From the Producer It's been a great pleasure to produce this musical with the support of the talented students, teachers and administration staff of Redeemer Lutheran College. There is a challenge to consistently find a musical with enough valid story, broad humour and message integrity, that the cast can engage and in turn tell the story with all its required quirkiness. The hope is always to entertain and see a little of yourself within the characters. Hello Dolly is the 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' show of the musical world, with New York as the centre piece and with love conquering the parochial folk of Yonkers. Synopsis of Scenes ACT 1 Everyone in Yonkers, New York, turns to professional meddler and matchmaker Dolly Gallagher-Levi for advice on romance, practical matters, and everything else. Dolly, of course, is happy to oblige. The town’s miserly half-a-millionaire Horace Vandergelder, a widowed hay & feed dealer, seeks a second wife and hires Dolly to find him a suitable match. Though she arranges for Horace to meet the young widow Irene Molloy, Dolly develops her own interest in Horace in a bid to move on from her late husband, Ephraim. Meanwhile, a young artist named Ambrose Kemper seeks Dolly’s assistance in acquiring the hand of Vandergelder’s niece, Ermengarde. When Vandergelder leaves Yonkers for New York City to court Mrs Molloy, his clerks, Cornelius Hackl and Barnaby Tucker, decide to take an unauthorised holiday, vowing to find adventure in the big city. They arrive in New York City and, while exploring the sights, spot Vandergelder and unwittingly take refuge in Irene Molloy’s hat shop. Cornelius and Irene are immediately smitten. Dolly sees an opportunity to meddle, ensuring Irene’s assistant Minnie Fay is also partnered with Barnaby. Dinner and dancing is arranged for each of the couples at the lavish Harmonia Gardens restaurant following the Fourteenth Street Parade. To further her position with Vandergelder, Dolly even manages to arrange another date for him with the less-than-refined Miss Ernestina Money (nee Cash).
