Dear Parents and Caregivers,
How wonderful it has been to have some consistently good weather. The great summer evening on Monday allowed for a spectacular farewell to the HSC Class of 2022. The pre formal cocktail party on the rooftop where the entire cohort, their parents, and teachers gathered, gave all the parents the opportunity to celebrate the end of an era while seeing how well the students “scrubbed up” for the occasion. Buses then took the students to Beta Bar in the city where they had the best time ever with memories made that will last a lifetime. Photos pages 8 and 9.
Farewell Year 12 2022.
This week we received notification that Sam Clifford, Gabriela Wayne, and Sofia Weidler of this cohort have been nominated for consideration in ARTEXPRESS, as part of the HSC Showcase season in 2023. A fantastic effort to be considered among the best of the best art students in the State, based on their major works, is quite incredible. Well Done!
With the completion of the HSC last week, a number of our teachers will be off, marking these examinations in the various subjects. As a school, we value the insight that these teachers gain through this experience and encourage teachers to be involved in this process. The benefit is felt by future Reddam Year 12 students who receive far more relevant feedback from their teachers following the interaction with the examiners. I thank them for this dedication to their subject and future students.
Congratulations to the Reddam 3 Debating team who debated the affirmative and beat Cranbrook 3 arguing that we should ban the sale and consumption of alcohol on major public holidays. Interesting topic and well done Emma Bradburn, Maddie Wenmohs, Elayne Keng, Kathy Seki, and Melia Haigh on your arguments.
Last Friday, Reddam hosted the annual surfing championships at Bronte Beach. Our Director of Surfing, Robert Bruns, did an awesome job ensuring every competitor had a great day. Heats were run during the day which led to two top quality semi-finals for the Juniors. Six surfers made it through to the Final with Gully Stephens taking
the crown in an epic final over Luke Verlaine in second and Poppy O'Reilly in third place.
Earlier in the day, the Open Girls Final went right to the wire with Poppy snatching the win from Pia Martin in the closing minute of the contest. Lena Martin surfed well to come in third.
Rex Whale dominated the Final of the Open Boys. A self confessed novice, he surfed like he had been training for months for this event, pulling off some great manoeuvres.

Next, the Body Boarders stepped up for the Open Final. Sam Clifford was gallant in defeat to a dominating Sonny Cyron while Archie Diamond finished up third.
While we celebrate the success of those mentioned above, we must not forget those other surfers who helped make this day such a success. Each and every one of them gave their best and competed with an awesome attitude to ensure the vibe of the day was always about supporting one another. This is what surfing is all about and it was dished out in spades on Bronte Beach last Friday. Special thanks to Tyler Gruenpeter for taking the wonderful photos which are displayed on pages 10 and 11.
This week our talented Elective Year 10 Drama students presented solo monologue performances supporting their understanding of the techniques of Realism. Each student demonstrated their remarkable acting skills and ability to engage their audience through their unique and authentic portrayal of these characters. Year 10 is congratulated for the high calibre of performance showcased in this term's Assessment Task. See more on pages 6 and 7.
Student achievements this week include:
Congratulations to Natasha Green and Attica Geritis, who together with their teachers Mr. Bortolotti and Catherine Bouchier have just finished their season of Attila this week, with Opera Australia at the Opera House.
A number of year 8 students competed in The Startup 101 round 2. This follows them having won through with their pitches in the first round, last term. Congratulations to budding entrepreneurs Xavier Hanna, Georgina Corrish, Alon Freund, Maddie Macintyre, Emilie Kesler, Abigail Brealey, and Amelie Rasmussen, and their teacher, Mr. Ehrlich.
Ricky Resnik had a great week of ice hockey with his Rampage team being undefeated through the week, tend with extremely muddy conditions.

The first weekend was the Arilla Cup "warm up" weekend. After a difficult first day due to extreme gusts of wind (blowing down jumps!), Jasmine managed to get some top 10 finishes in the 1.10m.
In the Australian Showjumping Championships (in the second week), she entered the Emerald Series this was a large open class run across 3 days for horses and riders jumping up to 1.25 (her biggest track yet), with the top 30 riders going through to the final. She was thrilled to qualify for the final on both horses. Unfortunately, one rider error combined with the big track proved a challenge for the first horse and they had 3 rails down. The second round was ridden to perfection and it looked like she had a clear round, but for an unlucky rail that fell well after she passed, which prevented her from making the jump off. Nevertheless, she ended up finishing in the top 15, being the only junior to make it that far and with only professional riders finishing ahead of her. She was thrilled with how she finished up and is excited to try to contest it again next year. What a fantastic two weeks of horse jumping Jasmine, congratulations.
and every one of our students. They would love to see you in the audience.
In some very exciting news, Lahra Will Reichman and Maya Antonir in year 9 recently won the Sydney University Department of Hebrew, in association with the JNF, Hebrew Writing and Recording Competition with both girls presenting excellent pieces of writing on stories they heard from their grandparents and ways to create a sustainable earth. Dr Yona Gilad from Sydney University came to Reddam House on Tuesday to present these students with their first place awards and a Westfield gift voucher for their accomplishments. Both girls recall the experience as a fun and challenging way to test their vocabulary and Hebrew writing ability. This is very encouraging for the rest of our Hebrew students next year!
Next week, the Dance Department is excited to announce that tickets for 'Radiance', a Reddam House Dance showcase of students from years 7 12, are now on sale. Please use the link below to purchase yours.
The students have been working hard to prepare for this event, performing dance styles that range from Contemporary to Jazz and Musical Theatre. There is so much talent to enjoy and celebrate, and we are so proud of each

Blossom Tree by David Nelenson
For someone beautiful, A place for butterflies, And carved sculptures in elmwood. Beneath there is MAGIC, Engraved in coral patterns. We just adore The flickers of ruby, On fire spirals, Hanging, Like stalactites. Keep your heart with the dreamers.
Paperbark by Rowan Kremer
I am not the first to sit here, peeling the thin layers of paperbark from each other, scratching the soft glue dust until the fibre dances in the air and settles pale in my hair.
A far cry from the ankle joints of trees that cluster in cold circles of chip bark, the paperbark tree outside my window bends sun struck from the ground, weeds springing cheerfully through the roots.
I unstick the transparent layers that give the paperbark its name, and wonder if this is humanity at its core: A space oddity; a tiny drifting rock crawling with curious giants.
The world has, in being known, lost its intrigue. There is no movement to stir. No discoveries to spear with a flag, no stone unturned.
But the dust in the paperbark is a land of its own, And I, dutifully human, must map it how I can.
