Our VBS Community- Rooted in God's Wor
This year’s VBS curriculum, ‘Just Like Me: Digging in and Growing Deep,’ was written by Reconciling Ministries, the Methodist ministry similar to our own Reconciling Works. Knowing that Redeemer was on the cusp of becoming an RIC partner this spring, our VBS planning team got excited about the possibilities. This curriculum was richly crafted to grow the faith of our kids in the setting of a community garden. They learned about radical welcome, creating equitable community spaces, and using their voices to stand up for what’s right. It was a meaningful week in many ways, and we are proud that our kids were the first ones to celebrate our new RIC partnership, which became official right before VBS!!

We were thrilled to partner with Food Well Alliance Atlanta this year Their mission dovetailed perfectly with the themes we were exploring The Alliance receives vegetable and herb seeds in bulk, but needs them in small packets so they can be easily distributed to the community gardens in their network and at their outreach events. Our VBS campers also decorated the envelopes to share some love with our neighbors! Check out the garden bulletin board they created near the upstairs bathrooms at church as they learned about Food Well Alliance and how we can all plant seeds to grow good things like justice, hope, and friendship in our communities.
“FoodWellAllianceisa collaborativenetworkoflocal leadersworkingtogetherto cbuildequitableandthriving ommunitygardens, urban mfarms, andorchardsacross tetroAtlanta.Ourmissionis oprovideresourcesand csupporttolocalgrowersto onnectandbuildhealthier communities.”
Other highlights: Our decor team did an beautiful and creative job of turning Redeemer into a community garden | A HUGE thanks to everyone who donated to our supply drive | We had an incredible intergenerational team of volunteers who showed tons of love to our kids | Half our participants this year were in PreKindergarten crews, which is exciting for the future of VBS! | A big BRAVO to our stage team including Michelle Spady as our MC, Pr. Tim as our music leader, and Pr. Mark as Gary the Goofy Gardener | We continued our collaboration with our Methodist neighbors at St. Mark’s next door on Peachtree St.
