Listening posts concerning the Sunday fall schedule Thanks to those of you who have filled out a survey about your family’s Sunday experience since we started back with in-person worship and faith formation! We appreciate the responses. If you haven’t already filled out the survey, please use the link to fill it out. We particularly need more responses from families with children and teens. In addition to the survey, listening posts will be held on June 19 and June 26 following both worship services (approximately 10:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. each week). We’ll discuss preliminary survey results, and in particular, faith formation for various ages and the overlap of faith formation classes and worship services. Faith Formation | Sunday, June 19 High School Sunday School 9:30 am | Youth Lounge Young Adult Small Group 10-10:45 am | Fireside room We will be starting an 8-week series for young adults called "Growing with the Enneagram: Guiding All Types in Spiritual Growth." The enneagram is a personality system that helps us understand how we and others interact in the world. Together, we will explore how we might utilize the enneagram through the lens of our Christian faith to grow toward God and one another. Everyone will purchase their own daily devotional that corresponds with their type.
Week of June 20 Tuesday Morning Bible Study Tuesday | 7:30 am | Rudisill Hall / Link to Join Bible Study returns on Tuesday mornings in Rudisill Hall and via ZOOM. A light breakfast will be available beginning at 7 a.m. and the study beginning at 7:30 a.m until 8:30 a.m. Our study is on The Acts of the Apostles. Everyone is welcome to join us. It's an excellent, and easy-to-read, study of what our textbooks taught us in school and the various parts that were left out. As Jesus said in John 8:32, 'You shall know the truth and
the truth shall set you free'. As we learn more about our own history it can help us to understand the truth and to do the work God calls us to do to be a part of the inbreaking of the kingdom of God all around us! This book study is open to anyone who is interested. Thursday | 7:30 pm | Zoom Link The Tolkien Readers group is coming to the end of a 2.5-year journey through The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings. Within the next week or two, the Shire will be scoured, Frodo will have sailed across the sea, and our group will be changing focus. In our next mighty theme, we will revisit The Silmarillion in an abbreviated fashion. We’ll review the construction of the world, major historical characters, and recurring topics such as life and death, fate, and free will. We’ll then move on to a detailed reading of Unfinished Tales. We hope this will give us a solid basis for appreciation (or criticism) of The Rings of Power series on Amazon Prime which begins in the fall. An important note: the stories and language of The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales are for adults. (Think beautifully written, yet graphic, Oedipus Rex.) The discussion is similarly adult in nature.
