and wrangle all the music that has and can possibly fall out of the guitar from east to west across this great, totally fucked world of ours. With Hillbilly Ragas, Sir Rick stretches his callused hands across the waters to draw diverse musics back to his shack with the gladiatorial bloodthirst and balance of gravitas and jocosity we expect from him in every hot little moment of play. But there’s more to be said than these merely glib rantings as to what happens when traditional music heads for the hillbillies. We asked the man himself to chime in. Open the door, Richard! “There were a few different approaches I utilized for this release. First and foremost, I wanted to go back to basics, to strip away any excesses and keep it as simple as possible: one man, one acoustic guitar, no overdubs, no effects, no electricity. Taking several cues from the sounds most often associated with the so-called American Primitive guitar style, I wanted to avoid any traditional approaches and instead try something more raw and aggressive, concentrating more on rhythm and movement as opposed to anything predictable or overly melodic, while also keeping my particular interpretive ideas about East Indian Raga in the mix. I've always felt that the majority of what is considered to be American Primitive music, while certainly based on historical American musical traditions, never really had any sounds that I personally thought of as being primitive—it always seemed too orderly, too developed, and too safe. Way too safe. I found that playing with a sort of reckless abandon was the best way to remain outside of the usual musical language found in this genre of music, while still being able to establish itself within its framework, through determination and force if nothing else. It's a much more savage approach, which I believe is how it should have been all along, in order to at least give proper credence to the semantics of the form. During the recording process I was envisioning an undiscovered mountain man or "hillbilly" who had remained hidden in his own private backwoods; one who never learned, or even heard about, any traditional musical canon that he was expected to work within. So what we have here with Hillbilly Ragas are nine pieces for solo acoustic guitar, each one representing a different excursion into the dark woods— the untamed explorations of a musical loner, an outsider, maybe even an undesirable, embodying a peculiar folklore and turning it into sound— creating his own folk music in the process. Now, who remembers where they were in January 2015? Bill and Ryley don’t need to, they’ve got Land of Plenty to remind ‘em. That’s when they made the record, but a scant year before, can you believe it — they barely knew each other! Once they met, though, they hit it off over mutual influences, like Albert King, Laura Nyro, Nick Drake, Bert Jansch, Ali Akbar Khan and Jimi Hendrix. Most of those folks are guitarists, just like Bill and Ryley. But Laura Nyro played piano and Ali Akbar Khan, sarod. Now maybe in your duo, one picker radiates that kind of diversity — but both? This was the first clue as to how heavy it might be if these two lads pooled their talents. They got to work. And play. A year later, they were loaded into The Whistler every single Friday night on the calendar in January 2015. A residency, so called, but these resident players had designed not simply to entertain each night, but also to record the pool of material they’d woodshedded together in the recent months. Yeah! Bill and Ryley dared to dream, man. A record, of all new originals, recorded live. Then when they went back to review the tapes, they were reliving the dream! They’d achieved that finest of things, rendering their all-new material in ultimate form, live and in person. Listening today, we’d hardly believe it, if it weren’t something we’d just typed above! While the two of them are generally divided up by speakers, which is a groovy old-school way to have stereo sound that we LOVE, their shared headspace is a constant flow of ever-melding play, ranging across all sorts of genres and geographies from east to west and folding them immaculately into each other, whether in moments of transition or extended meditation. Listening out for each other as they’re picking, these boys dance together and never land a foot wrong. They are ON. Whether head to head with six-strings or with Bill picking up his Requinto, or Ryley picking up his 12-string, these performances sound RICH. The live capture seems to enhance the sound in all sorts of unpredictable ways that activates with the chemistry in their playing, and ultimately serves to elevate Land of Plenty in its field! There’s very few acoustic guitar records that hit quite like this. It was in August of 2015 that Land of Plenty was released, on Whistler Records. Ten damn years ago. Damn it! Time goes by and things change… it’s just crazy. But if crazy means we get to push out our own copy of this gorgeous Bill MacKay & Ryley Walker duo recital, then call us crazy. Please. FRED ARMISEN Actor/comedian/musician/producer/ author/all-round good guy Fred Armisen has long been known as one of the most curious entertainers in the business, creating a wild variety of things for television, film, stage, records and other media. The latest proof of his inquiring imagination is here: 100 Sound Effects! The goal was to create a number of specific and evocative sounds, but in addition to being a fun listen — pure and simple  — 100 Sound Effects has great value as an industrial tool, with sound effects ready to be used in any number of entertainment projects. Some follow the basic blueprint, like doors shutting and glass breaking. Others are more abstract scenarios, but with a track like “Campfire Breakfast Conversation,” Fred notes, “They could be used in a movie or a show as a distant sound. Like: 'Listen, I think I hear campers down that way!' Those can also be played on outdoor speakers, if you want to make your backyard sound like a popular camping area.” The majority of the album was done at recording studios, but occasionally ambient sounds were needed. Rather than rely on OTHER sound effects records, Fred went outside and got these himself on a portable digital recorder, pointing it at the sky or a car or whatever was needed. Other sounds required something extra as well — as he recalls, “Glass breaking seemed like an easy part of the album, but I forgot that I’d actually have to break and clean up glass. There’s this place in Van Nuys where you pay to go in and smash glass. It’s all very safe, and you have to wear goggles and a jumpsuit. What a great idea for a business. I want to go back and curate a smash room.” Additionally Fred wanted to recreate other specific moments not always covered on sound effects records, like “Music Venue Employee Kicking Everyone Out While Throwing Away Bottles” (actually, an incredibly common scene for a great many of us), while also executing versions of his personal favorite sound effects, which resulted in tracks like “Small Theater Booing.” With additional help and inspiration from Bill Hader, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Amber Coffman, Tim Heidecker, Riki Lindhome and Alice Carbone Tench, Fred had a lot of fun making the album. And now, Fred Armisen’s 100 Sound Effects is a sound effects album like no other, a fantastic contemporary entry in a classic album category that can be used as a library or just for brain-stimulating deep listening. Lastly, a personal note from Fred about the making of 100 Sound Effects: “I was thinking about haunted house sound effects albums and how fun those seemed to record. I wanted to do it at Steve Albini’s studio in Chicago, Electrical Audio, but since this wasn’t a collection of songs and I didn’t know how long it was going to take, I needed to do this where I live, in Los Angeles. I told Steve what I was doing and asked if he knew of any engineers I could work with in L.A. He was very excited about the idea and asked Dave Grohl who might be available to help. Dave recommended Darrell Thorp and we started working at Studio 606, and then later Sunset Sound. Darrell was really inventive and a lot of fun to work with. Because Steve was so instrumental in making this happen, I dedicate the album to his memory. I miss him every day.”

Portland based producer / synthesist Daryl Groetsch composes music under the moniker Pulse Emitter. Channeling his love and mastery of styles ranging from new age to Berlin school kosmische to drone to progressive electronic music to noise akin to junk floating through deep space, Groetsch crafts emotionally resonant synth pieces teeming with diverse melodic architectures and textural details. A mainstay of the American experimental underground for over two decades, he has released dozens of albums of his exploratory and ever-evolving output as Pulse Emitter which have appeared on labels including Aguirre Records, Constellation Tatsu, and NNA tapes, while self-releasing music under his given name and as his dungeon synth side project Endless Fog. Tide Pools, Groetsch’s new LP on Hausu Mountain, follows the relatively more languid ambient strains of his work found on Swirlings (2020) and Dusk (2022) with a dizzying excursion into kinetic rhythms and fastmorphing song structures. Groetsch himself describes the album as an attempt “to explore the deep emotions possible from jazz harmony, manifest the rhythmic complexity always chattering around in my head, and push my music somewhere I haven’t.”

Pulse Emitter’s goal to actively complicate the mood of Tide Pools beyond a single overarching atmosphere results in some of his most dynamic and emotive work to date, as we follow the album’s winding narrative through its diverse chapters and shifts in energy. Enchanting Japanese vocal artist Hatis Noit has announced Aura Reworks to be released 26th September. The new release reimagines her 2022 debut album, Aura, by legendary artists and collaborators, including the godfather of ambience Laraaji, hip hop duo Armand Hammer, composers and electronic experimentalists Jlin, Alex Somers, William Basinski, Emel, Matthew Herbert and Yu Su. Aura Reworks opens with a transcendental reinterpretation of the title track “Aura” by laughter meditation practitioner, mystic, and “ambient godfather” Laraaji. Hatis’ haunting vocals whir and groan in conversation with Laraaji’s bouncing hums, over open-tuned zither, kalimba, and timbrels. The soft organic percussion is replaced by thumping, shamanic kick drum on “Thor”, reworked by DJ and producer Matthew Herbert. The track is a playful, primal devotion, evoking a bonfire-lit ritual in the centre of a dancefloor. Matthew Herbert describes the track as an “auditory hallucination where more modern techniques merged with ancient-sounding voices.”. Preservation’s rework of “Jomon” combines Hatis Noit’s powerful cries that evoke Japan’s prehistoric Jomon period with slow, considered vocals by cult New York rap duo Armand Hammer over a minimalist drum loop. The result is a bold call to arms, bridging thousands of years. Alex Somers’ haunting reimagination of “Angelus Novus” splinters Hatis’ heavy vocals, transforming them into glitchy ASMR-effect blips that bounce in intensity before a brutal, heartbreaking passage, forcing the listener to stop and breathe. As Somers’ track fades, Hatis’ long, soft hums continue into the most contemplative track, “Inori”, reworked by avant-garde composer William Basinski, introduces a delicate piano to the track. “Inori” features a field recording of the ocean only one kilometre away from the nuclear power plant in Fukushima, destroyed by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Hatis Noit had been invited there for a memorial ceremony which marked the re-opening of the area for local people to return to their homes. The emotive and compassionate song is dedicated to the lives lost due to 2011’s tsunami, but equally to the memories people have of their hometown. Aura Reworks closes with “Sir Etok” a haunting track reworked by Emel, whose own voice enters into dialogue with Hatis’, mixing Arabic with her wordless sounds to create new dimensions. Hatis Noit is a Japanese vocal performer hailing from distant Shiretoko, Hokkaido, who now resides in London. The name Hatis Noit is taken from Japanese folklore, meaning the stem of the lotus flower, as the flower represents the living, while its root represents the afterlife. Therefore, Hatis Noit connects the two worlds, able to move between here and the other side; the past, memory, and subconscious.

Saxophonist, autist and producer Chip Wickham casts a formidable shadow across the worldwide jazz landscape. With well over a billion streams and a million records sold in the US alone, Phantogram is one of the most beloved artists of recent years. OVERVIEW As KT puts it, there’s never been a moment when she didn’t have rage. As the singer of Upchuck, the Georgia punk band whose music is as sharp as a scythe, KT has felt fierce energy inside her well before she had the band as an outlet through which to channel it. Upchuck’s Domino debut is I’m Nice Now recorded at Sonic Ranch Studio in Texas with producer Ty Segall. But don’t mistake newfound niceness for weakness. It’s self-preservation. “In this world of constant distractions and stressors it’s important to keep your mind, body, and spirit sane and sound enough to continue through this seemingly never-ending fight,” she says. With I’m Nice Now, Upchuck channels their feverishness into an album that, yes, is filled with rage. But in addition to being a continuation of their musical exorcism, the album delivers a sharp critique of the powers that be, lamenting why they still have to be those in power.

Originally released in 2009, Found Songs is Ólafur Arnalds’ second EP, following his debut album Eulogy for Evolution. Re-pressed on translucent vinyl for the first time in an edition of 500, Found Songs displays the composer’s prodigious early talent across its seven pieces. Includes 4pp full colour insert and download code. Original sales text from 2009: In April 2009, Iceland’s neo-classical export Ólafur Arnalds created the 7-song series Found Songs – recording a song a day for 7 days and instantly making each track available via Twitter. With artwork contributions from fans via Flickr, this modern release awakens memories of a tradition that seemed lost in the digital age we live in. Born in 1987, Ólafur hails from the suburban Icelandic town, Mosfellsbær, just a few kilometres outside of Reykjavík. He has immersed himself completely in a world of delicate symphonic compositions generating near weightless orchestral pieces. Arnalds explores the crossover from classical to pop by mixing chamber strings and piano with discreet electronics which makes him a perfect fit for cinematic pop label Erased Tapes. His motivations are clear: The classical scene is kind of closed to people who haven't been studying music all their lives. I would like to bring my classical influence to the people who don't usually listen to this kind of music…open people's minds. This young artist steadily gained recognition worldwide since his 2007 debut Eulogy for Evolution. The 2008 follow-up EP Variations of Static earned Ólafur acclaim from both the contemporary and classical field – transcending a traditional divide by uniting their ideals. After filling London’s world-famous Barbican Hall, fellow Icelanders Sigur Rós invited Ólafur to open their most recent European shows, playing to an audience of over 5,000 per night. With the next full-length release due this winter, Ólafur conceived Found Songs as a way to collate several lost and found musical sketches and ideas in a 'very challenging, but fun' series. The experiment offers its listeners an intimate insight into Ólafur Arnalds’ creative world. The songs will be different from what's on my albums; they will be short, mostly just made up from piano. AFTERNOON BIKE RIDE RUNNING WITH SCISSORS Running with Scissors is a cathartic heart ache and, ultimately, a therapeutic exploration of what it means to be alive—to love, to grieve, to regret, and to grow. It pulses with rawness and authenticity, sincerity and honesty, offering both solace and strength to anyone navigating their own emotional journey.

Running with Scissors is the third full-length album from Canadian trio Afternoon Bike Ride. Residing in Montreal, the group is made up of Lia (vocals, guitar, programming), David (vocals, guitar, drums, programming), and Éloi (vocals, keys, drums, programming). Since their formation in 2019, the band has released numerous projects where indie rock blends with acoustic pop, ambient field recordings, and lofi folk. With each track on the new album, the three artists explore the rollercoaster ride of life’s most profound lessons—falling in and out of love, embracing grief, and navigating the complex spectrum of human emotion.
