Maria Orozco: 25 Year Anniversary with the Redding Rancheria Redding Rancheria
“I am Maria, Pit River girl of the Ajumawi band and as of October 20th, 2019 I have been with the Redding Rancheria for 25 years. I started at Win-River as a pull tabs clerk six days after my daughter turned one. I had to start somewhere and they hired me instantly. I was a single mom attending Shasta College with a one year old, and I needed this amazing place to work. I didn’t know it then but the Tribe helped me to begin my career. I was trained and educated to move from a clerk position to the Director of Public Relations-- thanks to the Tribe. I am very thankful for all of the opportunities they have given me. Among the many opportunities given to me is to work with the Community. I have never worked anywhere else and wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you to the Tribe, Win-River, work family, friends, and all who have helped me become who I am today. I have never felt as confident as I do today. My work place gave me a Bachelor’s of Science degree, Jazzercise, employee family events, amazing healthcare for my family, benefits, Christmas bonuses, Thanksgiving cards, employee parties, events to get dressed up for, events to become humble at, travel, culture, stability, ability to buy a home, the chance to meet fabulous people, and so much more! I have grown so much and appreciate all the opportunities I have been given. It feels like I am rejuvenated and ready for the next chapter.”

When we read aloud to our children it provides our youngsters with the tools needed to solve problems, self-regulate, develop language, and memory retention. All of which are essential components to developing into intelligent and wellrounded adults.
