Bishop L.J. Barnes Mission School was founded in 1982 by the late Rev. Brown T. Nugba, who saw the need for a Christian-based school in the township of New Kru Town. Originally named the Upper Room Academy, the school began with just two makeshift classrooms made of cardboard and zinc. Under the leadership of the late Bishop ARC Grandoe, the school was later renamed the Bishop Grandoe Mission School.
In the late 1980s, under the guidance of Bishop J. Karfee Panton, the school expanded to a junior high level with the addition of a small annex. By the year 2000, the school was renamed Bishop L.J. Barnes Mission School in honor of Bishop L.J. Barnes, a close friend of Bishop Panton.
Over the years, Bishop L.J. Barnes Mission School has produced many successful individuals, including pastors, nurses, police officers, and soccer players. The school is known for its focus on Christian values and its commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders in Liberia. It continues to serve as an evangelism hub for the church and has played a significant role in the development of New Kru Town. Bishop L.J. Barnes Mission School is a place of love where every child is valued and seen as a potential agent of positive change in the community.
