To coincide with the release of the BCDC Core, the current 25A, 40A, and 50A dual input BCDC variants that you know and trust will now be known as the BCDC Classic. With fully sealed electronics, the BCDC Classic remains the only ultra-rugged DC to DC charger –suitable for engine bay installations, water crossings, desert heat, mud pits and wild weather. You name it, the BCDC Classic can handle it.

Product Manager for the BCDC Core, Albert Atkins said, “REDARC’s BCDC range has long been the market leader in DC to DC charging where weatherproofing is paramount. With the BCDC Core we’re launching a new range of chargers for installations in the vehicle cabin or canopy where dust and water proofing isn’t required. The BCDC Core is built in Australia with REDARC’s legendary reliability but features a new price point to suit every budget.”

Like all REDARC products, the new BCDC Core is backed by nation-wide support, including a hassle-free warranty, REDNetwork certified installer network and after-sales service to answer any questions.

REDARC CONGRATULATES AUTORONTO ON THEIR AUTODRIVE CHALLENGE WIN.

REDARC are excited support the University of Toronto’s student research group, aUToronto, as they participate in the SAE Autodrive Challenge Series II and congratulate them on their first win in the new round of the challenge.

Run by SAE International, the series has had students working over the past four years to develop and demonstrate a fully autonomous driving passenger vehicle. This year marks a new start for a new round of challenges from scratch. Made up of students from the University of Toronto, the team was required to design, build and code everything from scratch.

In this first year of the four-year competition, the teams built “perception carts”. These are utilised to validate the design for a perception system which will be incorporated into a real vehicle for the next round of the competition.

Within an autonomous testing vehicle, there are many electrical components that need power simultaneously, including

perception sensors, compute units, vehicle networking and human-machine interface. The team also needed to selfcontain their electrical system within the vehicle utilising the vehicle’s 12V electrical system. The vehicle provided as a part of the competition, a Chevy Bolt EUV 2022, has a very small starter battery that was not designed for this load.

Working with these issues and REDARC, the aUTornoto team chose to utilise REDARC’s RedVision and Manager30 in their autonomous testing vehicle. The Manager30 allows the team to utilise a dual-battery design and, instead of putting all the loads onto the 12V starter battery, they can add a 100Ah battery for all sensor and computing systems. Having RedVision allows them to power cycle sensors and computing devices during testing, if bugs occur. In addition, the individually fused channels allow the team to test custom-made hardware without concerns about damaging other sensors.

Speaking on the first challenge win, Frank (Chude) Qian, the Team Principal of Round II Year 1 for aUToronto, said, “It was a monumental effort that shows the true depth of talent and dedication of this amazing group of students. I cannot give enough credit to the aUToronto flight team members who really took one for the team and pulled through together.”

Starting August 2022, the team moves onto integrating the solution in a real Chevy Bolt EUV 2022, led by the new Team Principal, Jiachen (Jason) Zhou.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to work with REDARC directly and certainly the nice integrated switching solution provided by RedVision system. During the competition, the nice integrated LCD status screen definitely caught many eyes! We cannot wait to integrate this all into the new vehicle system and show it off!”

EXPORT UPDATE

On the 16th of December 2019, REDARC Defence Systems signed a contract to deliver Multi Aspect Threat Emulation Systems (MATES) to the Australian Army to support Defence’s understanding of target system requirements.

REDARC DEFENCE SYSTEMS SUPPORTS AUSTRALIAN ARMY 1ST MEDIUM REGIMENT LIVE FIRING ACTIVITIES.

This concept demonstrator agreement was to include Gaardtech, Formcut, IntelliParticle and REDARC Defence Systems.

In the wake of a series of significant natural disasters and the COVID19 Pandemic, an opportunity to deploy the first of the systems was finally able to occur in June 2022.

Representatives from REDARC Defence Systems and Gaardtech deployed to Shoal Water Bay Training Area to support 1st Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, live firing activities.

A set of five Main Battle Tank threat emulators were deployed, spread over a significant target area, with some of the vehicles being under trees and hidden

amongst camouflage making it complex for the Joint Fire Teams to observe and engage.

The General Manager of Sales, REDARC Defence Systems, Mike Hartas, stated, “It was great to finally get to deploy our systems in a live firing environment and be able to offer such a complex training scenario to the Australian Gunners. Our Threat Emulation System is a collaboration between four Australian SMEs who have all invested in creating this technology. Being able to deploy it, and then witness the results of the engagements, was extremely pleasing.”

MATES are full-sized, 3D replicas of military vehicles which are made by GaardTech from metal with an exterior that replicates

the cosmetic and thermal appearance and shape of a military tank.

Not only are they visually impressive, but the systems also include REDARC’s Thermal Signature Enhancement Kits (RTSEK). This technology is critical for establishing realistic high fidelity thermal vehicle signatures required to practice and support Defence’s understanding of target system requirements using smart thermally guided munitions.

These attributes make MATES some of the most realistic practice targets on the market. The systems are also an eco friendly and economical choice, being easy to deploy, fully transportable and recyclable.

DEFENCE UPDATE

REDARC are proud to be supporting The Fellas Sh!tbox Rally Team in their recent 2022 Box Rally run.

REDARC SUPPORTS THE FELLAS’ 2022 BOX RALLY RUN.

After an incomplete run in 2019 due to transmission issues The Fellas, Jordan and Luke, were excited and ready to get stuck into their 2022 attempt.

REDARC provided a BCDC1225D in-vehicle battery charger to keep all their devices and accessories powered while on the road. The Fellas are proud to report that they crossed the finish line successfully this time, raising over $7,000 to support The Cancer Council and cancer research.

Founded in 2009 by James Freeman after he lost both of his parents to cancer, The Box Rallies raise funds to support vital and exciting cancer research projects across the country. The Sh!tbox Rally challenges participants to drive cars worth just $1,000 across Australia via some of the most challenging and remote roads, camping along the way.

For their 2022 rally, The Fellas bought a 1985 Mazda to tackle the route from Wollongong to Mackay. With a few modifications and a manual transmission conversion, they were ready to hit the road. Unfortunately, due to heavy rainfall the final three days had to be re-routed from dirt roads to bitumen, but eventually they crossed the line with no issues.

“We decided to run a second battery in this car for two reasons. Firstly, our car had an old carby engine and it took a long time to start on the freezing mornings, so we required a lot of cranking power on one battery.

Secondly, we needed power for all our party lights, driving lights, communication equipment, camping lights, phones etc,” said Jordan, one half of The Fellas team.

“REDARC’s BCDC1225D in-vehicle charger successfully powered both of our batteries. Using quality equipment gave us a sense of relief at night, knowing our battery power was being managed appropriately.”

“We even had some of our buddy group charging all their equipment from our car at camp each night!”
