Prayer O Risen One, you have broken the bonds of an earthly body: Be with us now as brother, sister, sibling, father, mother, and parent, that we may see your image reflected in our own and in all whom we meet; in the name of our Mother, our Wisdom and our Comforter. Amen. 7
The Readings: During this season of Eastertide, we will proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ with attention toward women. The first witnesses of the resurrection were women, and yet they were nearly forgotten after Easter morning. Were they not too part to the community of early believers? What about other women? We will read original, gender-expansive translations of scripture by Wilda C. Gafney from A Women’s Lectionary for the Whole Church and offer prayers from Women’s Uncommon Prayers: Our Lives Revealed Nurtured Celebrated. Prayers of Intercession: Let us pray for the church, the world, and all of creation, Holy and faithful God, you have called women to serve, lead, preach and prophesy throughout generations. Embolden the church to shatter the stained-glass ceilings so women may continue to faithfully witness your good news. We pray especially for presiding bishop, Elizabeth Eaton. Silence O God of justice, | Hear our prayer. Holy and gracious God, you created us in your image. Help us to recognize and honor your image in ourselves, in one another, and in the bountiful creation you established. Mold us in your will to defend and nurture the earth and her many delicate ecosystems. Silence O God of creation, | Hear our prayer. Holy and merciful God, hear our prayers for our sisters who are silent because of oppression, those who feel that their voices are not heard, and those who bear the brunt of war, that they may live in justice and peace. Silence O God of peace, | Hear our prayer. Holy and life-giving God, look with compassion on all those in this world and in our communities who are suffering from violence, abuse, disease, and hardship of any kind. We especially pray for… Silence O God of hope, | Hear our prayer Holy and ever-living God, we give you thanks for the love and wisdom of our foremothers, for those who we have loved and died, and we rejoice in the communion of our sister saints (especially). We give you thanks especially for the women pioneers—for the deaconesses, missionaries, pastors, bishops, and church workers who ministered in your name. Silence O God of wisdom, | Hear our prayer. Almighty God, mighty mother and tender father, receive these prayers of your children. Amen.
