How did you personally get started in the music industry?

Bryant’s journey into the music industry began in Birmingham, Alabama, playing in local bands and immersing himself in the city’s vibrant DIY music scene. Along the way, he helped friends launch their label, Step Pepper Records, learning the ins and outs of independent music, physical releases, and artist development. Those experiences eventually inspired him to start Earth Libraries, a label built around the idea of discovering, preserving, and sharing extraordinary music, whether it’s a brand-new indie record or a forgotten gem from decades past.

Is there a genre that you would consider to be the label’s “signature style,” or is it a mix?

It’s a mix, and we love it that way. We want Earth Libraries to feel like an actual library, a place where listeners can wander between eras, genres, and scenes. If there’s a throughline, it’s music with heart and a strong sense of place. Our catalog leans toward indie rock, folk, Americana, and experimental sounds, but you’ll also find soul, country, gospel, jazz, and plenty of surprises.

If you had to start a new sub-label, what would it be called and what kind of music would it be geared towards?

We’ve joked for years about launching an archival imprint called Lost Tapes, inspired by Mad Anthony’s The Lost Tapes, which became one of our most beloved releases. It would focus entirely on forgotten recordings, unreleased albums, and overlooked artists who deserve a second chance to be heard.

How would you describe the average fan of the label?

A crate digger. A curious listener. Someone who gets excited about finding a forgotten record from 1974 and an exciting new indie band in the same afternoon.

Where do you go to search for new music?

We’re huge fans of Aquarium Drunkard and New Commute. Both consistently champion adventurous music with thoughtful writing and genuine enthusiasm. Their playlists, radio programs, and editorial coverage have introduced us to countless artists over the years.

We know you can’t choose, but what’s been your favorite label release, and why?

One project we’re especially proud of is Butterfly In The Sky by The Octopus Project. Like many people, we grew up with Reading Rainbow, and the opportunity to help celebrate its legacy felt incredibly meaningful. The packaging was also our most ambitious to date, featuring a butterfly die-cut jacket, a pop-up butterfly inside the gatefold, and splatter vinyl inspired by a rainbow.

What is your stance on color vinyl?

We’re unapologetically pro-color vinyl. While we understand the audiophile arguments, we see vinyl as both a listening experience and a visual medium. Thoughtful variants can help tell the story of a release. That said, we don’t think every album needs forty different versions.

How do you feel about the rising costs of vinyl records? And what about the continued popularity of the CD format?

The rising cost of vinyl is challenging for labels, artists, and fans alike. At the same time, we’re encouraged that people continue to value physical media. We’ve also been excited to see CDs experience a resurgence, especially among younger listeners looking for affordable ways to build music collections. We appreciate the format for its fidelity, and we like the expansion of the Super CD formats.

What in your opinion has been the biggest change in the music industry from when you first started compared to now?

Discovery has become increasingly algorithm-driven. Editorial playlists, music publications, and independent curators still matter, but they no longer hold the same influence they once did. It can make it harder for independent artists to break through, but it’s also pushed labels like ours to become more creative. Encouragingly, we’re seeing renewed interest in curation, physical media, and community-driven music discovery.

How do you view the issue of being environmentally sustainable within the music industry?

Fun fact: streaming actually uses more energy than the entire vinyl industry!! But sustainability is important to us. We regularly utilize recycled vinyl options whenever possible and try to be thoughtful about manufacturing. More broadly, we believe physical media encourages a more intentional relationship with music. We also believe the industry should continue exploring ways to reduce waste (and excessive variants) while supporting artists and fans alike.

They say our sun will explode in about 5 billion years or sohow would you like the label to be remembered?

Recently, we worked on an archival compilation featuring long-lost Alabama recordings and invited contemporary artists to cover some of the songs. One of those tracks was originally written by Tommy Stuart of the band Rubberband. Tommy had always dreamed of hearing another artist interpret his music, but it never happened during the band’s original run. Decades later, we were able to make that dream a reality.

That’s what we’d like Earth Libraries to be remembered for: connecting generations of musicians, preserving overlooked stories, and ensuring that great music, whether new or forgotten, continues to find its audience.

On "Chauffeur," Zeimani, BG, and Kucha recount the trials and tribulations they each faced while trying to make rent as Uber drivers. In their respective verses, they recount the horror stories of drunken passengers, spilling wine, and heavy petting in their backseats, and grapple with the futility of trying to stack meager fares into rent money: How many miles do I have to burn? How many corners do I have to turn? ...Just to keep my place? There are no flowery metaphors here. This song is about the real struggles people are facing to survive everyday. The raw emotion in the Sisters' pleas is matched note for note by the orchestration: the seething fury of the brass, the pleading desperation of the strings, and the endlessly driving swagger of the rhythm section. A discerning ear may even decipher the actual car horns blasting behind the blinding rage of the backgrounds' refrain: Drive!

OVERVIEW

Lost In Another World is James Ellis Ford’s excellent, emotionally resonant second solo album. It was made from start to finish in just over two weeks in early 2025, while James was on a hospital ward between punishing rounds of chemotherapy, following a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), an aggressive cancer of the white blood cells.

He hadn’t even fully absorbed the implications of the diagnosis – nine months of treatment with only a 30% survival rate – before a bed was found for him at Barts, London. During the second round of treatment, James (known for his production work with Fontaines D.C., Arctic Monkeys, Blur, Depeche Mode and as both a solo artist and one half of Simian Mobile Disco) did the only thing that felt natural to him; he wrote, played, sang, recorded and mixed a solo album about the experience.

“There was no filter. I just sang the first thing that came into my head into the laptop.” It became a form of diary keeping; a way to process what was going on and also a way to cheer himself up, which would account for why some of the album is so surprisingly upbeat and poppy: “It was a pep talk; I was telling myself I was going to be OK. It was one way of dealing with the existential dread I felt. It gave me the ammunition to fight the experience and was a distraction from it.”

Lost In Another World shares the experiences from the frontline of illness; fear, love, reassurance, boredom, pain, calm, disbelief, and ultimately hope. These transmissions from the eye of the storm have informed an album which is truly something special.

Following their 2025 US tour together with Napalm Death and the Melvins, Jerry A of Portland's Poison Idea and his mates from Sydney The Hard-Ons - Blackie, Ray and Murray - have finally announced their joint album, which is titled simply Hard-Ons/Jerry A

The Hard-Ons first toured with Poison Idea back in the late '80s and first recorded with Jerry A as guest vocalist back in 1993 - Jerry co-wrote and sung the track "The Blade" on their Too Far Gone album. The track recently resurfaced on Jerry's solo album From The Fire Into The Water. The first produce of their new collaboration came out last in the form of single - "You Won't Shut Up"/"Dead End Turnaround" - released ahead of the Amercian dates last year.

Of the collaboration, Blackie tells us "We toured and collaborated a few times before and always talked about getting serious... well here's the start of that. Hard-Ons with Jerry A!! It's happening."

The two bands - Jerry A and Poison Idea and the Hard-Ons - shared not only a mutual history and a significant level of influence but a mutual love of all things hard and fast. Both bands formed in the early '80s, having been weened at a young age on the classic punk of the late '70s as well as its high energy rock'm'roll precursors. Both bands quickly became iconoclastic transgressors of both good taste and punk convention as they moved into harder/wilder realms later in the decade, and both band's spent much of the '90s sitting atop - and at the same time somewhat apart from - the international hardcore scene.

Sometimes an album title arrives like a voice from across time. For Johanna Samuels, Sorry, Kid felt like a message to her younger self. Part apology, but also an acknowledgment that maturity means recognizing what you couldn't see at the time. The album ends a chapter that began nearly two decades ago, gathering songs from as early as 2007 alongside newer work shaped by hard-earned clarity. Reflecting on the finished record, Samuels says, “I think about how much has changed since I wrote these songs, and I know that releasing them will finally close the stitch on a chapter of my life that taught me so much.”

The record holds 70s tones without leaning on them, drawing from a lineage of melody and restraint while staying fully alive in its own time. It feels lived in, steady, and quietly powerful, like something finally understood without needing to be explained. The result is intimate and fully realized, songs that began as questions now settling into something like resolution.

“As sharp as I sing, it still soothes you, doesn’t it? Like a lick of ice cream?” sings Thao Nguyen on her Kill Rock Stars debut, We Brave Bee Stings and All. Whether it's intentional or not, the line describes her sound perfectly. Nguyen's rich, breathy voice -- and the way she croons, yelps, and drawls with it -- recalls Cat Power, Fiona Apple, and Sinéad O'Connor. However, these comparisons suggest that Thao is a searing, intense artist when nothing could be further from the truth: her country-tinged indie folk-pop is playfully observant, mischievous with just a hint of vulnerability. After the Dischord Records band Hoover broke up in 1994, Dunham teamed up with Cret Wilson (bass, vocals) and Areif Sless-Kitain (drums) to widen his sonic vision. Together they quickly developed a powerful sound rooted in punk rock and post-hardcore while indulging more experimental impulses. Dunham's unconventional tunings defined the power trio's unique sonic footprint. They weaved together dubby production, odd time signatures, and ambient textures into a dark, intoxicating blend.

During their short run, they released several records on Slowdime Records with support from Dischord Records, including their debut 12" The Mercury EP and full-length LP, The Aesthetics of No-Drag.

In 2024 the band partnered with Solid Brass Records to reissue their back catalog. During the process the band was inspired to record some new material and we’re thrilled to release it digitally and on Limited Edition colored vinyl.

Sixty-four years after John Coltrane recorded the groundbreaking Africa/Brass for Impulse!, Tenderlonious honours the original recording while pushing it forward with a Coltrane-like fervour of his own. Africa/Brass Live was recorded at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival in October 2025, as part of Pique-nique's Take Two series. Each Take Two event begins with an uninterrupted, highfidelity playback of a seminal album, heard as it was originally intended,followedbyalivereinterpretationwithfullartisticfreedom. It's an experiment into what happens when serious musicians immerse themselves in a work long enough to discover their own path through it.

For this performance, Tenderlonious assembled a quartet of trusted collaborators. Tim Carnegie, his longtime Ruby Rushton drummer, flew in from London. Horatio Luna on bass and On-Ly on piano completed the group, two Melbourne musicians Tenderlonious describes as "seriously underrated." The melodies, he said, would be the foundation. After that, the search would begin. And the search was fierce!

That's what you're hearing on this record. One beautiful note, Tenderlonious will tell you, means more than a thousand. Coltrane knew it. And on a Monday night in Melbourne, they proved it.

Writing a bio for a secret band is a bit like cleaning a house that nobody is living in. It looks good on your resumé but do we really need it? Only ghosts do.

Talking about ghosts: there is AI for this kind of stuff, but unfortunately, even AI is too serious and will write a 'proper' bio because AI knows stuff. Name names. Name places. Name influences. Name tour dates. Name quotes by Oscar Wilde and/or Noel Gallagher. And none of that is relevant to Ferries After the 2025 release of Ferries' quickly-vanishing first LP, Eye Flutter, not much changed for the band. They continued to exist by not existing. Et voila, a new record, Eye Wander, is now here.

Although the medium is the same as the previous one (black gold), they've taken a next step in a smoky journey into a dubby and kraut-y world of creating songs and musical moments. Is 'avant garde pop' a genre? Or even 'dub kraut'? I know 'indie' certainly is, and I don't really agree with that either, and even a broken clock is right twice a day so what's the point anyway.

Special Friend have become the masters of weaving elegant and sophisticated pop musical webs while staying true to their low-fi indiepop roots. The French/American duo (Guillaume on guitar and vocals, Erica on drums and vocals) manage to create a sound like no other band. When they play live, audiences marvel at the huge, intricate structures the band construct, while falling in love with the crystal-clear vocal melodies that are threaded in between the shards of guitar and the rattle of the drums.

The new album is more diverse that the last, with the high-tempo indiepop of first single ‘Breakfast’, the majestic, Yo La Tengo-like dreampop of ‘Clipping’ and the country-ish, gentle, homesick melancholy of ‘Isolation’. Final track ‘OOO’ is a bold piece of Krautrock-inspired experimentation; ‘Mold’ is a beautiful slice of slowcore and opener ‘Paint A Picture’ is modern pop at its catchiest and most direct.

‘Clipping’, the album title, refers to the discipline of pruning growth back, removing dead wood to create a perfectly shaped tree with abundant blossoms: an accurate description of the album, and of the songs that hang from its elegant branches. The album artwork is by Erica: Special Friend are in control of every aspect of this elegant artefact.

‘Clipping’ was recorded in 2025 at Studio Claudio by Alexis Fugain and Margaux Bouchaudon. Set in an isolated rural environment conducive to immersion, the band had seven days in the studio significantly more than for previous records allowing for greater care in the recording process, particularly for vocals and arrangements. Several tracks feature synthesizers and organs, acoustic guitar, and even an electric bass on “Sanctuary,” a first for Special Friend.

OVERVIEW

Julia Holter always knew that there were many forms her song “Materia” could take. The tune’s dynamic Hildegard von Bingen-inspired melody and dense modal chords stood on their own without a complex arrangement on her wondrous 2024 album Something in the Room She Moves, but she felt a lingering desire to expand the texture and stretch out the harmony.

But on the new Materia, a kind of companion LP to Something, Holter has realized not one but two distinct versions of the song. “Materia 2” is a hallucinatory dream of drum machines, fretless bass, and clarinet, Holter’s voice spiraling through ether alongside that of Jessika Kenney. And on “Materia 3,” intended as a hidden bonus track in an homage to the CD era of her youth, Holter literally slows down the take from Something. The change not only emphasizes the unpredictable glory of the harmonies within but also reiterates the song’s emotional sophistication, the sense that it’s about learning how to live.

Materia is only seven tracks long, but Holter works in nearly that many modes here. There are two astounding improvisations, one where she builds a one-person ensemble of drum machines and synth lines and another where she manipulates her voice until each word seems to contain another symphony. And yet another is built from a riff that came from a demo for Something, a demo that itself is one of Materia’s most spellbinding and emotional pieces, “My Twin.” These seven songs show that Holter is among her generation’s most fluid writers of art-pop, moving among ideas and idioms with true exploratory aplomb. Materia is a kind of playground for Holter, where each distinct scene steadily coheres into a moving whole.

Wooden Shjips’ rise to prominence from the psychedelic underground to the rock and roll overground has been a steady sojourn. With each consecutive release, the band has found new ways of transforming heady psychedelic rock into minimalist masterpieces, bridging the gap between the woozy freeness of Les Rallizes Denudes and Crazy Horse and the tightly wound simplicity of Suicide and the Velvet Underground. Back To Land, the quartet’s follow-up to West, is the first Wooden Shjips record to be conceived outside of San Francisco. Ripley Johnson and Omar Ahsanuddin moved to Oregon, where the lush climates became a major influence on the songwriting. The band’s scope expanded to include more earthy, grounded tones, such as the acoustic guitar, without abandoning their modernist psych core.

There is an increased brightness to many of the songs on Back To Land, an easiness with which the band has flirted with in the past but never fully realized until now. The nervy urgency of West has evolved into an assured confidence, from the alliterative, interlocking guitar and organ groove of “Ruins” to the languidly compelling guitar solos of “Servants.” The addition of the acoustic guitar to the band’s textural palate is coupled here with some of the most melodically direct songs the band has written.

Still, there are still plenty of signature Shjips songs, with distorted riffs, modal keys, and a steady, crisp drum sound unfolding intensely while the elongated melodic guitar lines drift in and out of the foreground. On Back to Land this energy is captured in clear detail, designed as an immersive experience rather than a passive blasting. Back To Land was laid to tape at Jackpot Recording Studios in Portland by Kendra Lynn and mixed by Larry Crane. It was recorded over an 11-day session, resulting in some of the most detailed and spacious recordings of their career.

Back To Land is a breakthrough record for the Wooden Shjips: nuanced, varied and utterly addictive.

Even at first blush, Splayed Werks, Tyondai Braxton’s new album, his first full-length release since the recording of his 2022 symphonic work, Telekinesis, reveals itself as unlike what came before and marks the beginning of a new chapter with UK label Erased Tapes. First off, there’s a lot more music here, 70+ minutes of pure electronics and sound design. Plus, it’s divided in a way that’s out-of-step with the longer forms the 47 year-old composer/producer has previously imagined into being. Of the album’s 15 tracks, more than two-thirds are sub-five minutes.

It may be a perfect album for 2026, a time when the sonic landscape continues to fervently embrace increasingly radical hybrids, at once club soundsystem-ready, art-installation-leaning, and music-school-mediated. But also, importantly, intuitive and hand-crafted. It’s no stretch to say that Tyondai had a hand in building this world. His two decades-plus-long career has seen him co-found electronic prog-punk heroes Battles (which he’s described as “a laboratory that masqueraded as a band”); performing as a duo with Philip Glass; write numerous electro-acoustic and chamber commissions for celebrated American new-music ensembles such as Bang on a Can All-Stars, Alarm Will Sound, Third Coast Percussion, Brooklyn Rider, and Yarn/Wire; having his “part installation, part band” HIVE project appear at The Guggenheim Museum, Sydney Opera House, and a 3-night residency at Big Ears Festival; and deliver a series of technologically ambitious, at times orchestral works for lauded labels of electronic, experimental and futuremusic, Warp and Nonesuch Records.

As a portfolio, Splayed Werks hews to the menu of a dance music meets minimalist electronic composition, a throughline that stretches from IDM absurdists like Aphex Twin and Autechre, to contemporary immersives like Mica Levi and Laurel Halo. (And, to a lesser degree, to Braxton’s comrades and occasional collaborators, Kieran “Four Tet” Hebden, Jeffrey Cantu-Ledesma and Ben Vida.) It’s a world in which the multitude of dirty rhythms strays far outside club-land’s big rooms though one can imagine expert mixing hands and a world-class soundsystem transforming the dubwise lo-fi linearity of “Oslo” into a psychedelic wonder, while the interplay between the bass-synth and the constantly deviating shuffle on “UnFS” may qualify as a leftfield banger. And its composed beatless spaces have little to do with current ambient proclivities the at-once aggressive and ecstatic, panning miniature, “Realistic Water” sounds like power Laraaji.

Bridging the sound of two distinctive auteurs within modern electronic music, Exhale is the natural convergence of Batu and Donato Dozzy's revered, distinctive sonic signatures. With techno in the broadest sense as a framework, the pair have created an immersive listening experience that celebrates the flashpoint of inspiration and thrives on experimentation.

As Batu, Omar McCutcheon has made a huge impression on modern club music by channeling the soundsystem-rooted principles of dubstep into inventive mutations that defy easy categorisation. Donato Dozzy has been a leading figure in European techno since the mid 00s, helping pioneer a culture of deeply immersive, subtle dance music charged with ambient atmospheres. The pair first connected in Japan in 2019, discovering a mutual appreciation for each others' work and a curiosity about how their distinct sounds might intersect.

In February 2025 Batu visited Dozzy's studio in Rome. Within that Aladdin's cave of hardware, the pair mapped out a continuous, instinctive flow of sketches that became the bedrock of Exhale

Between Dozzy's gear-focused practice and Batu's detailed software manipulations a dialogue emerged between the duo's distinct styles, making space for each other and learning along the path to a record both unique and innately connected to their respective musical legacies.

The eight fully-formed pieces that make up Exhale bear the hallmarks of both creators in equal measure. Ten years ago, in August 2016, singer, songwriter & producer Marius Lauber — known as Roosevelt — burst onto the international music scene with his self-titled debut album. Having balanced tradition and innovation for over three decades, Taake remains fiercely independent while continually pushing its own creative boundaries. “No one likes it when trash makes a sound,” shouts Mike Wallace five minutes into “Working in Shoes,” the last track on the strangely confrontational and magnetic second album, COLD RIBS, from his band of post-punk form-fuckers, RIBS. Can you hear the smile and the sneer in his doubled voice, the line bouncing between speakers like lasers in a mirrored room, while the rhythm section lands as heavy as gnarled fists on a wooden table and the guitar stings like a newspaper headline so bad it gives you a headache? By this point, for nearly an hour, RIBS has served the sound of that garbage, delivering cold truths about this hot planet the bad habits that hinder us, the inevitability of our existential suffering, the idiots empowered by weaponized technology, the corruption of things that once seemed cool because, well, they were in fact cool. Wallace and the rest of RIBS see the problems, and they want you to hear the sound that reality’s trash makes whether you like it or, especially, not.

COLD RIBS calls for a fun game of band genealogy: Is that The Fall and Faust echoing down the long hallway of opener “Decomp in the Field”? Maybe. And does the savage “High Fives of the Four Horsemen” feel like Fugazi dosed on just enough This Heat to you, too? Probably. And, wait, does “Cold Daylight” reimagine The Rolling Stones in 2026 as a band not still trying to peddle young-men bullshit but squaring up to the real world? Hopefully. But the real thing to know about RIBS Wallace, who cuts vitriol with a vocabulary full of winks; guitarist Finn Cohen, who loves riffs and their opposite; drummer Josh Germeroth and bassist David Mueller, who know exactly when to punch hard or pull back is that they have been writing records in other bands in North Carolina’s influential scene for a long time. They know by now the way that rock ’n’ roll, however slanted and strangling it seems, is a pressure valve for bleeding off the strain of these times, even if it doesn’t fix anything.

“What used to scare me is no longer frightening/No, not anymore,” Wallace speak-sings on repeat during “Strange Victories,” landing a hook that feels as unlikely as a rainbow in a snowstorm. “Whatever’s coming is coming for you and me/So open that door.” Into the void we go, then, RIBS and us, us and RIBS.

Ancient Infinity Orchestra return with their third album, It’s Always About Liberation, a new record that deepens the vision of their acclaimed recent work while moving into darker, more searching emotional territory.

Conceived as a partner to It’s Always About Love, this new body of work shares its predecessor’s generosity and spiritual openness, but carries a different charge. Where the previous album focused on healing and warmth, It’s Always About Liberation is largely animated by struggle, perseverance and the desire for transformation while still offering a path to betterment. It is music made in full awareness of a fractured world, yet unwilling to surrender to it.

Like It’s Always About Love the album title draws inspiration from words spoken by Moor Mother during their 2024 We Out Here festival performance that deeply affected bandleader Ozzy Moysey: “It’s always about love / It’s always about liberation.” Those twin ideas became a framework for the two albums Ancient Infinity Orchestra were creating. If one album explored love as repair, this one explores liberation as movement, continually striving toward freedom, clarity and deeper connection.

The 16-member ensemble is led by double bassist and composer Ozzy, with a distinctive line-up that explains their sound better than any artificial genre divisions: two double basses, harp, saxophones, clarinets, violin, viola, cello, oboe, flutes, mandolin, congas, piano, drum kit, with bells, shakers and other percussion instruments scattered on the floor of live sets and recording sessions, ready for members to use whenever the spirit takes them.

This orchestration, and the overlap between membership and friendship, gives Ancient Infinity Orchestra a sound that is at once expansive and intimate, earthy, and cosmic, constantly shifting yet grounded in shared intention. The attention to intention and the inviting sonic world connects the music to artists ranging from Alabaster dePlume to Gondwana label boss Matthew Halsall.

Gradually, the Orchestra became a grounding force in the emerging jazz scene in Leeds, bringing together individuals from different musical backgrounds co-founding the Café Oto-inspired Limpet Club or co-hosting the monthly Sonic Plunge (‘a platform for adventurous experimentation’) and co-founding the Leeds Improvisers Orchestra. Additionally, the ensemble acted as a bridge between musicians in Brighton and Leeds, after Ozzy spent a stint back on the south coast between 2020 and 2022.

Their debut, River of Light, was a vibrant celebration of togetherness recorded in three days and released on Gondwana in 2023. A Maida Vale session for Jamie Cullum’s BBC Radio 2 show brought them to a broader audience, as did bookings at North Sea Jazz Festival and Gretchen, Berlin. Since then, Ancient Infinity Orchestra has become a by-word for music that could be framed as ‘spiritual jazz’. Whilst Ozzy avoids the phrase when describing his music, he’s crystal clear that his heroes are associated with those words – citing Art Ensemble of Chicago, Pharoah Saunders, Coltrane (Alice and John), and Don Cherry as major influences.

Across trance-like meditations, rising grooves, moments of grief and collective uplift, It’s Always About Liberation speaks to the battle within the mind as much as the inequalities of the wider world. It acknowledges the darkness but lets connection and creativity have the last word

Drawing inspiration from Blonde Redhead, Sonic Youth, Autolux, and Unwound, French Film has been gaining traction in Austin’s underground shoegaze and post-hardcore scene since they formed in the winter of 2023.

The four piece (Ash Keenum on vocals and guitar, Drake Moreno on guitar, Colby Falkner James on bass and Joshua Harpur on drums) released their first EP, ‘Yours’, in May of 2025 and have since shared stages with Drook, Courting, Unwed Sailor, We Are Scientists, and more. French Film are known for their visceral and sonically intense live shows and they were a standout band at SXSW this year.

In 2026 the band joined Los Angeles label Solid Brass Records and announced an upcoming compilation album, ‘Yours + Five’, featuring ten tracks chock full of atmospheric melodies combined with abrasive and jarring tension. Recorded with Kevin Butler (Die Spitz, Black Books) at Test Tube Audio, the band’s forthcoming release touches on the juxtaposition of the horrors and hopes of modern society as well as matters of the heart.

‘Yours + Five’ will be released on 8/21/26 and will be available digitally and on Limited Edition Ruby Red vinyl.

HIKARIGASASHIKOMU translates as ‘Light Shines In’, a Japanese phrase conveying a sense of hope in a difficult place. Opening new creative possibilities for Foodman, this astonishing album is an introspective yet hyperactive body of work, representing the clarity and light found after a period of self-exploration. While this is a deeply personal record, it also captures the now-universal sound of a brain stretched between 500 open tabs, multitasking into oblivion in a world in which attention deficit is a global media environment, not merely a privatized psychological malaise.

Focusing more on the use of voice, the album incorporates Foodman’s own looped vocals, singing elements of Japanese children’s songs and playground rhymes, and his everyday thoughts. Despite its charm and innocence, this soundworld leaps around manically, fractures and dissolves. Foodman’s voice repeats, disassembles, speeds up and down and is bounced around deliriously, as sound elements call and respond around him.

Structurally and vocally, influences are drawn from footwork, ghetto house, and baile funk, all of which are maximally abstracted into bursts of spiralling psychedelic effects
