This partnership will enable both companies to further align with the needs of the growing Australia defence sector for rugged embedded computing applications.

Based in Huntsville, Alabama, Abaco has more than thirty years’ experience.

Clean-Dezert is an initiative dedicated to educating young overlanders about how they can maintain and improve desert resources, keep the land open and improve the image of the off-road culture.

Clean-Dezert is passionate about reversing the reputation of desert travellers as the ones responsible for these actions by rallying fellow off-roaders and making a positive contribution to the communities surrounding 4WD areas.

The Barstow area in southern California is popular for 4WDing and hosts many desert races making it a target for illegal dumping.

At the 2019 Barstow event, their largest to date, they were able to fill eleven dumpsters in under four hours, with the help of over 650 volunteers. This took roughly 22 tonnes of rubbish from the desert including a car and a boat.

At the 2020 event REDARC will be sponsoring a raffle where volunteers are encouraged to collect rubbish...the more rubbish they collect, the more tickets they receive to go into the draw for prizes.

Partnering with Clean-Dezert means that REDARC gets to support a cause that ensures the future of desert areas in the US and improves the reputation and responsible actions of future generations.

Hummingbird update

Extend engine and turbocharger life Introducing the Hummingbird Idle Timer (HMLI003) Hummingbird Electronics’ Idle Timer keeps an engine running for a pre-specified period after the ignition has been turned to the off position allowing the engine and its turbocharger to cool down safely.

This avoids premature turbo wear and failure and saves you money on costly repairs or replacements.

The timer is also settable, and lockable putting you in control and it has an override switch in the event that an immediate engine shut down is required.

Powerful performance The Idle Timer is designed for a quick and easy installation with the ignition input and output wire connected directly in series with the vehicle’s ignition supply.

Idle time can be set between 1 and 5 minutes using 4 dip-switches that can be found under the lid of the device.

An optional override input allows an operator to bypass the cool-down period and instantly turn the engine off. A key-off output signal is available for auxiliary power functions. An LED output allows for a visual indication for the operator. When ignition is turned off, the LED will flash indicating the idle time in minutes and will then stay on for the idle time.

Designed for harsh automotive environments, the module features transient voltage protection on the supply and short circuit protection. The Idle Timing module is suitable for use in both 12V and 24V vehicles.

The Idle Timer is supplied in a rugged aluminum enclosure with provision for screw mounting when required, and a red LED inside is provided to give the user status information.

• Input voltage minimum 9V, maximum 36V • Outputs (LED) maximum 250mA per output • Relay (BATT, IGN IN, IGN OUT) maximum 10A in 24V systems. Tow-Pro wiring for Ford Ranger and Everest brake controller installation with the vehicle’s electronics and onboard safety equipment.

To summarise, additional parts are required in electric brake installations for Ford Ranger and Everest models with AEB, when installing any aftermarket brake controllers due to the vehicle trailer detection system being extremely sensitive.

It is a requirement to use the correct wiring harness for these applications.

There are two suitable options, either the genuine Ford electric brake harness kit or the REDARC Tow-Pro Wiring Kit (TPWKIT-012).

Common issues if the brake trigger is taken from the brake light circuit of the vehicle or trailer base without using the required wiring kit: • Trailer warning lamp on with no trailer detected Post 2018 (MY19), Ford released Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) technology for their Ranger and Everest model vehicles.

Due to the sophisticated trailer modules in these vehicles, the common connections for the brake signal to the electric brake controllers are now not viable without having adverse effects on the vehicle and onboard safety systems.

REDARC has engineered a solution to overcome this issue and designed a vehicle

specific Tow-Pro wiring harness to suit this application.

The TPWKIT-012 is more than just a standard wiring installation.

It consists of a signal conditioning module which safely filters the brake signal from the brake light circuit sourced from the trailer base which is controlled from the vehicle’s trailer module.

A reminder to installers REDARC Electronics has issued a product safety recall for certain serial numbers of the Tow-Pro Elite V2 (EBRH‑ACCV2) electric trailer brake controller purchased between 1st September 2018 and 21st January 2019.

As a result of this recall, you may be contacted by a number of your customers regarding potential affected Tow-Pro units.

If you have a new unit in stock that is within the affected range, you can return the unit to your distributor for a free replacement to the next generation Tow‑Pro Elite EBRH‑ACCV3.

If an owner finds they have a unit that is affected, they are being advised to contact REDARC who will coordinate a free replacement of the main control unit.

Subsequently, REDARC may contact you to organise for a customer to come to you in order to have the replacement completed, we seek your assistance to carry out this work.

The replacement entails the changeover of the main control unit only.

REDARC will provide a sum of $50 inc GST for each unit that needs to be changed over, as well as provide the main control unit required for the replacement.

In the instance of a customer contacting you regarding the recall you can: • Check the serial number as per our instructions on our website redarc.com.au/recall-notice.

• If the unit is not within the serial number range, then there is no concern for your customer’s installation and they can continue using their Tow-Pro Elite V2.

• If the unit is within the affected range, then you can organise with the customer to undertake the changeover at your earliest convenience.

• Full instructions on how to carry out the replacement can be found at redarc.com.au/recall-instructions

• Indicators flash at a faster rate (only when a trailer is not connected) • Logged fault codes relating to brake light circuit • Reverse sensor/alarm does not operate • Reverse guidance/camera does not function correctly Although the TPWKIT-012 is a requirement for Ford Ranger and Everest with AEB, this kit is backwards compatible and is suitable for earlier models without AEB. Please note that as part of the recall process we do need to accurately track the serial numbers of the main control units affected against the replacement main control unit to report to the regulatory authority. Invoices cannot be paid until we can verify that we have received the affected main control unit back to our stores.

REDARC around the country COVID-19 has put a hold on many of our international travel plans for 2020. As Australia gets back on track though, we’re seeing more and more domestic travel opportunities arise.

Whether it’s packing the tent in the car, dusting off the camper trailer or buying a new caravan, domestic travel is the way to go.

This time off the road has given us an opportunity to work closely with our experts on several upcoming projects and has seen us continue our successful partnerships with Aussie off road explorers and adventurers.

Over the coming months REDARC will be very visible across a range of platforms.

Magazines If print media is more your speed, REDARC regularly provides features for 4WD Touring, Unsealed 4x4, RV Daily and Pat Callinan’s 4x4 Adventures Magazine, amongst others.

Television REDARC works with both The Offroad Adventure Show and All 4 Adventure, which airs Sundays at 1pm on channels 10 and 10Bold.

While The Offroad Adventure Show is not currently airing, both shows are on 10Play.

Business update

New European & United Kingdom Area Sales Manager REDARC is pleased to announce Marco Nicolini as our European & United Kingdom Technical Area Sales Manager.

He will be managing customer relations between our international customers and REDARC. Based in Italy, he’s previously worked in Australia for COBO in the truck industry, before moving back to Italy in 2018. Marco experienced managing European Markets while working for COBO. Starting in March, he has been one of the staff most affected by COVID-19 and is yet to meet the team in Australia. This hasn’t stopped him connecting virtually though. “If you have support from everyone, it doesn’t feel like you’re alone on the other side of the world,” says Marco.

Speaking on Marco’s appointment, Craig Herriot said, “It’s exciting to have someone who has worked in the European market.

We’re looking forward to continuing to extend our European reach with Marco.”

Haydn Trenorden has been appointed as Mining and Industrial Business Development Manager NSW. From September he will be based in Williamtown, assisting customers and building new relationships particularly with OEMs. Haydn started with REDARC in 2019 as a Customer Service Technician. As an Auto Electrician, he will lean on his background, bringing 10 years of road, trucking, and marine electrical knowledge.

As soon as practicable, he and his young family will move to New South Wales.

Haydn said, “My family and I are excited to be relocating and I look forward to getting on the road as soon as possible to meet with customers.”

Molluso Motorsports update For the last few years we’ve sponsored Molluso Motorsports, following Antonio Molluso and his team in their racing career.

Recently they’ve made the transition from racing go-karts to the Hyundai Excel Racing Circuit.

This has called for a new car and learning the ropes of a different type of racing.

We spoke to Antonio Molluso about the new car and the challenges of the 2020 racing season.

“What REDARC products do you use? How do these products benefit your racing?”

“When and how did you get into Excel Racing?”

“We use the REDARC Smart Battery Charger for the race car, which benefits us as it’s a quick charge to get the car up and running when it’s been sitting at home between racing events. We also run REDARC solar panels which are connected to the REDARC battery charger on the Ford Ranger that tows the Excel to competitions. These two products help us in the pits by keeping all our electronics, power tools, compressor, and lights running. This reduces time in the pits getting ready for the next heats and races.”

“We first started racing go-karts professionally in 2016, competing in the Australian Kart Championship. As a new class, Hyundai Excels have only been racing for the past five years. The growing category caught our eye in late 2019 and we knew it was the next step from go-karting for us.”

Nevertheless, we have used this time to further develop our car; getting a new motor built, designing a new exhaust, performing various dyno tests to increase horsepower and completely changing the look of the car through a new custom wrap.”
