Lutheran Towers 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATING FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER Watch for special temple talks and mark your calendars for Lutheran Towers Sunday on November 13th! Lutheran Towers was first envisioned by our own Reverend Doctor Robert E. Lee in the 1960s. Dr. Lee was senior pastor of Redeemer from 1955 until 1978 and was a principal signatory to the Atlanta’s Ministers’ Manifesto, urging peace as Atlanta struggled with desegregation in 1957. Groundbreaking for Lutheran Towers took place in 1971, and construction was completed a year later. Many exciting new programs began at the Towers in just this past year, including visiting comfort dogs, complimentary dinners on Wednesday, and other food insecurity initiatives like the free grocery story featured on 11 Alive. Lutheran Towers is more than just a roof over the head of our seniors. The money you give goes towards improving their quality of life through food initiatives and bettering the social, intellectual, and emotional welfare of our neighbors. You can help in two ways. First by contributing an item from their wish list. Many of our residents get by on just a few dollars a month and your help can make a huge difference. LCFM THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION A TIME TO SHARE NOV 22 | 10 AM - 12 PM
The Lutheran Community Food Ministry will host its annual “A Time to Share.” This event features a special Thanksgiving meal prepared by Chef Michael, with turkey and all the fixings. In addition, several of our partners including Hope Through Soap will provide showers, grooming, and fresh clothing. We are also expecting a special visit from our Mayor Andre Dickens. Advent devotion writers needed The Advent daily devotions written by members of our congregation have become a treasured tradition at Redeemer. Once again we are asking for volunteers to submit a devotion to be part of the Advent collection.

This line may remind you of the second verse of one of our favorite Christmas hymns inspired by the first chapter of John: O Come, All Ye Faithful: The highest, most holy Light of light eternal, Born of a virgin, a mortal he comes; Son of the Father Now in flesh appearing O Come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord! To help us explore our theme, we ask our writers to reflect on the question, "How has Christ appeared to you?" During this season of the year, how do you experience the closeness of Jesus? Maybe it is through an object you see; a favorite Christmas ornament, or a piece of art. Maybe it's the sight or even the memory of a favorite place. Maybe it is in the kind touch of a loved one's embrace or the grateful smile of someone you have helped. There is really no limit because there is no limit to ways God will use to reach us with divine love and grace.
Specifically: Pick out a favorite Bible verse or passage Offer your reflection Close with a brief prayer or blessing If you want to add a picture or image, please feel free to do so. How you can help to celebrate Christmas for our neighbors and have fun at the same time? By filling a costumed role as a 1st-century Bethlehem citizen the day after Jesus was born. Help our neighbors imagine the wonder of it all! We are in need of shepherds and Pharisees, Wise Men and Centurions, Roman and village officials, carolers and musicians, as well as villagers and helpers for many tasks. y. Our Nativity and Village with live animals and re-enactors amid an inn and stable, artisans’ tents, and period costumed re-enactors has attracted many visitors wanting to experience this greatest gift of all. Christmas Program and Advent Celebration Sunday, December 4, 10:00 am Redeemer Sanctuary Our Children's Christmas Program is back! This year it will be held in the sanctuary at the beginning of our faith formation hour. After the program, there is brunch in the Sims Atrium for the whole congregation and Advent activities for kids and their families. Baptism at Redeemer Greetings! If you or someone you know is expecting a child or interested in baptism at Redeemer at any age, we would love to celebrate this special milestone with your family! We have several dates available. Here are some details: We are returning to our pre-pandemic practice of holding Baptism Festivals. This means certain Sundays are designated for baptisms, and there may be several families celebrating a baptism at the same time. Going forward, if your family would like to request a single family baptism after worship, we will offer those on a case-by-case basis. Please ask! Please inquire for more details on how scheduling works and to get the Baptism registration form.

Why Baptism Festivals? Baptism is a sacrament celebrated in community. While we have done several baptisms after a worship service for safety reasons during the pandemic, it is important that the congregation be part of the baptism liturgy as much as possible. Grouping up baptisms on certain days allows us to use a special liturgy focused on baptism and truly highlight it as a special event, rather than it being a footnote to a service with a different focus. Also, it's fun! It's a great way to get to know other families, and your child will grow up with friends at Redeemer who share their baptism anniversary- a special bond that can follow them throughout life. Family Events November 2022 St. Martin's Day Celebration Saturday, November 12, 4-7 pm Arrive as early as 4 pm at the Fireside room in the Redeemer parking lot to make a lantern and enjoy delicious homemade German food, including fresh waffles (pay per item by cash or card)! Gather at about 5:45 to see the story of St. Martin acted out, including one of our Lutheranch horses coming for the occasion! Then, join the lantern parade, ending in the sanctuary. No RSVP is required. All ages are welcome. Dress for the weather as part of the event is outdoors. What is St. Martin's Day? This traditional German holiday is a celebration of St. Martin of Tours, a Roman soldier who converted to Christianity and became known for humility and generosity in caring for the poor. It's a reminder, as we enter the holiday season, that we are called to see our neighbors in need and share with them; to be the light as the days grow shorter and share warmth as they grow colder.
Christopher's Haven Service Opportunity Choose dates that fit your schedule Christopher's Haven is a non-profit that provides housing for children with cancer and their families while they are in treatment at the Proton Therapy Center just down the street from Redeemer. Goshen Valley Gift Drive November 13- December 11 One of the ways we walk alongside children in foster care is by helping Goshen Valley provide them with Christmas gifts. Each child gets to choose a few things they want for Christmas, and we get to make their Christmas wishes come through by using their Amazon list. It's an easy way to make a big difference for kids in our community! We will also collect some household items for the host parents at the giving gree in Sims Atrium. Stars, Angels, Shepherds, Kings!! Rehearsals Oct. 23, Nov. 6, 13, 27 and December 3 The children's Christmas program is back in person!! We are once again collaborating with the Redeemer Children's Music program to engage all our Sunday School kids in the story of Jesus' birth. Rehearsals will occur during Sunday School in November, with a dress rehearsal Sat., Dec. 3. Participants must be registered for Sunday School, so if you haven't yet, register at this link. MIDDLE SCHOOL MISSION TRIP: BAYOU LA BATRE, AL 10 Youth and 2 Adults attending "Serve the community through simple projects and to provide a safe, Christ-centered place for kids." Service could include: painting, cleaning, helping with yard projects, doing other simple work projects, planning and leading other children's programming, and to meet the needs of the community by building stronger relationships. YouthWorks has partenerd with this community since 1998. We recently attended here in 2006.

HIGH SCHOOL MISSION TRIP: ARECIBO, PUERTO RICO 12 Youth and 2 Adults attending "Follow local leaders and organizations to work towards rebuilding efforts and sustain important community programs. Service could include working with an outreach ministry, a local church, a community farm, or a variety of children's prgrams. Service here is highly relational! We recently attended here in 2019.

6:00 PM Pastor's Class | Rudisill Hall & Zoom As we prepare to journey through Advent with our theme, "Now in Flesh Appearing,", we have to ask, "How does Jesus appear to you?" Is he a friend, a teacher, a savior, the Lord, or something else (or maybe all the above)? In Freeing Jesus, Diana Butler Bass challenges the idea that Jesus can only be understood in static, one-dimensional ways. Please join us on Wednesdays at 6 PM, in person or via Zoom as together, let us rediscover Jesus in all his many manifestations and experience his presence anew, beyond the narrow confines that are often built around him. While reading the book is not required for the discussion, it is available on Amazon for all who might wish to delve deeper into Ms. Bass' insights.
Worship at 7:00 PM Contemplation with the Saints Come join us at 7 PM in the sanctuary or online for a short contemplative service of songs, reflection, and prayer as we commemorate the apostles, martyrs, historical figures, and modern men and women who are the heroes of our faith and whose memorial days are set aside each week but often overlooked.

Wednesday Night Dinner We have your seat saved at Wednesday Night Dinners. You can enjoy your Dinner at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, attend Pastor Mark’s class, and complete your evening with the Wednesday Evening Service or Choir Rehearsal. Redeemer’s resident Chef, Michael Clarke, and his team are preparing a delicious meal for you, your family, and your friends beginning at 5:00 PM and concluding at 6:30 PM! These meals are available for anyone who would like to attend, including our members, our friends at Lutheran Towers, and the community. The November schedule is as follows: Wednesday, November 2nd – Spaghetti and Meatballs, Garden Salad, Garlic Bread, and a special dessert. Beverages include Iced Tea, Lemonade, Coffee, or Water. Wednesday, November 9th – Taco Night at Redeemer. Dinner includes Rice and Beans, a Garden Salad, your choice of Beverage, and a special Dessert. WELCOME NEW MEMBERS In September and October, 17 people participated in Redeemer’s New Member Class in which they shared their own faith journeys and learned about how Redeemer expresses our core values: Love God, Love our Neighbors, and Love One Another. On October 23, 2022, they made public affirmation of their baptism and became full members of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Get to know them through their bios below and reach out to them through our online directory, Realm, to welcome them into our church. Erica, Glenn, GT, Paxton, and Charlie Fletcher The Fletchers are Alpharetta residents, transferring from Cross Of Life Lutheran Church (Roswell). Erica is a “cradle Lutheran,” and Glenn converted before they were married at Peachtree Road Lutheran Church 27 years ago. They have three children - GT (24), Paxton (22), and Charlie (almost 13). Glenn is in commercial real estate and loves travel and craft beer. Erica is the Global Head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Hiscox Inc. loves dad jokes and is on the board of Inspiritus. Paxton works at Publix, loves puns and animals. Charli attends Northwestern MS and loves Minecraft, drama and musical theater.
Dawson, Amanda, and Jack Foushee Dawson and Amanda have been attending services at Redeemer since 2016. After the birth of their son, Jack in November 2021, they wanted to get more involved with the church. The Foushees live in West Highlands and enjoy watching football, playing disc golf, exploring Atlanta, and traveling. Amanda works in Marketing and Dawson works in App Development. They are excited to be officially joining Redeemer!
Emilia Joell Emilia was born in New York and was raised in the Catholic church. She was trained as a nurse at 19 and received her LPN. Emilia raised three children in Florida while working full-time as a nurse in jails and a hospital for 46 years. She moved to Georgia in 2015 and became a resident of Lutheran Towers in 2019. Emilia attended Redeemer for the first time on Easter Sunday this year and has come ever since.
Angie Robertson Angie has been attending Redeemer since 2017, when she and member Pargen Robertson Jr. were married. She is stepmother to Aino (17) and Pargen III (15) who are also members of Redeemer. Angie has a Master of Arts in Communication and works at CDC in health communication, policy, and partnerships. Angie and Pargen live in Decatur and enjoy playing golf, traveling, and keeping up with their two Scottish Terriers: Butterbean and Gabby. Angie looks forward to engaging more and serving with the Redeemer community.
Megan Booker Megan grew up as a lifelong Lutheran at Emmanuel Lutheran Church - the oldest Lutheran church in East Tennessee. Her career in corporate communications has taken her to Dallas, New York City, and now Atlanta, which allowed her to join Redeemer in early 2022. In her spare time, Megan enjoys hot yoga, hiking, traveling, and arts. Megan is excited to get married in the summer of 2023 to her partner of 10 years, David.
Tracy and Sheila Zentner Tracy and Sheila moved from Onalaska, Wisconsin to the Atlanta area four years ago. Our daughter, Bobbi, joined us in the fall of 2019. Since our move, we have been searching for a church community we could call home. Our journey led us to Redeemer earlier this year. We are very excited to become members and to continue our faith journey. Tracy works for a flooring company called YoYu as the operational manager. Sheila is a customer care manager for a home fashion company called The Company Store, which is part of The Home Depot. As a couple, we enjoy hiking, traveling, and spending time with family. Sheila enjoys working on small projects around the home and the yard. Tracy also enjoys crafting and music. We are also in the process of obtaining our foster care license. Tracy, Sheila, and Bobbi live in Douglasville.

WALK AND GIVE TO FIGHT SUICIDE Thanks to your financial support, we reached our goal of $500 to raise funds for Suicide Prevention and Awareness! There is still time to donate money to provide funds for the life saving work of suicide prevention. MAKE YOUR DONATION HERE On November 6th, a team from Redeemer will walk two miles at Piedmont Park at 2 pm to remember those who have died by suicide and walk in solidarity with survivors.
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support.
