STOP THE BLEED Redding Rancheria

The Redding Rancheria’s own Glen Hayward (RN, BSN, and MS) Executive Director of the Redding Rancheria Tribal Health & Churn Creek Healthcare held a “Stop the Bleed” training for the Tribal Membership. It is important to the Tribe to hold such national awareness campaigns as “Stop the Bleed” to encourage all to become equipped, trained and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency during a time of disaster before the first responders arrive on scene.

SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM Redding Rancheria

Studies done by the Administration for Community Living, the Census Bureau and the National Foundation to End Senior Hunger in America show how a Congregate Meal Program (Senior Nutrition) can benefit you in many ways. Redding Rancheria’s Senior Nutrition offers meals, socializing and access to community resources on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for Native American elders and their spouses.

NATIVE AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP-FALL 2019 Redding Rancheria

The Native American High School Education Scholarship will provide funding for (2) Native American High School Seniors with a scholarship of $500 each towards attending trade school, college, or university for the Summer 2019/Fall 2019 semesters.

Requirements 1. Native American (Federally Recognized) 2. Address in the Redding Rancheria Service Area (see service area defined below) 3. Be enrolled full time in trade school, college, university for Summer 2019/Fall 2019 that is a qualified institution as define by the RRCEF 4. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 Deadline Application Deadline: Friday, May 31, 2019 Students will be notified via email, postal mail or phone by Friday, June 14,2019 regarding the Selection Process.

EDUCATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM Redding Rancheria

Supplemental assistance up to $300 per calendar year is provided to help adult students attend college, university or trade school. Each student may submit one request per calendar year. The funds may be used for reimbursement or paid directly to the school or vendor for tuition, books or other required materials. You must have a C (70%) or better to receive funds.

TRINITY ANNOUNCMENT LAB DRAWS Redding Rancheria

Redding Rancheria Trinity Health Center is excited to announce that as of January we hired a phlebotomist and started drawing labs for our patients. The specimens are picked up and processed by LabCorp which has greatly improved patient compliance. The results are processed and sent through our EHR. Previously, lab results were faxed and scanned individually into patient charts. Now we have the ability to track quality measures and ultimately improved patient care. We are very excited to have Kara Jimenez as part of our team at Redding Rancheria Trinity Health Center.

WELLNESS Redding Rancheria

A little rain won’t stop these women! They have trained for six weeks through the rain, snow, and sun this year. Congratulations to Gennie Christopherson, Kara Russell, and Trina Arreola for taking on The John Frank Memorial Run! Your dedication to health and wellness is inspiring.

And a big thank you to Tonya for continuing to train others in the love for running.

HEAD START & CHILD CARE Redding Rancheria

We started off the exciting racing week by having our friends from CHP come and teach us about pedestrian and bike safety.

We also had a movie drive-in! The children brought their box cars to school and parked them at the “movie theater� to watch a movie and eat popcorn. Friday concluded our racing week with our annual Head Start 500 Box Car Race! With only a few crashes and burn outs, each child raced to the finish line and received a gold trophy! The parents did an amazing job helping the children make their own unique box car.

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH Jessica goes above and beyond at Churn Creek as a Behavioral Health Therapist. She collaborates well with all the Providers to ensure delivery of excellent Patient Care. She gives individualized treatment and makes each one of her patients feel valued and special. She is more than willing to help or assist with outside duties that help support the patient and delivery of care. She self-initiates and takes action where needed and is an integral asset to Redding Rancheria and consistently has a positive and calming attitude

RRCF REDDING RANCHERIA HOSTS A FUN BLACK & WHITE COSTUME PARTY Redding Rancheria’s Largest Fundraiser Dresses Black & White On March 25, 2019 approximately 500 community members came together and helped our Black & White Celebration for the 2019 Redding Rancheria’s “A Year to Remember” annual fundraiser dinner.

“This year’s event meant a lot to us. The fires of 2018 took its toll on so many in our community we wanted to make this event special for those who were affected. This year’s event was extra special with the largest attendance, biggest auction and most sponsors. Together the event raised over $52,000. We are grateful for the continued support we receive from the community in growing this beneficial fund. Thank you to all who were involved with the Redding Rancheria’s Signature event. We can’t wait till next year’s event.” said Tracy Edwards, Chief Executive Officer for the Redding Rancheria.

During the Black & White themed dinner, an additional gift of $7,500 was awarded to two organizations who were affected by the 2018 Fires.

All proceeds from the Redding Rancheria Community Fund Dinner will benefit the 2019 RRCF. The RRCF has donated over $3 million since its inception in 2002. 51 local organizations in Shasta and Trinity Counties received funds in 2018 totaling more than $191,000. PHARMACY Redding Rancheria

The National Kidney Foundation has designated March as National Kidney Month. So what exactly is Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)? What causes it? Who gets it? How can it be prevented?

CKD is a condition in which the kidneys have been compromised. They lose their ability to regulate your body water and other chemicals in the blood such as sodium, potassium, phosphorus and calcium. They also have difficulty removing toxins from your body. In addition, the kidneys may not be able to release certain hormones that are essential in the regulation of blood pressure, the formation of red blood cells and the promotion of strong bones.

Although there are a number of conditions which can affect the kidneys, the two main causes of CKD are diabetes and hypertension. The effects of high blood sugar from diabetes can damage not only the kidneys but many organs of the body including the heart, blood vessels, nerves and eyes. High blood pressure left uncontrolled can cause kidney damage. Kidney damage can also cause hypertension.

According to the National Kidney Foundation, 26 million American adults have Chronic Kidney Disease and millions more are at high risk. “You may have an increased risk for kidney disease if you:

• have diabetes • have high blood pressure • have a family history of chronic kidney disease • are older • belong to a population group that has a high rate of diabetes or high blood pressure, such as African

Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian, Pacific Islanders, and American Indians.”¹ The best way to lower your risk of getting CKD is to keep your blood sugar levels and blood pressure in control. Test blood sugar levels at home and monitor your blood pressure often. If you are taking blood pressure medication, be sure to take it as prescribed. See your primary physician at least yearly for blood and urine tests. This will help your doctor detect early changes in kidney function so that kidney disease and its complications can be prevented or delayed.
