READ FOR THE RECORD 2022 Redding Rancheria Head Start & Child Care

All of our classrooms participated in “Read for the Record 2022” today, and joined in as part of the world’s largest shared reading experience. First 5 Shasta and Reach Higher Shasta provided us with the book “Nigel and the Moon” by Ant wan Eady, along with bookmarks & stickers. Our teachers also used their classroom Smart Boards so students were able to watch & listen to the author read the story.

STILLWATER POW WOW 2022 Redding R ancheria

Thank you to everyone who attended the Redding Rancheria’s Stillwater Pow Wow 2022! We are very pleased with the thousands who came to enjoy the event at the new venue. Thank you to all of the dancers, drummers, vendors, sponsors, attendees, photographers, the emcee and arena director, the committee, the Rodeo Association, the sound guy, volunteers….and many more! We will see you next year!

THINK PINK 5K 2022 Redding Rancheria

On Saturday, Oct. 8th NorCal Think Pink held their 5K Fun Run/Walk. The Redding Rancheria was there to support and it was an amazing event! Early detection and community awareness are keys to helping beat breast cancer! The Redding Rancheria is proud to sponsor the many NorCal Think Pink events such as the Think Pink 5K Run/Walk.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY 2022 Redding Rancheria

We had a fantastic Redding Rancheria’s Staff Development Day on Wednesday, Oct. 20th. We bowled at Shasta Lanes and played at the Oasis Fun Center. The Wellness Department hosted a Farmers Market for our staff to enjoy. Our Human Resources Department coordinated our motivational speaker, Kelly Swanson, and created a wonderful day of relaxation and fun!

The Redding Rancheria values the health and wellness of our employees. We take steps to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle by creating events to get our employees up and running. Whether you walked, ran or competed….you did amazing!!!

LITTLE BIG TIME POW WOW Redding rancheria Head Start & Child Care

The Redding Rancheria Head Start & Child Care celebrated the annual Little Big Time Pow Wow on Thursday, October 13th.

Radley Davis opened our ceremony with a blessing and the Happy Child Song. Art Garcia and John Tau built a traditional fire pit and smoked salmon for everyone. There were dancers in beautiful regalia and drummers to entertain. The children and families were able to participate in a number of activities including, Beading, Acorn Gathering and Grinding, Picture Writing and Painting Dream Catchers. Traditional native artifacts were on display for the children to touch and learn about.

A Pow Wow is a sacred social gathering held by many North American indigenous communities. A modern pow wow is an event for Tribal American people to meet and dance, sing, socialize, and honor their cultures. Thank you to all who participated and helped to make this year’s Pow Wow a great success and join us in celebrating Native traditions with our children.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, we at Redding Rancheria are proud to play our part. Did you know that, according to cancer.org, “about 287,850 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed” just this year?

These numbers are far too high and while there are no clear preventative measures to avoid a cancer diagnosis, early detection is a key component in fighting the battle against this disease. Knowledge about our bodies and health are

important for ourselves but also for our loved ones and the caring community surrounding us. Simple steps to early detection can start with you! You are your best health advocate and should begin self-breast examinations at an early age so you can identify abnormalities and changes in your body. Please, encourage your loved ones to do the same and together, we can save lives!
