KATHY SMITH February 26, 1932 ~ March 21, 2020 Katherine “Kathy” Rogers Smith died peacefully at home on March 21st, 2020. She was born in Atlanta on February 26th, 1932, the daughter of the late Herman Rogers and Faye Keen Rogers, stepmother Janie Oetgen Rogers, all late members of Redeemer. Kathy attended E. Rivers Elementary School and North Fulton High School. After graduation she attended The University of Alabama, majoring in Home Economics. She was active in campus life and also a sister of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. While there she met and later married the late J. Frank Smith, Jr., also of Redeemer. As a couple they married at Redeemer in 1955, and were very active in many of its ministries. Raised as a child at Redeemer and a lifelong member, she was a devoted servant of Christ. She was very involved with the church serving on the Altar Guild, in Sunday school as both Teacher and student, active within the Northside Circle, served several terms on Church Council, as well as volunteering on numerous committees. In 2004 she was named as Redeemer’s “Outstanding Layperson”. A person of very meticulous attention to detail, she was intensely focused with the Altar Guild throughout her thirty-plus years of service. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother she always cared for each of us individually and was always wanting to do for others no matter the occasion. She possessed a sense of adventure that many of us got to experience whether it be world travel or something new, she always had a “go for it” sense of enthusiasm. One of the true “southern bells” known for her charm and southern colloquialisms, she loved to entertain and will be fondly remembered for her fabulous cheese biscuits, southern hospitality, heartwarming cooking, and her love for life that she shared with everyone she encountered. She is survived by her sons, John Frank Smith, lll ”Jeff” (Karen) of Marietta GA, Scott Rogers Smith of Atlanta, GA, grandchildren Tyler Smith of Alpharetta, GA, Frank Smith, IV of Atlanta, GA, Louise Smith of Atlanta, GA, Savannah Mixson (Sam) of White, GA, and Sarah Charles Smith of Marietta, GA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to any of the Redeemer ministries, or to The Goshen Valley Boys Ranch, Waleska, GA. 1
