BIO Grammy-winning, Harvard-educated, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted artist, songwriter, and activist Tom Morello, renowned for his innovative guitar solos and thunderous chords, is living proof of the transformative power of rock’n’roll. He is a groundbreaking solo artist and is a founding member of the critically acclaimed, iconic bands Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave. Both bands continue to be lauded for their musicianship, songwriting, and powerful live performances, with Tom’s incendiary guitar playing instantly recognizable to fans. RATM and Audioslave received multiple Grammy Awards and boast combined worldwide LP sales of 30 million albums. Tom’s trademark style was a crucial component of Rage Against the Machine, helping launch Morello and the band to multi-platinum success - which in turn led to his recognition by Rolling Stone Magazine as the 18th “Greatest Guitar Player of All-Time” and subsequent inductions into both the Rock & Roll and Metal Hall of Fame. He has made music history over his decades-long career, including touring for six years with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, where his signature playing style can be heard, as well as forming the supergroup Prophets of Rage. In between all of that, Tom found time to tour and record as a solo artist known as the Nightwatchman and has released four LPs under that moniker. Morello is well-known as a vocal political activist and can often be found at the front of picket lines, strikes and protests around the United States: solidarity with United Mine Workers of America in Brookwood, AL, the United Farm Workers of America in Sacramento, CA, and the Star Garden Strippers Union in North Hollywood, CA to name a few. In 2023, Tom received the Music Will Humanitarian of the Year award for his efforts in sponsoring multiple music education programs across the country for schools in need, and is an ACLU Artist for Smart Justice for his advocacy work. Additionally, Tom can be heard every week on SiriusXM curating his playlists and hosting his show, “One Man Revolution.” Earlier this year, Tom and Bruce Springsteen went to Minnesota to protest the Minneapolis ICE raids and the murders of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, and this month in New York City he joined with the organization Hands Off NYC to protest ICE and its abuses outside of 26 Federal Plaza - an Immigration Court in Manhattan. This week from stage with Bruce Springsteen, whom Morello has been touring with for the last month, Tom announced The Power To The People Festival — a celebration of peace, justice, solidarity, music, and community action — taking place Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. The one-day festival will feature special performances from an extraordinary lineup of artists and activists including Dave Matthews, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, Joan Baez, Killer Mike, Brittany Howard, Dropkick Murphys, Jack Black (featuring Roman Morello, Revel Ian, Yoyoka Soma and Hugo Weiss), Serj Tankian, grandson, The Neighborhood Kids, Taylor Momsen, Matt Cameron, The Linda Lindas, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and Tom Morello, and a DJ set by legendary artist Shepard Fairey. Today, Power To The People announced that Public Enemy has also been added to the line-up. Curated by Tom Morello, the Power To The People Festival brings together artists, fans, activists, and grassroots organizations for an unforgettable day celebrating the power of music and collective action to inspire change. In addition to performances across two stages, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, artists, and community partners in the festival’s Freedom Village — an immersive space highlighting opportunities for civic engagement, grassroots organizing, education, mutual aid, and social impact initiatives. A portion of the proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to VoteRiders, a pro-democracy, pro-voter organization working to restore and strengthen democracy by eliminating confusing and restrictive ID-related barriers to the ballot box, and HeadCount, who will also be on site to help fans register to vote and learn more about how to participate in upcoming elections.

The winter of 1990/91: heady times for Swervedriver. The
band is freshly signed to Creation Records and are holed up inside Playground Studios in London, recording the demos for what will be the Raise LP on a Tascam Portastudio. Whole songs, basic ideas, jams, riffs or sometimes mere fragments are all filtered through the channels of an outdated mixing desk. The audio quality is not pristine: you may hear an occasional bum note or a dropped beat here and
there. You will definitely hear the hiss of amplifiers and the buzz of FX pedals, but most
importantly you will also hear the songs as they first emerged: fresh and, to all intents and purposes, played live.
Raise: Demos contains the best moments of those original portastudio tapes, expertly restored and rebalanced by Tim Turan, but still raw and immediate in a way that transports you straight into that grimy rehearsal room in Camden Town over 35 years ago.

NO BUCKING WAY!?! Weʼve been in the Buck Owens business for over 30 years now and weʼve never come accross unissued Buck Owens material. Until now.
Buck was not one to let his art go unappreciated. If it was worth recording, it was worth releasing and making a few bucks. For that reason, weʼve always been told to never expect unissued bonus tracks, let alone a full professionally recorded live show from 1968... but itʼs happened and no one knows why. Along with Buckaroos Don Rich, Doyle Holly, Tom Brumley and Jerry Wiggins, Buck and the gang romp through hits and deeper cuts all from the long lost original Capitol reels! From Ralph Emery warming up the crowd to his thank you at the end, Buck Owens & the Buckaroos at the Mint is different than any other live Buck album in that itʼs as much a live album as it is a look at the making of a live album back in ʼ68. We take the listener behind the scenes, including comments from Ralph and Buck that would surely have been edited out. In fact, as funny as Doyle Holly is on this release, itʼs highly unlikely Capitol would have allowed Doyleʼs “We canʼt say ʻhellʼ or anything” line to survive. The crowds at the Mint got to experience the true artist – the Boss of Bakersfield who pre-dated the bumpkin in the backwards-worn overalls sitting on a bale of hay. In March of 1968, the man was at the absolute peak of his musical powers. He was, in the words of emcee Ralph Emery, “Americaʼs #1 country music singer.

THE BOOTLEG SOUNDS OF MARSHALL CRENSHAW 1984-1987 Marshall Crenshaw has dug through his archives and curated a compilation of previously unreleased recordings, demos and live songs recorded between 1984 and 1989. Songs include a cover of Buddy Holly’s “That’ll Be the Day,” featuring Garry Tallent and Max Weinberg; demo versions of songs that would appear on his third and fourth studio albums; live recordings from 1986-87; and other lost recordings Marshall unearthed from his studio. One very cool artifact included here is a demo snippet featuring vocals by Kirsty McColl. Marshall had been working on a demo for the song, “(We’re Gonna) Shake Up Their Minds,” but had hit a block in writing it. According to Marshall, “At one point when I was struggling to write it, I sent the backing tracks to Kirsty MacColl to see what might happen- she wrote her own song (‘All I Ever Wanted’) over the tracks; it wound up on one of her albums (and a UK single too, but not one of her hits unfortunately). I’m presenting this the way I found it on the tape reel—my demo, followed by the last bit of her demo, which I accidentally recorded over.”

On their third album, FANGS, London collective HMLTD have created an entirely new genre: Götherdammerüng (or ÜberGöth). Predictably unpredictable, it could not be further away from their last outing, 2023 rock opera The Worm. The sixteen-piece orchestra has been traded in for Ableton, the timpani and violins replaced with side-chained four-to-the-floor and rave synths, and the gospel choir swapped for guttural gothic howling and black metal screams. The result is both unique and terrifying: a total reinvention and rehabilitation of the goth genre, through the looking glass of modern electronic and doomscroll-era dance music. This new beginning was accompanied by a change in personnel, with Theo Spark and Andrei Martynchyk joining the fray alongside original members Henry Spychalski and Duc Peterman. Decamping to a ruined château in the Loire Valley, the quartet became obsessed with vampire lore, and the EBM and goth sound that inspired their early work: Fad Gadget, DAF, Nitzer Ebb, Suicide and Bauhaus. FANGS also points to more contemporary influences like Crystal Castles, German hardcore, 2000s blog-house a la Justice, and 2020s sleazepop. The world crafted in FANGS is full of cosmic pessimism, glowing horror, imperceptible evil and digital dismemberment, ancient curses and ruined castles, Vampires. But it is also a thoroughly fun, and funny, record, as danceable as it is deep. Born of the club, some tracks would not sound out of place on Brat. Like a Smiths song which sounds happy and carefree until your brain tunes in to the misery of the lyrics, it can be listened to - and enjoyed - on two levels. One can get lost in the throb of bass and ludic synths, or tune into the horror of the lyrics which overlay them. FANGS attempts to offer up a reflection to a culture that - like a Vampire - has lost its own. The result is something not only thoroughly modern, original and inventive - but that feels genuinely dangerous and potent. FANGS delights in this ambiguity: simultaneously indicting decadence, decay and moral rot, while luxuriating in its intoxication by it. Cacophonous sub-bass becomes a chthonic call of the void; seraphic rave synths become the screech of valkyries; four-to-the-floor becomes a deathly funeral march. Vampire apocalypse.

Part songwriter, part street photographer, Josh Rouse steps out on his new album as an itinerant documentarian capturing the drifters, dreamers, and passing strangers who slip in and out of our lives, and finding himself somewhere in the frame too. Museums and Women is Rouse at his most hopeful and romantic, balancing casual poetry with wry humor across a collection of characters who are searching but never desperate, longing but never lonely. Recorded in Nashville with longtime production partner Brad Jones (Chuck Prophet, Hayes Carll), the album came together almost by accident resulting in loose, unplanned studio sessions with Rouse on guitar, Jones on bass, and Fred Eltringham (Sheryl Crow, The Chicks) on drums, cut live and fresh, morning sessions followed by same-day overdubs. The title itself borrows from a John Updike book Rouse has always loved, and it fits: these songs treat ordinary human connection and its absence like gallery-worthy art. From the jangly optimism of opener “Spring” to the bossa nova drift of “Sunday In The Country” to the rain-soaked wandering of “Parnell Street,” Rouse’s narrators move through the world in transit but never lost, mapping the space between the people we long for and the people we become. “There’s always a woman involved,” Rouse says. “Love — or the search for it — is what ties them all together.” It’s a fitting return for an artist NPR has called one of contemporary music’s most engaging singer-songwriters, whose career spans from his celebrated 1998 debut Dressed Up Like Nebraska through the Goya Awardwinning “Do You Really Want To Be In Love.” Nearly three decades in, Rouse sounds unburdened and unhurried, chasing nothing but the joy of the work itself. The album reunites Mike Reed with Rob Frye, Cooper Crain, Dan Quinlivan (all of the trio Bitchin Bajas), Marvin Tate, and Ben LaMar Gay in a set that moves between composition, reconstruction, improvisation, and song form. Part of what gives Sing the Color Blue its character is the unusual length and shape of its creation. Elements of the album reach back across nearly a decade, starting in January 2022 at Constellation in Chicago and the majority of the recording completed between November 2023 and April 2024 at Electrical Audio. The record unfolded gradually, with Reed returning to the material repeatedly until the album’s final structure revealed itself. Sing the Color Blue includes both a cover of the avant-garde cellist Tristan Honsinger’s “Restless in Pieces” and an arrangement of Conlon Nancarrow’s Study for Player Piano No. 6, placing the record in dialogue with two very different but equally iconoclastic minds. Elsewhere, the vocal material is treated with striking flexibility. Some pieces were captured live in-studio performances, including the opening track “Closing” and “Last Night on Earth,” preserving the volatility and immediacy of the band in real time. Other Pieces , including “Tea Leaves Pt. 2,” “If I Were a Song,” and “New Angels,” were produced and arranged from material Reed had recorded with Marvin Tate over a period of years. “Over the years I reordered several hours of Marvin for various projects. During the sessions for this album we tried a lot of vocal material. When I couldn’t find the right direction, I would go back to these earlier sessions for potential source material.” Reed reassembled fragments of Tate’s words and performances into new lyrical structures, often changing their original meaning completely, and in some cases provided Tate with melodic lines to sing against or within that material. The results are a record where authorship feels layered rather than singular: songs emerge from live interaction, archival excavation, editing, rearrangement, and re-composition at once. The title Sing the Color Blue also reflects that spirit of transformation. Reed has said the phrase grew partly out of a friend’s critique of his nearly all-blue wardrobe and his longstanding attraction to Bauhaus aesthetics. He was also struck by a phrase from a documentary in which a historian described people being instructed to “dance the color blue.” Reed reshaped that line into Sing the Color Blue, a title that suggests synesthesia, instruction, abstraction, and also a subtle relation to the blues and to Chicago’s musical history. In that sense, the title names the album’s larger purpose: turning mood into form, color into sound, and fragments of lived time into music.

Tomorrow’s World is the new album from synth-punk/darkwave artist N8NOFACE. Fully produced by Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio, the record also features contributions from Hudson Mohawke, Snow Wife, and Angélica Garcia. On Tomorrow’s World, N8NOFACE pushes beyond the DIY spaces that formed him, delivering his most ambitious album yet: a collection of hard-as-nails songs that manage to be furiously catchy. In line with N8's cyberpunk aesthetic, Tomorrow's World's title comes from the 1960s British TV show of the same name about tech and science. N8 came across the show when he found a clip of Kraftwerk performing and breaking down their music on it, with Tomorrow's World being credited in breaking the band to a wider audience. Info: Having worked with the likes of Alex G, Tinashe, Mitski, and countless others over a 15-year span, Ryan Hemsworth has developed an uncanny ear for talent while simultaneously honing his craft as a shapeshifting producer comfortable in any genre setting. Although known for his prolific output and seemingly endless high-profile collaborations, Numbskull is Hemsworth’s first solo album since 2018’s Elsewhere, and his first for Topshelf Records. On Numbskull, Hemsworth squares a tangled mix of influences ranging from shoegaze to lo-fi to metal, all squeezed through the lens of his globe-trotting pop background. Hemsworth embraces these heavy, distorted influences on the blown-out lead single “One Step,” a blaring foundation for the boisterous vocal performance delivered by Sarah Tudzin of Illuminati Hotties. Best known as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist in Foxwarren, Darryl Kissick has long been drawn to music that rewards patience and close listening. While his songwriting has helped shape Foxwarren's distinctive blend of folk, psychedelia, and experimental pop, his latest solo work reveals a more meditative side. Character Actor was born from a convergence of personal recovery and collective uncertainty. As Kissick watched Saskatchewan skies fill with smoke from northern wildfires, witnessed increasingly chaotic weather, and grappled with the political and technological forces reshaping daily life, a quiet sense of existential dread settled in. Rather than respond with louder music, he found himself drawn toward stillness. "While feeling overwhelmed by outside forces," Kissick explains, "I felt compelled to make something sparse and quiet." Throughout Character Actor, peaceful ambient passages are occasionally interrupted by harsher textures, mirroring the way moments of calm are so often disrupted by the world beyond our control.
The album's creation was also shaped by an unexpected physical setback. After breaking his hip in a hockey accident, Kissick spent six weeks confined to bed recovering from surgery. Sleep-deprived and in constant pain, music initially felt impossible. As his wife brought his recording equipment downstairs so he could work from home, something unexpected emerged: instrumental compositions began flowing naturally. "Perhaps I lacked the capacity to worry about words and melodies," he reflects. "Whatever the case, working on this album helped bring me calm and gave me a sense of purpose." The resulting collection trades lyrics for atmosphere, unfolding through ambient textures, tape-warped soundscapes, fluttering acoustic guitars, and quietly cinematic arrangements. There are echoes of experimental folk, minimalist composition, and classic ambient music. Following his recovery and touring with Foxwarren, Kissick completed the record with the help of those closest to him. His brother and Foxwarren bandmate Avery Kissick contributed drums and arrangement ideas, while Saskatchewan musicians Jakob Bjornson added double bass and Ian Cameron contributed pedal steel. The album's striking cover artwork, created by his sister Emily Hamilton, depicts a skull pasted onto a beautiful sky—a fitting visual metaphor for the existential anxiety that inspired these recordings.

Strut proudly presents the first release in almost a decade from the legendary Senegalese group Orchestra Baobab with Made In Senegal. Few groups embody the spirit of African music like Orchestra Baobab. Formed over 50 years ago as the resident band of the Baobab Club in Dakar, their timeless fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms, Wolof griot traditions, mbalax, Congolese rumba and jazz continues to resonate across generations and continents. Now, the celebrated big band marks a new chapter in their illustrious history with Made in Senegal, their first new studio album since Tribute To Ndiouga Dieng in 2017 for World Circuit. Released on respected imprint Strut Records in conjunction with Madoky Music, the new album celebrates home, heritage, love and resilience and was recorded entirely in Dakar. Undeterred by the passing of several key founding members over the past decade, the orchestra has evolved organically, with sons, nephews and longtime collaborators carrying the legacy forward. Today’s line-up blends veteran musicians with a younger generation determined to preserve Baobab’s enduring sound. Long-time members Thierno Koité (saxophone / bandleader), Taga Koité (drums) master percussionist Moussa Cissokho and Yahya Fall (rhythm guitar) are joined by lead vocalists Zacharia “Papino” Koité and Korka Dieng (the band’s first female frontwoman), bassist Malick Sy, guitarist René “Bolero” Sowatche, and saxophonist/trombonist Wilfrid Zinzou, continuing the orchestra’s tradition with discipline, warmth and unmistakable groove. On Made In Senegal new songs sit effortlessly beside re-imagined classics. Lead single ‘Togne Bakhoul’, composed by late Baobab vocalist Rudy Gomis is a poignant ode to his wife and ‘Tioro Bye Samba’ reprises a classic Thione Seck song while ‘Casamance’ celebrates the culturally rich Southern Senegalese region, homeland of several Baobab members. ‘Baobab 50 Ans’ marks the 50year anniversary of this indomitable group. Made In Senegal is another modern Baobab classic combining a fresh approach with roots fixed firmly in Senegal’s rich traditions. The Cat’s Miaow started in 1992 as a home-recording duo, Bart Cummings and Andrew Withycombe knocking out songs on Withycombe’s four-track. Soon joined by Kerrie Bolton and Cam Smith, the quartet spent the next five years quietly, slowly working away in the suburbs of Melbourne. They’ve long been spoken-of in hushed tones in pop circles for their perfectly unadorned nuggets of gentle indiepop mastery, put to 4-track tape and drip-fed to the world a few decades back via 7” singles, cassettes and compilation appearances. Following a pair of recent and very well-received compilations on the excellent World of Echo label, The Cat’s Miaow were inspired to regroup to play some shows and begin working on new material. The result is When You Smiled And Turned Away, remarkably the band's debut studio album and happily some of their finest recordings yet. All the hallmarks of the band’s classic sound remain intact: a fragile, warm melancholia built around Bart and Andrew's elegant, spare songwriting, the exuberant patter of Cam’s brushed drums and the glow of Kerrie’s celestial soprano vocal. µ-Ziq’s Tango N'Vectif was released in 1993, a classic year for auteurist electronic music that didn't always fit on the dancefloor. Written by Mike Paradinas in his late teens with some help from Frank Naughton, it still stands up really well today and its influence on electronic music in the decades since is obvious. Across an expanse of ideas, taking influences from early Aphex, Detroit Techno and UK Hardcore, Mike created this spirited, funky, jerry-rigged, lo-fi version of rave; with crunchy drums and a knack for melody that fell somewhere between John Barry and classic TV themes. Without owning a computer, Mike had been writing techno, house and industrial tracks on and off since 1990, playing live keys alongside drum machine rhythms on his 4-track recorder. µ-Ziq started when Mike linked up with Frank who was also writing dance-influenced music, and importantly owned an Atari 1040ST computer with Cubeat software. They pooled their equipment and Mike would travel up to Frank's house a couple of miles away in Wimbledon to record together. By 1992, and after a false start when a proposed EP for Mark Pritchard and Tom Middleton's Evolution label got shelved, Mike had started at Kingston University where he deejayed and met likeminded people including a couple of guys who knew Aphex Twin who was also a student at Kingston too, and they passed Aphex a demo of Mike's material. A few days later Mike got a message from his mum to ‘call Aphex Twin’ and he gave Mike some advice, and seemed interested in releasing something. So when Frank and his family went on holiday that summer Mike borrowed his Atari and synths and wrote the majority of the Tango N’Vectif album during that 2 weeks. By the end of 1992 a release with Aphex Twin and Grant Wilson Claridge’s Rephlex label had been agreed - Aphex had moved to the house in Clissold Crescent where he recorded a lot of his early classic albums and Mike went over to collect his advance, in the form of his very own Atari computer The 2LP is the original 1993 Rephlex vinyl album, completely remastered from DATs by Beau Thomas, with the original artwork, and photography by Richard James. Mancunian powerhouse Agbeko (U.K.) have been erupting dancefloors across Europe since 2016. U.K. festival stalwarts - from Green Man, Boomtown and Kendal Calling to Manchester International Festival and Manchester Jazz Festival - Agbeko’s fearless musical spirit has equally seen them build a following overseas: recent debut shows in Spain followed on from Dauphine Jazz Festival (Paris), Linecheck Festival (Milan), Malta International Arts Festival, Meadows In The Mountains (Bulgaria), Kulturverein Beserlpark (Austria) and Soundwave (Croatia). They opened WOMEX 24 at The Bridgewater Hall representing their hometown, Manchester. When the People Say, the latest album from Agbeko, is due for worldwide release on 23 October 2026, following the band's summer launch tour in support of the album's lead single, ‘Know How’. This builds upon their post-pandemic comeback record There Must Be Another Way: released and toured in 2023 to critical acclaim internationally. Need Nobody embodies the soulsearcher in us all, Mali Hayes dreamily vocalising internal questions and doubts before bursting through the clouds in defiant self-affirmation: “I need nobody to tell me so”. Sumptuous highlife horns follow, leading us to a euphoric singalong in a joyous sprint to the finish. Agbeko’s knack for combining revelry with righteous anger is on full display with 2026’s final single Work It All Out. A unison-horn-section fanfare soon slides into a swaggering groove with batteringram trumpet and saxophone solos, before Amber Kuti’s authoritative vocal cries out to a world sleepwalking towards the brink. The now divided horn section spit at one another across a band at full pelt before a defiant wall of voices layer up the closing mantra: “what you gonna do when the people say no?”.

Docile Bodies Rest
Docile Bodies are the Tilburg postpunk quartet of Sjoerd Aarden, Tadzio van Bel, Hans Diks, and Merl van der Markt, and “Rest” — their sophomore full-length for à La Carte Records, out October 23 — is the kind of record that sounds like it was written in the empty hours of someone else’s house. Following 2024’s “Light Will Come Our Way” and a run of festival appearances across the Netherlands (Best Kept Secret, Here’s the Thing, Geleen Calling, among others), the band returns with eight tracks that trade the catharsis of their debut for something slower, harder to console, and unwilling to resolve. “Rest” takes its title as a deceptive promise. The record’s central observation is that whatever the word suggests — stillness, repose, the body unguarded — keeps slipping somewhere else: into emptied rooms, fractured belief systems, the soft furniture of childhood reconfigured as echo. Aarden’s lyrics walk through this terrain without trying to organize it, and the band’s arrangements follow — willing to hold a chord or a line until it starts to ache. The record, in the band’s own words, “listens closely to grief, not to explain it, but to sit quietly beside it.” There’s clear lineage — the chilled architectures of Joy Division, the bluntforce lyric writing of Iceage, the way both bands use restraint as a kind of slow-release intensity — but “Rest” Genres: Post-punk RIYL:Joy Division, Eagulls, Iceage
sounds less like homage than like the band finally settling into a register they had been circling. Lights flicker, rituals fail, tenderness and quiet rage share the same room without resolving each other. The six-minute opener “Bliss,” the bruised stillness of “Silver Glow,” and the album’s mid-record turn “Open” demonstrate a band who’ve gotten more confident as they’ve gotten quieter. The album was produced and mixed by Wessel van den Broek and mastered by Wessel Oltheten, both of whom give the record a textural specificity — drums that feel close enough to count, guitars and synths that breathe between phrases rather than over each other. The brainchild of Daniel Foggin, Smote has evolved seemingly of its own volition. ”I had the idea for years” he relates, “I love Pärson Sound, Träd, Gräs Och Stenar, Traditional Irish Folk and all sorts of different Drone and Folk music. It was simply finding the opportunity to sit down and get recording. A very heavy influence that affects Smote is fantasy as a genre, and the atmosphere that can be created via storytelling.” The musical approach of Smote may have started out as a resolutely DIY one, yet from the humble origins of bedroom and rehearsal room recordings, the band has now become a full-fledged and powerful live band, whose appearances at festivals like Roadburn, Le Guess Who and Brave Exhibitions have already caused a considerable stir. Ever since Blinded by Oblivion (prod. Ty Segall) knocked listeners out back in ‘23, the band have spent their meantime on Chi’s Northwest side looking for fresh shocks and patterns in sound, absorbing, taping and generally writing on the reg. These drafting sessions yielded an exciting new openness, in no small part due to the extensive touring they'd done together all across the U.S.A. and Europe. Fittingly, in August of ‘25, fresh off an East Coast run featuring new songs in the set, they went into Electrical Audio with Cooper Crain to begin laying things down. Working the songs live before recording them was a fresh approach, and the results find the group at the zenith of engagement. Brett and Jeremy's guitar/bass dialogue is righteously organized and dynamic. They complement each other’s space in the company of Josh, whose percussive passions align perfectly with the electric rhythms that have historically provided the Axis: undercurrent. Shifting the focus away from the metronome and towards rhythmic flexibility allowed them to play with increased freedom of choice, making for a visceral pull and elegant bloom in the songs and sounds they created. After mixing at Crain's Sweat Loge studio in January, 2026, the Flowerage bouquet was fully dialed in — energetic and IN COLOR. Earworm hooks amid phased/fuzzed guitars remain paramount, and the first three songs set the tone. "Blow Up" builds out a garage riff in iced-rock supreme. The chorus, a staccato chant: "No flash, no flash! Photography! Trigger, trigger! Warning, Warning!" sets the band off on a tight wire, flashing exquisite electric guitar settings to rival later-Zep (if they were on Factory Records?) on a nice pair of mighty breaks. “Fictional Autonomy” ("...all across the U.S.A.") gives the lie on certain sociopolitical aspects at hand, one in which the dark energies of this whole cursed burial ground are the radiant background to its motor-headed voodoo. On "Fever Days", Sova's vox walk through fire with determination, a jig-saw of guitars, blaring snare, and slithering bass paving the way. Flowerage finds Axis: Sova discovering anew that their blood-threaded rock spawn can help reverse-engineer a grounded and intentional existence—one that processes and perseveres amidst the chaos of the world. Refracting the internal/external experience and aligning the 'within' with the 'without,' it makes NOISE to overpower 'the noise'. Urgent and weird, Flowerage is soul music: the mental and the physical, growth and change, a tradition and a calling. What else are bands for?

The date was May 10th, 2025: a warm spring day in Philadelphia, and a damned hot night over at Bainbridge and 6th. Inside the Pageant Soloveev gallery an evening of music presented by Open Mouth Records was escalating fast. Sharing the bill were Strapping Fieldhands’ Jacy Webster (a rare live appearance!), living legend Roger Clark Miller (Mission of Burma 5eva!) and, right in the goddamn middle, Body/ Head’s Bill Nace + Purling Hiss’ Mike Polizze faced off in a taishogoto/guitar duo for the very first time. Fortunately Mike had the presence of mind to press record on his phone just as they took the stage, allowing their encounter to transcend fallible human memory; now your ears will tell you all you need to remember. “Live at Pageant” boils up quick and persists, an apodictic essay of amplified free string playing. Once plugged in, the two men are off to the races, with barely breath taken nor quarter given. Inspired into a state of mutual mutation, Bill + Mike take it to the limit, flying through phases of post-Brancan atonal fury and post-Hendrixian bluewailing, full on sprays of napalm and neon plus decibels. Both men’s mastery of tone and waveform on their instruments sprawl together mindfully, trading leads and sheets of electrified harmonics back and forth. It’s a dense clash of frequencies in converse, unfolding continuously for twenty-three minutes, the decibels bisecting and diffracting around the room and into the phone. Crying, raging, droning, lunging, grunging up into an evil, screaming little ball — all the colors of the noise rainbow woven aloft, alive in the Philly night. This was only the beginning too. They’ve kept on a-giggin’, so be sure to leave some room for Bill Nace + Mike Polizze on your next list of fave stringed noisemakers.

On Halloween night, October 31, 2000, Widespread Panic took the Austin City Limits stage for one of the most cherished performances in the band’s history. It’s the classic lineup at full strength — John Bell, Dave Schools, John “JoJo” Hermann, Todd Nance, and Domingo “Sunny” Ortiz — anchored by founding guitarist Michael Houser, whose playing that night stands as one of the great documents of Standard LP his career. Houser passed away less than two years later, and this set has only grown more essential with time: a rare, fully-captured Sel. #: NW7084LP glimpse of the guitarist and songwriter whose nickname gave the CONFIG: 2xLP, New Artwork and Packaging, Gatefold, Marketing Sticker, Standard Black Vinyl band its name. The show opens with Vic Chesnutt’s “Let’s Get Down to Business” before tearing into “Ain’t Life Grand,” “Space Wrangler,” and “Blue Indian.” The centerpiece is the sprawling “Driving Song > Surprise Valley > Driving Song,” a fourteen-plus-minute jam that critics have called the show’s tour de force and one reviewer flatly called “worth the price of the DVD alone.” Eleven tracks in all, capturing Panic at the peak of its improvisational powers in front of a Halloween crowd that matched the band’s energy note for note. This reissue brings the legendary set back with all-new artwork from longtime Panic poster artist JT Lucchesi, whose work has become a fixture of the band’s visual identity for over a decade. There is no grand, overarching storyline to Save As, the second solo album from Elena Tonra’s Ex:Re project. Rather, the album – produced by Fabian Prynn and also featuring Josephine Stephenson on cello, Hinako Omori on synthesisers, Ben Reed on bass and Jethro Fox on electric guitar – is the latest in the Daughter lead singer’s catalogue of expert chronicles of the gnawing minutiae of human consciousness: the overthinking that consumes us, and the places we travel to escape. The title of album opener “Radio Station”, which begins with stately strummed acoustic guitar and morphs into a trippy song about an endless California roadtrip, is a metaphor for how Tonra feels about her mind. “I end up getting stuck because I can’t make decisions,” she says. Demo recordings live on in many of the final cuts, as on “Sleep”, which Tonra first recorded in a hotel room in Paris. The final version features a melodic loop made from the demo’s acoustic guitar run through a vocoder and a drum machine, which together offer a muffled quality to the sound, like hearing a party through a wall. Other tracks, such as the stand-out “Am I Even Real?”, a Tonra-Prynn duet on which Tonra sings about spaceships to ask whether she is being true to herself in a relationship, found their true version in the studio. That combination of long-held ideas stored in notebooks and on laptops with unfiltered first thoughts and improvisations is key to the album’s perfect mingling of liveliness and deep thoughtfulness.

OVERVIEW: Los Angeles-based producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Dexter Story returns with his sixth album, T'som (pronounced sawm), a deeply personal work inspired by the spiritual practice of fasting. Meaning "fasting" in the Afro-Semitic languages Tigrinya and Amharic, as well as in Arabic, Tsom represents a time of prayer, reflection and discipline across northeast Africa. Guided by this tradition, Story draws on the musical heritage of the Horn of Africa and musical traditions of the Middle East to create a spiritual jazz album that reflects on devotion, transformation and the power of letting go. Krismasi: Christmas Songs From Africa 1968-1982 It’s that time of year again! Are your copies of “Now! That’s What I Call Christmas” and “A Motown Christmas” finally feeling worn out? Strut has the ideal antidote this year, as we dive into the world of festive records made by African artists spanning the late 1960s to the 1980s with our new Krismasi: Christmas Sounds From Africa compilation. Taking in music from across the continent from Nigeria and Ghana to South Africa and Zimbabwe, Krismasi draws from a wide range of sounds from fun novelty records and spur-of-the-moment jams to spiritual and gospel favourites. Featured artists include Ghanian great Kwadwo Donkoh with a meditative highlife praise song from his much-loved Christmas Africana album. Elsewhere, pop star turned pastor, Jerry Boifraind, has some fun with a song celebrating seeing friends at Christmas and Nigerian pop favourite Martha Ulaeto features with the lilting lead track from her own Christmas Africana release. We pick out some choice Central and East African sounds with Kakai Kilonzo’s brilliant Kilimambogo Brothers Band and Congolese legend Baba Gaston’s Orchestra Baba National capturing the joy of the festive season. We stop off in Zim for a rare Dorothy Masuka acoustic piece and one of the country’s great musicians post-independence, Paul “Dr. Love” Matavire with ‘Christmas Yaswedera’ (‘Christmas Is Near’). Township jazz star Reggie Msomi appears with a joyous township instrumental and, finally, we couldn’t release a Christmas collection without some carols. Here we include here a great version of ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ by UK-based Nigerian highlife musician Flash Domincii and a hi-octane funky medley of favourite festive hymns by Ghana’s Oscar Sulley. The compilation is the first in-depth collection of rare African Christmas recordings, uncovering a rich and often overlooked chapter of the continent's musical history. Who’s Watching (Official Motion Picture Soundtrack) Music by TIM KASHER · Score & Songs from the Motion Picture The original motion picture soundtrack for Tim Kasherʼs (Cursive, The Good Life) new directorial effort Whoʼs Watching–set to arrive in select theaters and on digital platforms on September 18, 2026, via Dark Sky Films–will be released on October 30, 2026, via 15 Passenger Records. The 13-song collection is split into a side A that contains songs by Toxic Cock Syndrome and a side B that holds the score by Kasher, as well as a new Cursive song, “Wounded Animal.ˮ Just WHO is Toxic Cock Syndrome? A metal “bandˮ featured prominently throughout the film: Caleb Sampson (played by Zachary Ray Sherman) on bass, Chris (played by Radkeyʼs Darrion Lewis) on guitar/vocals, and Tony (played by Radkeyʼs Isaiah Radke) on drums. Their intentionally odd, aggressive, and immature songs serve as a window into the disturbed protagonist of the film–a darkly humorous and unsettling psychological horror thriller about the male gaze that subverts both stalker and found footage tropes. In reality, Toxic Cock Syndromeʼs songs were performed by: Kasher (guitar/backing vocals), Radke (vocals), Lewis (guitar), Jonah Ray (drums), and Josh Ethier (bass). The five instrumentals of the score, meanwhile, are eerie, evocative, and at times even strangely beautiful. It all culminates with “Wounded Animal,ˮ Cursiveʼs first new music since their 2024 album Devourer (Run For Cover Records); taut and simmering, the song plays over the filmʼs closing credits, slowly intensifying into a cathartic, soaring conclusion.

Skewed pop and colorful acid-punk form the heart of Clinic's music - pumped by piping keyboards, guitars, bursts of melodica and rickety percussion – but the Liverpool duo of Blackburn and fellow multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Hartley are forever alive to fresh ideas. “Something we’ve got into more recently is exotica,” explains Blackburn, “especially the colorful percussion. People like Martin Denny and Les Baxter. Some of that stuff is amazing. For what was often considered easy listening music, it has some very strange undercurrents. We’ve also been listening to dub reggae and things like Cabaret Voltaire. And a lot of early rock‘n’roll, for that immediacy. For many of these songs, we wanted an extra sense of propulsion, so we’d sometimes take out a whole verse to push it along.” Indeed, most songs on Wild In The Streets dip under three minutes, and the record throws up surprises on a regular basis. Never ones to take themselves too seriously, Clinic partly envisaged infectiously wonky lead single “You And I” as a sardonic commentary on their chosen profession. “There's no business like showbusiness like no business I know,” sings Hartley with an impish wink. The performative theme is echoed in the vampy, disorienting “Well Wisher”, with its references to spotlights, laser beams and jumping aboard the merry-go-round. Elsewhere, the title track offers a vivid portrait of youthful days in suburbia, a feral existence filtered through personal recollection whilst, the dynamic “Back To Nature” is an allusive discourse on modern-day protest action. Nearly 30 years since they first founded Clinic as a quartet, Blackburn and Hartley’s chemistry remains as potent as it ever was, perhaps even more so. “We’ve known each other since school,” says Blackburn. “Hartley was always interested in electronics and drum machines, even as a teenager. He’s into rhythms, whether it’s reggae and funk or more conventional guitar music, whereas I was always into songs and melodies. I think that's why Clinic works so well.” Wild In The Streets is now set to take its place beside past triumphs like 2000’s Internal Wrangler, 2006’s Visitations and 2012’s Free Reign. “We’ve always had this absolute faith in what we do,” Blackburn adds. “It’s relatively outsider-ish music, but that’s something that’s motivated us to keep going, because it’s good to have things that are a little out on the fringes. There’s just not enough of that kind of music these days.”

Trappings of Sleep brings Caroline Davis, Grey Mcmurray, and Qasim Naqvi together in a deeply immersive meeting of alto saxophone, guitar, electronics, and drums. Moving between intimacy and intensity, the trio explores connection and the spaces between sound and silence, allowing each instrument to respond to and reshape the others in real time. The title contains its own paradox. Despite implications of captivity, sleep remains the oldest technology of escape, a private cosmos into which the mind launches itself without engines. These pieces treat dreaming as space travel. They drift and listen, searching for life elsewhere only to find habitable zones inside the relational field of their instruments. Dave Angel - A Time And Place British electronic music pioneer Dave Angel returns to R&S Records with “A Time And Place”, his first full-length album release for the seminal Belgian label. Arriving thirty-five years after Dave first joined the R&S family, the album reunites one of UK techno's defining voices with the imprint that helped launch his career, renewing one of electronic music's most enduring creative partnerships. That relationship began in 1991, when R&S founder Renaat Vandepapeliere discovered Angel's ‘Rolling Thunder’ project and invited the young London producer to Belgium. Personally welcoming him into the R&S family alongside a new generation of forward-thinking electronic artists, Vandepapeliere released the landmark “1st Voyage” EP, helping establish Dave Angel as one of British techno's most distinctive new voices. A succession of acclaimed releases followed, including “Stairway To Heaven”, “3rd Voyage”, appearances on the influential “In Order To Dance’” compilation series, and releases on sister imprint Apollo, charting an artistic partnership that helped shape both Angel's career and the wider evolution of UK techno. Three and a half decades later, “A Time And Place” feels less like a return than the continuation of a conversation left unfinished. Rather than revisiting former achievements, the album reflects the perspective of an artist whose creative journey has continued to evolve. Reconnecting with the label that first championed his work, Angel delivers his most personal and musically expansive statement to date. Across fifteen compositions, “A Time And Place” reaches beyond the conventions of techno to reveal the full breadth of Angel's musical identity. Drawing on jazz, soul, improvisation and richly textured electronic production, the album balances rhythmic precision with warmth, melody and emotional depth. Reflections on family, heritage, nature and the communities that have shaped his life sit alongside broader observations of the world around him, creating a body of work that feels both intimate and expansive. That openness is reflected in a carefully chosen cast of collaborators. Celebrated trumpeter Steve Waterman features on both “Réflexion” and “The Yellow Butterfly”, bringing a lyrical, Miles Davis-inspired voice to the album after first catching Angel's attention through his work on Paul Hazel's “Out Of This World”. Elsewhere, legendary Chicago vocalist Robert Owens appears on “Harmony Serenade”, while guitarist Merv Carswell and vocalist Aurii Sky (Dave’s daughter, adding a poignant family connection) add further colour and texture to a record rooted in musicianship and shared expression. While Dave Angel's influence on British electronic music has long been established, “A Time And Place” reveals another dimension of an artist whose foundations were laid long before techno. Raised in a household immersed in live music and jazz culture, Angel has spent a lifetime absorbing sounds beyond the club, allowing those influences to surface naturally throughout a career defined by curiosity rather than convention. For R&S Records, the album renews a relationship that stretches back to the label's formative years. For Dave Angel, it reflects both the path travelled and the road ahead. Duck. Little Brother, Duck!’s second and final full-length, Don’t Take Our Filth Away, explores numerous strains of underground rock fauna throughout its 45-minute runtime. Over the course of ten tracks, the Portland, Oregon fourpiece tease apart fragments of math rock, emo, noise rock, and screamo, recombining them into a knotted, vibrant evolution from their sprawling 15-song debut Survival Is Not a Workout. Guitars converse with one another in the stereo field, stopping on a dime as if to change the subject, and then squeal with feedback into downtrodden passages that spontaneously erupt with euphoric abandon and introspective complexity. Vocals alternate between prominent gangsung wails and buried-in-the-mix screams, constantly shifting the contours of the band’s already serpentine writing style. Although the band’s final albumlength statement, Don’t Take Our Filth Away’s densely arranged, erratic compositions provide ample paths to lose oneself, and keep returning for years to come.

The year is 2008. Steve Gunn was experiencing the itch to start working on material under his own name after having spent the last several years playing in and around Philadelphia and Brooklyn in collaborative projects such as GHQ. He had recorded some experimental CDRs on his own under the moniker Moongang before branching out in 2007 to placing the name “Steve Gunn” on titles for the first time. The first couple of releases displayed an immediate leap in his songwriting and confidence. His growth as a solo artist seemed to meet the use of his name head on with a burst of creativity. Nowhere was this growth more visible than with the 2008 title “Sundowner”. The album’s first iteration was released on CD by Digitalis Recordings. Not only was it the first Gunn title to have a release on a non-recordable media, but it was his widest release to date. Gone were the days of micro-editions. Now folks from far and wide could get deeply into what Steve was working on and the spells he was weaving. Jump forward a couple of years to 2010. Gunn had released his widely acclaimed “Boerum Palace” the year prior, a title which amplified the spotlight on both his craft and his place within the broader new weird America scene. Venerable Asheville institution Harvest Records couldn’t shake the ghostly majesty of “Sundowner” and reached out to him to see if they could do a vinyl edition on their then-new label imprint. Steve obliged the request but felt that he could lay down “better” versions of half of the album’s tracks. He re-recorded these tracks, paired them with a few of the originals and that became the album’s vinyl edition. Without formal distribution but sold through Harvest’s webstore and by Steve at shows, this one was for the true heads in the know. Jump one more to 2026. This missive is being written in connection with a current vinyl and CD reissue of “Sundowner” by Three Lobed Recordings, the title’s first widely distributed version. Eighteen years removed from its original release, what is it that keeps bringing folks back to this title time and time again? The answer is simple – the songs and the performances. You have Gunn-specific guitar workouts like “No Atlas” and “Concrete Beach”. You have haunting vocal turns like “For the Horse, Etc.”, “Money Train Blues” and a gorgeous take on John Martyn’s “Over The Hill”. This is the album where Jack Rose told Steve he needed to keep putting out material in this vein. Ask anyone who knows it and they will all tell you that this album is both timeless and has earned the legend. Strains of The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Tears for Fears, and even The Beatles abound. Hegna’s emotive baritone is swathed in period-perfect Prophet-5 synthesizers and glistening counter-melody guitars lines, and supported by intricate but lyrical basslines and cold and mechanical drums. The lyrics are veiled, visceral, and abstract, yet peppered with shard’s of truth from Hegna’s life and his observations. They reflect a modern world where reality itself feels increasingly tenuous, truth is subjective, communities are shattered by irreconcilable division, and a collective malaise hangs in the air. In this dystopia, if love is merely another lie, it suggests a bleak outlook for our future; essentially, the title is a fancy way of saying that “We Are All Fucked.” Love & Other Lies picks up where it’s previous album, Reverb & Seduction, left off. That album was a radical departure from Federale’s previous releases which featured mostly instrumentals. “There are a lot more similarities than you think,” he says of the group’s seemingly two distinct aesthetic periods. “When we were referencing the obscure influences, we liked the drama and darkness. Those elements are in new wave, goth, and post-punk. I just grabbed another couple of colors from the Crayon box.” The pressured atmosphere of writing didn’t allow for the grand overarching concepts and intricate orchestrations signature to Federale’s past records, making Love & Other Lies much more immediate and spontaneous. It unfolds like a high-speed midnight road trip, shadowing a narrator desperate to outrun the vices and violence of his past, melding Hegna’s penchant for immersive atmospherics with his love of classic song craft. “My favorite band is The Beatles, and I studied their music immensely. I love a good song and a good hook. You can hear that with The Cure, even their dark stuff was catchy,” Hegna says.

Shika Shika presents the fifth volume in their Guide to the Birdsong series, this time taking the song of endangered birds to the dancefloor. This new chapter of the long-running project that works with renowned artists and producers to turn endangered birdsong into music. This time, tracks from previous Birdsong albums are reimagined by a global line-up of forward-thinking electronic artists, including Auntie Flo, Photay, Matias Aguayo, Yosi Horikawa, Tayhana and El Búho, transforming the calls, rhythms and atmospheres of threatened bird species into a new remix album. The idea is simple and unique: take music made from and inspired by the songs of endangered birds, and invite some of the most distinctive voices in contemporary electronic music to reinterpret it. The result is a record that moves between experimental club music, organic electronica, Latin American underground sounds, downtempo, fieldrecording-led production and global dance music, all rooted in the natural world. Across its previous editions, from South America, Mexico, Central America, Western Africa and Migration, A Guide to the Birdsong has raised almost $100,000 USD for on-the-ground bird conservation, while introducing listeners to some of the world’s most threatened bird species through music. The project uses these incredible species and incredible music to raise awareness about the plight of the natural world.
Shika Shika is a label for music without borders. The label was founded in 2015 between Berlin, Mexico City, Buenos Aires and Paris to give a platform to emerging artsts from around the world, focussing on artists exploring global folk roots, organic sounds and electronica. Since then, the label has released music from over 90 artists from 30 countries, including 36 digital and +15 vinyl releases. Roky Erickson – The Evil One
The seminal psych-rock classic The Evil One by Roky Erickson And The Aliens is reissued by Fire Records in a deluxe 15-track edition, restoring the original front cover from San Francisco’s 415 Records release for the first time since 1981. Presented across two LPs cut at 45 rpm for maximum sonic depth and clarity, the release brings together the complete recordings from the legendary 1978 and 1979 sessions. The package includes a collector’s booklet with liner notes by acclaimed Austin music journalist Joe Nick Patoski, who attended a recording session for The Evil One in 1979. Alongside rare photographs and archival images from the collection of Roky’s then manager, Craig Luckin.
Following his release from Rusk State Hospital in 1974, Erickson formed The Aliens and channelled his experiences and fascination with horror and science fiction into a singular new sound. Moving beyond the psychedelic garage blues of the 13th Floor Elevators, the band created harder, more ferocious rock built around jagged guitars, strange melodies and a propulsive rhythm section.

Produced by Creedence Clearwater Revival bassist Stu Cook, The Evil One includes some of Erickson’s most celebrated recordings, including ‘Two Headed Dog’, ‘I Walked With A Zombie’ and ‘It’s A Cold Night For Alligators’. Erickson’s unmistakable voice and surreal lyrics, populated by zombies, demons, vampires and atomic monsters, gave the album a character unlike anything else in rock. Both the LP and CD editions feature rare photographs and images from the archive of Erickson’s then manager and the sessions’ executive producer, Craig Luckin.
The Evil One has since become a landmark of cult rock, with its songs covered by generations of artists and its influence extending across punk, alternative and psychedelic music. As Craig Luckin recalls, “Roky considers The Evil One to be his favourite album that he ever recorded. He really loves that album.”

It’s hard to fathom Martin Bramah’s trajectory from his beginnings as a guitarist/writer behind two crazily influential postpunk albums - The Fall’s Live At The Witch Trials and Blue Orchids’ The Greatest Hit (Money Mountain) (vocalist on the latter too, of course) - then nearly three decades of sporadic-at-best activity, offering releases just frequently enough to remind fans of his peculiar brilliance . . . before another stay in the void. Chalk it up to what you want - Mark E. Smith’s utter usurpation of The Fall, his split from partner Una Baines after Blue Orchids’ debut, the vague collapse of rash experimentation in ‘underground’ music as early ‘80s nu-pop and American college rock diluted any real spirit, a few failed attempts at working with with Mark again . . . and maybe just life getting in the way. A sense of lost opportunities isn’t tough to justify. Inasmuch as Martin was originally the singer for The Fall - Mark began as guitarist but couldn’t play! - and given that the group’s mythology was born in an era before that gang of Mancunian misfits had even thought of playing, it’s high irony that 49 years after The Fall began, Martin has both become wildly prolific and the leader of a band with more rights of inheritance to The Fall’s credibility than any other living person could justify . . .yet the band isn’t remarkable for that as it is for the range and wealth extent of their collective powers and talent: two great and original guitarists, three of the UK’s most daringly-skilled drummers, a genuine bass legend, and a brilliant spare Blue Orchid guitarist. Within the broad church of metal and its many offshoots – rock, doom, stoner and all the rest – it remains a minor thrill to stumble across a group who seem to exist at a slight tangent to everything else. Crumbling Ghost is one such anomaly. Crumbling Ghost are not newcomers. They've been operating for some time, releasing records sporadically, Four' is in fact their fourth release. Along the way they've accumulated a fervent coterie of followers, not to mention the occasional nod of approval from tastemakers such as Stuart Maconie, Stewart Lee and Tom Ravenscroft. And though they've appeared at Roadburn, shared stages with Hawkwind and even Damo Suzuki, they remain (possibly by design) curiously under the radar. The group's core idea is deceptively simple: traditional folk material refracted through the haze and heft of heavy, fuzzy stoner rock with a chunk of psyche and a smattering of doom. But crucially, this is done without the costumery and theatrical tics that often accompany such collisions. No mock pagan pageantry, no graveyard cosplay, no cartoon Satanism. What Crumbling Ghost latch onto is not folk as a museum piece, but as a lived experience, the dramas rooted in the culture, stories, and daily lives of ordinary people, the folklore, the tales of love and death, murder and adultery, freedom and oppression. Who do we play with when the sandbox has no edge? The fifth album from Saint Abdullah & Eomac began as a poem and became a record that refuses to stay in one place. The title arrived in a cab in Paris. Mohammad Mehrabani read it aloud from a list of options. Ian McDonnell said: that's interesting, what does that mean? The answer, it turned out, was the album. Saint Abdullah, the project Mehrabani formed with his brother Mehdi in 2016, has always operated in the space where sound does what language and data cannot. Not protest music in any conventional sense, but music built on the conviction that a three-minute composition can reach places no statistic or body count ever will. Since 2020, Eomac, the Irish producer and composer based in Wicklow, has been central to that project. Together they have released four albums; Patience of a Traitor, Chasing Stateless, Light Meteors Crashing Around You Will Not Confuse You and Of No Fixed Abode. The record is rooted in hip hop, but its cast tells you how far it travels. Abbas Zahedi, Richie Culver, and Armand Hammer contribute vocals and poetry. Lester St. Louis brings cello. Che Chen of 75 Dollar Bill brings guitar. The producer and sound designer Seraphim contributed textures and sound designs throughout. Samples run deep, from records pulled from charity shops to market stalls on road trips across the UK. Most of the source material was made in 2024 and 2025, when Mohammad moved to London and he and Ian could work more closely together. There was no studio. Mehrabani set up in his daughter Yara's bedroom with two Roland SP-404s and a stack of Seraphim's sound designs, and worked until the machines had nothing left to give. The constraints were the point. The limited setup forced invention, new techniques, a kind of urgency that bled into the music. What emerged from those sessions would travel to Wicklow, where McDonnell shaped raw fragments into fully formed compositions, structuring the chaos without flattening it. The artwork, by Iranian-born artist and architect Elham Goodarzi, extends the album's logic into visual space. Since 2023, Goodarzi has been manipulating archival photographs of Middle Eastern architecture, some dating back to 1915, taken by European photographers travelling through Iran, Syria, Iraq, and Palestine. She layers, erases, repositions, and layers again, producing structures that feel like they belong to an architectural movement lost somewhere between history and the future. The buildings are recognisable but impossible. They look like ruins that haven't happened yet. Frozen in a state of change, as Goodarzi describes them. The sandbox, rendered without an edge.
Cure For Youth Synthetic World Cure For Youth are the LA post-punk quartet of Scott Savarie (vocals, bass), Catarina Teles (synth, vocals), Connor McKenna (guitar), and Nicolas Sturz (drums), and “Synthetic World” — their debut LP for à La Carte Records, out October 30 — is the sound of a band closing the gap between what they grew up playing and where they’ve been heading. Twelve songs, thirtyfive minutes, no fat: hook-heavy postpunk pressed through enough reverb, chorus, and delay to widen the room without losing the snap of musicians who learned their phrasing in the pit. Savarie and Teles started Cure For Youth in Los Angeles in 2024, and the band built itself out across two EPs that took early-80s post-punk and ran it through the propulsion of people who came up playing hardcore. “Synthetic World” is the most focused articulation of that combination yet — the record where Cure For Youth finally had enough time, conviction, and material to deliver on what the early singles only suggested. The lineage shows. The album moves like Joy Division at its sharpest and

lands like Ceremony or The Men once those bands worked out what to do with their tempos: songs that know how to slow down without losing tension and how to speed up without losing the melody. Reverb, chorus, and delay coat the arrangements without obscuring them — you can hear every member working, and you can hear what the band sounds like in the same room. Thematically, “Synthetic World” sits in the present tense. The lyrics work over what feels like a permanent low hum of absurdity — modern life as a problem of attention, loss as the thing that arrives without permission, the political weight that any honest record made now has to carry without flattening into commentary. Recorded and mixed by Alex Jacobelli at Sunsick Studios in LA and mastered by Andrew Oswald, the album sounds close enough to feel personal and roomy enough to feel inevitable.
