How to Survive and Do Well in Law School Words by Vericson D. Quitco
To begin with, there is no hard and fast rule
time. Finish law school in four years. Make sacrifices. Law school is a jealous mistress, so you better devote your time in your studies. If not, there is a tendency that you will not be able to finish it in four years. More of your precious time will be spent and will be lost before you graduate. Once you enter law school, there is a big probability that you will have classes Mondays to Saturdays. As a brotherly advice, drink once in a while. Have fun. Take some rest. A tired body will not function well so you better give your body a well-deserved rest especially when you have the time to do so. Also, do not study during vacations, Christmas, and summer including semestral breaks. Do not listen to those who will say that you should study during vacation. It is nonsense. Chances are, you will soon forget everything you have studied during those times, even before classes resume. You will be burnt out. Instead, save a lot of your energy during vacations. When vacation is over, your body is refreshed in facing another tough and sleepless semester. You have two whole semesters to study. Vacation is vacation.

Some law students survive in law school because of their God-given gift of intelligence, and we call them the fast learners in law school. They are the ones who easily understand codals and annotations in one or in two readings. They are also good in memorization. The second type are the hard workers. Unlike fast learners, their intelligence is average but their determination and perseverance are superb. Their diligence is their weapon. Lastly, the immortals. They are the Gods and Goddesses in law school. They are fast learners and at the same time hard workers. They are called immortals because their academic record is clean, spotless. They have not yet received any Ora (Prayer). Miracles do happen in law failing mark. In short, regular school. iming to outdo itself, The Red Chronicles gathered its current pool of writers and staff to attend its institutional summer workshop held last May 8-9 at Punta Verde Sands Resort in Lobo, Batangas. The two-part program consisted of a writing workshop conducted by former Editor-in-Chief (A.Y. 2013-2014) Joey Alfonso and a basic photography and layout workshop conducted by Bedan Herald alumnus Ceasar Entila. The event served as a respite from the demanding school and org work, and was also attended by some alumni to meet with the new members of TRC. It was capped off with the turnover ceremony of the outgoing and incoming Editorial Board officers for Academic Year 2015-2016. A well-deserved celebration of karaoke singing and org bonding activities inevitably ensued.

As prefect, he is the authority in addressing student concerns in the school of law. Confident and articulate, he can easily get everyone’s attention with his funny anecdotes and remarks. As you go through succeeding enrollment periods, you will become more and more at ease with her, as she is in charge of all the students’ assessment forms and certificates of registration, as well as the adding and dropping of subjects. Ms. Sylvia joined the school of law family just last year. As the Guidance counselor, she seeks to establish rapport with the students by interviewing returning Bedans as a pre-requisite to enrollment. She is optimistic that students will continue to attend and support the Guidance office’s activities and events this school year. She welcomes all of you and hopes that you enjoy your stay in the school of law.
SBCA-SOL Celebrates Thanksgiving Mass for New Bedan Lawyers Words by Joseph Franco
San Beda College Alabang School of Law (SBCA-SOL) on
April 27, celebrated the Thanksgiving Mass at the St. Benedict’s Chapel for the Bedan 2014 Bar passers. Rector-President Fr. Anselm Manlastas, OSB led the Bedan community in officiating the Thanksgiving Mass. The SBCA-SOL community was headed by Dean Ulpiano Sarmiento III and Prefect Atty. Bruce Rivera together with the Faculty. Gracing the event were the Bedan 2014 Bar passers, whose mass was celebrated in their honor. The SCBA-SOL Chorale assisted the Bedan community in singing the mass songs.
Dean Sarmiento urged the new Bar passers in his address to uphold the Bedan values of prayer and work. He stressed that competence must be imbued with compassion and morality to be a true Bedan and Christian lawyer. Dinner was later served to the Bedan community at the chapel gardens. The Thanksgiving Mass is an annual mass traditionally held every April as thanksgiving for the successful Bedan Bar passers. This event is an opportunity for the Bedan community to recognize the achievements of its new Bedan lawyers as well as to thank God for the blessings of the past academic year.
