Holden Evening Prayer – April 28, 2021 The Order of Worship at 7:15 pm To mitigate spread of COVID-19 in our community, on-site activities—including worship services—have been cancelled. Many activities continue, but in different formats: ZOOM for interactive small groups and classes, to-go meals for the Food Ministry, and streaming worship services and music from the archives. Please use the links available on the viewing page to let us know that you are worshiping from home, to offer any prayer requests, to let us know if you need help or are available to help a neighbor, and to continue to give to support the ministries that continue, socially distant for the common good. As always, we pray that worship at Redeemer is a blessing for you, even as your participation blesses us, even though we are not together in person. As you are comfortable, we encourage you to sing the hymns and to sing or speak the congregational portions of the liturgy in bold type.

Prayer May our prayers come before you, O God, as incense, and may your presence surround and fill us, so that in union with all creation, we might sing your praise and your love in our lives. Amen. The Reading: 1 John 4:7-21 Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world. God abides in those who confess that Jesus is the Son of God, and they abide in God. So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness on the day of judgment, because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love. We love because he first loved us. Those who say, “I love God,” and hate their brothers or sisters, are liars; for those who do not love a brother or sister whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen. The commandment we have from him is this: those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also. Homily The Annunciation: Luke 1:26-28, 30-32, 38

Prayers of Intercession: Loving Father, tender Mother God, hear the prayers of your children, We pray for our church longing for your kin-dom. Embolden us to love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action, just as you first loved us. Lord in your mercy, | Hear our prayer. We pray for our world aching for restoration. Renew the land, water, air and all habitats. Lord in your mercy, | Hear our prayer. We pray for our nation wounded by violence. Unite leaders and inspire them to govern in ways that promote justice and healing. Lord in your mercy, | Hear our prayer. We pray for people in our communities yearning to be made well. Help us who live with mental illness, who are lonely, who are held captive by debt, who are looking for work, who are sick, who are tired. We pray especially for… Lord in your mercy, | Hear our prayer. We pray for our world grieving the deaths of loved ones. Comfort all who are in mourning and sustain them in the hope of the resurrection. Comfort... Lord in your mercy, | Hear our prayer. O loving God, you know the needs of all the world. By your Spirit, grant that we, having turned to you in prayer, now might turn to one another in peace, tend and keep what you have made, and love our neighbor with the love of Jesus in whose name we pray. Amen.

Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Blessing Let us bless our God, Praise and thanks to you. May God, Creator bless us and keep us, May Christ be ever light for our lives, May the Spirit of Love be our guide and path, For all of our days. Amen.
