NEW TVMS ROGUE.

REDARC are excited to introduce the newest addition to our RedVision system. The TVMS Rogue offers a compact and flexible centralised power control solution for caravan, camper and 4x4 applications.

Designed to be the heart of your customers’ 12V system, REDARC’s award-winning RedVision system combines smart battery management, centralised accessory control and monitoring, and ease of installation in one powerful package, keeping your customers in control of their electrical systems with one hub to power and distribute all circuits. For complicated power systems or installations with limited space, REDARC’s new TVMS Rogue distribution box combines wiring simplicity with a small footprint. At only 250x130x25mm, it can be tucked away into any unused space or hidden out of sight. Featuring ten dimmable 10A outputs and eight switch inputs, the TVMS Rogue is perfect for controlling power systems featuring, lights, fridges, and fans.

Able to be used with both digital and physical switches, the Rogue’s output channels support dimming and can be grouped, allowing your customers to control multiple accessories with the flick of a single switch. The ability to interface with a variety of physical switch types, including reed switches, also opens a variety of configuration options for your customers. Featuring two analogue sensor inputs, the TVMS Rogue can not only monitor accessories but keep track of tank and voltage levels all in the one location. Compatible with most common sensors, you can avoid the hassle of sourcing speciality parts for each install.

Used alongside the RedVision Configurator app, setting up the system is simple with a range of configuration options and automations. Smart fuses mean there’s no need to physically replace fuses, with everything controlled easily via the app, so the distribution box can be hidden out of sight.

For builds with more than two water tanks, or when powering a mix of low and high-powered accessories, the larger TVMS Prime (formerly known as the RedVision Distribution Box) is recommended. You can also pair the Rogue with the Prime or another Rogue to double the number of on-board channels. Perfect for caravans with a high number of accessories. REDARC’s battery chargers can be connected in parallel to increase the charge output and cater for high modern power demands. Many auto electricians are choosing to wire an additional BCDC battery charger in parallel with REDARC’s 30A battery management system, The Manager30.

FASTER CHARGING WITH A BCDC AND MANAGER30 IN PARALLEL.

With many customers wanting to take increasingly power-hungry accessories on the road, something that is becoming common practice due to huge power usage requirements is the necessity of parallel charging with multiple devices to increase the charging current potential.

CONSIDERATIONS BEFORE INSTALLATION.

When designing a power system with the ability to push larger amounts of power into auxiliary batteries, there are several things that need to be considered. As with the development of any power system, the initial considerations remain the same; how much power is required, and will the batteries support the loads being drawn?

From here, it needs to be determined that the selected batteries can handle the high input current, as all batteries have a specified maximum charge rate and not all will be appropriate for this application. You will need to ensure your customer’s battery can accept the combined maximum charge current from all chargers while they’re operating at temperature.

Last, and most importantly, the vehicle’s alternator will need to be assessed to ensure that it can provide enough available power to charge the batteries while driving. In normal operating conditions where the vehicle electrical loads, start battery, accessories and engine management demands are relatively low, the alternator will have some surplus capability when engine speed is above an idle. This capacity will need to be assessed to ensure it is large enough to handle the power draw of additional chargers to support the auxiliary electrical system. In some cases, the vehicle’s alternator may need to be upgraded to support the auxiliary battery system.

Typical Installation

INSTALLATION SPECIFICATIONS.

When choosing to install a BCDC with a Manager30 there are two configuration options, running the solar through the BCDC or through the Manager30. It does pay to note though that when running solar via the BCDC, solar power, input and logs will not be displayed on the Manager30 screen.

In either configuration, the battery sensor will then calculate the total current received by the battery and display the correct state of charge and time until flat/full.

For the Manager30 to display the correct state of charge it needs to register all incoming current. To ensure this occurs, the BCDC ground connection (black wire) must be connected to a common ground point and not the auxiliary battery negative. Failure to connect the earth wire to a common ground will result in the charge provided by the BCDC to bypass the battery sensor (shunt) and result in inaccurate battery state of charge calculations.
