I love everything Christmas: decorations,
stories, movies, and of course…music. As we listen to and sing those familiar songs, thoughts and emotions are elicited, memories are resurrected, and we are immersed in the spirit of the season. Composed in nearly every musical style and genre, in almost every language, and derived from just about every ethnic culture, the universality of our faith is revealed in the music of this season and forges a common Christian identity. For a catechist such as myself, Christmas music, with its combination of words and melodies, is the perfect medium for celebration as well as instruction and faith formation.

The author examines several well-known Christmas hymns, dividing them into songs that that tell the Christmas story, songs that lead to reflection, and songs that teach the truths of the faith.
